Martin Luther King Jr. Quote

Martin Luther King Jr. Quote

What’s Up With Pooj?

I chose this quote because I don’t know if it’s the fact that I’m older and more conscious now or if it’s just that the world has changed but there is so much hate out there. I see so much hate everywhere. And I wish more people chose love instead.

As for what’s up with me, I made pizza from scratch today for the first time in my life. Everything from the pizza dough to the pizza sauce to the vegan cheese was handmade by me. It was such a fun experience and I am happy to report that it was a success. Everyone in my family enjoyed it and my cousins who had come over for unrelated reasons also ended up trying to and enjoying it. It tasted just like the pizza’s you get at pizza places. Everything turned out just perfect. I enjoyed it with some Takis (the purple ones are vegan).

Here some pics:

Here’s the recipe I used for the pizza dough, if anyone is interested:

What I’m Listening To This Week:

I’ve mentioned this before but I’m a huge fan of The Smiths. So, they will be featured on this blog often. This song is one of my favourites by them.

    1. Thanks so much, it tasted amazing.

      1. I have saved the post and will try re recipe one day

        1. Let me know if you like it when you make it.

          1. Okies, will do. Thanks for sharing 🥰

            1. Happy to share it 😊

              1. 😍😍😍

  2. This pizza can only provoke love, no hate.
Nice work, Pooja! It looks like a peace of art. I made pizza from scratch, it was yummy. My nickname was Pizza girl, it’s historically accurate if you go back to Denver, years 2015-2016.

    1. Haha yes, the pizza was incredible! Oh nice, good job Pizza Girl. It must have been quite memorable to earn you that nickname.

      1. I worked in Amore Pizza, in the art district in Denver. I wanted to be famous for my art, but somehow I got famous for pizza making. They all knew me by my accent 🤣 it was and still is a distinctive feature

        1. Haha that’s interesting, I’ve always liked the Eastern European accent.

          1. I wish I could get rid of it but it’s not happening haha

            1. It makes you special!

                1. You’re very welcome!

  3. That quote is profound truth.

    1. I think so too.

  4. An important and excellent quote, also the pizza looks incredibly delicious! Amazed it’s vegan. Congratulations!

    1. Thanks so much, yeah it was hard to find a good vegan recipe but this turned out great. And the cheese looked “cheesy” too even though I made it from potato.

      1. That’s a major discovery!

        1. It is, it’s so hard to make vegan replacements because the recipes aren’t always great. So to find one is so major!

  5. Amen Pooja on quote and your encouraging words. The pizza looks good. I plan to order a copy of your book soon. Enjoy.

    1. Thank you so much. I’ll be very grateful for your order and I hope you enjoy the poems.

  6. he was an amazing man……he was that gap at the time between the Black Panthers and everyone else….his work with Kennedy and then with Johnson brought about the civil rights act….that disappeared with his influence…..along with Terry Fox, MLK quotes totally inspirational

    1. Absolutely, he was incredible.

  7. Ooh, pizza success story!

Yes, love is what turns hate around. I have found the people who hate others more profoundly are simply reflecting what’s inside of them. Learning to like ourselves is a small step, but so vital, for if thousands and thousands of people learn to like and to even love themselves, there are that many less haters, and the ripple effects into their families can be life altering!

    1. Thank you!

I completely agree, most of the time people are hateful because of something internal. The more we love ourselves the more we love those around us.

  8. That pizza looks so good !

    1. Thank you!

      1. It reminds me of a pizzeria style pizza . I miss the brick oven kind

        1. It tasted quite similar to pizzeria style pizza, so delicious.

  9. Mm yes please! Your creation looks so delicious, Pooj!

I agree on the hate issue, Pooja, I’m 63 and can say with confidence that the level of overall hate in this world has elevated significantly since the 70s. So very sad, and what will the world be like in twenty years on?

    1. Thank you, it tasted even better than it looked!

I agree with you. Although I haven’t lived in the 70’s, I have studied very specific history from the 60’s and 70’s. I think there were so many steps taken in the right direction back then. A move towards love and unity. It’s sad that things have gone backwards since then. I don’t even know what the world will be like in twenty years. It honestly scares me a little to think about.

