Quote Of The Day

Carly Simon Quote:

Carly Simon Quote

What’s Up With Me?

Honestly, I’ve just been preoccupied with the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef recently. It’s been crazy y’all. For those of you that aren’t fans of rap music or haven’t been keeping up with what’s been going on recently, this may you may not be familiar with all this but for those of you that are, let me know your thoughts in the comments below. Whose team are you on if you’ve picked any sides. I don’t think I have to be honest, I’m just listening to the songs and thinking J Cole made the right choice when he apologised and squashed it lol.

I feel like there hasn’t been like a really good beef in a while but all of a sudden everyone is just going after one another. Like the last few days have been wild. I know a lot of stuff has happened to lead up to this but I feel like the pin is just out of the grenade and all hell just broke loose.

I’m trying to keep up with it all and listening to all the tracks since it’s interesting to me. I studied hip hop in a couple of classes in uni so this is really interesting. I’m just going to watch it all unfold and see what happens. But I will say I hope it doesn’t get too crazy and no one gets hurt.

What are your thoughts on this Carly Simon quote? How was last week for you? Any fun plans for this week? Let me know in the comments because I would love to hear from you. Or simply stop by and say hi!

  1. I like the Carly Simon quotation. We tend to think of scars as something to bear, not so much to be ennobled by. I mean physically or figuratively. I have scars from operations and experience. I don’t think of them as noble. Maybe I should.

    1. Yeah, I think we’re so used to thinking of our scars both visible and invisible as a bad thing but in some ways they make us who we are.

  2. No clue what all the beef is about. I’m out of touch with that shit lol
Plans? Working all weekend here, so nothing too exciting on this end

    1. I was out of touch too but this one is really crazy so I’ve been monitoring it lol.
Oof that sucks but I think I’ll be working this weekend too 😭

      1. Well at least you know you’re not alone lol

  3. Hello 👍👍👍

    1. Hi 👋🏼

  4. I have no idea what’s going on, but some guy in my complex, talking incredibly loud on the phone one day, was very invested! He went on for hours, but I couldn’t really make out what he was saying! 🙂

    1. Lol yeah, we’re pretty invested too just because it’s one of the craziest feuds that have happened recently 🙂

      1. I bet if I signed into tiktok I’d catch up really fast.

        1. Any social media really, it’s everywhere.

  5. I like the quote. It goes well with the rapper “beef”. I am heading north this week to visit my daughter & littlest grandsons! I’m super excited💞

    1. Thanks so much and have fun with your daughter and grandsons 😊

  6. Don’t know about the beef, but I like the quote. Was reading about Carly recently. Always liked her music; she and her sisters sang as kids but only she pursued it. Everybody thought she’d only succeed bc her dad is Simon of Simon & Schuster publishing but after numerous gold and platinum records, guess the naysayers have been corrected 😎

    1. Yeah, I think although she probably had help from him you still need to be very talented to be that successful 😊

  7. Ahhhh
    Beautiful and powerful quote.

I didn’t understand what you wrote after that 😝

    1. Yeah, I love the quote. Lol that’s fair, not everyone is into hip hop like that 😅

      1. I’m catching anything new these days.

I’m getting more into bhajans these days 🙂

        1. Oh nice 😀

  8. I know, I’m 65 and hip hop isn’t supposed to be my thing, but I listen to anything as long as it’s got a little soul….and hey, Drake is a Canuck..so I have to be on his right?…..maybe, just lettin’ my back bone slide….weird thing, right now getting into another Canadian that calls himself Classified, Inner Ninja….but if it’s music, well except for a lot of country..I pretty much like everything, but then there’s Keith Urban, Steve Earle, Shania Twain and the Dixie Chicks….and remember Blondie rapping?

    1. I love country too, the Dixie Chicks and Steve Earle are two of my favourites.

      1. did you see the news this morning..a shooting at Drake’s home in Toronto…not sure if he was home…this is crazy….

