A Random Post About WordPress

coffee writing computer blogging | A Random Post About WordPress

I’ve been meaning to write about a few things for a while now but had gotten busy. So, I decided to write a random post about WordPress where I kind of put all the information out together.

I want to start by saying that recently, I’ve noticed the absence of Renard from Renard’s World. Many of us have. There have been multiple posts written regrading his absence. When going to his URL, it says that the blog has been deleted which is so odd. He doesn’t seem like the kind of guy who would delete his site all of a sudden. I just really hope he’s alright and that if this was done by hackers or by mistake that he is able to regain access to his blog. He was a wonderful part of this community and is very much missed.

Second, we need to talk about the many changes and glitches happening on WordPress. It’s like they keep making changes to things that were fine to begin with and ignore the complaints and changes we’re actually asking for. And not just that, these changes keep causing glitches. I’ve been experiencing quite a few recently and it’s frustrating.

So, that’s it for today, just a random post about some stuff going on in our WP community. I felt like I haven’t whined in a bit lol.

  1. I’ve seen a few posts about Renard’s missing blog. I followed him too…hope he’s okay.

    1. I hope so too, this is so unlike him which is what’s worrying.

  2. There are numerous glitches, some that last a while, some that pop in and out. The thing that frustrates me most is, on the Jetpack app, if I click on your comment to respond, it doesn’t take me there, it drops me somewhere else and I have to scroll through all those reams of comments to find it. Seems like they should be able to make that work…

    1. I somehow found the WordPress app much better than Jetpack. Agree they are issues and at times app functioning irritates.

      1. That’s really interesting.

    2. That sounds so annoying, I hope they make some changes to the app to make it more user friendly. And to fix the glitches.

  3. Pooja, I too noticed that Renard’s blog is gone, so sad! I hope he is okay too. It doesn’t seem like something Renard would do but none of us can know what the reason(s) are.

I’ve noticed that when I type a comment in reply that the button to send the comment doesn’t work. This happens only on a few blogs which is good.

    1. It’s definitely sad, he was a major part of this community. I just hope he’s okay.

How annoying. These glitches are getting more and more every day.

  4. I’ve said my peace on Renard’s disappearance many times now. Just hope whatever the circumstances surrounding it, he is well.

As for WP glitches, I’ve just accepted that they don’t care lol

    1. I hope so too, I hope he’s okay.

Lol yeah, they absolutely don’t care. That’s why I complain here and not to HE’s that are often of no help.

      1. That name has to be the most ironic one of all.

        1. They should seriously consider changing it to unhappiness engineers…

          1. Truly most accurate lol

  5. I noticed that he was using AI preview images recently but I figured that was probably a personal preference. Prior to that he didn’t use them but started using them. Not long after that he disappears. It’s strange. A couple of days ago his posts were still showing up on the reader but now they’re gone. I didn’t notice it until you mentioned it.

All I know is that he said he was using the free WP version so idk why someone would have hacked it. I hope that he’s okay.

    1. It’s definitely quite strange. I noticed his use of AI images recently too but like you I just thought he was trying out something new. I hope he’s alright.

  6. Pooja, I hope Renard is okay too. If his brand was taken over by hackers, I feel he is savvy enough to resolve the issue. If he has a backup of his blog, then he should be able to retrieve it. I hope he doesn’t give up on blogging and will make a huge comeback.

I’ve had problems with the comments slow loading or not loading at all but only on a few blogs.

    1. I hope that happens and even if he decides not to return to WP I just hope he’s alright.

I have that issue but with images, for some blogs the images don’t load or load very slowly.

      1. When I was on the Creator plan, I opted for Jetpack’s additional features. One of the features was image sizing and how it affects a blog. I have resized most of my images to avoid slow loading. I no longer have the Creator plan or the Jetpack program but it taught me how important it is to resize images. I run all of my images through Squoosh which optimizes and resizes images. What’s interesting, it was Renard that told me about Squoosh, which is free to use. I’m still working on resizing my images and it it very time-consuming but worth it.

        1. I resize images too and it helps a lot with load times. Renard had lots of great information like that, that’s one of the main reasons we enjoyed his posts so much.

          1. Yes, Renard’s posts were very helpful in many ways.
I think some themes, especially older one’s don’t fare well with large images, even with adjustments.

            1. That’s true and I also think with larger images it can cause issues on the Reader.

  7. thoughts please
    none of that
    way too painful

    1. Yes, thinking hurts…

      1. why i limit myself to what s for lunch and are the o s ahead?

  8. Yeah, Renard’s blog disappeared, and it’s just weird. I’m with you on the WP changes—a lot of unnecessary changes for sure.

