Baked? More Like Baking!

I have been indulging in a new hobby recently- baking. I’ve always proclaimed that I like to cook and prefer not to dip my toes into the baking scene. Obviously, I lied lol because I’ve been getting into it and it’s been lots of fun and not that difficult either. To be fair, I’ve only baked fairly easy things so far but still. Easier, than I assumed it would be.

With the prices rising for baked goods and the quality constantly decreasing, I finally had enough and decided I’m just going to DIY it. I’ve been seeing recipes for different types of breads all over my FYP and even saved the ones that seemed easy.

I started with this focaccia a few weeks ago and I’m happy to say it turned out nearly perfect and beyond delicious. I didn’t realise there was such a huge difference in taste between homemade bread and store bought bread. This was easily the second best focaccia I’ve had in my life.

Homemade Vegan Focaccia Bread

Next, I made some homemade buns which turned out a little uneven in size but the taste was incredible. Like, I genuinely could not believe I had made something so delicious with my own two hands.

Lastly, I made this bread today and it was also not particularly difficult to make at all. It turned out so soft, moist, fresh, and yum. Like, I can never go back to store bough bread after this lol.

So, that’s what I’ve been up to recently and my tummy is happy haha!

  1. I love homemade bread! I don’t usually bake much, but my sister does, so she gives me lots of baked goodies!

    1. That’s awesome and yeah homemade bread is so good!

  2. Yum! Everything looks so good. I’m totally with you on the costs of things. It gets to a point where it makes more sense to make everything yourself. And I bet it tastes way better than anything store-bought too.

    1. Thank you! For sure, it’s actually much more affordable to eat homemade rather than store-bought. The prices are crazy these days. And yes it tastes so good plus your whole house smells like a bakery for a day lol!

  3. I grew up with little money. If we wanted cookies, we would be making them. The store-bought ones were so expensive and not that great. I used to compete in the county fair and win a lot for baking. Then I discovered I had celiac disease and I stopped baking. Now, with diabetes it’s even harder, but I find myself looking for recipes to combat inflammation. I’m getting pretty good at lentil flour rustic pizza crust and anti-inflammatory bread. Granted, I won’t be snacking on the yummy treats that always come to my mind when I think of baking, but at least I can help my body not be so very inflamed all the time. It makes me super cranky!!!! 😁. Lots of fun for everyone in the near vicinity!

    1. Celiac is awful, I’m so sorry that and diabetes has limited your food options but it’s awesome you’re still trying to make things you can enjoy that are good for your body!

  4. These are all looked tasty! I’m a fan of bread honestly and worked in a bakery before so I know. I also wanted to try baking specifically cupcakes, might get to it someday..

    1. Thank you so much! Ooh nice, cupcakes are fun to make- my mum used to make them a lot when I was younger. I hope you’re able to make them someday soon.

  5. that’s very impressive, i agree that it’s hard to go back to the regular bread after tasting home made delicatessen. it gets addictive though, i bet you know it already. i like baking in colder season, last thing i made was chocolate brownie. i wanna make poppy seed muffins next.
one of the schools i sub at has this tradition to bring home made bread to share every friday. it’s really amazing to be able to try different kinds of home made breads that your classmates baked. it’s like opening another dimension in connecting with other people, so wonderfully magical.

    1. For sure, homemade bread has such a fresh taste. It’s so delicious. Haha yeah, I have to stop myself from devouring the whole thing. Ooh nice, good luck with the muffins.
That sounds like such a nice tradition and a great way for everyone to connect.

      1. I would like to participate but all my Fridays are booked with other schools. Maybe next year…

        1. Ooh yeah, maybe you’ll have some Friday’s free next year.

          1. Oh, the thing is to get an assignment in this high school on Friday as I have a number of schools I work with. So tomorrow I’m going to Tualatin, it’s the one that has a massage chair

            1. Ooh interesting, it must be fun to work at multiple schools.

              1. I personally like it. Each one has a character

    1. This is your sign to get back into it!

  8. This is excellent, Pooja! Enjoy baking, I’d love to try your baking! ❤️😌

    1. Thank you! If I could send you a loaf I would 😊❤️

      1. It would be really bad when it gets here. 😂

        1. It would be mostly mold by then 😂

          1. Yes! 🤭😂

  9. I would pay good money for those buns omg🤩. Everything looks delicious

    1. Aww thank you haha 😊

  10. I’ve hardly ever baked anything besides a ham at Christmas, but I’ve been meaning to start so this is inspiring 🤗

    1. This is definitely your sign to get into baking, it’s so fun 🤗

  11. Nothing better than bread (any type) home baked. The aroma of freshly baked bread is simply awesome. Well done you! I’m salivating!!! 😋

    1. For sure, the house smelling like a bakery all day is one of the best perks haha. Thank you so much! 😊

  12. 🙏🌹🫓

    Aum Shanti

  13. Home made bread is so good

    1. It is, the taste and flavour is so much better.

      1. Exactly 👍🏼

  14. ooh they look so good!!

