The One Where I Almost Died (And Other Creepy Occurrences)

The One Where I Almost Died (And Other Creepy Occurrences)

My family and I recently moved to a new place and although we do love it here, there have been some creepy occurrences that I thought might be interesting to share here. I don’t really believe in anything paranormal, I lean towards science. So I’m sure these occurrences have a scientific explanation I just don’t think I’m smart enough to know them. Anyway, here are some weird things that have happened including one where I almost died.

Footsteps In The Night

When we first moved in, the weirdest things would happen. We kept hearing footsteps in the middle of the night but there was no one there. And our lights would sometimes switch themselves on and off on their own. We also heard some other really random sounds coming from inside the house but never really found an explanation for them. Thankfully, that’s stopped so it may have just been the house settling.

The Cracks Begin To Form

This one was the most bizarre out of all my experiences. So, one night I sat down for dinner and was enjoying my meal when look down and my plate is literally cracked in half in the middle. If I didn’t see it with my own eyes, I wouldn’t have believed it. I don’t know how to explain this and I honestly have never heard of this happening. What could have caused the plate to randomly crack like that is beyond me.

A Shocking Experience

This has been the scariest experience so far because it’s the one where I almost died. Basically, I was getting ready to go for a shower but as soon as I switched it on sparks began to fly out of the shower head. I quickly switched it off.

When we talked to the electrician, he mentioned that I could have been electrocuted had I actually been in the shower. It ended up being an issue with the wiring but he told us that he’s never heard of something like this happening with a shower head and that I need to be very careful from now on.

This one is nothing spooky, just genuinely scary knowing I could have died. But I guess it’s not my time yet. So, like an influencer I decided to use the incident for views lol.

Hope you enjoyed these, I very much did not lol. Has anything spooky ever happened to you? Let me know in the comments below. Or simply stop by and say hi!

I recently published my first book and would be very honoured if you took a minute to check it out here.

  1. Ahhh this is so creepy 😳. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced anything paranormal before but I used to share a room with my sister because I was scared of my own shadow (not literally but you know what I mean 🤣). I would have moved out of that house quickfast! The shower incident must have been very scary 😨

    1. It’s definitely been scary, I’m like that too- I hate paranormal stuff so much and the dark freaks me out 😩

  2. It’s like living in the movie plot, could be fun I guess… I remember one spooky thing happened to me years ago, it was quite unexpectedly. We were sleeping peacefully when in the middle of the night the picture frame fell out on our bed. It was super random and scary. Another spooky thing happened to us when we still lived in Kyiv, we didn’t have a screen on the kitchen window, our apartment was close to the zoo. In the middle of a hot summer night a bat flew in the kitchen, it was so so strange, it couldn’t get out and was scared of us terribly. So we closed the door to the kitchen and left the window wide open, fortunately it found the way out and was gone by the time we woke up in the morning.

    1. Omg that’s crazy, bats are so scary. And the frame thing would have been enough for me to exorcise the house lol.

      1. We learned our lesson, electricity is way more dangerous in my opinion. I’m glad you survived

        1. I’m glad too lol.

  3. Wow Pooja! I’m so glad that you are okay, I have never heard of sparks coming out of a shower head. Perhaps the family should move again? When I was a kid around 8 years young, I was walking down the hall away from my bedroom and heard the handles on the chest of drawers start making a dinging sound. The handles were being lifted up and let go so they would make a sound. Very creepy!

    1. Omg that’s so creepy, woah I wonder how the handles were moving on their own!

      1. Ghosts! Best guess. I ran upstairs so fast! 😂

        1. I would have run too lol! 😭

          1. 😂💀💀

  4. Glad it wasn’t your time yet Pooja and the cracked plate is something I can relate to when about 35 years ago, we heard an explosion in the kitchen and opening the cupboards to try to see where it came from, I found at least 6 glass plates just pulverized into, tiny shards, that looked like fine colored sand…What could made 6 plates explode inside a cupboard? We never found any satisfactory scientific reasons for that to happen. I really enjoyed your post…and hope all has settled down now:)

    1. Wow, that’s scary I wonder what cause the plates to explode. I mean, there must be a reason but it doesn’t sound like there can be a scientific reason for it.
Thanks, yeah so far it’s been okay now.