        1. Oh damn, that’s awful. Hopefully this doesn’t get physical.

  9. This beef has been good for hip hop. The new talent on the block should be the ones doing this, but it has been left to the old heads to create some hype again..it’s been refreshing. 👏👏😜

    1. Yeah, I mean it made Kendrick start dropping music again which I’m thankful for lol. And Drake is rapping like the old Drake again. It’s been interesting 🤔

      1. I sometimes if I’m just biased to the older stuff, and the styles. Kendrick was perhaps the last hip hop artist I listened to and enjoyed. The new stuff challenges me. But I try to stay current. This beef has got me listening again. 👏👏

        1. Yeah, I feel the same way. I grew up listening to a very different hip hop so the new stuff is not always something I enjoy although I try to listen too.

  10. I knew about Chris Brown and Kendrick Lamar, but I have to make sure to update myself since I haven’t had time.

    1. Chris Brown and Drake had major beef too at one point.

      1. There’s a lot of beef out there. Let them be !! At the end they got a lot of money from it 😁

        1. Money and attention so they still win lol.

          1. And we have nothing to gain by watching them fight! 😂😅

            1. Exactly 😅

  11. Got to kindle taste in Rap, the last I heard… Eminem. Thanks for the share. 👏👏

    1. My pleasure and yeah lots of good stuff out there with new rappers too.

  12. Quote reminded me of Tina Turner. Good to be strong but not bitter or overbearing!

    1. Oh yeah, I love Tina Turner.

  13. “there was a problem posting your comment” I don’t know what this is about. Mentioning the disputed names? Don’t know.

    1.     If the xxxxxxxx girls in the Lxxxx-Dxxxx gossip-song debate are real and were contextualized in the Carly Simon quote, they are not ennobled by their scars. Are they? Brave and strong to raise a child on their own, or does everyone get hurt and suffer and have an empty ruined life? According to xxxx magazine, Dxxxx claims he leaked false information to Lxxxx to stir up a song competition of hip-hop “debate” of a vulgar kind.
In a war, many are left dead, either physically or mentally. It is noble that they fought for the survival of the others. But it is tragic. In the symbolic sense of history, it is like the celebration of dueling scars in the fictionalized stories of legendary duels. Some battle songs are charming and up-beat but very ritualized perhaps as they say like a Kabuki dance in politics.

      1. I don’t know, Drake came off looking kinda dumb in the end.

        1. I don’t know. I haven’t followed these things but I can see that it would be too dangerous to even have an opinion. I don’t need to be on a spam list or something. I suppose I have to learn to do trivial chatter without talking about anything with the potential to be serious or controversial. The flowers are blooming and the sun rises every day. Oh nevermind — somebodies going to complain about that being being controversial because it attracts too many bees who sting dogs or something…

  14. I am a hip hop fanatic, always has been. But, I have no time for beef. I never have.

I love that Carly Simon quote, though. Great choice!

    1. Yeah, I totally understand that. They never end well anyway.

      Thank you!

      1. You’re welcome!

  15. I love this quote. I have not been in touch with the social news at all.

    1. Thanks so much and that’s fair.

      1. You’re welcome 😉

  16. Yooo drake is nothing but a looser, he messed with the wrong man, Kendrik is another level artists he spits facts. Drake is just a rapper who got his fanbase from little teens and crazy people. He’s just embarrassing himself and ruining his career… Real people who know hiphop are not to give Drake any kind of support, he shouldn’t have messed with a genius

    1. Yeah, Drake came off looking like a clown in my opinion. The thing is, he makes catchy songs that trend on social media. Kendrick is a real rapper, he’s a real lyricist.

      1. It’s a good beef though, coz it brought kendrick back to the game. They’ll bring back the Tupac and Biggie vibes, lol

        1. Lol for sure and even though I think Kendrick is a better rapper you can tell Drake is trying to bring his A game too. It’s been a while since I’ve heard him actually rap well and not just to make something trendy for social media.

There is a lot of beef going around and I don’t like it 🙂

    1. Yeah, all of a sudden everyone is beefing.

  18. Interesting quote and I think of scars as ‘chalk up to experience’, some good and some bad. My fave music genre is classic rock, however, I like hip hop and some rap. I don’t keep up with who has a beef with who.