    1. Thank you!!

  15. My dad once bought an oven, unfortunately it stayed unused for almost 3 years. He wanted someone who knew how to use it, not us. There was no woman around the house at that time, we knew how to cook but, the oven… hell no dad couldn’t allow that! He was a perfectionist, and it ended up collapsing.

    1. Oh no, sorry about that. Unfortunately, a lot of men from older generations have similar personalities.

  16. I appreciate your experience, which allowed us and you to discover all the qualities of homemade bread. Thank you for your photos; everyone should send you pictures of their homemade bread! Here, far from you, we make bread at home the way it has been made for hundreds and millennia—sourdough bread (the references are biblical). Sourdough starter is quite easy to obtain with flour and spring water, with a few days of patience. Then, it can be kept indefinitely for each new batch. It is the natural leavening agent that has unfortunately been replaced by baker’s yeast. Sourdough has health benefits because it makes gluten more easily digestible. Make an effort to rediscover the ancestral way of making bread, from sourdough pizza dough to a whole host of other delicious recipes. Everything will be different, with a wonderful taste, incredibly nutritious and digestible, and it will keep for several days. The key to fighting excess weight. Knowing how to bake your own bread brings harmony to the home. I’m delighted by your experience, which I hope will bring you much joy. My apologies for the translation.

    1. Thank you so much. Yeah, sourdough bread is great and especially the really fermented kind definitely has lots of health benefits too. No worries, I love hearing other people’s thoughts and experiences with baking.

  17. Nice! Homemade is always so much nicer than store bought.

When I graduated from Bibleschool in 2000, I bought a bread machine. I just poured the ingredients in and it did everything. Stirring, rising, cooking. It was great. Then it died and I just never replaced it.

Did you eat the buns plain or were they buttered or eaten with something?

    1. Thanks, it’s definitely way better! Ooh yes, those machine’s are great and can make the process easier. There’s lots of no-knead recipes you don’t need the machine for too though.

I had some with butter and made burgers out of some. 😀

  18. Homemade products like these are delicious. My dad did bread years ago. I think because he saw you could add beer.

    1. Haha yes, beer helps it rise well.

  19. Great job. But how about sending some my way

    1. Thank you. If I could, I totally would 😂

  20. Good for you for baking, and I love homemade bread. Just the smell of homemade bread is delicious! I don’t bake, but hubby makes scrumptious peanut cookies.

    1. Yes, it smells and tastes amazing! Ooh nice, peanut butter cookies sound so good.

      1. 😋💕

  21. Mmm, fresh baked bread. I love to eat a slice while it’s still warm and spread butter so that it melts. Not so healthy but oh so delicious!

    1. Not too healthy but so worth it haha, so delicious!

      1. Haha, right on!

  22. This is absolutely sick! You did so incredible! You’re totally going to be a pro at it in no time! 👏🏻🍞

    1. Aw thank you so much!! 😊

  23. Ummm…yummy 😋😋

    1. All very yummy 🤤

  24. Oh my!! You need to make another post and share these recipes! The breads look amazing!! I am almost finished with “Perfect,” and WOW, what a story!!

    1. I just saw your review on Amazon and Goodreads, absolutely made my day- thank you so much! Just started reading yours too 😊

  25. I used to bake. Took a home-ec class in high school. Baked bread in the wilderness, even. I stopped about 15 years ago–too much trouble. Time and ingredients. And baking for one is not that fun. It’s better for two, or more. Your breads look mighty tasty.

    1. Yeah, it’s more fun to share the baked goods. I think it would be hard to finish everything on your own too. I usually share it with the family.

Looks great. Usually if you make each bun the same size they cook up the same size. Glad you are enjoying baking. Everything looks great.

    1. Yeah, some were definitely a little larger from the get-go so they turned out different sizes haha. Next time I’ll make them equally. Thank you so much.

  29. Pooja! I love that you’re baking! I’ve made focaccia a couple of times, too and I was shocked at how well it turned out. Now I’m hungry! 😜❤️😜

    1. Thank you! That’s so cool, yeah focaccia is easier than it looks and the fresh homemade one is so delicious 🤤❤️

      1. 😜💝😜

  30. Congratulations on your baking! I’m not sure the different sizes aren’t all right since they might appeal to eater preferences. When I cooked for my family, I made cakes and cookies. I made mistakes but overall did okay. Happy creating and consuming!

    1. Thank you! Haha true, I think it worked out well that they were misshapen since everyone wanted a different size anyway. That sounds lovely, cakes and cookies are great.

  31. Yes I enjoy cooking and baking too.

    1. That’s great, they’re both fun.

  32. Looks good! 😋

  33. Wow!

This is an interesting post. I’m curious to know more.

