Six Word Story #219

Six Word Story:

Good vibes are all I need. ✌🏼

Six Word Story

About This Six Word Story:

This six word story was inspired by Kevin’s No Theme Thursday prompt for the week. He has so many great images as always. You can check out his prompts for the week here.

I wanted to share another SWS post today because I know some of my readers really enjoy these. And I loved this image from Kevin, I knew I wanted to use it on one of my posts. And of course, when I saw it the first thing I thought about was good vibes lol. *wink wink nudge nudge*

I talk about this a lot but some of you that are new on the blog may not know this, I studied history and in particular the New Left movement aka the sixties and seventies (often also incorrectly referred to as the sixties despite being the seventies). This image brought back so many memories of all the things I studied back then. It was nice to reminisce.

I’ll leave you with one of my favourite songs I studied in my final year of uni. Many people misinterpreted this song even though it’s genuinely just an innocent and fun song. When I saw the image, this song was the first thing I thought of.

What did you think of this six word story? Do you have a good vibe lol? Let me know in the comments below because I would absolutely love to hear from you. And don’t forget to share your six word story or six word stories in the comments too. Or simply stop by and say hi!

I recently published my first book and would be very honoured if you took a minute to check it out here.

  1. I have not heard that song in many years, decades, but it is a fun song. It is good to hear that puff the magic dragon is innocent and not what many think.

    1. That’s so interesting you used to listen to the song. Yes, don’t worry it’s an innocent song and the musicians themselves have confirmed that multiple times.

  2. This reminds me of Cheech and Chong movies! 😂 The 70s rocked… 🔥

    1. I love Cheech & Chong!! 😅

      1. Cool! They are on IG too. 😂🤙🏻

        1. I watch some of their reels sometimes, still such a cool vibe 😅

          1. Ah the 1970s! 🥰😎🔥🔥

    2. lol……yep, I originally thought that’s what the song was about (I was a child of the 60s) but I was lucky enough to see peter paul and mary live before cancer took Mary Travers away…and now that Peter Yarrow has now passed…but yep, he explained..but man, they played so many songs we all know by heart…my fave was aways where have all the flowers gone…..I was 10 when the 60s ended, but really, I at some point became a hippy with hippy friends, and met more than a few draft dodgers at one point in my life…it was such a time that I want to say began way before I was born in 1959…..people like Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie, songs like if I had a hammer and this land is your land changed a lot….that era, back when newspapers, the 6 o’clock news meant something…and so much music, so much I’m still finding…check out Melanie, Joni Mitchell…Neil Young ….the Band..and more and more, Woodstock, read On the Road…so many movies, Easy Rider, Midnight Cowboy, Zambriski Point….things were so simple…and some of that era still exists, whenever I hear a singer songwriter, I think of that time, a lot

      1. They were incredible and yeah many people thought that’s what the song was about lol but they assured fans it was an innocent song. Yeah, things seemed simpler back then but also much more complicated. A very interesting time period.

  3. Weirdly, as someone who was a kid in the 1960s and 1970s, that era felt like one run-on decade. From my point of view, the Sixties ended between ’74 and ’75; Nixon’s fall from grace and the end of the Vietnam War marked the end of one era and the start of another.

    1. Vietnam war was huge is Soviet Union too, it happened before I was born but just like you said the consequences dragged much longer

    2. That’s what historians believe too, mid seventies is the point when the sixities began ending.

  4. I remembered you talking about how you studied history in University before. I would love to hear even more about your experiences with it and what you learned sometime. Maybe, possibly debunking some popular misconceptions about history in general. But, I probably should dig through your archives. You might’ve already done that. Lol! 😆

    1. Yesss I have an entire category with university related posts including the courses I took etc! 😃

      1. Oh boy! Here we go! I know what my next project is then! 😀😊

  5. I grew up with Peter, Paul and Mary, LOL! Used to sing along to those songs. That was a blast from the past! Wishing you good vibes, Pooja!