    1. Thanks and yeah I think in the end they are all experiences. I love classic rock too, a really great genre.

      1. You are most welcome, Pooja.

  19. I had to catch up on the Drake & Kendrick Lamar feud; I used to be a huge hip hop fan but … changed. Haha. I wouldn’t say I grew out of it because that makes it sound like I think it’s immature and that’s not it. I still listen to UK Grime and Drill sometimes when I want to feel unique. 😅

I’ve never been a Drake fan but I liked a few songs I heard, like the one he did with Giggs (a British rapper so that makes sense for me). I definitely vibe with Kendrick more. A lot of artist’s feuds seem like they’re really just to get attention for the artists and aren’t real, but this one feels real after reading about it! I gotta say, just from the article I read (https://www.billboard.com/lists/drake-kendrick-lamar-beef-timeline/2015-2016-subtle-shots-fired-from-both-sides-but-nothing-groundbreaking/) I would have to side more with Drake because it sounds like he just shrugged everything off for a while while Lamar kept coming at him almost in a desperate way to get attention, lol. But this article is probably biased and missing facts.

    I also can’t help but notice you didn’t mention which team you’re on… 🤔😁

    1. Oops I see the line where you said you haven’t picked a side. I do not accept this and demand you choose! 😅 Jk.

    2. I sort of got over rap a bit as I got older just because I got so into other genres but this has pulled me back in lol.

I don’t support either because if the accusations being thrown around are true they both aren’t great people. BUT I do think Kendrick won just because his lyrics are on point and Drake came off looking dumb for not doing the minimum research before dropping the second diss track. Like he claimed that he fed Kendrick fake info but Drake messed up with the info too and it was literally out there for all to see.

      1. It’s hard to take the side of someone who was once called the softest rapper in the game, too. Haha

        1. It’s not even that he’s soft it’s that his recent stuff is so corny, it just makes me cringe 🫣

  20. clueless 😬 but sounds interesting lol…

really liked the quote, Pooja….thanks for sharing 🤍🌷

    1. Yeah, it’s amusing lol. Thanks so much 😊

      1. pleasure always 🤍

  21. The quote is true. This is why I now proudly wear my hair white after losing it from chemo. I don’t want to color it. It’s a battle scar.

    1. I’m so sorry you had to go through that but I love that it helped you embrace your natural hair colour. It’s definitely a battle scar and a reminder of your victory.

  22. Hi there, Pooja. I’m a Carly fan and like the quote.

    1. Thanks and glad you enjoyed the quote.

  23. Love the quote Pooja … accepting the war (haven’t done yet), plenty of scars and noble as hell, yes (lol)! I gotta an eye on the beef and I’m leaning towards Kendrick, but it’ll all change on the flip-side! Great beefy post and can’t wait for another serving (hahaha)!

    1. Glad you enjoyed the quote! Yes, we all have many scars but this way of looking at it is good. I’m leaning towards Kendrick too just because his music is better in my opinion. I don’t really support either. Thank you!

      1. As long as the beef doesn’t get bloody, I’m all for a slab (lol) ~ <3

        1. Exactly, I just hope it doesn’t get physical otherwise it’s pretty entertaining 🤷🏻‍♀️

          1. Crazy, but just a few moments ago, I heard Drake’s security guy was shot last night … OOOH !!!

            1. I heard about that but apparently that had to do with Drake and The Weeknd.

  24. I gotta say, I’m way behind here.. it’s what happens when you go underground.. so what’s the beef, where’s the beef? ha.. love the quote💕

    1. Lol you came out with so much happening 😅 Thank you!

  25. I’d forgot you studied Hip-Hop (as well as Country) in university. I’d love it if you would do a blog on a comparison and contrast between the two music genres.
~ Music is so central to who we are, both collectively and as individuals.
~ I’ve never been much into rap, I don’t follow it. But Hip-Hop a little because of Dessa – a white female from Minnesota, who’s also a poet, writer, and philosopher.

    1. Yeah, I should do a post like that since the two genres actually have tons in common. Something most people don’t think.

It’s true, music in a way makes us who we are.

  26. Great quote.

So I have not actively followed the beef between the two rappers but being on the X app. I have seen many posts by the people I follow, it looks like hot beef.

