Ava DuVernay Quote

Quote Of The Day

Ava DuVernay Quote:

"I'm not going to continue knocking that old door that doesn't open for me. I'm going to create my own door and walk through that." - Ava DuVernay Quote

What’s Up With Pooj?

It’s been an incredibly busy time for me recently and this week will be even more hectic. My socialising battery is at 0% but the week has only started.

Yesterday was my cousins arangetram which was really great, she did an amazing job. It takes years of hard work and dedication to get to that point. At the arangetram I ran into another cousin of mine who is in town for a couple of days. I’ve mentioned her before, we only connected some time ago but she’s a really fun person. She’s so upbeat and social it’s contagious. And through her, completely randomly, I ended up reconnecting with an old neighbour of mine that I grew up with. We went to lunch today and had a lovely time, I hope we can continue to keep in touch because I enjoyed chatting with her. She’s so intelligent, it’s nice to be able to talk to someone that’s smart and on the same wavelength.

I have so many lunches and dinners this week too with different family members. So don’t expect a lot of posts lol.

  1. Great hearing you have plenty of people to mix with. I’ve just had 9 days sleeping rough. Coming back in tonight. Plenty to work on… using reddit to find a beta reader for WIP1

    1. Thanks so much. Oh no, sorry to hear that but hope things improve for you soon.

      1. Working on it. Blog is improving

        1. Good, that’s great.

  2. What a great quote. I will pass that along.

    1. So glad you liked it.

  3. I enjoyed the quote Pooj! Enjoy all the lunches and dinners this week! My week is going to be pretty quiet, but right now it is storming pretty bad! I’m laying here on my bed listening to the rain. X

    1. So glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much. Hope the storm ends soon!

  4. Great thought

  6. This reminds me of all the doors that long ago I once knocked on when I wasn’t truly qualified to enter, being in a bad place and having many gifts to give but also very serious shortcommings, desperate for something new. And I remember those that opened for me anyway but often did not last but also those that closed but remained unlocked, those that said no, -but maybe latter. So I walked away but kept dreaming.

Our culture has become such that going to such a door again, as a new person in many ways but also partly the same old me, feels not just awkward but also sort of like a tresspass. Many are those who say don’t. I don’t want to bother others, I want to respect so I tread carefully.

Yet I think now that much of society at least in the US and from what I can tell, other English speaking societies as well (and probably some others too!) have swung too far from both loyalty and careful persistance and stuburnness, for revival of old dreams long set aside or broken, which are only appropreate things to do under the right set of circumstances, but sometimes they are and it can be so wonderful when it is! But I firmly beleive they do have a place in our social lives at times, and for too many these days it has been lost or never found to begin with.

So I go to new doors now, yet now also find myself on occasion carefully, often reluctently yet with new confidence at times, starting to knock on just a few of those old doors (only the very few most important ones to me) that once rejected my offer but only after some time and that still showed me love and never wrote me off completely to my face at least. And I wait to see if, and when so, how and to what degree they are opened for me..

    1. Thanks for sharing your experiences. I think we live in a world that does not always accommodate dreams especially when those dreams don’t lead to profits instantly or can’t guarantee profits. However, I think that’s why it’s even more important to keep trying and knocking on doors even when it brings us discomfort. When one shuts, there’s always more you can try.

  7. Enjoy the amazing food and especially the amazing people this week! That quote is so badass too! I need to mark that one down! 💪🏻

    1. Thank you so much and so glad you enjoyed the quote! 😊

  8. Actually love that quote, quite a good message of perserverance!

    1. Thank you, so glad you enjoyed the quote!

  9. Great Quote and you sound like a social animal this week, Pooja! Have fun and enjoy the ride.. tis the season! ❣️ Me? I’m still decompressing and laying “low” as much as that’s possible. Interesting song!!❣️

    1. Glad you enjoyed the quote! Haha yes, I’m having a very social week which I think is going to turn into a social month! That’s great, glad you’re getting some low energy time, we need rest to recover 💗

      1. I sure did yes I think we’ve traded places for a change. This is a good thing.!
        💕❤️💕
        Keep having fun!

  10. You sound very busy, but it’s a good kind of busy. When you’re busy, that seems to be when time flies by the fastest lol 😆

    1. That’s so true, I feel like the hours turn into minutes when we’re busiest! 😅

  11. That seems like a good option if you can make your own door. If you can around the door and find a different way in that may be a better option. Just make sure you are at the correct place. 🙂 Hope you find some time to recharge.

    1. Haha yes, going around could be a good alternate too. Thanks so much 🙂

  12. It’s good to connect with family… yea during this time of the year my social battery is on “E” as well. I got to make it though.

I learned something new in your post today. Thank you

    1. Yeah, it’s such a social month usually. Thank you so much, glad to hear that.

  13. 🙏🌹

    Aum Shanti

    1. Yes, it’s always fun when I hang out with the right cousins/family members.
Oh for sure, it’s so important to take our own path that can bring us happiness. And I agree, although there’s hateful and evil people out there, there’s a lot of good people too.