    1. That’s awesome, I love their music! Thanks, good vibes always 😀

  6. Lovely story and sentiments

    1. Thanks so much.

      1. You’re welcome

  7. Love the six-word story and the way you synced it with the image. What a nice go of it, Pooja!

    1. Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it!

      1. You’re most welcome!

  8. Great post, Pooja! All I can think of is Jeff Spicoli and his stoner buds spilling out of his VW van 😎🏄🏻‍♂️

    1. I love Ridgemont High!!

  9. Good vibes indeed! 😉😉😄
    Great one, Pooja!
I think the reason a lot of folks assume the 60s is because the late 60s and early 70s, at least from what I can tell, seemed very, very similar.

I wasn’t around until a little bit later, but honestly, they always looked very similar from the outside lol

    1. Always 😉💨
Actually this is so funny to me but most of the time when people refer to the sixties and sixties culture they actually mean the seventies. The tie dye clothing, free love, hippie culture stuff emerged in the seventies not really the sixties. It’s just the movement started in the sixties that created a basis for everything.

  10. I would love to know more about the 60s and the 70s because I’m an English major, so my history knowledge is not exactly strong or deep.
Besides what we learned at school was rewritten a few times depending on who was in power. They keep retiring it today while we are having this conversation, lol no rest for the wicked

    1. Maybe I can make a post about the 60s/70s because there are so many misconceptions and misinformation about it. It might be interesting for those that haven’t studied History.
Oh definitely, what you learn history in school it’s always subjective.

      1. Maybe you also have book or movie recommendation about it

        1. Yes, I absolutely do. On The Road by Jack Kerouac if you haven’t already read it. The Quiet American is fantastic, just reread it last year. The Fire Next Time is a must read. Also One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest, it had such a huge impact on the New Left Movement that we actually studied a lot of the themes in my history course. The Help both the book and movie are fantastic. I think the movie Woodstock is good too. And of course, Berkeley in the Sixties is a must watch if you are interested in the sixties and seventies. That’s what led to the entire New Left Movement not just in the US but worldwide.

          1. Thank you for the list Pooj

            1. No worries, hope you enjoy the books/movies. The sixties and seventies were a fascinating time.

  11. My Dad was born in Wales in 1951 so would have been a teenager during the 1960’s and I know he had records from the 1960’s and 1970’s by the Beatles and Stones. His political views were very much those of social justice leftist views. His work meant he was not allowed to be political during his career as he inspected the running of government owned bodies such as councils, hospitals and the police but deep down I always new he believed in the importance of loving your fellow man and doing right by them where ever he could.

I never discovered a ‘puff the magic dragon song in his record collection’. but I have heard the song before and heard about its link to drugs. My Dad was no stoner in his lifetime, but did smoke a pipe all his life. Being a stoner was left to me in my misspent youth, something I had to grow out of due to health reasons. It was no good for me whatsoever. People that are out of work these days in my city tend to smoke stronger herb known as skunk that stinks and just seems to knock them out all the time, it can’t be good for them.

    1. Thanks so much for sharing that. It’s interesting to learn more about your dad, his beliefs and his life in the 60’s and 70’s. I think many back then did feel strongly aligned with social justice leftist views.

It’s great he never became a stoner because I think a lot of people lost the political message behind the movement as they became too preoccupied with drugs. And it’s good you’ve taken care of your health and changed your habits. I’m sure the stronger stuff does cause issues. I read it’s linked to early onset alzheimer’s as well as other brain related issues.

