How The Years Fly By

My mum was doing some unpacking the other day and found some old photos of us. One of them was me ready for my high school prom. I can’t believe it’s been more than a decade since then. How the years fly by, am I right? I thought it would be fun to share it here. Just because of the shock factor lol. I look so different now than I did back then, if I didn’t know it was me I may not have recognised myself:

How The Years Fly By

I had the typical millennial side part that was all the rage back then lol. And of course I wore all black, I still do that quite often. It’s my go-to since it always looks cute. I miss how skinny I was back then, especially my arms but it doesn’t matter because I also love how I look now. Fun fact, my mum actually made me this dress from scratch. She’s really talented at stuff like that.

Here are some newer pictures, I laughed so hard as I compared them with this older one:

This is at NYE, sorry it’s so zoomed in but I had to crop everyone else out lol:

How The Years Fly By
Random coincidence, I’m wearing the same bracelet in this image that I was wearing in my prom photo

Thankfully, I’ve gotten much better at makeup over the years and grew into my features a lot more. I’m so glad I didn’t get lip filler like I so badly wanted to back then. Let this be a lesson not to get work done when you’re younger, your face changes drastically as you age.

What was your prom like? Do you ever feel like the years just fly by? Let me know in the comments below or simply stop by and say hi!

  1. Awww this is so cute! I love your prom dress, and your side part 😆 I was a big fan of the side part too. I wore black to my prom as well 💕 Beautiful then and beautiful now! 😊

    1. Thank you so much! Lol yes side parts are the best 😅 Thanks so much 💕

  2. Still lookin good 🙂

    1. Thank you so much 🙂

  3. I like looking at the old pics, I looked at one today , the funniest thing about them is real bad hairstyles. For real, bad haircuts were in style or something.
I also notice how much skinnier we were back in Ukraine, almost dangerously so LoL

    1. Yes, I feel that too. When I look at pictures of myself back in the day I have the worst hairstyles lol. Glad you’re a healthy weight now, being too skinny can really mess up your health.

      1. lol if you ask my sister, she will tell you i am obese lol

        1. What that’s crazy, omg.

  4. Maturity becomes you, Pooja! 🙂

    1. Thank you! 🙂

  5. Pooja, the pixie haircut on you, honey is PIXIEing! Okay! I love it!

And my aunt actually made my prom dress. It was red and silver with a sheer, red shawl. I loved it! God, that was lifetimes ago. 😆🤣😂

    1. Thank you! I am actually loving the short hair- so much less of a hassle 😅

Omg so sweet, I’m sure you looked great in it 😍

      1. You’re most welcome! Oh, I loved my short cut for years. I understand. Believe me, I do. Enjoy it!

        1. Thanks, will do haha!

  6. You’re adorable at every stage and age Pooja:)

    1. Aw thank you so much ☺️

  7. I love your dress and the way you look at Prom, Pooja! Your face has changed, so has mine at my age. 😂 You look so beautiful in the last photo, wow! 💕

    1. Thank you! Yes, our bodies are constantly changing. Aw, you’re always so sweet 🥰

      1. Thanks Pooja. Hugs! ❤️☺️💕

        1. Hugs 🤗🥰

  8. My prom? Oh man, fohgetaboutit, it’s worth a post…truly a cringe-worthy smoking crater 😂😉

    Do the years fly by? Oh man, yes, it’s a kaleidoscope of rushing images, snatches of conversations, faces, smells, mountaintops and valleys. And the older you get, the faster it goes. One of my fav artists, Jackson Browne expressed it thusly;

    I’ve been aware
    Of the time going by
    They say The End—
It’s the wink of an eye

Happy new year, my friend… love the pix, both old and new…hope 2025 is a great year for you 😎🙏❤️

    1. Lol now I want to know about your prom. Oh yes, time flies by which is why we have to do what we want while we can/ Happy New Year and thank you ☺️❤️

  9. Love the grad photo and your latest. Like a fine wine you just keep getting better with age. I wish I could be around to see your photo when you are one hundred 🙂 .