  15. I’m glad that you’re having a great time with friends and family. Do rest and recharge in between. I love this quote- one should create opportunities for oneself.

    1. Thanks so much, I think I’ll be relaxing most of tomorrow so I should be back to normal. So glad you enjoyed the quote.

      1. Take care my dear friend

  16. Arangetram, I learned something new today.

    1. I’m glad the post introduced you to something new. Arangetram’s aren’t very well known outside of Indian communities.

  17. Well, you seem to be doing ok even with all the socializing, so I hope that positive trend continues 😀

We have our work Christmas party on thursday and I have to say that I am not looking forward to it. I have a feeling that a lot of people are going to come in friday with aching heads…

    1. Thanks, so far I don’t mind the socialising because I can come hope and relax after. Ooh I see, work parties often become end up with people going overboard 🙁

  18. Great quote. I’m all for building doors.
I’m not listening to anything at the moment – I have computer problems – no sound! Gonna have to call someone in! What a drag.
    What’s an arangetram??

    1. Oh no, hope the issue gets fixed soon. An arangetram is a type of traditional Indian dance graduation. Really cool to watch.

  19. I love the quote and the idea of creating our own doors! 💞💞💞

    1. Glad you enjoyed the quote and same here! 💗

  20. I love the quote, and enjoy your upcoming plans with family, and friends. Not much going on with us, and I am still working on the images in my blog. Sigh.

    1. Thank you so much. Hopefully you’ll be done with that soon, changes to the blog are always a hassle 🙁

      1. You’re welcome, Pooja. Yep, it’s quite time-consuming, but worth it in the long run.

  21. If the door isn’t opening…its time for a new one…a great quote , Pooja …

sounds like a busy week for you…enjoy…🤍

    1. Yup, totally agree and thank you ☺️

Nice quote. Congratulations to your cousin on the accomplishment.

    1. Glad you enjoyed the quote and thank you.

  23. Great quote! Open your own doors, when all are closed. The arangetram sounds like a wonderful event to attend. Enjoy the lunches and dinners – better than cooking! It’s a busy week here, with all sorts with volunteering, family support, Christmas shopping, and blogging.

Great song choice… that album is fabulous, and includes Cash doing covers of bands like Depeche Mode. It was the last album he released in his lifetime.

    1. Thanks, glad you liked the quote! Yes, it’s been lovely and definitely better than cooking lol. That sounds busy but nice, I’m sure Christmas will be amazing.
Yes, this album always stuck with me although I love his older stuff too. This song in particular is one of my absolute favourites.

      1. Yes, life is good.

        It’s a terrific song, yeah.

  24. Great quote, Pooja, and love the song too. Enjoy this time of year, and don’t forget to breathe. 🥰

    1. Glad you enjoyed both and thank you 😊

  25. My plan is to go to the local grocery store and stock up on canned goods before Old Man Winter rolls in. He’s just playing with us here for right now. I know better. ❤️✌️

    1. That’s totally fair, it’s no fun going out for groceries in the snow. ❤️😊

  26. Pooja, loved the quote! The essence of never giving up.

Very cool about the arangetram, sounds very grueling, a lot of preparation and practice. Sounds like your social battery might have found the charger with all your recent lunches and meet ups!

Me and the guy next door get together to jam and we’re trying to learn “Fool on the Hill” by the Beatles. A few tricky chords and I’m trying to get my wife to play the recorder during the bridge, but she’s reluctant. I’ve sorta hinted that her Christmas present might be extra sparkly if she goes along… I think she’s weakening 😂😎🎄🎁

    1. Glad you enjoyed it! Ooh that sounds like lots of fun and it the sparkly thing is sparkly enough I’m sure she’ll give in 😅🎁

  27. Love this quote and never rule out a window 😉 (lol) … Door’s always open to you, Pooja <3 and sending you extra love / wishes = "fuel" / time so not to go on fumes! 😀

    1. Thank you, so glad you enjoyed the quote and really appreciate the wishes! 😊

  28. Hey Pooj,
My week was busy, it started at zero as for the energy level, now I have a full battery. Happy Friday!
The closed doors are sometimes tough, I have faced those a few times. But as the old saying goes, if God shuts the door, check out the windows! So this is what I did, it works in some cases, otherwise you need a custom solution. Have a nice weekend!

    1. Happy Friday! I’m glad to hear that, I’m doing better i.e battery as well. There’s definitely always something else we can do when one door closes. Have a nice weekend too.

  29. I’m sure the performance was lovely, Pooja. I attended an Indian dance when I worked for an Indian/Pakistani newspaper. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

    1. It really was and that’s wonderful, so glad you had that experience.

  30. I always love it when you reconnect with family and have a good time.

    1. Thank you, I do as well!
