These Empty Roads

Night after night

I wander these empty roads

Not because they are devoid of people

But because they are devoid of humanity

It’s a lonely experience

Seeing the world so clearly

Watching people make the same mistakes every day

But never able to help them

Never able to change their minds

So I wander these empty roads

Removing myself from the equation

Knowing that loneliness

Is better than the pain.

These Empty Roads

About These Empty Roads:

This poem was inspired by Kevin’s No Theme Thursday prompt for the week. He has so many great images as always this week and this one in particular really grabbed my attention. You can check out all his prompts here.

This post was somewhat hurriedly written because I’ve had a lot going on today but I really wanted to share a post. What inspired the poem? Well, after regular therapy and making a conscious effort to make changes to my life, I can’t help but notice just how many people refuse to do the same. It’s sad how many people are stuck in cycles that are ultimately doing them much more harm than good.

Unfortunately, we can only do so much for others. I’ve learnt that all I can do is protect myself from people that don’t want to grow because I don’t want to be stuck with them.

Comments for this post have been switched off as I have a busy day tomorrow and won’t be able to respond to comments.

I recently published my first book and would be honoured if you took a minute to check it out here.