    1. Thank you so much, maybe I need to use AI and share what I would look like at 100 lol.

      1. I was thinking of trying that for my own picture but I was afraid it would just show a skeleton, lol.

        1. Ahaha I’m sure that won’t be the case.

  10. Awww, lovely photos! I just realized my prom was like 8 years ago. :,) A lot has changed since then. You’re so pretty Pooja 🥰 Loving this new look on you !! ❤️

    1. Thank you! Yeah time flies by. Aw you’re too sweet ❤️

  14. You looked great then and you look great now. Your style of dressing has definitely changed but it was supposed to. I never knew how to pose for pictures when I was younger. Your picture is way better than mine 😀

    1. Thank you so much. Yes, a lot has changed since then but thankfully for the better lol. I was awful at posing back then too but Instagram had just started so I had learnt a few good poses before prom haha.

      1. Very Welcome
        With SMiles☺️🙌

  16. My, my .. how you have blossomed. You look great with tye short hair, Pooja.
I have to agree I like wearing dark colors as well. Black is my go to. I skipped high school prom to go play ball. Hated crowds then, still hate crowds now. Lol
And I remember getting a fresh cut every weekend. Had the Hightop refreshed weekly. 🤣

    1. Thanks so much, I am loving my short hair it takes like a minute to style now lol.

Omg yes black clothes always look classy. Haha I need to hear more about teenage you we were so silly back then 😅

      1. Lol… I had my moments of madness..and vanity.
But you do look really good with this look 😊

        1. Aw thanks ☺️

    2. You still have the big beautiful brown eyes, so I could tell it was you Pooj. And it is good that you went to your prom. I actually hated school and didn’t care to do any extra things pertaining to school, so I never went. As for your dress, it was very nice. Your mom is very talented.

      1. Thank you so much. I didn’t hate school but I really didn’t like it either. But I was glad I went to prom with my friends, we had a good time. Yes, my mum is really great at stitching.

  17. That short hair suits you Pooj.
We have a new beauty parlour open in town. I went in for an estimate.

    1. Thank you. Omg the salons are so expensive I just cut my own hair.

  18. Omg girlllll!! I rmr your prom dress and how happy you were your mum made it and you wanted lip fillers so badly but we all said no. I absolutely love your features now, I mean look at the eyebrows, what was that??😂 And pls your figure is to die for right now. But you were always super cute and still are 😘

    1. Yesss I loved that dress and I remember your dress you looked so pretty! Lol I was obsessed with lip filler remember? 😅 So glad you guys talked me out of it 😩 Soooo glad I stopped making my eyebrows so thin. Aw thank you boo ❤️

  19. Lovely photos of you Pooja.

    1. Thanks so much.

      1. You’re welcome ☺️

  20. I love your prom dress and the side part. It’s amazing how we change as we get older. I have a portfolio of photos from my modeling days! I would like to scan them but they are too large for my scanner. You would get a chuckle looking at the fashions. ❣️

    1. Thank you, yes so much changes the older we get. Ooh modelling, that’s so cool. I need to see those pictures now haha 😜💕

      1. Some of them are larger than 8×10 and too big for my scanner. The fashions are mostly the sixties and I frequently wore wigs. I lived in Orlando, Fl, and there were a lot of gigs because of Disney World. I loved it!

        1. Ooh that’s so interesting, sounds like a lot of fun! You should at least take pictures of them on your phone just for the sake of keeping them safe.

          1. It was fun, Pooja! I’ll try taking pictures of them with my phone. 😊

  21. I can only imagine how much of a beautiful memory it was for your mum to see you in that old prom dress she made for you again. FROM SCRATCH mind you! That’s really amazing!

You can never go wrong with black can you? Just give me my blacks, whites, and browns, and I’m all set. I’m loving your earrings in photo 3 too! 😍

    1. Thank you, yes it was so special for us both!

Absolutely, black clothing always looks classy and cute. Aw thanks, I have 6 piercings altogether and love them. The earrings are all presents from my parents 😊

  22. what prom?
    what deep state?
    oh yeah
    nice pics

    1. Lol thanks.

  23. Look at beautiful you! Love reading that your mom made your beautiful dress from scratch. 💕 It is a special bond. Just shipped Sammi ones that I made her. Hard let let go, but I want her to have them. I have the wonderful memories. Your short hair style reveals more of your natural beauty and your sophisticated side. 💎👍🏻

