How To Increase Comments On Your Posts

A lot of bloggers measure their success by seeing how many comments a post got. And I’m one of them. Lots of people leave likes, without even opening the post sometimes. But a thoughtful comment means that someone took the time to read your post and leave their feedback. And as a bloggers that’s what you want, an engaged audience. I see people who have way more followers than I do but they only get a handful of comments per post. I never want to be in that position. No shade to them whatsoever. It’s just personally, I really value comments. And you’ll see that because I always try to respond to every comment I get even when they’re a lot. So, today I thought I would share some tips on how to increase comments on your posts. Here are the best ways to do that:

Be Active

I keep saying this on all my advice posts but it’s honestly the best strategy when it comes to blogging. If you are looking to grow the number of comments on your posts organically, you need to be as active as possible. If ever there was a secret to growing your blog, this is it.

When you are active on other blogs and leave genuine comments (please don’t spam them!) they are very likely to do the same. That way, you build a little community of your own. You’re active on their site and they are active on yours. It’s honestly a win-win. And it helps if these blogs are similar to your own because then you’ll have more to talk about.

You also want to be as active as possible on your own site. A lot of bloggers don’t respond to comments or give very curt replies. This dissuades your readers from commenting again because they feel like their comments are not valued by you. You want to be friendly, interact and even ask them questions to keep them engaged. Not only will you make actual friends (something that’s pretty easy to do on WordPress since people are quite friendly here) but you will also see an increase in your comments.

Focus On SEO

SEO is so incredibly vital when it comes to your blog. If you’re looking to grow that is. If you’re simply blogging as a hobby, don’t pay it no mind. SEO is great for increasing Search Engine traffic. After I started taking SEO seriously, I’ve been getting thousands of Search Engine views each year. And each year they increase thanks to the fact that I update older posts to make them more SEO friendly. So, when you have lots of Search Engine views, you also get a good number of comments and followers. Although many email followers prefer to be silent viewers, some are chatty and will leave comments.

If you haven’t started working on your SEO but are hoping to grow your blog, this is your sign to do so. Search Engine views are important and also worth a lot if you’re interested in working with sponsors at some point.

Encourage Your Readers To Comments

You want to always encourage your readers to comment on your posts. What do I mean by that? Well, it would help if you wrote about topics that people can engage with. Things like books, music, TV shows, movies etc are pretty easy to get engagement with. Images are quite popular on this platform too. And even if you share other types of posts, you want to make sure they’re properly written, coherent, have minimal grammar issues or typos etc. If a post is user friendly, you’ll see an increase of comments on that post.

Furthermore, you want your posts to have the kind of tone where readers will want to engage with you. Make them feel like they’re talking to an old friend and that their opinions and thoughts are always welcome.

Lastly, you want to include them in the conversation. For example, I like to leave a few questions at the bottom of the post which helps readers engage more in the comments section. I want them to be part of this and express their thoughts on whatever topic I’m writing about. You never want to make your readers feel isolated.

Never Pay For Comments

In this day and age, you can pretty much pay for everything. And that kind of sucks when it comes to the internet. A lot of people buy likes, follows and yes even comments. It’s not as popular on WordPress but it does happen. The biggest sign is that someone will have like hundreds of likes and not a single comment. Or they will have very obviously bot like comments and none that are actually about the topic of the post.

I always say, don’t pay for things when it comes to blogging. Buying comments is a big red flag to real people who may be considering commenting on your posts. Not just that but if the system marks you as spam, the algorithm will stop pushing your posts which means you’ll get even less comments due to the decrease in traffic overall.

Again, please don’t buy comments. It may seem like a good idea but it will destroy your site over time.

Conclusion

So, that is how to increase comments on your posts. Of course, I’m sure there are other ways too. But these are the methods that work best for me and so I’m sharing them with you.

How do you increase comments on your posts? Do you use any of the methods I mentioned? Do you use any methods I didn’t mention? Are you someone who values comments more than likes and views? Have you ever bought comments? Let me know in the comments below because I would absolutely love to hear from you. Or simply stop by and say hi!

  1. Great advice, Pooja! I’ve been working hard at implementing your advice to increase my followers, comments, & interactions. I appreciate the way you explain everything in simple, easy-to-understand terms.