  5. That’s terrifying ! The whole shower shooting sparks is so scary

    1. I was so freaked out, I literally ran!

      1. That’s scary , I’m glad you’re safe though

        1. Thanks, yeah I’m glad too. We had the electrical issues fixed though so hopefully I’ll be okay now.

  6. Ah, you wouldn’t want to live anywhere I live then. Spirits follow me. Lol. Yes, I’ve had several things happen to me; a few I blogged about recently.

My dishwasher came on and ran a cycle all on its own. I never use the dishwasher. I wash all my dishes by hand.

My coffee pot came on and attempted to percolate and make coffee. There was no water in the coffeemaker and I hadn’t switched it on. I actually got tired of my living room TV coming back on after I turned it off, so I simply power it off from the surge protector that it’s plugged in to ensure it doesn’t come on by itself anymore.

There have been other incidents that have happened in the past–far too many to name. I now believe it’s my loved ones reaching out to me in some way. I’m okay with these things.

You, on the other hand, that shower incident is SERIOUS! Please be careful.

    1. I think I have the same issue because weird things always happen to me no matter where I live 😩

That’s so scary. But yeah maybe it’s just a loved one showing that they’re still watching over you.

  7. Interesting yet scary,, take care

    1. Thanks so much, yeah pretty creepy.

  8. Reading it alone felt like a horror movie. I’m glad you’re doing okay to even share your experience. Hope everything is sorted now?

    1. Yes, thankfully I’ve been okay for a while now and have no other creepy occurrences.

      1. Oh that’s great, bless you.

        1. Thank you so much 💗

  9. That was indeed creepy and the showerhead incident sounds extremely dangerous. I should say that regular voltage (110/220/360) may not be deadly to a young person with a strong heart depending on how long the shock lasts. I electrocuted myself with 360 three phase current by removing the fuse from a large laser, then holding the metallic base (ground) with one hand and sticking my finger into to where the fuse used to be. I was just curious and dumb, but I survived. The plate might be explained by uneven drying or cooling during manufacturing, and the internal microscopic crack kept growing and just happened to crack open when you were sitting next to it.

    1. Oh gosh I’m glad you’re okay, that sounds really scary. Did you mean to electrocute yourself or was it accidental?

Yeah, that could be it. Or it could be that there was a minor crack that happened when we moved which turned into a major one.

  10. These are very strange occurrences.

    1. Yes, they were very odd.

  11. 🙏🌹

  13. Every once in awhile I wake up to noises that appear to be knocking at the door or familiar voices inside the house. I check for televisions left on but assume the knocking is the furnace. Or I am actually at the end of a dream and did not hear anything in the real world.
Sparks from a showerhead is definitely scary

    1. Yeah, I feel like hearing stuff when there’s no one there is sort of common but still a little hard to explain.
It was definitely scary, just glad I wasn’t electrocuted.

  14. My comment is a bit long. I will break it into two parts.
    Part 1.
Wow, I’m glad you didn’t get electrocuted. I usually get in the shower before I turn it on. I may rethink that now, lol.
I am not a fan of stories about the paranormal. It just freaks me out too much. I will probably sleep with the covers over my head tonight.
While reading your blog, I heard a muffled thump outside my office/spare room window. It startled me and gave me the creeps.
I am reasonably certain it was snow or ice falling off the roof, or it could have been a truck on the highway outside. I did not want to look out the window to find out.

  15. Part 2.
Here’s why. My cousin told me her husband heard three loud and pronounced knocks on their storm door one dark, moonless night.
She said her husband looked outside the window and didn’t see anything, so they thought no more about it.
About ten minutes later, the knocks repeated but were louder. Again, her husband looked outside, but nothing.
Almost immediately, the knocks repeated, and it sounded like it would break the door.
Her husband opened the door, looked outside, and walked all around the house with no sign of anyone or anything.
The next day, her husband died of a massive heart attack that the autopsy found split his heart open.
Coincidence? Maybe, but since hearing that story, I will not open a door to see if there is anything outside. 😊

    1. Omg what?? That’s so scary. I would not have opened the door. It may have been a coincidence but the timing seems so suspicious. That’s so sad. And terrifying. Hope she’s doing okay though.