      1. Maybe even scarier.

        1. Yeah, the future isn’t looking great. I try to stay hopeful but it’s not been looking good recently.

          1. Not at all, Pooja. The IS is on the slippery slope to ruin politicallly.

            1. It’s the same here too. And in a lot of countries, unfortunately.

              1. 😭😭

  10. I grew up with my mom making pizza from scratch and so once I got into my teenage years, that aspect of dinner started falling to me. It was a big group effort. Making dough, creating the sauce, cutting up vegies and meats (usually turkey hotdogs and ground turkey) and grating the cheese. We made ours in the big rectangular cookie sheets, so after it was cooked, we also had to take scissors and cut up into 12 or 15 pieces per sheet. We always made 2 and sometimes 3, because my younger brother and I could almost always eat an entire sheet ourselves. And once I hit 16, I could do that almost by myself, hahahaha 😀

Sadly, I’ve gotten lazier as I’ve gotten older, so the last time I made a pizza from scratch on my own was probably close to 10 years ago.

    1. That sounds so fun. A great family activity. Wow, being able to eat an entire pizza is impressive. I think this is your sign to make pizza from scratch again 😄

  11. There’s not just hate

It’s insincerity, lack of empathy and support.

But our wp community is far from hate.

    Congratulations on your pizza

What you use instead of cheese?
How you give it cheesey texture?

    1. Yes, that’s what’s killing society. Especially the lack of empathy. I’ve met people that are borderline sociopathic. I think WP is proof of what the world could be like if people were kinder and more accepting of those that are different from themselves.

Thank you! I used a potato to make vegan cheese. I boiled it and ground it up with some spices and water to give it a more liquid texture. It cooked so nicely and although it didn’t taste particularly cheesy it looked so much like cheese. Both my cousins were fooled by it lol.

  12. I agree, there is too much and we all need to calm down before we think of anything else to do. Social media seems to make that impossible, though.

So what am I listening to? Here are three:
    “Lucky Number” by Lene Lovich
    “Fly by Night” by Rush
    “Jessie’s Girl” by Rick Springfield

    1. Absolutely, I think social media is very much pitting people against one another. But in some ways it’s also showing us the true thoughts of people who no longer feel the need to hide their internal ugliness.

“Jessie’s Girl” is such a classic, love that song.

  13. ❤️ The quote.

    Pizza looks yum 😋

    1. Thank you ☺️

  14. We often have homemade pizza, Pooja. I tend to make a batch of pizza bases and freeze them (gluten free and vegan so that my son can use them too). Toppings are usually leftovers from the fridge.

    1. Oh yum. That’s a great idea, I think I’ll freeze some next time too. It’ll make things easier.

  15. Words of wisdom.

    1. Absolutely, MLK Jr. was an incredibly wise person.

      1. I totally agree.

  16. Well done for the pizza.

    1. Thanks so much.

  17. Wow, I can smell the fragrance here. I am really hungry right now. LOL. Let me guess the toppings: Takis? They look like purple onions? Green peppers? Vegan pepperonis? Tomato sauce? And you made the dough too? How sweet. I usually just buy a pizza crust and I am getting too lazy. LOL. And your pizza looks soooo good.

    1. It was so delicious. Our house smelt like pizza for the rest of the evening haha. You’re almost spot on with the toppings. The only thing is I didn’t add vegan pepperonis. I wanted to but didn’t have any at home lol. Yup, I made every single thing from scratch. It was a lot of work but it was fun too. But less work than I expected actually. It’s mostly just mixing ingredients for the dough and then letting it sit. Try the recipe I’ve shared, it’s so simple but delicious. Thanks so much.

  18. I have made pizza from scratch when I was much younger. I found it was not quite the same as a good pizza place (not those cheap chain ones). The manager of my favorite pizza place told me the secret is the heat of the oven which is between 800 and 900 degrees F. My grandmother used to make very good home made pizza in our old wood stove oven which would get a temp up around 500 to 600 F.

    1. True, it’s not exactly the same since the ovens they use are much stronger but this one came so surprisingly close in taste that I was surprised. Your Grandma’s pizza sounds like it was delicious.

  19. Now I’m in the mood for Pizza..there goes my weight loss goals for this week. 😃 This week I’m listening to American Gods by Neil Gaiman. (Audio book)
MLK is right, only love could eradicate hate. When one witnesses people celebrating division and violence, one can only expect things to grow worse. We need to choose love.

