Wednesday Season 2 Part 2 Review

Wednesday Season 2 Part 2 Review

Note: “Wednesday Season 2 Part 2 Review” contains major spoilers. If you haven’t finished season 2 and want to avoid spoilers please don’t read ahead.

I finished Wednesday season 2 part 2 pretty much almost as soon as it came out but haven’t had the time to share a proper review yet so I thought I would do so today. I was hoping that this part would resolve some of the discrepancies in the first part of the season. And so I was disappointed that this was not the case for most of the plot issues. You can read my thoughts on the first part of the season here.

What I Enjoyed

I absolutely loved Lady Gaga’s cameo, she’s perfect for the vibe of the show and did an excellent job. In fact, most of the cameo’s as well as the new stars that were on season 2 were amazing. I really enjoyed Grandmama too. It seems her character is going to be very different than the original one we’re used to in The Addams Family but I don’t mind because the actress is fantastic.

I love seeing more of Tyler and Wednesday because they have the craziest dynamic and I’m obsessed. The fact that she saved him instead of killing him had me so happy. And I know you’re probably thinking he’s a murderer why are you shipping him with Wednesday? Well, this is Wednesday Addams we’re talking about. I don’t think murder is high on her list of red flags lol.

The ending was perfect and had me hoping the next season comes out a lot faster than this one did lol. I feel like we’ve unlocked a family member with Ophelia and like they did with Grandmama it seems the character will be a lot darker than it was in earlier adaptations. Can’t wait to see the face reveal in like another three years…

What I Didn’t Enjoy

There were a lot of things that I found problematic with the plot i.e they didn’t work with season 1 or they just didn’t make sense overall. Let’s get into it.

Plot

One of the biggest discrepancies in the plot for me was Tyler’s mum and Morticia being on good terms when they first ran into one another. Why is the world would Francoise not be mad at Morticia for causing the death of her brother considering she and Isaac seem (weirdly) obsessed with one another. That made no sense to me.

Weems knowing Francoise well enough to almost have been her bridesmaid ruined the plot of season 1 because if Weems was aware that Francoise was a hyde why was she so skeptic about Tyler been one. So much so that she lost her life over it. That makes no sense.

Why were they trying to stop Isaac from removing the Francoise’s hyde? I get in the end because of the Gomez/Pugsley thing. But why did they try to stop him initially when Morticia and Gomez hadn’t revealed what they did yet? Wouldn’t it be a good thing if she didn’t hyde anymore and wouldn’t that sort of technology save lives? That was weird to me.

Lastly, would it not have been a giant red flag for Morticia and Gomez to see Isaac and Francoise again? Like they were way to chill with that if you ask me. And I get that being cold and aloof is the Addams way but they’ve always been protective about their kids and would have warned them about something that was this big of a deal. Especially after Gomez saw Isaac and Morticia talked to Francoise.

General

I’m not a fan of the Moticia vs Wednesday trope which seems to have worsened in season 2. I feel like originally, the Addams were always very close with one another. It seems the writers of the show have taken Wednesday having strong boundaries and brutally honest opinions and turned it into her having disdain for her family and in particular towards her mother. I feel like Wednesday and Morticia always respected one another even if they had their differences especially because the Addams are supposed to be the opposite of what was the norm for families at the time and so they encouraged their kids to be themselves unapologetically.

The ending literally felt like it was recycled from season 1. You’re telling me this season took THREE YEARS to make and they couldn’t have come up with a more original ending? Her parents accidentally murdering someone, covering it up and eventually their kids get involved in something and they’re forced to reveal it. It’s exactly the same as season 1 with slight tweaks. If this is how season 3 ends too, I’m writing a letter to Netflix.

Finally, I still don’t like Luis Guzmán as Gomez. In general, I really like Luis Guzmán and thought he was awesome as a guest on Community. However, I just don’t think he’s passionate enough to be Gomez. And to be clear it has nothing to do with his looks. Many pointed out online that he was cast as Gomez because he looked similar to the original Gomez in the comic and I agree. However, Gomez has always been a dramatic and passionate person and I just don’t see that here. For whatever reason, he just seems to fall flat on the show.

My Predictions For Season 3…

I thought it would be fun to share some predictions for season 3 and see if any of them come true.

  1. Lurch will have a bigger role in season 3 and we’ll see more about his backstory.
  2. Tyler will save Wednesday’s life at some point as a thank you for sparing his this season.
  3. Wednesday will help Enid turn back somehow- this one’s obvious.
  4. There will be a plot twist where Ophelia isn’t actually trying to kill Wednesday she’s trying to save her.
  5. Grandmama will start out as a villain but it will eventually be revealed that she was trying to protect her family.

Overall

Despite having a lot of criticisms with the plot, I actually did very much enjoy this season of Wednesday. I think I’m more critical because they literally had three years to perfect it and still left so much in there that either didn’t work with season 1 or just didn’t make sense in general. But again, it was still interesting enough to keep me watching till the end and I will definitely, without a doubt, be watching season 3.

Also, if anyone has explanations for the issues I pointed out in the plot feel free to share them. I don’t have the best attention span and sometimes I miss stuff lol.