      1. That happened over 50 years ago and she passed away about 15 years after that. Some believed it was the grim reaper knocking on the door, lol. As a young kid I thought it was that story was terrifying too.
I realized later the thumping noise I heard last night was the siding on the house contracting because of a sudden temperature change here due to an arctic high moving in and causing a 20 degree drop in temperature in just a few hours.

        1. I’m terrified even as an adult. I don’t know why but nothing else scares me just ghosts and paranormal stuff.

Oh good, at least there was an explanation for it.

  16. Man, I kept waiting for a punchline of “and these stories will be in my book” or something to that effect.
So these were all real? That’s pretty scary about the shower one!

    1. I wish lol, unfortunately these were all real and only a handful of them. So much more has happened. Thankfully, things have settled down now though. Yes, we had to have the shower rewired because I was too scared to use it again!

  17. The footsteps were the psycho noctambulist electrician who comes in the night to wire up the shower. She also does car lights! The plate was plate tectonics. The clay for the plate was taken from two different continental shelves and they were moving apart by continental drift. There’s an explanation for everything.

    1. Oh yeah, I feel like there’s an explanation I just don’t know it lol.

  18. They are all very scary. Glad to hear things have settled. Hopefully no more strange occurrences for you.

    1. Thanks, yeah it was scary but hopefully no more weird stuff will happen. It’s been okay for the last month or so.

      1. That’s great to hear!

  19. Recently I’ve been seeing our cat who passed away two years ago out of the corner of my eye. We have another cat who looks just like her. I was working out in our basement and I saw a white fluffy cat walking to the litter box as I was finishing up. I thought it was our current cat so I thought nothing of it. Only a few minutes went by and I went up the stairs and our cat was already up there. She had never been downstairs because I would have seen her walking past me to go back up. She was also very cozy and looked like she hadn’t moved in a while.

#2 was a year ago: Our cat who had passed used to “wash her hands” after using the littler box. So she would scratch her paws on the side to get the litter off when she was done. Our house was empty, we were living elsewhere because we were going to move. I came back to the house to grab something and I heard the sound of her cleaning her paws 😭 it wasn’t even scary it was so cute I recognized it immediately!

    1. Aw omg she’s probably still around taking care of you guys and reminding you that she loved you 🥹

  20. Pooja, I don’t think I could live there, especially with the episode with the shower. A long ago, I had a friend where her washing machine would start by itself. She was freaked and found out a plane had crashed at the site where her house stands now. Other spooky things started to occur and she felt they were due to ghosts from the past.

    1. Thankfully, the creepy stuff has stopped.
Oh wow, that’s pretty scary. I’d be even more scared because of the crash happening in that area.

      1. I would be too, Pooja. It was a long time ago, and I often wonder if they moved into a different house.

        1. I hope they did, it sounds like a scary place to live.

  21. I do enjoy watching supernatural movies, and your descriptions, Pooja, could absolutely fit into a movie. SCARY. The plate cracking right in front of you is pretty unnerving! The only thing I remember is sitting watching TV and I heard a loud sound in the kitchen. I went and looked, and there was a soup can laying on the ground, still rocking a little. It was on a table, so how it fell off suddenly, I don’t know.

    1. That’s so odd, I wonder how the soup could have fallen on its own. Pretty spooky as well!

      1. 😱 thanks, Pooja.

        1. You’re most welcome, stay safe 💕

  22. Wow, I am so glad you were unharmed in that shower incident. That must have been very jarring and scary.

I lean toward the scientific, too, while still leaving room for the metaphysical (potentially). I think your plate breaking incident can be explained. Sometimes our dishes have hairline fractures in them that we can’t see, and even something that is hard like ceramic can shrink and expand, though not very much. Changes in temperature from the food, or even liquid getting in between the crack could have forced the parts of the dish apart.