    1. Haha this is your goal to try making your own pizza, it’s not too unhealthy if you make a salad with it. Don’t eat it with Takis like I did lol 😂
Neil Gaiman is a brilliant writer, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.
Absolutely, loving one another is important. But people have become so unempathetic and hateful these days. It breaks my heart.

      1. Yeah.. it depresses me. Makes wonder if I’ve just grown soft as in getting older. I will enjoy Gaiman. I enjoyed the series, so thought I’d get the book.
And I will attempt making my own pizza. ☺️

        1. Let me know how the pizza turns out 🍕

          1. I will. 👏👏

  20. That pizza looks fantastic ❤️ Martin Luther King’s quote is so relevant today.

    1. Thanks so much ❤️ Yes, I think the quote is one we need to remember in modern times too.

  21. That pizza looks delicious!! Brilliant.
Love that quote. In these times of hate and division drummed up by populists like Trump it is so apt.
I’m listening to Pink Floyd this week!

    1. Thanks so much!

So much hate everywhere, I wish more people would learn to be empathetic and loving instead.

      Nice, I love Pink Floyd!

  22. oohhh I can smell the pizza 😂 It loooks sososo goood. I used to make pizza with my mom when i was younger (still do some special times hehe) this brought back those memories. Great post and take care!💕

    1. The smell was so good, my mouth was watering the entire time it was baking 😅 Aw, that’s so nice. What a fun way to spend time with your mom. Thank you and take care too! ☺️

  23. When you are the only available prey near a wild hungry lion, you might be angry that you didn’t bring a gun, and that you joined a group who told you to go alone because prayer is sufficient. When a dictator kills a few million people, it doesn’t seem like the appropriate time to study his childhood traumas. When a 2-year-old child is about to run into highway traffic, anger works best and quickest; the love and kisses that come after can not be applied if his body is crushed by a heavy truck in the road and is so badly mangled that he can not be identified. The truck driver will come home in the darkness to his wife in the darkness and they will cry in darkness. All because she failed to be angry enough to scream “Stop!”

Pizza is love baked and risen with sauciness

    1. I think context is key when it comes to hate. Or pretty much any other emotions. Hate, like all negative emotions is necessary and that’s why humans have evolved to have it. However, when hate is used as a manipulation tactic alongside fear mongering in those that lack empathy or rational thinking, it can cause a lot of damage.

Thanks, pizza was delicious. We don’t get good vegan pizza in my area so I decided to make it myself and was glad I did.

  24. Congrats on the pizza, looks delish.

    1. Thanks so much, this was my first time making pizza so I’m glad it turned out as well as it did. I was scared since vegan versions don’t always turn out good but this one did.

  25. A very important message in this quote. Thanks for sharing. The pizza looks amazing.

    1. Absolutely, it’s a quote that we need to remember in these times when there is so much hate in the world. Thanks, the pizza turned out so much better than I expected.

  26. Yoo that 🍕 looks so natural. I’ve never made one, but am a good cook hope lol hope I’ll give it a try someday!

About Martin Luther King Jr…he was so on point and I admire his determination as freedom fighters of black Americans…the one that stood out was when he said if am not exactly quoting the right words…”one day people will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character”

    1. Thanks so much. I would so recommend this recipe, it’s incredibly easy. It only took a few minutes to mix the ingredients and let the dough rise. And the rest of the toppings and pizza sauce only took about an hour.

That’s another one of his quotes I love. He was so on point. We should not be judging anyone for anything they can’t control like the colour of their skin. Instead let’s focus on their their character and actions.

      1. I’ll give it a try but with a tutorial alongside, lol

Yes, we are all capable of extraordinary things despite age, race, religion or backgrounds…and sadly racism still persist!

