My Thoughts On Tales From the Irish Garden: The Missing Pieces By Sally Cronin
I recently finished Tales From the Irish Garden: The Missing Pieces by Sally Cronin. And thought I would share my review of it. It was a lovely read filled with themes of love, grief, empathy and much more. I rarely read books that are of this genre in general and I doubt I will in the future but this was one I genuinely enjoyed reading because it was very well done.
The writing was clear, easy to follow, and I found no major issues with grammar, spelling, typos which made the reading experience more enjoyable. The story was simple although like all good stories it had its ups and downs. I enjoyed the plot and even more so enjoyed the characters which I felt I could very much connect with.
For those of you that may be interested in reading the book, keep in mind that this is the second book. The first is called Tales From The Irish Garden. However, I do believe that either can be read on its own too because although some aspects are continuations, the stories are easy to follow even when read separately.
What Stood Out To Me
I think what stood out to me most in this book were the themes. The major ones I picked up were grief, love for all living things, empathy, kindness, the importance of togetherness, and good over evil. Like the characters in this book, we all have a past. And we all have been through some difficulty or another in our life. Characters such as Lilah remind us of this. However, her story also reminds us that this is not the end of the road. Bad moments don’t have to define who we are forever.
At a time when so many people have a me-against-the-world sort of attitude, I think this book was a pleasant reminder of the importance of community and supporting one another. It also serves as a reminder that it is important to have empathy for others and treat them with kindness. You never know what someone is going through. You haven’t walked in their shoes. It’s best to approach people with kindness.
One more thing that stood out to me was that the book doesn’t just emphasise kindness and empathy towards people. It does what I love to see and reminds us to treat animals with kindness too. I loved seeing that in the book.
Overall
Overall, I loved Tales From the Irish Garden: The Missing Pieces. It was imaginative but held a lot of important lessons for younger and older people alike. I enjoyed the themes immensely. The characters were well written, the plot was great. And it isn’t too long of a book so I didn’t struggle to continue reading it at any point. I kept reading because I wanted to. And that for me is the sign of a good book written by a good writer.
If you are looking for an interesting next read or are a fan of fantasy or magic books, do consider picking this one up. I would strongly recommend it.