I think why it stood out especially is because so much different stuff was going on. Moving into a new place is already scary. Every noise bothered me when I first moved here even though I didn’t suspect it was haunted.

I hope you’re able to get settled in soon!

    1. Thank you. Yes, it was really scary especially knowing I was seconds away from death.

Yes, I think the plate could have initially cracked when we packed it and moved it but got visibly cracked while I used it.

I’m settling in okay now, no longer having any weird experiences thankfully!

  23. Lucky you escaped being hurt and I am glad. I would check this out more carefully (consulting an expert) to avoid ever happening again.

    1. Thank you, I talked to an electrician who changed some wiring and things seem okay now. Fingers crossed nothing else is going to go wrong.

      1. Glad to hear that. 🙏🙏

  24. That’s very spooky indeed. We live in an old house (built in 1905) and there are strange sounds sometimes… it’s a little unnerving if they are unexplainable and late at night! The shower thing is next level.

    1. Yeah, old houses always have random sounds and this house is a little older too which is why I get creeped out sometimes. The shower thing was scary but thankfully fixed.

  25. I’ve never experienced anything paranormal myself. I remember a girl from the church I grew up attending once told us about this time a ghost appeared in their house. I’m not sure if she was just joking, yet it was pretty frightening.

    1. Ghost related stuff is always scary, I get scared too even if it’s something on TV or something.

      1. Yeah. Paranormal stuff is very entertaining, yet it’s also scientific and really interesting to research. My cousin’s husband actually has a degree in ghost studies.

        1. What?? I didn’t know that was a thing.

  26. Or did the spirits in your house give up on you when you insisted on ignoring them? “The house settling” is the weather balloon of mysterious noises. Since when does a “settling house” sound like footsteps? I’m not one of these cheesy TV ghost-chaser types running around with my Polaroid and my EMP recorder, but I’m not a philosophical materialist either. The world is more complex than we understand. Science embraces the spirit of inquiry. It isn’t meant as a dogma by which we control the scope of that inquiry. Just sayin’.

And that said, the plate might have already had a hairline fissure that you didn’t notice. Even without that, if it was subjected to alternating extremes of heat and cold, this could cause it to crack.

The shower thing is off the rails! I’d be afraid to shower for the rest of my life! Glad you are okay!

    1. I agree, the world is certainly more complex than we can imagine or even fathom. A few other creepy occurrences make me feel like something was lurking around here but seems to have moved on.

Yes, the plate could have a hairline fissure due to us moving them from our last place to this one.

I’m so scared to shower now even though the issue is fixed, I’m in and out in like 5 mins lol!

      1. Oh, man! I’d be terrified to shower, too! It’ll be great for your water bill! 😉

        1. Lol yes, saving tons actually 😅

  27. Sparks from the shower? Wow – that is really weird. So glad that it’s good blog fodder and not something more serious! Stay safe, Pooja!

    1. Absolutely, it was quite scary but thankfully has been fixed now!

  28. Anything for content.. lol ” So, like an influencer I decided to use the incident for views lol.”

    OMG.. sparks are scary tho!!💗

    1. Super scary but thankfully I’m alive to tell the tale! 😅

  29. I’m glad you’re alive! I’m not sure what else to say for now.

    1. Thanks, I am too lol!

  30. Because of thoughts most scary things happened in dreams according to me, sometimes repetition dreams based on scary things.

    1. True, they can manifest in our dreams sometimes.

      1. Exactly, haunting

  31. Pooja! So glad you are ok. Please be careful and do whatever you all need to do to make your personal space safe. 🕊️ My grandparents lived in a haunted house. I experienced some things, as did others.