        1. It’s so crazy that racism seems to be getting worse in this day and age.

          1. It’s because humanity is loosing touch and connection, it’s insane actually, but am sure lots of individuals are waking up and stopping the madness

  27. MLK’s quote in spot on! The pizza looks delicious and now I am hungry for pizza! 😋

    1. Thanks so much! Haha this is your sign to make some pizza 🍕

  28. I love the sentiment behind the Martin Luther King Jr. quote you shared. Choosing love over hate is such a powerful message that resonates deeply, especially in today’s world. Your homemade vegan pizza looks amazing! It’s fantastic that it turned out so well on your first try. Making pizza from scratch is such a fun and rewarding experience. Keep spreading love through your delicious creations and inspiring blog posts! 🍕💖

    1. Thanks so much. Yes, his words still ring true. And absolutely, the pizza was so fun to make 😊

  29. That’s really good for your first pizza! That’s better than I make and I’ve done it a few times haha. I like your “What I’m Listening To” section and may steal it in the future. 😁

    1. Thank you! Yeah, it was surprisingly good for my first try 🍕 Oh definitely do that, I always enjoy reading about what music others are listing to. That’s how I find some of the songs I listen to 😅

  30. This is so true! It reminds me of the time in the Bible where the Pharisees were convinced that Jesus was trying to cast out demons by the power of demons. What? Makes absolutely no sense as Jesus told them!

The pizza looks amazing! I’m so hungry now!

    1. That’s exactly what it’s like. Hate won’t get rid of hate. You need love for that.

Thank you! This is your sign to get some pizza!

      1. Ooh, yum!!!! 😋

  31. Congratulations on the pizza. And you had an audience right there for (positive) feedback. I appreciation the quotation. Light overwhelms darkness. Love casts out hate. I am reminded that these four are not equal quantities vying for victory. Light and love are not only better, they are more. As far as winning goes, they win by existing. And we win through our mere affiliation with them. (Off my soapbox now.)

    1. Thanks so much. Yes, it was lucky they chose to come over on the same day I made pizza.
You’re absolutely right. Love and light are so much more.

  32. The pizza looks delicious! As for the quote, it’s a nice thought, but I just don’t see it happening. I believe love CAN drive away the darkness, but if the other person is not receptive, all the love in the world will not change it.

    1. Thank you! Unfortunately, I know exactly what you mean. It’s a two way street when it comes to love.

  33. Love the quote, Pooja. And your pizzas look terrific. Ironically, I made homemade pizza today. Hugs to you.

    1. Thank you so much. Oh nice, I guess we had the same craving haha. Hugs.

  34. Hi Pooj! I’m sorry that it’s been a while since I was able to read your blog! I love the Martin Luther King Jr. quote and completely agree about it in relation to the state of the world. Too much hate, which brings us nothing. Love brings so much, as does helping others, a topic I explored today on my blog.

Your vegan pizza looks truly amazing. I haven’t done any vegan cooking to speak of, and it looks like it would have been a lot of work. Kind of an act of love making it and sharing it with your family.

Thank you for sharing the Smiths’ song – it’s a new one for me. It is a fabulous song choice to accompany the quote. Great post!

    1. Hey, nice to see you back here again! Absolutely, love is so vital but we seem to have forgotten that.

Thanks so much. It was a lot of work but still less than I expected. It was pretty fun to make.

Oh nice, I introduced you to a song for a change haha 😅

      1. It’s nice to be back, thank you. Haha yes, you’re exposing me to new music! 😊

  35. Hey Pooja!

Def feeling the MLK quote this week here in the US with all the *gestures broadly to our presidential race* happening right now.

Fun plans for the week include showing a visiting friend around my city and drinks with coworkers on Friday.

And congrats on the pizza. It looks good!

    1. Hey! Yeah, I know you guys have a lot going on in the US right now. Fingers crossed things go well.

Ooh fun, that sounds like a good week.

      Thanks!

  36. Your pizza looks delicious, especially knowing it has vegan cheese. That can be hit or miss but more options are coming available, so that’s good. 👍🏻

    1. Thanks so much! Absolutely, it’s tricky with vegan options but I’m glad everything worked out for this one.

  37. Excellent Quote👍👍👍 So Yummy Pizza

    1. Thank you so much ☺

  38. I like the quote. And you’re right, there is so much hate in the world. And what is pathetic is that a lot of this hate is started because of something stupid. For example, the presidential election in my country right now to me is pathetic. This is why I don’t like to listen to politics. There is name calling and personality bashing just as if they are young children. Sad, very sad.

    1. Thanks so much. Absolutely, it’s so sad. There is just so much hate.

  39. Making homemade pizza sounds like a lot of fun! I’m glad yours was a big hit with all of the family! Xo

    1. It was delicious, so surprised it turned out so well!

    1. This is the recipe I used for the base: https://youtu.be/Eim2GpHNQDg
