Topher Wins: eBook Version Out Now
From the back cover:
Following the release of his first book, Oriental Skies: An Anthology, Wellington Ong returns with a feel-good volume. Topher Wins imparts lessons: on triumphs, language skills, and belongingness. This nonfiction title is both a memoir and an exploration of the IELTS (International English Language Testing System). A Filipino-Australian, he has dwelled in these two disparate lands. Thus, he offers a unique perspective – and a plethora of stories. Retrace his journey as a loquacious left-hander in Sydney with superb recall. Join him in encountering culture shock as a child in the Philippines. Be there as he spreads his wings while reading encyclopaedias, newspapers, magazines, and novels. Get a front row seat as he takes on the peaks and valleys of school.
While relating his experiences, Wellington incorporates the elements of the IELTS Academic. As a teenager, he sat this assessment for the first and only time. Topher Wins emphasises the need for continuous learning. This work probes into each Test component. Specifically, the author scrutinises his excellent 8.5 Band Score in Writing. He evaluates how he got an 8.5 in Reading. He then analyses his 7.5 result in Listening. Finally, Wellington deconstructs his perfect 9.0 mark in Speaking. The 8.5 (highest: 9.0) Overall Band Score per se is astounding. However, his five weeks’ notice makes it even more impressive.
He parlayed this august result into an offer at a top Australian university. Through various opportunities and coursework, he pursued his passion. Wellington recounts the characters and memories of his indelible university life. He was then awarded a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree. He maintains a website, Mot Juste, where he blogs weekly. This in-depth account includes some of his site’s finest writing. Altogether, this self-help text is a long-overdue victory for a writer who must overcome the odds. Despite the trials, foes, and uncertainties, Topher won’t be silenced. He will find a way to WIN.