    1. Thanks so much! I’m glad to hear that and yeah I always try to keep it simple because I know not everyone is that tech savvy.

  2. The major advice I’m struggling with here is being active. I can be so inconsistent on this space. Nonetheless, I must commend your dedication and work to your blog … And Happy New Month too!

    1. Yeah, being active can be difficult. Thanks so much, happy April!

  3. Genuine interaction. What a novel concept, eh? Lost on a lot of bloggers, honestly. Good stuff, Pooja. 🤘

    1. Yup, genuine interaction is always a win! Thanks so much 😊

  4. Very good advice Pooja. I think it’s the genuine comments that make blogging enjoyable.

    1. Thanks so much, I think so too. It’s the best part of blogging.

      1. Indeed. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

  5. I pretty much read every blog I follow (yes I have that much spare time)..I think it’s part of the deal, and if I wasn;t interested, I wouldn’t have started following…I have a lot of strange interests, which may or may not be why I started following a blog called Beauty File…why not? but love the advice….I like interaction, social is important to me…even it virtual and not face to face…

    1. Yeah, I think you should follow blogs you enjoy and actually read. Thanks so much.

  6. Great post great advice Pooja 🌹🌹

    1. Thanks so much 😊

      1. Welcome 🙏 Pooja

  7. No I’ve never paid for comments. That does not sound like a good idea for reasons you mention. Thank you for all this interesting information. I read your SEO For Dummies post as well, and I learned a lot. I have to admit I have not thought much about SEO but I do like to get comments. I am just enjoying myself but I don’t want to be ignored, so I’ve learned that I can’t ignore other bloggers.

I have some Leonberger folks who subscribe to my blog or click on my blog links on Facebook, and I have a lot of family and friends who subscribe and read the emails, or so say tell me, but they never comment. Well sometimes they comment on Facebook (about my blog post). On the other hand, other bloggers will comment on your blog post, so you’ve got to pay attention to other bloggers.

You have a lot of interesting and useful information on your blog.

    1. Yeah, paying for comments isn’t worth it at all. Thanks, I’m glad my SEO for Dummies post was helpful.

I think oftentimes with comments you tend to get more comments from other WordPress bloggers because it’s like a community here that engages with one another. It’s also just easier to comment when you have a WordPress account of your own as compared to commenting with your email.

      Thank you.

  8. It’s a 2 way street.
You do it, and expect people to do it with you. However, in majority of the cases, people don’t get the clue. 😜

If I drop 10 good comments somewhere, I may not get a follow back and comment.

At one point we need to hint about following us.

The comments on my site have dropped, as I’m not able to give much time to others.

Then, wp also screws me time to timem. My posts are not visible to people who follow me

    1. Haha yes, unfortunately so 😅 Yes, WP screws us a lot. Sometimes people don’t get your post on their Reader and other times people don’t get it via email.

      1. So yeah
        You need another post

On how to not get comments on your posts 😛

        1. Lol yes, now I need to share how to not get comments 😅

  9. My biggest issue is staying active, i get distracted often with other things in the day to day and end up putting my blog as last sometimes. Ive been playing with seo, im learning. It was just transitioning when i quit doing web design back in the early 2000s. Back then, you just either submitted your page and the google spiderbots would crawl through your pages or you could just add descriptors to the head of your code. So much has changed since then. Ill have to read your seo for dummies link for sure. As for buying likes and comments, thats just hurting yourself, same way with like4like and follow4follow type schemes. Anyways hope youre doing well, its been crazy here for me theblast couple weeks.

    1. Staying active can be a struggle since real life always comes first. Yes, things have changed so much and SEO changes all the time too although the main things stay the same. Thanks and sorry to hear you’ve been having some crazy weeks. Hope things are better now.

      1. Yeah things are working out a bit. The crazy isnt even peaked yet, that will happen monday im sure with all the eclipse deal.

  10. The comments also help us to know one another. I feel as if I’m building relationships with bloggers like you, Pooja. And I truly enjoy getting to know you.

    1. Absolutely, it’s a great way to get to know other bloggers and connect. I feel the same way, I’m glad we met thanks to blogging.

