What I’ve Learnt From Blogging In 2022

I honestly cannot believe it is already almost 2023. It feels like 2022 just flew by. I think this year has gone by faster than any other year in my life. And I think a big part of it is because I had so much going on this year and there were quite a few ups and downs. I started working full-time online by offering services on my blog, I co-started a travel business with my sister, I changed my diet and lifestyle and so much more. But the biggest thing in my life this year has been blogging and that’s why I wanted to share what I’ve learnt from blogging in 2022.

As you may have noticed if you have been following me from the start of the year, I took some time off from blogging. I had blogged every day last year because it was a personal goal for me. And although I enjoyed it at first, it did also lead to burnout towards the end of the year because I had so much else going on at the time. I took January off and a bit of February and then came back to blogging with a lot more enthusiasm. And a plan on how I was going to run my blog this year.

I made a much bigger effort on my blog this year by making it SEO friendly, offering services, creating a new look for it and more. And I started blogging regularly and consistently. Thanks to that, I learnt quite a few things from blogging in 2022. Here are the main things I’ve learnt from blogging in 2022:

It’s Okay To Take Some Time Off

One thing I’ve learnt is that blogging is very time consuming and it can lead to burnout over time. And that’s why it’s best to take some time off now and again. I made sure to take some time to make memories and have some experiences. I created quite a few lifestyle posts this year because I took some time off whenever I could to go places and experience new things. So one of the biggest things I have learnt from blogging this year is that it’s actually a good thing to not blog sometimes. It helps you come back rejuvenated and excited to blog again.

Blogging Ain’t Easy

I know I make blogging look effortless but it’s actually really hard… Just kidding! I feel like a lot of people think blogging is really easy and it’s an easy way to make some extra money. I can tell you confidently that those people have never blogged because it’s quite the opposite. And the sad thing is that a lot of blogs that share content about blogging sort of further encourage these stereotypes by making it seem like it’s easy to make money blogging. Or to grow your audience.

The truth is, blogging is really more of a longterm venture. It takes a while to build your audience/followers. And on top of that you constantly have to keep coming up with new, fresh ideas for blog posts. So sometimes you end up phoning it in and writing some dumb post about things you’ve learnt from blogging in 2022… kidding! But it does take a lot of time, effort and energy to blog. Especially when you do it consistently.

It’s Important To Be There For One Another

We all know I’ve had my issues with WordPress, but one thing I love about this platform is how supportive everyone (almost everyone at least) is. I feel like we have a really wholesome community here. No matter what your new ventures are, what you blog about or who you are you will always find someone you can talk to here. And there will always be an audience for your blog. I think that’s something I want to do in my real world too. Support people and be there for them.

Be Yourself

Even if yourself is a weird purple alien…

What I am really thankful for more than anything when it comes to blogging is how it has allowed me to truly be myself. Not just in 2022 but in general. When I started blogging, I was just a confused teenager. And I was not in the best place with my mental health. But blogging allowed me to embrace who I really was. Before blogging I didn’t like who I was, what I looked like, my writing or really anything about myself. But thanks to WP I was able to find a group of people that liked my writing, appreciated my fine whining and gave me so many compliments. It was really great for my self-esteem and slowly I have grown more confident about myself. I could never have done that without blogging.

Conclusion

I hope you enjoyed this post about what I’ve learnt about blogging in 2022. And let me know in the comments what you’ve learnt from blogging this year. Or simply stop by and say hi!

  1. Blogging is very time-consuming and can certainly burn you out! I’ve been there and done that. Take a break as needed, your readers will understand and return when you do. 👍🏻

    1. I second what John said!

    2. I absolutely agree, breaks are necessary sometimes! 😊

  2. I’m with you. The community at WordPress is really uplifting. I seperated my WordPress from my other social media outlets pretty soon after I linked them because the other communities do not deserve to be linked with this one. I’ll just keep my rude people over there and my friends over here.

    1. Yeah WordPress is quite different from other platforms and especially social media. People I’ve met here have been much nicer and supportive.

  3. That was awesome. Thanks for sharing 🙏🏽

    1. Thanks so much for reading and commenting 😊

  4. I’ve learned alot from you. I am slowly growing over here.

    1. I’m glad you’re growing and that my posts are helpful.

  5. Oh, was I supposed to learn something? Well, darn! 🙂

    1. Girl, you had a lot going on outside of blogging! It’s all good!

    2. Not necessarily you can just have fun with it lol!

  6. These are great lessons to learn and share! I’m happy you have reached the levels you have and are sharing with others. I used to blog more often too, but found I was getting burned out trying to come up with quality posts. I found giving myself more breathing room to write works well for me. Happy Holidays to you and yours!

