What Is AEO And How Can I Make My Posts More AEO Friendly?

woman in pink dress using laptop computer | You Should NOT Be Making These Blogging Mistakes In 2025 | Three Ways To Instantly Get More Followers On WordPress | AEO

This is my first post about AEO and I wanted to give you a little background information on why. Personally, I don’t care too much about AI and how it affects my content. However, AI is definitely everywhere. And so there are obviously people out there who do care about AEO. Also, AI is the main reason so many are seeing decreased Search Engine views on posts that were once very popular. And AEO friendly posts can help pick the traffic back up.

Recently, someone that read my post about growing your followers on WordPress reached out and asked if I could share a post about AEO and how one can use it to increase traffic. So, I got into it and started doing my research. And this is what I’ve found and wanted to share.

For anyone wondering about AEO, I hope this helps! And if you’re someone that isn’t concerned about AEO or perhaps aren’t actively trying to grow your blog than feel free to skip this post. I won’t take it personally, I swear lol.

What Is AEO?

AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) is an evolution of SEO that focuses on getting your content featured as a direct answer in AI-generated search results, while SEO primarily aims to rank web pages in traditional search results. Unlike SEO, which prioritizes keywords and backlinks for clicks, AEO uses structured content, like FAQs and concise paragraphs, to provide direct answers to user questions via AI assistants and chatbots.

How To Make Your Posts More AEO Friendly

Now that you know a little more about AEO and it’s importance for your site, let’s get into how you can make your posts more AEO friendly. And of course, like I mentioned this is totally optional. And mostly for people looking to increase traffic to their site. If you’re blogging as a hobby or don’t particularly care about AEO, feel free to skip this.

Improve Mobile-Friendliness And Speed

Most people use their mobile devices when they search for things, we can see this in the statistics. However, a lot of sites are not mobile-friendly. In fact, sites that may load perfectly on your laptop/desktop may be incredibly slow and difficult to navigate on your phone. And a lot of themes, including the ones on WordPress, are not very mobile friendly.

For both SEO and AEO, the first thing you want to do is make sure that your load time is minimal to decrease the number of people leaving your site as it’s not loading fast enough. And of course, no one wants to be on a site when they’re on their phone that takes forever to navigate. Make sure your site is easy to use and mobile-friendly. Because in this day and age, if your site isn’t exceptional there’s going to be lots of others that are that have the same niche/niches.

Monitor Performance

Tools like Google Search Console can be incredibly useful for tracking what posts are bringing in the most traffic. And which answers are already performing well on Search Engines like Google. This will give you a better idea of what you’re doing right and what needs to be improved. If a certain topic is getting an exceptional amount of traffic, it’s probably a good idea to create similar content. Not just with similar topics but also the structure of the post itself.

Keep Content Fresh

Regularly review and update your older posts to make sure they remain accurate and relevant. I do this literally daily but to be fair I have a lot of posts. I would also add that it’s important to share content about trending topics if you’re looking to bring in more traffic and have your content used for answers. For example, with Christmas and other seasonal holidays coming up, a lot of people are going to be searching for related content. This would be a great time to share posts to do with Christmas or whichever holidays you would like to talk about.

Answer Questions Directly

Creating content that provides concise answers to user questions upfront is a great way to better your AEO. You can start your post with short answers to questions users may be asking search engines,. Then provide more details in the rest of the post. Here’s an extra tip (that’s what she said?), do some research into what questions are most commonly asked to Search Engines in your niche. I do that once or twice a year and get quite a few ideas for content from there.

Structure With Headings And Lists

Clear headings (H2, H3) for questions are a must. Headings help bots understand your content and therefore use it accordingly.

Breaking up information with bullet points, numbered lists, and short paragraphs also helps to make your content easier to crawl and understand.

Create FAQ Sections

Include dedicated FAQ sections to answer multiple related questions in your blog post. This is great for both SEO and AEO actually. This will again help crawlbots better understand your content. And make them much more likely to use your post/posts/site in answers. I also think this is great for your audience in general. It helps them understand the post even if they may not have time to read the whole thing.

Final Thoughts

I hope this post was helpful and help you better understand what AEO is and how to make your posts more AEO friendly. If you have any questions or suggestions about what blogging advice topic I should write about next, let me know in the comments below or simply stop by and say hi!

  1. I despise AI in its different uses. Its dangerous and should be eliminated.

    1. Not to mention the insane amount of resources AI is using up. Those resources should be protected for humans.

      1. Yes! I read an article yesterday that talked about how people are not using Google as much and have started using AI engines for search. I’ve never liked Google one bit, the other choice is no better.

        1. I agree and not a fan of Google at all either but I feel like ChatGPT is worse because it can be quite sycophantic which positively reinforces delusions that should absolutely not be reinforced. It’s leading to a lot of serious mental health issues.

