John Wooden Quote #2

Quote Of The Day

John Wooden Quote:

John Wooden Quote

What’s Up With Pooj?

I love this John Wooden quote because it sums up my life really perfectly. At least of late. I’ve really been struggling with balancing work and writing. Of course, I do immensely enjoy both but I have had to cut back on writing a little recently so that I can focus on work. But starting last week, I created a new schedule which would help me balance things out more and I am happy to report that I have got so much editing done for my next book. I mean, I hate it because I hate editing but it’s a necessary evil and I want to get it over with so I can get feedback once more and then it’ll be back to editing. It’s a vicious cycle but such is the life of a writer. It’s a gift and a curse.

In other news, my maternal grandmother is living with us for a few days. It’s nice to have her around since my paternal grandmother is no longer with us. It’s been interesting chatting with her, I always forget how chatty older generations are.

  1. It’s a brilliant quote, Pooja. I see people working their lives away, not getting enough away time to actually enjoy life. That’s very sad…

    1. Glad you enjoyed the quote. Yeah, almost everyone these days puts so much time into working but that’s really the only way to survive with the high prices.

      1. Government needs to reduce inflation. This is ridiculous, people must choose between food, paying bills or getting medication. So very wrong.

        1. Honestly, people can’t even afford three meals a day these days.

          1. And, all because of greedy politicians and government. Who do these people think they are! You can’t take your money and “power” when you pass on…

            1. Exactly, in the end all that money and power isn’t going to come with you. And making others miserable for your own greed is pathetic.

              1. 100% true Pooja.

  2. I like that quote too. You have to have a balance and if you don’t have a balance you are not likely to be productive at work.

    1. Absolutely, it’s all about balance. Otherwise you’ll end up burnt out.

  3. I like that quote. I’ve attempted, to varying degrees of success, to fuse “making a living” and “making a life”. But it’s kind of like editing. Lol! Let’s see, what have I been listening to. A dangerous question for me. Gesualdo-Tenebrae by the Hilliard Ensemble. Blood Incantation – Absolute Elsewhere, Maria Dolores Pradera – Los Gemelos, & Büşra Kayıkçı’s album Places. Just to mention a few. Take care!

    1. Glad you enjoyed the quote. Yeah, it’s so hard finding the perfect balance between the two. Oh wow, those are unique artists I hadn’t heard of them before. Take care too!

  4. I love the quote, making a life is more important of course. I would love to chat with my grandmother, all of them have passed. I think I had at least four of them, it’s a bit complicated lol but they are all gone. That generation is mostly gone by now if not in body definitely in spirit.
I finished The Things They Carried which is one of the heaviest books I have read. Definitely worth it though…

    1. Glad you enjoyed the quote. Yeah, unfortunately those older generations are gone now. I’ve heard a lot about that book, it definitely sounds like a heavy read but a great book nonetheless. A lot of booktokers are giving it very positive reviews.

  5. Love that you are trying to balance things. When we work a job that demands so much of our time, and of us, it’s very hard to make time for what we love and not just sleep 😆 glad you’ve made a schedule to work in the things you enjoy doing 😊

    1. Thanks so much. Lol so true, when I was working the hardest all I did other than work was sleep and eat 😭

  6. That is a profound thought. Thanks for sharing it. 🙂

    1. Glad you enjoyed the quote 🙂

  7. This is a great quote, Pooja. In the states we stress work/life balance but it is rarely applied.

    1. Glad you enjoyed the quote. Yes, I think it’s particularly difficult there since people need to work really hard just to afford basic things in some areas.

  8. That is a very true quote, Pooja. 💐

    1. Really glad you enjoyed the quote 😊

  9. “Working” is a man constructed thing, and it’s not a bad thing, but if we think it’s what creates our identity, then it becomes a poison in disguise. Keep chatting with your maternal grandma she wants it the most as people get older, the lonelier they become. Best wishes in your editing.

    1. Yes, agreed. It can be a good thing as long as it doesn’t suck the happiness out of us.
True, I think the older generations have a lot of wisdom to share but no one to listen so they become lonely. I think she enjoys talking to us and we enjoy listening.

      1. Keep that exchange going…

  10. A good way to distinguish between the two priorities of life. I’m glad you’ve rescheduled your time so that you can edit your book too.

    1. Thanks so much. Yes, it’s all about balancing the two.

      1. Absolutely right 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

  11. Nice to hear that you get to spend some time with your Grandmother.

    1. Thanks, yeah it’s been really nice. She’ll still be here for more than a week which is nice.

  12. That’s a beautiful quote indeed. At times, it’s difficult to strike a balance. Editing is a necessary evil indeed. I hope your new schedule works out. It’s great that you’re getting to spend time with your grandmother. Take care, Pooja

    1. Glad you enjoyed the quote. Yes, balancing the two is so difficult but has to be done for our sanity lol. Thanks so much 😊