    1. Thanks so much. Yeah I think it’s okay to do whatever works for you. You would rather post quality content occasionally than content you’re not happy with daily. Happy Holidays!

      1. Yes, I’d much rather do that! Thanks!

        1. You’re so welcome!

  7. Yes, it’s okay to take time off and took some time off recently and I feel great.
However, I was continuously thinking of ideas and I am sure most of us do.
I started last year and I think I’ve started reading your work in may 🤔.
I come across your wonderful site last year, but back then I didn’t know that I’m supposed to engage and read your work regularly and we never interacted much, which is my fault actually. 🙇🏻‍♂️.
Coming back to 2022, so yes, I’ve learnt a lot from you about blogging. I know how much I’ve bothered you, through emails, through countless comments but you were always so helpful and humble. You did stared as confused teenager, but you are a strong and bold girl now(because word woman will make you sound old ).

About blogging being tough, so no it’s piece of cake. Writting blogs are so easy, you get up, write a blog in 2 mins and publish it, Boom , so easy. Then you get followers easily if you use 100 keywords in your blogs, use every damn word.
Yesterday, when I told someone that I love blogging, the face he made was telling as if he believes what I’ve said above. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Some people thinks that blogging is so easy, infact writing a 500 words article is so easy, that anyone can do it.
    .
I need to stop because I got carried away. 😅

    1. Absolutely, I always come up with so many ideas when I’m on a break lol.

I’m glad you engage now since I always enjoy chatting with you.

Haha if only blogging is that easy 😂

      1. I actually enjoy bothering you 🤪
I like to drop lengthy comments here and there, and yet you don’t miss them 🤷🏻‍♂️ 🤔😱
        Jokes apart
I have learnt a lot about blogging from you, and still learning.
Surprisingly, you never told these things on your blogs, but I’ve observed your work and adopted many things through it. You have made blogging very smoother for many bloggers, and those people who read your work regularly, knows that how much they have received from you.

        1. Haha your very lengthly comments are always welcome 😂
I’m so happy to hear that. Glad I’ve been able to help.

          1. I don’t know how much blogging pooja needed. But blogging definitely needs Pooja 😃
            Take care dear friend.

            1. I very much need it too!

  8. I agree with you. Break is a must.

    1. Yes, absolutely.

  9. Blogging isn’t easy at all, although I don’t post much, still I’ve been trying to post at least once a week.
I agree, it consumes time, efforts, and what not.
I hope you keep on enjoying this!
    Happy (almost) new year, Pooja😊

    1. Absolutely, it’s a lot of hard work for sure. Even if you post occasionally. Thanks and happy holidays!

  10. Take a break, relax, take your time and come back😊

    1. Yes, breaks are always best when needed 😊

  11. Hi Pooja,

It feels great to return back here.😃

I was about to come back on New Year.

    And the process begins…

I don’t want to miss — some really amazing blog posts, which are gonna be written in the last week of this year.

Now, let’s come to the blog posts —

It’s a well crafted and balanced “greeting card”, carring “a message of mutual understanding” between you and us, your readers).

    Thank you for sharing.
    Have a great weekend!

    1. So glad to see you back. Thanks so much and it’s a good idea to come back a bit earlier. I’m sure there are many posts being published that you’ll enjoy. Have a great weekend too!

  12. Hi! I have just started blogging. I am learning from your blogs. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

    1. Glad my blog posts are helping. Good luck on your blogging journey 🙂

  13. Even though you took a break in the beginning of this year, I think you’ve achieved things beyond expectations in the latter of 2022. Remember the article that you posted on that wellness website and imagine how many of us feel relaxing after reading your posts, six words story and specially your personal musings. So I guess it’s a win win year for you with these lessons. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!

    1. Yes, I’m glad I came back even more excited to write. I’m very happy with 2022 even though it started out early. And of course I am happy to have read so many great posts including yours. Happy Holidays!

      1. ‘Blogging allowed me to embrace who I really was.’ – I really related to that. This was one of the reasons I started blogging but I didn’t expect it to happen so soon. The only problem is that’s it’s drawing my attention to how fake I am in real life (eek! If you’ve had any experience with that I’d love to read about it). Merry Christmas! X

        1. I actually have had the same experience lol. Interesting post idea, maybe I’ll share something about my experience with that. Merry Christmas!