    1. It’s very weird and so unlike him.

Absolutely, unnecessary changes that are making this platform less user friendly.

  9. Yes, WordPress is constantly messing around with their site, but it hasn’t bothered me.

    1. That’s good. In general, I don’t mind but the glitches it creates for me has been annoying.

  10. I’m not having any issues right now with WordPress. *Knocks wood* I don’t want to talk any up, though. 😆😂🤣

    1. Lol, fingers crossed your blog stays glitch free 😅

      1. Amen! Lol.

  11. I’ve had backups…and it has helped keeping my blog posts safe. Can’t let all my good thoughts go to waste just like that. I’ve literally bound 2-3 books with printed stuff of all my posts.

    1. That’s really good, it’s always a good idea to have backups of your content.

  12. I wonder if it’s time to move away from WordPress to another platform… I’m sure there are plenty out there, not sure how good they are in comparison but worth a try.

    1. I want to move but other platforms are worse which is what keeps me here.

  13. Yes, I have noticed a few glitches too, Pooja. I even had a whine about one in particular last week which now seems to have been rectified. Happy blogging. 😉

    1. I’m glad that one was a fixed, sometimes you just need a good whine lol. Thanks, happy blogging 😅

  14. Yes, I’ve noticed changes and glitches. Quite frustrating.

    1. It really is, one of the glitches I experience with comments is so annoying because I have to keep reloading.

      1. I think I’ve had that too! I’m in the middle of writing a comment and the screen resets.

        1. Yeah, I find that so annoying. Another one is that my notifications have multiple glitches these days.

  15. Well wishes for Renard. As for WP, something or other always there troubling us all. Thanks. 👏

    1. Yes, hope he’s weak. So true. Thanks so much.

  16. I’ve about had it with WordPress. It’s become clunky and difficult and expensive. I can’t even put up the photos I want because of lack of room. My traffic is now a sixth of what it was and it no longer does what I wanted it to do. I used to have a nice community with lots of interaction. That’s gone. Lots of people/friends have dropped out. When my present contract ends I’m not paying again.

    1. I know what you mean, traffic is down and they keep trying to increase the prices more and more.

  17. I know. A lot of sites these days make changes when none were really needed. And I can say as a former programmer, they are not always doing a going job testing the changes. And I think it is going to get worse as they begin to use more automated processes (so called ai). Best wishes Phil

    1. I’ve always wondered why programmers don’t set up an outside unprivileged account from a non-administrator location to test the company site as an ordinary person. But with all these “security” “improvements”, I suppose they’d have to fly to another country to test the system as an “anonymous” ordinary person. But, anyway, shouldn’t a system always be tested from the outside? An “outside” test used to be a basic principle in all fields. I remember when they first started making “instant” foods( I’m not sure if it was instant pudding or jello) they had a lot of surprises. They were getting complaints from women saying that the product did not firm up. They tested it with their in-house chefs and it always worked. Finally, they brought in some homemakers to their lab and just observed. Half did OK, but half did not. Finally they watched more carefully. The ones that licked the spoon got bad results. The problem turned out to be enzymes in their saliva that had a chemical reaction when they put the spoon back. Anyway, some programmers need to spit into the wind.

      1. P.S. I don’t know, maybe the programmers should do like the military does and have “war games” with two teams: one team acts as the company people and the other team acts as customers.

      2. That would honestly help so much, or at least they could take into consideration the suggestions given by actual users who use this platform regularly.

      3. Of course you can always do your own user testing when you think there is a new release. But to do robust testing you need to see the code and make sure all of it executes properly. I have done alot of testing in my day and I doubt they are doing much of either. They rely on customers/users to complain. And what irks me is these software companies have plenty of cash. It is sad. Phil

    2. I think so too, unfortunately. I just hope they don’t ruin this platform because I really do enjoy WP and would hate to have to leave. Thanks.

      1. Me too! I have been here on and off since 2014!

        1. Hopefully, they’ll listen to their users and actually improve the platform.

  18. Man, that is sad to hear about Renard. That kind of thing happening is what kills “community spirit” when someone just ups and disappears and nobody knows why. It’s also why having multiple social sites is important. Let people know.

As for WP. Oh my goodness. They keep messing around, week in and week out. And it doesn’t accomplish anything, except usually to remove some functionality or hide an option that benefits us users. I’m not ready to leave yet, but I feel like I’m being paper cut to death, you know?

    1. True, I think more than anything it’s the lack of explanation which is what’s really hurting the community. We’re so used to reading his posts daily and now his site is just deleted with no explanation. He had a Pinterest too but from what I’ve heard that has been deleted as well.