I liked the baked food items. But yeah the products available in the market has low quality.
I see you are enjoying this new hobby of yours. Being foodie you know how to take care of yourself now.

Okay, I will learn this now.

    1. The presention is good too. In the longterm you can improve.

    2. Thanks so much, I agree the products in stores aren’t the same as homemade. These were much better quality and tasted better too.

  34. they all look yum, but the focaccia is my fav! 🙂

    1. Thank you so much! 🙂

  35. The bread looks delicious. It makes me think of my Grandmother’s homemade bread.

    1. Thanks so much. I saw your review on Amazon by the way, really made me so happy. Thanks again for that.

      1. You are welcome. Can’t wait for your next book.

        1. Already 10k words in with the next book, thanks so much 🙂

            1. Thank you!

  36. That’s so great! I’m not a good bread maker, that’s my hubs, but I’m more of a baked goods girl. Yours look amazing…was it relaxing?

    1. Ah okay, I don’t do baked goods I’m just into breads haha. Thank you, yes so relaxing and fun.

  37. Looks incredible, especially for a purported beginner!

    1. Thank you so much!

  38. oooh that sounds good.. Blair made Almond Cake yesterday with amazing ingredients and even let JuJu have a small piece. Imagine that! lol I don’t have the patience.. I’m impressed! 😉

    1. Ooh yum, that sounds so good too, I love almond anything really!

  39. I miss home made bread. I just love bread in general. I love cooking but don’t have the patience for baking for some reason.

    1. Yeah, bread is honestly the best. I could eat bread and butter all day. I used to be that way too but have somehow gotten super into baking these days.

  40. A wonderful new hobby to explore—baking has its own special magic, blending patience, creativity, and delicious rewards. 🍰✨

    1. Thank you so much, yes absolutely 😊

  41. Good for you, P.J.! Nothing like homemade bread, including the delicious scent. 😊

    1. For sure, it was so delicious and the house smelt amazing after! Thanks ☺️

  42. It says 5 days ago, Pooja…are you baking up a storm…😋lol…

    yummy…looks great…🤍🤗

    1. Haha something like that 😅💕

  43. “To be fair, I’ve only baked fairly easy things so far but still. Easier, than I assumed it would be”

That is absolutely the best way to start, that is exactly why you find it fun and approachable 👌😄. In baking, the basics matter alot and go a really long way the more you get into it.

I haven’t been much of a baker either but I remember making pizza and rock cakes as some of my most recent attempts and they actually came out great and were not that hard to make 👍😃😆. One of the best things about cooking/baking is being able to put whatever you want on stuff or add your own twist on things, so I am not done with baking 🎂🍪🥧, not by a long shot — this post inspired me to do even more of it until I am Michelin caliber 🥣👨‍🍳😄🫡

Speaking of which, your baking looks stupendously good and I have to congratulate you on your attempts 🍞🥪. The aroma is breaking through my screen — Pooja these look sooooo GOOOD!! 😹😹

    1. Agreed! I think it’s best to start out with easier things rather than with really complicated recipes. That’s how we learn and improve. Yes, definitely keep baking, I’m sure you’ll get there soon! Thank you so much ☺️💕

      1. Haha so true Pooja 💯💯. It’s awesome that we can make a countless variety of fun tasty baked goodies with just the basic techniques alone. Gradually people will develop a knack for the more complicated ones with time lol

Thank you for your lovely encouragement 🫶😄, I will definitely keep baking and just like yeast, I believe that you will #rise in the art of baking 💕💕🤗🥰

        1. Absolutely, with practice we get better and are able to make more complicated stuff too. Thank you, as will you 🤗🤗

          1. Couldn’t agree more P.J 🎯😸👍. Thanks for your lovely words of inspiration, I really appreciate that — I wish you a super Wednesday ❣️💌

            1. Always a pleasure, have an awesome day too 💗

              1. 💗 Likewise 💌🤗

  44. Your baked goods look fabulous, Pooja. The only difference between cooking and baking is that baking usually needs precise measurements. Both are so much better when made at home. Good for you!

    1. Thank you so much! Yeah, I think that’s right- with baking you have to be very precise.

  45. Ooh I LOVE foccacia! I made it in lockdown and it wasn’t perfect but it was still so tasty in the way that only homemade food can be! I don’t bake as much as I’d like to, I cook dinners a lot tho. The last thing I baked was a nutty banana bread 🍌. That made me smile about you not being able to go back to store bought bread, you’ve put a lofty expectation on yourself – better get in that kitchen again to live up to it! 🍞💕

    1. Yeah, it just tastes so much more fresh and delicious! Ooh that’s great, I love cooking too, probably more than baking lol but baking has been so fun recently as well. Hehe yessss, I’m actually make pizza stuffed buns next week! 😀💗

      1. Pizza stuffed buns sound like a real treat! Please do share how they turn out 😋