  11. You really can’t force people to comment, reading maybe one thing, but it’s a whole different step to take time and comment. Busy people after all.
And besides that, not everyone is a Pooja right? 😊

    1. True, people are quite busy. I’ve been blogging since high school and through university and it was really hard for me to make time for blogging back then. Now, as a freelancer it’s a bit easier. 😊

      1. Never leave your love for writing, even if you plan to migrate to another platform, I’m sure we’d all gladly follow u there. You’re a rockstar, Pooja. Keep going! We’re with you on this journey.
And also, I checked out your YouTube channel, it’s awesome to have a face to match the lovely stuff u write here 🤗

        1. Thanks so much, that truly means so much to me. I so appreciate your continued support 🤗

  12. This is such great advice for beginner bloggers like myself! I will be looking at the SEO for dummies. Thank you 😁

    1. Thanks so much, hope it helps! 😊

  13. I am terrible at replying to comments, I feel awkward.

    1. Hey Nicole, sorry to butt in here.
      But.
A lot of bloggers feel that way. And sadly, there is no magic cure. But making it a point to respond to the comments on your own blog does get easier with time and practice. So be encouraged and keep at it 🙂

    2. I understand, socialising is tough even when it’s online. At least for people who have anxiety.

  14. Great advice. I am still thinking about what the focus of my blog should be. SEO is something I need to work on for sure.

    1. Thanks so much. Finding your niche is good, it helps you figure out where you’re headed. SEO is great, helps a lot with growth.

  15. This is good advice. The biggest challenge is when your blog grows, then it takes more time to interact with your followers and when you’re tired from a long day, it’s hard to find the time to do that.

    1. Thanks so much. That’s very true. After my blog grew I started spending much more time on it.

  16. very informative

    1. Thanks so much.

  17. That was an engaging and informative post. Getting comments on blogs excites writers more than anything. And yes, blogs are a wonderful way to connect with like-minded people. It is what drives me to write in the platform.

    1. Thank you so much. I feel that way too, I love getting comments. Definitely a great way to connect with like-minded people. And a good way to practice writing.

  18. Conversation? In real life? I don’t think I’ve actually ever had one. I know what I should have said, could have said, might have said, but I never actually got to say it. When I pause to think, people think I’m finished with a sentence and run away. Once in a while when someone is into the latest pop-psychology fad of “listening,” I’ve abused my chance to speak by, I suppose, pontificating, because I’m so starved of expressing myself by the loneliness of an isolated self. I’ve thought that the internet would be different because it would be like a slow motion conversation: someone begins and I get time to compose my imaginary conversational answer and in the pregnant pause of the delayed written word, they can continue. But it doesn’t happen that way. It’s as bad or worse than an in-person conversation. My boat is dead in the water, there’s a SEO hole in the bottom, it’s taking on water and it’s sinking. If I can swim to the shore, I going to rest, and hope there is a charming actress who has escaped from a romantic comedy and is squatting in the abandoned lighthouse. Although she might turn out to be a deadly Siren from mythology.

    1. Conversations in real life aren’t so great, you’re not missing much.

  19. Great advice. I try to stay as active as possible (keeping up with other people’s blogs and replying to comments) it’s like having a second full time job 🙄😂 I’ve definitely noticed a drop in comments.

    1. Thanks so much. Lol, it really is like a second job but for me it’s a first job now 😅

  20. Such a useful and well-written post! 👏

    1. Thanks so much! 😊

  21. Great post once again Pooja. My metric for success in blogging is the comments. Not necessarily how many, but genuine ones that show the commenter read the post and didn’t just skim it.

My only advice to other bloggers would be to only leave genuine comments. Don’t leave a comment “expecting” the other blogger to leave one in return. That way lies burnout. For me, that means I only follow about 45 people. That is all I can handle. I have found that once I go above the 50mark, I start feeling overwhelmed OR (and this happens more often) I end up mixing up people in my mind. Now that is embarrassing, let me tell you 😀

    1. Thank you so much. Same here, genuine comments help you see how many readers are engaging. I have more time so I follow more blogs but if I don’t enjoy someone’s content I unfollow because I want my Reader to have posts I will actually read.

  22. Great post Pooja and so full of useful info! I have become active with comments in recent months, there are so many awesome writers on this platform! If I like your post, you know I have read it, even if I don’t always comment. I don’t bother too much with SEO, it is so time consuming. I prefer to spend my time typing my own posts ( I am slow typing) and reading and commenting on others. It is time well spent, rather than trying to find new followers. My following is growing anyway, but at a slow enough pace I can adept to.
Thank you for your post and I hope you have a awesome day!