    1. Thanks so much, yes the beef is a big one so it’s all over social media.

  27. Sorry Pooja, I have never heard of Kendrick Lamar or Drake. 🤷‍♀️
We should wear our scars, both physical and emotional, with pride. They show we survived!

    1. That’s okay, it’s only big in hip hop circles. Yes, absolutely. Our scars make us who we are and are a reminder of our victories 💕

  28. Is it something in the air that makes people go at each other? I have noticed it here too, you can blame the stars but it may be just the season that makes us more agitated than usual. I love the quote, it makes me think of Marina Abramovic and her book that I am still working on. Strong woman, big scars…

    1. Maybe it’s the weather changing, people were in slumber mode in winter but now they have a lot more energy to fight.
That’s interesting, I don’t know much about her but she seems to fit the quote well.

  29. Beautify quite… That strengthens them, imbuing them with resilience and courage to rise above all challenges, emerging victorious, with unbroken spirits and unwavering determination…
    Always be happy and blessed🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

    1. Thanks so much and yes very much so.

  30. Sorry, it’s not Beautify quite, supposed to be Beautiful Quote…

  31. Their beef is a mess! LOLOLOL

    1. Lol it’s been crazy!

  32. Oh, Pooja, such accurate words to describe the world… the “pin out of the grenade” – it certainly feels that way with all the “going after one another.” Some find it intellectually stimulating to argue; I just find it exhausting, and have no time or will for it.

    1. Thanks so much. Yes, I think it can be intellectually stimulating but at the same time I think neither wins because they’ve aired out all their dirty laundry leaving us with two not very nice people.

      1. You’re absolutely right! No winners. Why is humanity so clueless on this in general? It’s astonishing. 😓

        1. It’s sad that people don’t see something so obvious 😕

  33. I’ve been following the beef as well and whoooo boy. lol.

I don’t know if I’m Team Kendrick as much as I am Team Please Somebody Get Drake Out of Here so I have GREATLY enjoyed watching him get dragged by the entire industry (albeit late because dude has been a cornball for nearly a decade).

As much as I love the tracks (Kendrick has truly put on a clinic), my favorite bit by far is the “BBL Drizzy” beat contest. lmao.

    1. The “BBL Drizzy” beat has been stuck in my head since it came out 😅

Lol yeah, I’ve definitely had enough of Drake and love watching him finally get called out. I’m not Team Kendrick either per se but he is really killing it with his tracks.

  34. I’m always up for celebrity dramas LOL x

    1. Lol, same here.

Cool quote! I’m not really into Rap and such. In other music news, Drake’s security guard was shot and seriously injured at Drake’s Toronto home. I know you spent some time in Ontario so thought it might be of interest.

    1. Thanks so much! Yeah, I heard about that but interestingly the shooting had to do with a different beef.

      1. A & J PEI Treasures/E Jean Simpson, BEd, BA, MA Avatar
A & J PEI Treasures/E Jean Simpson, BEd, BA, MA

Too many beefs get people killed. Anger issues seem to be pretty rampant. It’s sad. Very few things in life should be that vicious.

        1. Agreed, I think they need to not take these beefs that seriously. It’s not worth the violence.

  36. I like the quote and stay safe. Pooja

    1. Thank you so much, stay safe too.

  37. 🙂 🙂

  38. You’re welcome and it’s nice day here today. Stay well and safe.

    1. That’s wonderful and stay well and safe too.

  39. I love that in 2024, two grown men still beef with each other by writing angry poems about each other. Lol.

I love that quote. I’m a very big Carly Simon fan. She has one of my favorite voices of all time.

    1. Lol honestly I think all disagreements should be dealt with by sending one another angry poems.

      Thanks, she’s amazing for sure.

      1. Which side of the Kendrick / Drake beef are you on? Or did you take a side?

        1. I’m not taking a side lol. Just enjoying the poetry haha.

  40. I love rap and hip hop but I was not aware of what was going on? Guess I need to keep in the know more! I’m out of the loop! X

    1. Yeah, this is like a very new feud so you may not have gotten into it yet!