    1. Thank you! Yes, it’s such a special bond and no matter what we have those memories.
And with the short hair it only takes me a minute to style lol 😜

      1. Bonus to your beautiful style! 😅 You’re very welcome. 🧵💕

  24. Lovely photos, Pooja! We do look different as we grow out of teenage.

    1. Thank you! Yes, our features change so much as adults.

      1. You are welcome.

  25. Always fun to see old photos and to see how much we change as we get older. Happy 2025!

    1. Thank you, yes it’s interesting to think about how much we’ve changed. Happy 2025!

  26. fun to see the comparisons.

as to prom, I did not go to my senior prom. the whole shy/nerdy thing was in full gear back then. Not that it’s diminished much over the past 50 years 🙂

    1. Thank you. Oh yes, very much still a thing but now I think people want to be nerdy 🙂

      1. I didn’t have much of a choice 🙂

Your mom made that dress? Wow, it’s so nice, and you were stylish even then. Quite the transformation you’ve gone through, both presentations beautiful, in very different ways. I’m terrible at make-up… have been doing it the same way for 30 years except for adding some sprays and highlighting. 😀

    1. Yes she did and I loved it! Aw thanks so much. Haha sometimes it’s hard to change what we’re used to when it comes to makeup.

  28. Hi there! It’s always fun looking at old photos and recalling the memories attached to them. You have changed a lot from your prom night! it is so great that you have a healthy relationship with your body. That’s so important. It is a source of heartache for a lot of people due to societal pressures to look certain ways.

    1. Yes, it really is. True, it’s also nice to think of how far I’ve come with loving my body since I hated it back then.

      1. Yes, that’s awesome… great work!

          1. You’re welcome!

  29. You were so cute and you have aged well too!

    1. Thanks so much!

  30. I actually wrote a poem about my prom experience. She had sleepy eyes, beauty and brains, too. Was in year 8 while I was a junior. Our senior prom was cancelled, so I didn’t get my chance.

    1. That’s really interesting, I’ll check it out.

  31. Beautiful photos, then and now, Pooja! The dress your mom made was stunning! 💞

    1. Thanks so much, yes it’s such a pretty dress I still have it 😊

  32. You are the same beauty, Pooja. I love your prom dress. Your mom did a fabulous job.

    1. Thanks so much, yes she did.

  33. The photographs are enjoyable. Your mom did an impressive job with the dress. I’m glad you didn’t have work done on yourself. I think you say it well when you say you grew into your features. Could be why I often find people looking more interesting-looking when older. My proms were in the days of crushed-velvet jackets and ruffled shirts, both of which I wore.

    1. Thanks so much. Yes I think most of us grow into our features as we get older. Ruffles shirts and crushed velvet jackets are amazing. I’m pretty sure people still wear the ruffle shirts so I guess they’re making a comeback.

  34. You lok very cute. You also look to be standing at a fifteen degree angle. Photography oralcohol? The world may never know 🤣😎🙃

    1. Thanks so much. Lol I was actually floating 😅

  35. I love this post—such an organic feel. The past to the present.

    1. Thanks so much.

  36. Wonderful ♥️

    1. Thanks ☺

  37. I actually see lot’s of resemblance from then and now.. LOVE the dress you’re rocking by your talented mom! Kudos to her. Long hair, short hair and perfect lips and always beautiful. That God you didn’t do anything to them! You look great either way. 💓 So many memories of prom all with my hubby now. I dyed his glove green ot match my dress.. how lame was that! hahahaha lol. 😂

    1. Aw thanks so much! Yesss I’m so grateful I never got anything done to my face, it was a bad idea to begin with.
That’s actually so cute, I’m sure you two had the best time at prom! 💕

      1. You’re so very welcome. Oh the things we grow out of and indeed why fix what’s not broken. It doesn’t get better than the Fairmont Hotel in S.F. xo 😘

        1. Haha ain’t that the truth!

  38. You actually get better with age, Pooja. Loved the photos.

    1. Aw, thanks so much that’s very sweet of you to say.

  39. Ha…wonderful pictures and memories. Millennial fashion was something else. lol. Happy New Year to you.

    1. Happy New Year! Lol yesss millennial fashion still amuses me 😅

  40. Love this post and your short hair is bomb!!!