      1. Ohh yes. Yes it’s a balancing act indeed. But very much needed for our sanity. You’re most welcome 😊

  13. Nice 🙏🌹

    Aum Shanti

    1. Thanks 🙏😊

    1. So glad you enjoyed it.

  16. Golly… The old folks can chat your socks off if you give em a chance..but it’s good for us writers. I’m glad you got your rhythm back. Last week I did nada on the writing front until.the last day of the week..it’s been tough at work as well.
Ive been listening to an audio book recommended by Edward Ortiz, so my music time has finished. Great quote my Wooden.
Enjoy the time with your Grandma, Pooja G. These moments are precious. 🤗

    1. Oh absolutely, older folks chat nonstop but in a way it’s nice because they know so much more than we do. Hopefully you can do some writing this week.
      Thanks, enjoy the audiobook 😊🤗

  17. Love the quote. I was lucky I managed to get a career that I loved so that it wasn’t work, it was life. Teaching is an honour. Now writing is a joy. I used to hate editing but now I enjoy that too. The trouble is that you cannot edit your own work.
I am setting up my own publishing house. Want in Pooj?

    1. Glad you enjoyed the quote. That’s really lucky, you got to do a lot of things you love and still continue to do what you love.
      Oh absolutely I’m in!

    1. Glad you enjoyed the quote.

      1. Makes total sense.

        1. It sure does, life is all about balance.

          1. Precisely. Wishing you a nice day.

              1. Thank you very much 🙏

                1. You’re very welcome ☺️

    1. I remember him from when I went through my obsessed with wrestling phase 😅

      1. you and jackie. wrestling is fake. a trump sport.

        1. Yup and now you’re stuck with the reality tv star (I use the word star loosely) for a few more years.

          1. the number 25 mean anything to you? or next time do not miss!

            1. Lol that’s harsh 😅

              1. so s he and i m sick of him. by any means necessary dearest.

  19. I never thought about it but older generations are way more talkative. If I had my way, I’d say maybe 3 words a week. 😆

    1. I’m the same, I’m pretty introverted so I don’t say much but the older generations are so much more extroverted. My grandmother talks nonstop 😅

  20. That is a great quote, Pooja! Before I retired I put in way too many hours that weren’t appreciated. Though it was a decent income, I feel I paid my dues and glad I am no longer in the corporate world.

    1. Glad you enjoyed the quote. Yeah, I think so many people feel that way. But glad you’re done with that now and can enjoy your time.

      1. Thank you, Pooja. Me too! 😊

  21. Nice that you are appreciating the time with your grandmother. Precious indeed! Good luck with your new plan for balance. <3

    1. It is, I don’t get to spend much time with her so it’s nice when she visits. Thanks!

  22. Hi Pooja. That is a great quote, and it is so relatable. I think most of us are stuck in this loop and are trying to find the perfect balance between work and life. Hope you enjoy your time with your grandmother.

    1. So glad you enjoyed the quote. Yes, I think sometimes we have no choice but to focus on work and by the time we make enough to retire it’s too late. Thanks so much.

  23. Listening to grandparents is something we will treasure in the future is not now

    1. Yes, that’s so true.

  24. Quotes like this one make me wonder: Why aren’t people listening?? the wisdome is out there but we would rather work ourselves into the grave, chasing a happiness, which lives in the opposite direction. 🤣😎🙃

    1. It’s true, people work so hard only to regret it in the end. Work isn’t everything and we need to decanter it.

  25. Such a relevant quote, Pooja <3 and I laughed about the older generations being chatty (hahaha) !!! I miss those chats !!! One-word mumbles are the worst (LOLOL) ~ 🙂 or K as an actual response (UGH) !!! 😉 Hi to the family ~ <3

    1. Glad you enjoyed the post! True, it’s so nice to chat with people that want to chat. Most people these days just use one or two word answers 😅

  26. Work and writing is a constant balance, especially when you have demanding clients.😉. Funny you should ask. i’m Love the 6 word quote.

    1. Haha yes but my clients are the best, I wouldn’t trade them in for anything ❤️

      1. they sure are.. lol 😂 You best not❣️

  27. I like the quote. Often we do allow ourselves to get dragged into the vortex of work to the exception of most everything else. Way to go, resetting your schedule. I’ve got a fair bit of volunteer work this week but it’s going better than I anticipated.

This week I’ve really been enjoying the song “Closer Together” by the Canadian band The Box. It’s a joyful, danceable song.

    1. Yes, I think sometimes we end up allowing work to take up too much time. I wanted to make sure I was making time for other things too.

A very fun song, glad you’re enjoying it.

      1. Yup, balancing work and life is important, says one who often didn’t do well on that!

        1. Lol to be fair it’s hard to find that balance sometimes.

          1. Truly. We aren’t always the ones controlling our time, unfortunately. 😅

  28. So true…so many people devote their lives to their careers they have no life outside of work. Some when they finally retire, they die.

    1. Exactly, it’s so sad.

  29. two years ago I had 2 coworkers my age die suddenly and unexpectedly. I work to pay my bills, but I relax much more.

    1. That is so sad. Yeah, I think that’s what work should be. It shouldn’t take over your whole life.

  30. Life of a writer is so darn hard! So important to find a good balance. Wishing you a long wonderful life.

    1. Thanks! Yeah it’s hard because it’s so difficult to find the time to actually write 😭