That’s really all I’m waiting on Season 3 for. 🤣😂😆

    1. Yesss so excited to see more of Ophelia’s story!

      1. Yup. Me, too!

  3. I’ve never seen one episode and don’t see any reason for this.

    1. That’s fair, it’s a very niche show which not everyone would enjoy.

      1. Right. Happy Monday!

  5. I’ve watched Season 1, which I thoroughly enjoyed (apart from the not so nice vibe between Wednesday and Morticia). This contradicted the original, as you said. Didn’t really like Luis Guzmán as Gomez; as you mentioned, and I agree, he lacks the passion and daring of the original. As for Season 2, I’ve only watched the first two episodes. I can’t seem to bring myself to complete the series, which is a shame as I truly enjoyed Season 1.

    1. Season 2 starts out slow but it does get quite interesting. The only issue is all the discrepancies with the plot.

      1. Thanks for the heads up. I will watch the remainder. But, as you said – the discrepancies are off-putting. I’m finding that such a shame. It could have been so much better. There’s still so much to love, though.

        1. I agree, it could have been done so much better. But yeah still a lot to love.

  6. 🙏🌹

    Aum Shanti

  7. You wrote a detailed and very helpful review for seaason 2. I got the feeling that despite your concerns about the plot you liked this season a little better. I have to admit I did watch Wednesday yet, except for one episode.

    1. Yes, I think I enjoyed it overall and hope season 3 will be better. Oh I see, that’s fine but I will say it gets better after the first one or two episodes.

  8. Dear Puja
Thanks for liking my post. ‘Technology’. 🙏

    1. My pleasure 🙏

  9. I’m totally invested in this series obviously. I’m interested to see what direction the show will take at the beginning of season three having Wednesday with uncle Fester cause he’s now getting his own series too. Season three will definitely be darker as Jenna Ortega has always wanted. Wednesday Adams is not a cheesy teen romance or supposed to be at least 🙂

    1. Yesss Uncle Fester is so fun and I love his character. It’s so weird in the best way. I hope it’s darker, that would be awesome but I don’t want it to just be mindlessly violent. The Addams were never supposed to be that way. It’s more like creepy, you know.

      1. For sure 🙂

    Glad you’re enjoying the show.

  11. Not see Season 1 yet! Might give it a go!

    1. Check it out, the first season is very good!

  12. I’ve never watched this, but Lady Gaga’s cameo would make it worthwhile. An excellent and detailed review, Pooja.

    1. Lady Gaga’s cameo was perfect, she really matched the vibe of the show. Thanks so much 😊

      1. You’re welcome, Pooja.

  13. Hahahaha “Well, this is Wednesday Addams we’re talking about. I don’t think murder is high on her list of red flags lol 😂
Wait is this a whole take on the Adams family? Lady Gaga seemed to
Press. I wasn’t a fan then, not sure I would be now? 🩷

    1. Yesss it’s based on The Addams Family but very different then the original version!

      1. Gotcha, thanks!!! 🙏

  14. What a great review, Pooja. I’ve never watched this, but seeing Lady Gaga would be fun. 💕

    1. Thank you so much. Yeah, her cameo was great- perfect for the vibe of the show 💕

  15. While I enjoyed the original black and white tv show and the movies, and even (surprisingly) the 2 animated movies, I have felt zero interest in checking this out. I think that is because I have always viewed the Addams Family has one unit. This show is trying to focus on one character and to me, that’s not actually very interesting. The others might be there, but they aren’t the focus.

    1. I agree, I think they work best when the family is together instead of focusing on just one character. I think the family was a much bigger part of the season this time but I wish they had been cast better. Other then Wednesday and Uncle Fester, the others are not great with their roles.

  16. Thanks for the review, Pooja. I was debating about watching the second season. Now, I will, if I have the time. Have a great week.

    1. Yeah, give it a watch if you get time. It’s quite interesting.

  17. Dear Pooja
Look, it started raining again as soon as I started reading your magnetic post.
Thanks for liking my post,’Lifebound’. 🌹💓

    1. Thanks so much and that’s great, I love rain 🌧️

  18. Totally late for the review (“killing time”) I was waiting for, and you delivered!!! I have to know your thoughts on Only Murders next (lol) … I agree with everything especially Gomez (Luis Guzman revised his Count of Monte Cristo role ~ Awesome movie)!! There were obvious discrepancies but overall, the production, set, and characters make the show “Wolf-out”!!! Slayed post!! 😀

    1. Thank you! Absolutely it was still very much fun to watch but I hope next season they’ll be a little more careful with the plot! Ooh will definitely check out Count of Monte Cristo 😊

  19. Great review 💯

    1. Thank you 😊

  20. Hi! My husband and I just watched this season last week. We waited for both parts because I have severe memory issues (even some of what you’re saying is news to me 🤣). I’m still trying to figure out just how young the target audience is. It seems like Wednesday is one of those girls who wants to seem super dark, but it’s all for show. Like the goth and emo kids in high school. I was pleasantly surprised she was literally allergic to color 🤣🤣. I’m an Enid fan, I think she is just so cute, and I loved her hair. Hopefully, the third season won’t take as long since there’s no strike. I’m glad they included Weems in this season.

    1. Lol I understand, I also just hate having to wait but my curiosity gets the best of me 😅 Yeah, usually Wednesday isn’t like the “goth kid” in the OG versions but this one definitely felt like she was just trying to be edgy which was a little cringe at times. Lol yesss the allergy to colour was funny especially because people really can be allergic to colours. Enid is great, I hated that she and Wednesday were rarely together this season 😫
