I had an intense yoga experience last week that I wanted to share about here. You may wonder why and it’s actually because this is my blog and I can share whatever I want to on it. Lol, just kidding. But before I share the experience you may need some backstory.
Backstory
I’m sure I’ve mentioned this before but this year I read The Body Keeps The Score and to say the book changed my life would be an understatement. I learnt so much about trauma and how it’s stored in our mind and body. One thing that’s encouraged is to reconnect with our body and let go of the stored trauma. Yoga is a great way to do this.
Then, I later read A Survivor’s Common Sense Approach to Recovery from Social Anxiety by Dr. Robert F. Mullen. That book encouraged me to leave my comfort zone and make new friends- which I did! My new friend and I were out to lunch last week and we talked about yoga (she has weekly sessions). It’s really benefitted her and I used to love doing yoga so this week I decided to get back into it and that’s when things got intense fast.
Present
The other night, I couldn’t sleep and decided to look up yoga poses that help release trauma and tried the very first one in the video. Instantly, I felt different. I felt this sense of anxiety and sadness building in my chest and before I knew what was happening I was in tears. And not just crying but weeping like a child. I cried for like 15 minutes or maybe even more but after I was done a lot of my stiffness from my hips and shoulders evaporated. It was like I had healed a decade of trauma in a matter of minutes. Am I brand new person? Nope, but I do feel a lot lighter.
I’ve done yoga before but never anything like this. A lot of people say they have similar experiences with certain poses but I assumed it was a placebo effect or something. I wouldn’t have believed it till it happened to me.
So, that was my intense yoga experience. Have you experienced anything like it? Should I share a video showing the pose I did on my YouTube channel? If you’re interested, let me know in the comments.
My first novel, Perfect, is now available on Amazon. If you would like to read it, please click here.
