Amazon Summary
“You must be our new neighbors!” Mrs. Lowell gushes and waves across the picket fence. I clutch my daughter’s hand and smile back: but the second Mrs. Lowell sees my husband a strange expression crosses her face. In that moment I make a promise. We finally have a family home. My past is far, far behind us. And I’ll do anything to keep it that way…
I used to clean other people’s houses—now, I can’t believe this home is actually mine. The charming kitchen, the quiet cul-de-sac, the huge yard where my kids can play. My husband and I saved for years to give our children the life they deserve.
Even though I’m wary of our new neighbor Mrs. Lowell, when she invites us over for dinner it’s our chance to make friends. Her maid opens the door wearing a white apron, her hair in a tight bun. I know exactly what it’s like to be in her shoes. But her cold stare gives me chills…
The Lowells’ maid isn’t the only strange thing on our street. I’m sure I see a shadowy figure watching us. My husband leaves the house late at night. And when I meet a woman who lives across the way, her words chill me to the bone: Be careful of your neighbors.
Did I make a terrible mistake moving my family here?
I thought I’d left my darkest secrets behind. But could this quiet suburban street be the most dangerous place of all?
The Housemaid Is Watching By Freida McFadden Review- My Thoughts And Opinions

I have been a fan of Frieda McFadden since I read the first of this series, The Housemaid. And, I shared my review of that book as well as the second one and was excited to share a review of The Housemaid Is Watching By Freida McFadden as well. I decided to read the book while I took a break from WordPress recently and I can assure you that I was not disappointed.
Plot
I really enjoyed the plot for this book. When I shared my review of the second book in this series, The Housemaid’s Secret, my biggest complain was that there weren’t enough twists and turns for my liking. And the twists it did have were somewhat predictable, unlike the first book. It seems McFadden listened to our complains (multiple people had mentioned this) because The Housemaid Is Watching is filled with unpredictable twists and turns.
I don’t want to give it all away because I know with books like this one, the unpredictable twists is what keeps it interesting. However, I will say that things tie together really well at the end and the book will keep you wanting more. I finished it in a day because I just could not put it down.
I will say this though, like all her books the story takes a little while to build up. The start is a little slow but I very much think that this is necessary to get the reader invested in the story otherwise they would be lost. So, don’t give up because the first few chapters are a little slow, trust me when I say it gets so good.
Characters
I very much enjoy McFadden’s characters. I love that she has multiple strong female characters that also show their weaknesses and vulnerabilities. Being a strong woman isn’t about being perfect, it’s about doing your best no matter your circumstances.
Her characters are very realistic and human which makes it easier for readers like myself to connect with the characters. I also like that she deals with real world problems in her book like abuse. It makes the characters more down to Earth.
Lastly, I want to say that I love that her characters evolve with each book. The one thing about being human is that things constantly change and our lives and personalities are always evolving. That’s what makes being human exciting. I hate when characters are stagnant even if it helps the story because that throws me off. However, with every new book in the series we see the characters and in particular the main character evolve and I love seeing that for her.
Overall
Overall, I genuinely enjoyed this book and it’s not just because I was on an ungodly amount of cough syrup. This book Brough back elements of the first book that made me fall in love with this series and I really appreciated that. It was exciting, unpredictable, touching, emotional and had gasping. It was everything a good thriller should be. Was it my favourite of the series? No, the first one remains my favourite. But it was a pretty close second.
If you enjoy murder mysteries and thrillers, do check out this book. And start from the first one in the series if you haven’t read that one yet because otherwise you’ll be pretty lost.