    1. Thank you so much! That’s fair, SEO can be quite complicated and time consuming. Glad you’re growing and have an awesome day too!

      1. Yes, SEO is very time consuming… lol I prefer to spend my time writing.. 🌞

        1. That’s fair haha.

  23. Hi Pooja, thanks for sharing these key points. As someone who once deleted her blog after 7 years, I agree with everything you have said. Have a lovely day 🙂

    1. Thanks so much, glad you agree and sorry you deleted her blog. Have a lovely day 🙂

      1. It’s okay 🙂 Have a lovely day too <3

  24. This is excellent advice, Pooja, and I feel comments are the best part of WordPress. We can learn a lot by reading comments, and getting involved in discussions. I didn’t know one could buy comments which seems to blur the intent of blogging.

    1. Thanks so much. I feel that way too, comments are great and make me feel like part of the community. Yes, we can learn so much and on top of that we can make virtual friends as well. Buying comments is generally done so sponsors/clients think your site is more active than it is but most people can tell they’re bot and it’s not worth it at all.

      1. You’re most welcome, Pooja. That’s unfortunate people buy comments. It’s like they are defeating their own purpose, especially if most can tell it’s a bot. Oh, well.

        1. Yeah, it’s really like that. In the long-run they’re ruining their own stats.

  25. seo is a no go
    big tech yeech
    like maga morons
    hated foes just so eh?

    1. SEO can be very annoying!

      1. so was that text asking me to vote for trump. i said maybe after hell has frozen over.

        1. Lol, I love that response.

      2. as i am i am alone. you puzzle me see. across the water, the rajah s daughter. with sissy fit and hissy. eh oh no not again ha!

  26. It always annoys me how so many content creators fail to respond to their viewers. I get it can be difficult, especially if you have dozens of followers commenting 24/7, yet you should always respond back somehow and someway in my opinion. I don’t know anything about search engines. I’ll look more into that. Thanks Pooja. These posts are very helpful 🙂

    1. Lately, I’ve had 800 emails in my inbox every day. No mater now much time I spend responding to people and visiting their sites, it’s never enough. At this point, I will always be behind. I’m trying to keep up as fast as I can!

    2. Yeah, I think you can at least leave a short comment even if it’s not so responsive. So that your readers know you care. Thanks so much, so glad they’re helpful 🙂

  27. Truthfully, I don’t always have time to stop and make comments, but I definitely give Likes and go out of my way to find people’s sites if they’re difficult to access.

    1. That’s fair, it’s tough to make time. But you’re quite active on your own site which I think is great. It’s a big part of staying active.

  28. So complete in sense and approach, thanks.

    1. Thank you so much.

  29. Great post as always.. I will take your advice into consideration.

    1. Thanks so much, hope it helps.

  30. Great post as always, Pooja. Can’t believe people pay for comments… their blogs must be riveting 😂

Thx for the link about SEO… I’ll check it out!

    1. Thank you so much. Yes, paying for comments is crazy but it’s to make your site seem more active than it is for potential clients etc. Hope the SEO stuff helps!

  31. Wonderful advice Pooja, I’m going to read your SEO link, I have ignored that whole business because it seems confusing. But your link says for dummies so I’m hopeful. I agree with you, staying active and engaging with readers is key and I love the relationships that have developed over the years. Great post. Hugs, C

    1. Thanks so much, hope the SEO post helps. Yeah, it’s confusing at first but once you get the hand of it, it’s great. You get so much more traffic and for example since you’re a writer you’ll get much more sales for your book.

  32. WP MVP Pooja <3 !!!! You reign supreme !!! 😉

    1. Haha thank you!! ☺️

  33. Great post! YOu and I talked about spamming… HATE IT!
SEO is something I’m working on. and I can’t imagine why anyone would pay for likes and comments. I want real or nothing at all!

    1. Urgh yesss spam sucks! SEO helps a lot so definitely something worth taking time to work on. People pay for likes and comments as an easy way out. It makes your site look more active than it is to potential clients. Not worth it though!