          1. Really? I tried that thing and was not impressed. No thanks! 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

            1. I know what you mean 🙁

  2. Unfortunately AI is here to stay but it can destroy human creativity and blur the beauty of a person’s personal contributions to the net as they are harvested and merged with everyone elses work on the big server databases without any legal protection of copyrighted work. Even comments and likes on social networks are harvested by AI and a profile on you is developed and sold to advertisers, political entities and other intrusive groups who want to make money out of you or manipulate your thinking.

    1. I totally agree, it’s exactly why I try to avoid AI as much as possible but it seems no matter what as long as you’re on the internet they have your information.

  5. It is the first time I hear about AEO and I have to admit I’ve never considered it. You have a lot of great advice here. I should say that I’ve noticed that Google Answer Machine / AI sometimes invoke my Leonberger site when you ask questions about Leonbergers.

    1. Thank you so much. Yes, I’m sure your posts answer a number of questions for that topic so I’m not surprised AI references it in answers.

  6. A very useful post for people who want to expand their blog reach.

    1. Thank you so much.

      1. You’re very welcome

  7. Thank goodness I’m just a small time blogger….

    1. It can be a lot 😭

  8. I really appreciated the “That’s what she said?” strikethrough there! LOL! 😂

    1. Lol I couldn’t resist (that’s what she said??) 🤭

      1. HAHA! 😂 it’s literally irresistible! 😂

        1. That’s what she said! 😭

  9. I’m still not a fan of Ai but it’s everywhere. I use it to generate titles. It gives me a boost sometimes. But stifles my creativity a bit. 🤣😎🙃

    1. Yeah, it’s a double-edged sword for sure. Helpful but at the same time decreases our own creativity.

  10. Thank you for sharing this information, Pooja. There are advantages, and disadvantages to AI, but you already know that. I use AI for my images, since I learned of the scam related to royalty-free images. Otherwise, I prefer my writing to be authentic, and a product of my own creativity.

    1. Yeah for sure. I’ve noticed a lot of people are not leaning more towards using AI images and scams like that is one of the major reasons. I don’t think I would be comfortable letting AI dictate my writing either especially creative stuff like poetry.

  12. great post. adapting is key. As creators we have to be able to give and enrich and be present for our audience, new and newly discovering and searching to find us and also add value to them as well.

    1. I totally agree, we have to adapt as technology changes.

  13. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. With the constant changes with technology, there is much to learn. I appreciate you taking the time to inform us.

    1. Happy to share it 😊

  14. Very helpful!

    1. That’s great!

  15. Thank you. 🙂

    1. Happy to share it 😊

  16. I hadn’t heard of AEO before reading this post, but it makes sense given how integrated AI has become into searching. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Yeah AI is quickly becoming a part of most platforms and search engines. Happy to share it!

  18. Thanks a lot Pooja for sharing this information, I heard that today music also made with AI.

    1. Happy to share it. Yes, music, album covers and lyrics are sometimes done with AI. It’s a shame.

  19. Absolutely right Pooja

  20. I live and learn..didn’t even realise this was something I needed to pay attention to. Thanks for sharing. Pooja.

    1. It’s new to me too but wanted to share what I had learnt.

      1. I appreciate it. Gotta do some research as well.

  21. Thank you. I’ve never heard of AEO before.

    1. Happy to share it, AEO is relatively new.

  22. I haven’t heard about this before. Very interesting.

I may have missed it, but have you created a post that shows the WP themes that are more responsive in mobile format?

It may be time for me to make a change!

    1. Thanks so much. No, I don’t have a list of those themes at the moment but working on a post for it soon. Check back next week. If you’re theme is an older one, than definitely time for a change- old themes don’t work well on newer phones!

  23. Thank you for keeping us informed and current, dear Pooja.

    1. Happy to share it. Thanks for stopping by.

  24. Excellent article, very clear and useful for understanding what AEO is and how to improve our publications to make them more search engine friendly.

    1. Thank you so much.

  25. Working with a professional SEO agency can make a real difference, especially when it comes to technical SEO, content optimization, and long-term growth. A good agency focuses on sustainable strategies rather than quick wins, which is important for consistent search visibility.

  26. Super helpful explanation of AEO! Direct answers, FAQs, schema markup, fresh content, and simple formatting are key for AI like ChatGPT to cite your content.

    1. Yes, I totally agree and thanks!

  27. Here is a natural, engaging comment you can post on that blog:

Great post! I really appreciate how you explained AEO in such a simple and practical way. The comparison between traditional SEO and Answer Engine Optimization was especially helpful, because many bloggers are still trying to understand how AI-driven search is changing the way content gets discovered.

I also agree with your point about mobile-friendliness and speed. Even if someone focuses on AEO or SEO, user experience is still the foundation. If a site loads slowly or is difficult to navigate on mobile, readers will leave before they even see the content.

It’s interesting to see how structured content like FAQs and clear answers can help posts appear in AI-generated results. I think many bloggers underestimate how important formatting and clarity are for this.

Thanks for sharing your research and insights. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series and learning more about how bloggers can adapt to these changes in search and AI.