    1. Thanks so much, we’re okay now and whatever it was seems to have moved on 💕

      1. Relieved to learn this! Thank you for letting me know and you’re very welcome. 💕

        1. Thanks for looking out for me, much appreciated 💕

          1. Of course! 💕😊🙏🏻

  32. Whew and Eeek! Pooja <3 … let's look for new abodes! The plate is a new one that I haven't heard before, and well the shower head of sparks is movie-terrifyingly scary. So, all this being said, arm yourself! Keep special jewelry on your person and nostalgic inanimate items nearby. I've lived in Hauntedville before and energy can get "cray" (lol) … you are levelheaded and scientific (Taurus), so you aren't easy to scare, "they'll" move on. Why can't we have poltergeists who do dishes or clean-up without malice? Relieved and so thankful you are alive ~ <3

    1. Definitely scary but thankfully I’m okay! I always have a bracelet on that my bestie gave me and one my mum got me, hopefully that will be enough. Omg yes, why can’t they vacuum or something lol!

  33. Definitely not the house I’d stay in for one moment. Paranormal or not the house is a disaster looking for a person to happen to.

    1. Thankfully, whatever weird energy was there seems to be gone now.

  34. You will know in time if the house is haunted and the temperament of the spirits. I lived in an older house that had a writer who died there. My whole family heard him typing in the night. I get it now because I also work nights and days.

    1. I think whatever was in the house is gone now since we haven’t had any more incidents. That’s so interesting, I guess a writers work is really never done.

  35. I have never heard of a plate cracking in the middle. This place does seem creepy but then may be it’s just an electricity wiring problem. Stay safe, Pooja.

    1. It was a bit creepy at first but it’s been a lot better now. No more weird incidents. Thanks so much.

  36. That’s scary, Pooja. I don’t believe in witchcraft, but I think it happens. I never experienced it physically, but I heard it from others. That shower shock is really spooky. Maybe it is electricity interference with the shower if it isn’t plastic. Either way, you mentioned other scenarios that add up. Of course, you have to move out if possible. Some houses have spirits, and they haunt those who move in, I have heard a ton of stories about that. Hope you stay safe.

    1. I’ve heard stories of it too. These were honestly just a few of many creepy things that happened. Thanks so much, so far no more weird incidents after the shower one.

      1. I’m glad to hear that. Hope the monsters have disappeared lol

        1. They seem to have lol.

  37. Okay… those are all very freaky incidents. Would have been bathing with a bucket outside from now on lol.
Seriously though, I’m glad you’re okay Pooja.

    1. Yup, very freaky but thankfully no more incidents this year. Thanks so much.

      1. Amen 🙏 😊

  38. The plate cracking could have been from the temperature difference….hot plate set on a cool surface, and a flaw in the plate allowed it to crack the way it did.

Thank God you weren’t already in the shower….yikes!

I do believe there is more around us than we can physically see. I’ve seen ghosts a few times, angels twice, and trust my ‘gut’ when it senses energies around me. Some things have a rational explanation, but not always.

    1. True, it could be a temperature difference or it may have had a tiny crack from before that turned into a major crack.

I sense things around me sometimes too and have had some ghost related experiences. So I definitely agree there’s more around us than we can see.

That’s so scary! Thank goodness you are okay and that you got it seen about. Really never something I’ve heard of before and eeeep.

I haven’t had too many occurrences like these, but I often think I sense/see some figure off to the corner in a space. Maybe just something weird about my eye…

    Or, is it! 🙂

    1. It was definitely scary but thankfully nothing creepy has happened recently! Some people do see things out of the corner of their eyes, some say that they are spirits. There’s like a word for those types of spirits. But you never really know what’s real and what’s not…

  40. What weird happenings, Pooja! Be careful and stay safe.

    1. Thanks so much, the good news is that they seem to have stopped now!

  41. Positive side, now you won’t have to make up scary stories, now you can just tell your own 😊.

    1. Yes, that’s true lol 😆

  42. I’m glad you’re okay, Pooja 💕.

    1. I am, thanks so much 😊

  43. OMG Pooja, this is scary and creepy. So glad you weren’t in that shower either. Stay safe my friend. 🥰🙏🏼🤗

    1. Definitely very scary, thank you 🤗💗

      1. I can’t even imagine Pooja! Take care! 🥰🙏🏼💖
