Quest For Absence By Eve Marie Review

About The Author

Eve Marie was born in New York City and raised in a small town located in the Catskill Mountains where everyone knew your name. After graduating from Stony Brook University with an English degree, she spent several years working in Manhattan in the garment industry; as a real estate property appraiser with the city of New York and a girl Friday for local radio talk show host, Barry Farber, as well as a stint in the United States Navy. With a Masters Degree in TESOL (Teaching English to speakers of other languages) she has taught in the United States, France, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates.

For four years, my husband and I were the proud owners of Cupcake Cache (a small bakery) When writing, I like to reflect upon some of the people I knew and the places I have lived. When not writing, I can be found experimenting in the kitchen, walking my dog (Iago), or creating a ‘what if’ scenario for my next creative endeavor. Writers who inspire me include Stephen King, Edna Buchanan, Lee Child, Lisa Unger, and Ann Rule. My favorite quote for inspiration is “Everyone has two eyes but no one has the same view” (Wael Harakeh).

Book Summary

Continuing the exploits of Faith and Timothy from The Bayou Heist leaves the reader to wonder if life is like a card game. Is anything really random or can a good detective find the connections? Joan Baez once said, “As long as one keeps searching, the answers will come.” As they follow the clues, along the way, they must resolve the entwined mysteries and unanswered questions, taking the readers with them to the surprise conclusion!

My Thoughts On Quest For Absence By Eve Marie

Quest for Absence by Eve Marie

I met Eve Marie through WordPress as she’s a blogger here too. On this post, E. A Wickham reviewed both my novel and one by Eve Marie. Later, Eve Marie reached out and we ended up chatting. She’s wonderful and was kind enough to read my book as well as interview me for her blog. You can find the interview here. Although I was busy, I tried to make some time for reading and Quest For Absence by Eve Marie was one of the books I read recently.

I wasn’t sure what to expect as I hadn’t read any of her books before but this book actually ended up surpassing any expectations I had. The plot itself was fantastic, it had enough mystery to keep you wanting to read more but also had enough heartfelt moments that tugged on your heartstrings. The balance was truly perfect.

As for the mystery part, I made numerous guesses throughout the book as to what happened to the missing twin, who was involved, why they did it. But in the end, none of my guesses were correct. Which is impressive because I almost always guess correctly.

The writing was great, I didn’t notice any typos, grammar mistakes, or errors of any kind. The only problem I had was that she left it at a cliffhanger and the next book isn’t out yet lol! Can’t wait for the third book. Hopefully, it’ll be out soon.

What Stood Out To Me

What stood out to me were two things. The first were the characters, I very much enjoyed all of them. They felt realistic and although the book was in third person, I felt like I could put myself in their shoes. I particularly enjoyed Faith’s character, by the end of the book she had really grown on me.

The second was the twists and turns. This book kept me on my feet and even at the very end, it had me wanting to read more. Unfortunately, I will be forced to wait until the next book comes out but fingers crossed that will be soon. This book was one of the most immersive books I’ve read this year.

Overall

Overall, I very much enjoyed Quest For Absence by Eve Marie. I found it very easy to get into and follow. If I had been less busy I probably could have finished the book in a day. If you’re looking for a mystery that will keep you at the edge of the seat, do check this one out. Even when you think you know what’s happening, you don’t. The twists keep coming up to the very end.
