I’ve really been recently thinking about this quote much more often than before. As I grow as a person and become more introspective, I’ve realised that I don’t want to waste my energy on or around people that don’t lift me. That have nothing positive to offer me. And are instead actually pulling me down with them.
Before, I couldn’t help myself and had a need to be liked. So I wouldn’t set proper boundaries and I would surround myself with people that don’t deserve my company. But recently, I’ve begun setting really strong boundaries with people and not backing down when they challenge me. That has helped me get rid of the people that were weighing me down. It’s like the trash took itself out for me.