  34. great advice as always, Pooja…and we appreciate these shares 🤍

    1. Thank you so much 😊

      1. most welcome 🤍

  35. Engaging with your readers is a big part of the blogging endeavor. It can be time consuming, but it also helps build the community, and the support base you will need on the grind. Genuine engagement is always appreciated by fellow bloggers. This is wonderful advice Pooja G

    1. Absolutely, it’s a huge part of blogging. It’s time consuming but worth it. Thanks so much 😊

      1. You’re welcome PoojaG. 🙏

  36. I love this! Thank you so much

    1. Thank you so much!

    Great post.

    1. Thank you ☺️

  38. It’s a paradox. At some point interacting/being active becomes too much b/c of “success” (not a problem I have). There was a comment above about limits. Or how much can a person truly engage? and with how many people?
~ Is paying for comments in any way like paying someone to listen?

    1. Yeah, the more you interact the more interaction you get and it’s time consuming. It’s fine for me but not everyone has that much time.
No, paying for comments is much worse because it’s bots that leave fake comments on your site. At least with paying people to listen it’s a human being listening to you.

  39. I use most of the advise you have shared today, and yes they work.

Views are great but likes and comments help you put a face/name to the views.

    1. Thank you so much. Yes, absolutely. It shows you who is engaging with your content.

  40. I totally agree with you Pooja… and commenting on other blogs inspires more to comment on yours… that’s a proven:).

    1. Thank you so much. Absolutely, it’s the best way to get comments on your site.

  41. Likes are mostly meaningless, but comments really count (hence this comment…I’d already liked your post, but to be true to my own beliefs I thought I should add this comment too!)

    1. I very much appreciate you leaving a comment and I very much agree with you.

  42. I’m following your suggestion, there are unique and worth applying.

    1. Thanks, glad to hear that.

  43. Very lit post. Oh yes, I totally agree.

    1. Thanks so much, glad you agree.

  44. I think leaving and receiving comments is one of the most meaningful forms of interaction with other bloggers. It also helps make blogging fun!

    1. Oh absolutely, comments are so meaningful since you know the blogger took the time to read and comment. And yes, very fun too!

  45. Are there are still bloggers who buy comments, I think Google will easily detect them, so their websites will be affected.

    1. Yeah, that’s absolutely true but some people still buy comments just to make their sites look more active. It’s really not a good idea.

  46. Buying Likes and Comments? Really? Engaging with your blog readers and commenting on other blogs definitely works. Excellent advice Pooja!

    1. Yup, buying comments and likes is such a silly thing to do. Thank you so much!

  47. Excellent blog post Pooja. Indeed these are great tips for getting enormous and many blog posts on your blog💯🙏

Also, I love the part about being active, that is very useful because it shows that you are a human being who has a heart and loves to read other Bloggers work that somehow relates to you.

Moreover, since I love jokes😀, may I add that a Blogger needs to also be creative when crafting blog posts by infusing them with some humor, that is how you draw the Readers in like a fish caught in the net with no where to go. For example, here is a joke on how you can receive more comments , just post a blog such as this title “STUNNING LADY WITH A BIG ASS NEEDS SOME SUPPORT GUYS” haha that is a funny way of asking men to date you if you catch my drift😂😂😂😂

Lastly, take care Pooja, you the best Blogger here on Jetpack/WordPress🙏

    1. Thank you so much. True, being active is one of the most important parts of blogging.

Lol of course, a clickbait title is the best way to get attention from your readers 😅

Thank you, I think in our own way we’re all the best 😊

      1. Yes Pooja. You the best💯

  48. Very true and I do admit that I am one of them, for sure, but not always…
Always be happy and blessed Pooja🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

    1. Thanks so much, you too 😊

  49. Helpful post, thanks for sharing it.

    1. Thanks, happy to share it.

  50. This is interesting and insightful. I am one of those who struggles to get comments. I guess though part of my blogging experience is for me. I’ve currently started a personal journey blog.

    1. Thank you so much. I think it’s more difficult when you start blogging but over time it’ll get better and you’ll get more comments. Try to stay active, that helps more than anything with comments.

  51. I love this reminder and I’m often not as active on other blog posts as I’d like to be ! Thank you for sharing 🙂

    1. Happy to share and yes being active is important 🙂

  52. I agree being active, that is the key! I don’t use Seo, but I do love to get engagement, and lots of comments, it makes my day!

    1. Oh yes, absolutely!