Absolutely, they mess around with it with no proper heads up to users. And they do nothing but make it less and less user friendly. I feel the same way. I so want to stick with WP since I love blogging and this community but it gets harder and harder with every change they make. And them trying to force AI on us is not sitting well with me at all.

  19. I hope he is fine!!

As for Wp glitches, one needs to spend time here to figure it out haha

I’m fed up of this thing.

I am fed up of Wp in general

    1. I hope so too!

Lol true. It’s frustrating and I’m getting quite fed up too. A few years ago you could get hundreds of followers by just posting good content. Now you have to work so hard for barely any followers.

  20. Are we even surprised lol WordPress has been like this since forever. I’m logging in to my profile after a few weeks today so I didn’t know about these new glitches, but guess what I just saw? It shows I’m not subscribed to your blog (so I just followed you again).
I hope the issue with Renard’s blog is fixed as soon as possible. We all miss him.

    1. Lol yeah, it’s been annoying for a minute. It used to be amazing when I first started on WP (2015) but it’s gone downhill since like 2021. Thanks for refollowing my blog, I’ve had to do that for a number of blogs too.

I hope so too, Renard was a big part of this community and it’s empty without him.

  21. I left a negative review on the app store out of frustration. 😆 At least I know someone from the company reads those because they respond. I don’t expect a very thoughtful response but if enough people mention the same things they might eventually assign one junior developer to it.

    1. Lol, fingers crossed someone sees it 😭

  22. The developers have to do *something* to justify being employed…

    1. This isn’t the thing to do lol.

  23. It’s so strange and odd when people disappear. Like back when I had a Youtube channel I once followed and befriended this girl from New Zealand. We didn’t talk a lot, but were in touch, until she suddenly vanished. Like she deleted her channel and all of her socials. I always think about what could of happen to her. WordPress is acting so funky lately. I’m glad to not be posting as often and worrying less cause the issues on this website have become so frustrating xo.

    1. It is, it’s such an odd feeling even if you don’t know them in person.

  24. When a blogger like Renard dissapears who kept telling you to keep on blogging and never give up it is more than strange. I have put in a prayer that he is all right. WordPress helped me a lot when I started blogging because it was for free. Now I chose to add another free blog to my other themed blogs and found that it was much more difficult to do but I managed still I am not happy that I cannot promote my blog without having to spend money on this. So I keep blogging and hoping the followers will come as I share it on social media along with my other ones. I hope you have a good start to the weekend which seems to be quickly coming along,

    1. So true, I think that’s why it’s so odd. He said multiple times that he loved blogging and wouldn’t leave it. I really hope he’s okay too.

I know what you mean, my original blog was created in 2015 and it was so easy then. Now, when I tried again it was so unnecessarily complicated and there were quite a few glitches too.

Have a great start to the weekend too.

  25. Thanks for expressing your concerns. Renard matters, and he matters because he’s missed. As for the WordPress site and process, I’ve noticed changes that seem unimportant and become something else to learn. The placement where feature photos are added to posts, for example. I wonder if it’s a measure of success that something must be always changing. The rhetoric says that change is for improvement. But when the changes aren’t necessary and, in fact, get in the way, then both the rhetoric and changes are ersatz. Sigh. I hope you’re having a fine week!

    1. Yes, he absolutely matters. It’s so strange to see him just up and leave when he used to post daily and talk about how much he loved blogging. I hope he’s okay.

I think if they want to genuinely change for improvement they need to listen to us users who use this platform regularly. I feel like a lot of our glitches are left unfixed only for them to spend hours/days/months making insignificant changes to the design.

I’m having a good one and hope you are too!

  26. I was thinking the changes are driven by software needs, but then I thought about retail stores and how they change things around just when you get used to where everything is. Then again maybe it is the same people coming up with the changes there too 😉

    1. Lol maybe there’s a group of people just going around changing where everything is making it harder for us for no reason 😅

      1. We can start a conspiracy theory and call the group “The Changinati” 😊

        1. I’m fully invested in it now, “The Changinati” are real. Wake up people 😅

          1. Pooja G for world president! Ha, ha.

            1. I mean, I’d vote for me 😉

  27. Everything by design. I think WP knows exactly what they are doing, just look at the end results.

    1. Yeah, I’m with you on that.

Sorry to hear about the disappeared blog. I know when I got sick during the fall, I managed to delete my account and had to start all over…so when there is a lot on one’s mind things can happen. Hopefully it all works out.

    1. That’s true, it’s a mistake that can be made when we’re preoccupied with something else. Hopefully he’s okay.

      1. A & J PEI Treasures/E Jean Simpson, BEd, BA, MA Avatar

        Hopefully.