  12. The 1960’s were my terrible teen years 🙂

    1. Hopefully you had some fun 🙂

      1. I can assure you I did. Worked hard and played hard.

  13. I like this post. There is so much in it. I had to watch the videos to feel the vibes.

    1. Thanks so much, the song always makes me feel the vibes too.

  14. Puff the magic dragon was my bedtime song way back when I was little. Good memories 😄

    1. Aw thanks so nice 😁

  15. 🙏☯️

    1. Yes, people tend to lean towards conservative values when they’re scared of the unknown or just miserable in general due to things like inflation which often follows a pandemic. Still, nothing lasts forever. Before the 60’s and 70’s were the 50’s which is historically one of the most conservative decade ever experienced.

  17. Having lived through the sixties with the good vibes, positivity and good fellowship I wish I was back there again. I despise this world of violence, division and hate. I really thought we’d put that behind us. Good vibes to you Pooj.

    1. I didn’t like it but I wish I was there too. Sometimes we have to move backwards to move forward at least that’s how I feel.

  18. I’m pickin’ up good vibrations (oom bop bop)
She’s giving me the excitations (excitations, oom bop bop)🎵🎶

    1. Love this song and was actually thinking about it as well when I wrote this but ended up going with Puff The Dragon to share 🎶

  19. I also immediately thought of Good Vibrations by The Beach Boys….but I love Puff the Magic Dragon too! 💞

    1. I did too, every time I hear the words good vibrations I think of that song haha. But I wanted to share Puff The Magic Dragon since it’s lesser known and has an interesting story behind it 💕

  20. is it? lucy in the sky too. was it? perhaps

    1. Lucy is a million percent about acid lol.

      1. what a trip. oh my clothes i did rip. as harri described it quote the dreaded lysergic acid. pieces of rope.

        1. Makes me miss the sixties lol.

          1. you missed them the 70 and 80 s you re the mystic guru however.

            1. The eighties I have no interest in living through but missing the 60’s and 70’s hurts.

              1. aw come on now gudka. you gonna go attitude on me. lmao. geddy sings a song from 1982 . subdivisions. ps he s singing about losers persons not things. nowhere is the dreamer or misfit so alone. btw rush is a dude band.

                1. 80’s music is amazing but I wouldn’t live in that era, I haven’t learnt great stuff about it lol.

  21. I knew you studied history, but somehow missed that you studied the 60s/70s, which thrills me. I was a weird teenager who would buy $5 cassettes from a bin at the record store and amassed quite a collection of music most of my friends wouldn’t recognize. I loved my Peter Paul and Mary tape, especially Leavin’ on a Jet Plane. Sigh, good vibes indeed. <3

    1. That’s so cool, my parents did that too and had a bunch of tapes still saved. Such a fun era in many ways and yes Peter, Paul and Mary were amazing. Good vibes always 🙂

      1. I miss having physical objects for music especially, but am also a ferocious minimalist so not much can be done. Amazon is stopping downloads of kindle books, which is concerning because that means they/govt can change anything they like about a book at any time. I heard one person on youtube talk about how they’ve had the covers of books changed without any choice in the matter, which seems like a little thing but is so concerning while people are censoring like crazy. Anyway, sorry for that rant when what I really wanted to say is:
Cool that your parents kept that music so you had the resource!!! <3 <3

        1. I know what you mean, it’s not the same but at the same time it’s nice not to have all the clutter. I didn’t know that about Amazon, that’s kind of scary. Maybe use a VPN so they can’t track your country? I think the censorship is only for Americans.

Thanks, yeah it’s cool to go through all that stuff they’ve saved!

          1. Peter Paul and Mary isn’t so usual, either. I wonder what other treasures they’ve kept. 🙂

I’ve got to learn how to download the books most important to me, I think, anything I wouldn’t want tampered with. It’s just so brazen.

            1. So many books, stamps, newspaper clippings etc. When we moved recently I got so many boxes of their stuff to go through.

Yup, keep downloaded copies of them.

