Haunted By Your Absence

Haunted by your absence

Even in your presence

Once upon a time

I called you mine

Now we just go through the motions

Long gone are the emotions

The fire burning inside

Slowly it faded and died

You conquered my heart

But you tore it apart

It was just a game for you

My revenge shall soon ensue

Haunted By Your Absence

About “Haunted By Your Absence”:

This poem is a response to fellow blogger, Kevin’s, No Theme Thursday (Friday?) prompt post for this week. He has awesome NTT prompts every week, do check out his blog for more.

I was going through this weeks images and this one just stood out to me for some reason. Originally, it looked like romantic. But as I looked at it closer, I saw a sort of sadness in her eyes and a distant indifference in his. Maybe I’m overthinking it, I probably am because that’s sort of my superpower. But that’s what I saw.

For the last few weeks the lines “Haunted by your absence, Even in your presence” have been stuck in my head and when I saw this picture I just thought they went perfectly with it. The rest of it came to me pretty quickly too after looking at the picture. Love when that happens for a change lol.

  11. I think the tone of your poem matches the look in their eyes, a serious scene that conveys some tension, yes. You’ve set it up for a second! ✍🏼

    1. Thanks so much. Yeah, they both look so deep in thought. Haha, perhaps the next poem will be the second part of it 😉

  14. Hehe Indeed Love Will Come to
    Be A Battlefield Dear Pooja

    Or Just What one May
    Count on All ACross

    The Lifespan

    And Never

    Question the
    Reality oF it Yet

    That’s Only In Disney
    Movies that Come True

    Or Other Miracles and
    Magic of Life That Fool

    Nightmares
    of Before

    Other than
    that there’s
    No Room For
    Revenge in Love That’s True

    And A Thousand Other Definitions
    That

    Don’t Last

    Hehe Or Even
    Become Nightmares
    Manufactured of Torture Forever

    Yet Nah
    Voodoo
    Doesn’t Work
    Unless Ya Believe in It

    Nor
    Does Love

    Twisting the
    Knife at the
    End of Love
    That Turns Into Hate

A Common Play Indeed With SMiLes..:)

    1. Haha yes that’s true, those little love stories are only there on Disney. Sure, people find love but it’s much more complicated. Thanks so much.

      1. Yes Dear Pooja
        Love A Play
        Of Life

        Like
        No Other

        Winding The
        Halls Of Love’s

        Sanity😱🌈

  15. Ooh.. didn’t see that coming. The image lent itself to either option though. I like the path you took 😂. Revenge is so much more fun. Wonderful poem, Pooja G. 💜

  24. This poem resonates with anyone who has experienced the complexities of love and heartbreak. The poignant imagery and relatable emotions draw the reader into a world of lost affection and the lingering pain of betrayal. The balance between nostalgia and the desire for revenge creates a compelling narrative that leaves a lasting impression. The use of rhyme and rhythm enhances the emotional weight, making the poem not only impactful but also beautifully crafted. It captures the essence of love’s fragility and the bittersweet nature of past relationships with striking clarity.

    1. Thank you so much. I’m so glad you felt so strongly about the poem and understood my thoughts behind writing it.

      1. You’re welcome ☺️

    1. Thank you so much ☺️

      1. your welcome 🙂

  27. Haunted by absence even before it happens, as if rehearsing absense while the relationshp is still present. But when the end happens, it will be final, won’t it, since it will be followed by revenge. An exercise in terminating things. Thoughtful, creative work, Pooja!

    1. Thank you so much! Yeah, I think when humans are neglected enough they may turn vengeful. And then things can be a little too final.

  28. “My revenge shall soon ensue”…oops…the basement again ? 😋

    beautifully captured, Pooja…🤍

    1. Maybe the attic this time 🤔😅 Thank you ☺️

      1. lol, sounds good , Pooja…😋

    1. Lollll 😅

  33. So beautiful poem overthinking Pooja .. many will relate to overthinking quality also

    1. Thanks so much, yes I think many of us tend to overthink things.

  34. I’ve known what it means to be haunted by your absence even in your presence, but it had to do with Alzheimer’s. Good poem, Pooja. Have an outstanding week.

    1. Yeah, I think things like Alzheimer’s and dementia do that too. The person is still there physically but not mentally. Thank you and have a lovely rest of your week too.

  35. Very good poem Pooj.

    1. Thanks so much.

      1. It’s my pleasure.

  36. Well done, Pooja! I love your poem and it ties in with the image perfectly! Is a Part 2 coming about your revenge? 🙂

  38. Haunted by your absence, Even in your presence. Truly an amazing line. It is a poem in itself! Nice work Pooja!

    1. Thank you so much, so glad you enjoyed it!

  39. Liked your poem very much. The phrase stuck in your head is beautiful, yet sad too and painful. We all long for the connection we so seldom find. We cannot connect to others more than we connect within ourselves I guess. A Divine gift?

    1. Thanks so much. That’s so true, I think we all want deeper connections but they are hard to find.

  40. Agree, “Haunted by your absence, Even in your presence” is a blessing/curse kinda thing. Frankie Vallee had a song once that had

    So close
So close and yet so far

Always struck me as so sad. Great poem, Pooja! 😎❤️

    1. Thanks so much! Yeah, I think it’s a bittersweet thing.

  41. Great Poem, imagination at its peak, Superb Pooja👏👏👏

    1. Thank you so much 😊

  42. You are welcome