  29. We are concerned about Renard and his blog. I hope he reaches out with an explanation. The WP makes changes to how we blog almost daily. So it’s something new every day 😒😱

    1. I really hope so too. Absolutely, it’s a new design every day which is so difficult to get used to 😭

      1. If I didn’t liked the community so much, I would have considered moving my blog.

        1. I feel the same way.

          1. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

  30. They be testing us every week with these changes and glitches. Rather frustrating. 🥺

    1. For real, it’s been so annoying 🙄

  31. what a shame about Renard’s blog❣️❣️
Ok now, PLEASE WP DO NOT TAKE ME BACK TO THE BEGINNING OF READER EVERY TIME I MAKE A COMMENT ON A BLOG!!!!! I DO NOT have time to devote my whole life to you!!!!!!!!! EVERY DAY THERE IS A NEW PROBLEM.

    1. That’s so annoying, WP please fix that!! 😭

  32. Lets hope WP looks into and solves all issues

    1. Yes, I really hope so.

  33. Yes for sure, he is missing! There are so many glitches here.

    1. So many glitches. And hope he’s okay.

      1. I hope he is too!

  34. I am experiencing glitching and sometimes even though I scheduled my posts they remain in the schedule block!! 😕

    1. That’s so annoying! 😔

    2. Isn’t that because you did not have a visit that triggers the schedule feature? To avoid that issue, I got a CRON JOB site to help me so posts are always posted at the time I’ve set. If that is not is, I hope your problems with the schedule feature go away. That is truly annoying.

      1. Thank you very much for your advice. I have made a report to WordPress engineers and they fixed the problem.

        1. That’s great! I’m glad the Happiness Engineers helped you out.

          1. Yes, definitely !! 😊

  35. Hey Pooja, I have noticed that lots of my WP friends are missing in action. Sadly I have no clue what’s up with that. I have also noticed significant tech issues on my end, trying to use WP is an ordeal sometimes, takes all the joy out of it.

    1. It’s the same for me. Multiple bloggers I enjoyed have disappeared and the glitches are there constantly. It’s so frustrating.

      1. I don’t know if they are going to do something about it but I really hope so

        1. I hope so too.

  36. Renard is such a positive poster and I love when he says God’s/Goddess’s Truth

    1. Yeah, he used to say thst so often. It was really cool.

  37. I just searched my emails looking to see if he wrote a goodbye post or something as I know Renard said he would never delete his blog or start all over again, and I found this post. I’m guessing we’re all left wondering what happened. Hopefully he’s fine.

    1. Yes, I never thought he would delete his blog either since he was always vocal about how much he loved WP and blogging. I really hope he’s okay.

  38. Where is Renard?????
Thats something that has been bugging me for a while… considering one of the last posts he made was on the gravity of deleting a blog.
Over the years we had shared the similar views on having our blog spaces outlast us (which was one of the reasons I opted to keep my blog on WordPress.com than migrate it to a self-hosted).
The deletion of his blog is so uncharacteristic that its very worrying…
Its strange how over the years we make connections in the blogging spaces which can be easily ended by the click of button…
    ~B

    1. It’s definitely odd. I specifically remember him saying he would never delete his blog so this feels so odd to me. I just hope he’s okay.
Yes, even when we feel like we know someone we really don’t when it comes to the internet.

  39. I’ve actually seen two people leave their blogs in the past month due to having too many issues dealing with glitches. Things used to be so easy on here. And I wrote about the missing Renard as well!

    1. That’s so sad but yeah a number of people are leaving. Renards absence has definitely been noticed by us all, it’s so sad to see his blog deleted.

  40. Hey there Pooja! I just searched for posts about WordPress and found your blog so I just had to come in and say hi.

I agree with you. WordPress is being weird lately, changing a lot of stuff, rarely for the better. And Renard missing is just even weirder. Let’s hope these mysteries will end soon.

    1. Hey, thanks so much for stopping by!

Yeah, I’ve noticed some weird glitches because of the constant changes which makes blogging more difficult for me. Renard missing is definitely odd, he said so many times that he loves blogging and wouldn’t delete his blog. I just really hope he’s alright.

      1. Same here.

  41. Oh dear, that’s not good. Get well soon.

    1. Thank you, I’m doing much better now.

  42. I had a blog. After 3 1/2 years very few people ever read any of it. I shut it down. Now I have resurrected the old blog. Out of boredom, mostly. Very few people have, or most likely ever will, read any of it (I expect). WordPress writers and readers are not my target audience, apparently, but that’s OK. Beats boredom.

    1. I understand, I think many bloggers tend to blog more as a hobby than anything else. And that’s totally fine. If you do want to get more views, I have some advice posts with easy tips on how to do so.