              1. Ahhh, that’s wonderful. I didn’t have that experience with my parents, so think it’s especially cool and romantic to imagine them at different times. <3

                1. Yeah, I’m definitely very thankful they saved all that. It’s amazing to be able to share those memories with them.

  22. Great post, good vibes

    1. Thanks so much.

  23. It’s so weird to read about you studying a period that I lived through. God, I feel old right now! 🙂 Back in the day, we really believed we were on track, that – with our help – the world was becoming a better place. Looking around me today, I fear we may well have been wrong.

    1. If it makes you feel any better, I studied the decades I was a teenager in too. I know a lot of people back then thought that way and in a way some of the changes that happened in the sixties did change the world.

      1. True, in some ways attitudes and behaviours have changed for the better. But the steady progress towards a perfect society that I once believed to be possible was clearly a hopelessly naïve dream.

        1. Yeah, the dream of an eventual euphoric society didn’t happen and maybe never will but since we humans aren’t perfect we can’t expect our societies to be either. However, we can keep doing our best to make the world a better place and that’s what so many in the 60’s and 70’s did and continue to do.

  24. Good vibes for sure!!!!

    1. Good vibes always!

  25. Love your 6WS, love the history and background and of course Peter, Paul and Mary!!! Bring it back and sooooooon! 🙏🏼💗

    1. Thank you so much, yessss!! 💕

    1. Love The Beach Boys!

  26. I like your six word story. It is much better than what I was thinking.

The image struck me as some kind of fresh post apocalyptic scene that is reflected in the glass. Maybe it is because I have been watching too much news lately and have nervous premonitions about the future that are a throwback to the 60s and 70s, lol.

SWS: Where’s Dave. Dave’s not here man.

    1. Thanks so much. Ooh that’s really cool that you thought of something so different with the same image. Now that I think of it a lot of horror movies do have that vibe.

Ahhh Cheech and Chong, love that SWS.

  29. Great use of the six words, Phoebe!

  30. Love your story and what a great song, Pooja! 💞

    1. Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it! 💕

  31. Nice Six Word Story, Pooja. Puff the Magic Dragon is a great song, and I have always liked Peter, Paul and Mary.

    1. Thanks so much. I only learned about Peter, Paul and Mary when I studied the sixties but their music stuck with me.

      1. You’re welcome, Pooja. 🐉💚

  32. Thanks for the good vibes! And the back story and accompanying music is so good too! Sending you good vibes today, Pooja!

    1. Thank you so much, sending some good vibes your way too!

  33. The SWS is a good one and yes I have a good vibe.😅

    1. Thank you so much 😅😊

  34. You are welcome 😊

  35. I was born in the 70s and I remember the song well – I was shocked when I was older and people implied it had a hidden back story, and was then overjoyed when the accusation was squashed! Great post, Linda xx

    1. Yes, I find it odd that they were so strongly accused of hidden messages because the first time I heard the song it seemed sweet and innocent. Which thankfully it is! Thanks so much.

  36. Hah, that SWS really fits the image. “Puff the Magic Dragon” was so big when I was a kid. I’m so glad it’s still being listened to.

    1. Thank you, that song is such a classic and yes still around!

  37. That van is reeking of “good vibes” 😂.

    1. Some high quality fun 😉

  38. I can assure you Hippies were around in the 1960’s. I have pictures to prove it (I was married in the 60’s). You had to be around the right places! Tie dye clothing was around long, long before the 1960’s. Everybody thinks things were invented when they first discovered them.

    1. Oh yeah Hippies were around in the fifties too actually but I meant it didn’t become so mainstream till the very late 60’s and early to mid 70’s. during the sixties the focus was much more on political movements whereas the focus shifted more to fashion, art, music, drugs etc in the 70’s.

  39. Happiness breeds serenity, love and joy

    1. Yes, absolutely. Thank you for the lovely six word story.

  40. Puff The Magic Dragon. Now that takes me back! Lol 🙂🙏

    1. Thanks, yeah an older song but still so fun to listen to! Sorry about the late replies your comments got stuck in my spam 🙃

      1. It happens. 😉