  14. Your gifs are always so interesting!

    1. Thanks, glad you enjoy them!

  15. One thing I’ve learnt from blogging is the same as one of the things you said. It’s okay to take a break for yourself because yes, blogging is time-consuming.

    1. Yes, absolutely it’s okay to take some time away from blogging.

  16. “I know I make blogging look effortless” – YESSSS YOU DO!!!! You put me to shame!!! 😛
And yes, being there for each other is very important. I only survived this year in the blogosphere because of my blogging friends. Thanks for being there! Truly! 🙂
Also, I am stealing this blog post idea!

    1. Haha thank you!! 😅

I absolutely agree, blogging friends are so wonderful and I am thankful for that. Lol of course you’re welcome to steal it 😜

  17. What a great post and so true the community here can be so supportive, assisting with confidence and motivation. There have been so many blogs which have assisted me with tips (including yourself) to help my blogging journey this year. I also think it is very common to underestimate the challenge with writing regularly, particularly where a big part of your content is factual, (including myself). Taking a break can be needed. In the spirit of taking a break I hope you, friends, and family, have an amazing Christmas period 🤶

    1. Yes, I have found that about the community too. I agree, it’s quite difficult always coming up with topics to write about. Happy Holidays and have a great Christmas!

      1. Thanks so much and same to you 🤶:)

        1. Thanks 🎄

  18. Agreeing with you 👍🏼 blogging actually needs effort. And it takes time to build up followers. Also, it is quite difficult to come up with new ideas as well. It really needs time 😌

    1. Yes, it is quite time consuming but consistency is key. It’s a bit of a catch-22 😅

  19. I am new to blogging. I choose it to make virtual friends and to learn more/experience more and blog about it. Gotta be honest, I’ve tried blogging in the past and it didn’t work out and I fear this venture will be the same. I will say, though, this is my first blog on WordPress and the tools they have available makes it much easier to meet other bloggers. So I’m not sure where this journey will take me, but do know I’m suppose to be here right now.

    1. I used to be on Blogger but didn’t enjoy it at all because of the lack of community. And a few years ago I joined WordPress and it ended up being perfect for me. I made a lot of friends here and have enjoyed my time so far. I’m glad you’re here and hope you continue blogging as long as it feels right.

      1. Yes! Blogger and you are exactly right! No community!!! Having the Reader functionality on WordPress has been a true blessing. And I love reading blog posts of others…especially from other countries. Seeing beautiful pictures of places I’ve never seen has opened my eyes so much. I’m right where I belong. ❤️

        1. So glad to hear that, yes the Reader is one of the best features!

  20. Great post once again Pooja!! I absolutely agree that blogging is by no means easy and taking that time for yourself is certainly beneficial just like in any other profession or hobby and I also agree WP is a fantastic platform to met such wonderful likeminded people which also gives me encouragement to keep blogging when sometimes I simply just don’t feel like it . I really your content and look forward to reading in 2023 and hope that you and the family have a blessed Christmas

    1. Thanks! I agree, blogging is quite difficult and breaks help keep us motivated. Thanks and I wish the same for you and your family.

  21. I am glad you give yourself permission to take a break. I do the same but I miss it also. I also feel guilty that I get busy and don’t keep up to date on the blogs I like to follow like yours. I have to let go of that and accept that I can’t do everything and set priorities. Congratulations on your travel business. I wish you success in 2023!

    1. Yes, I always take a break when necessary. I find that it keeps me motivated. I completely understand, life gets busy and blogging can’t always be a priority. Thank you so much, and in case we don’t talk before 2023, have a very happy new year.

      1. You too! I am glad we chat from time to time.

        1. Same here, it’s nice to keep in touch.

  22. Thank you for this post. I appreciate your honesty. And I enjoy the humor thrown in. Keep up the good work.

    1. Thanks so much, really appreciate your content.

  23. I’m so glad I have been following you throughout this year! Happy Holidays!

    1. I’m glad I’ve been following you too! Happy Holidays!

  24. I agree with all of those and I still remember the days when you took a break. And when you eventually emerged, I was really happy to see you again. I think that’s the early part of this year. And probably taking cues from you, I disappeared for two months too, trying to experiment with not having WP for a while. And I almost thought I just gave up, but somehow I still came back. LOL. I don’t know. Some invisible force is doing a trick probably…

    1. I remember when you took a break too and I’m very glad you came back as well. I guess this is where you and I are supposed to be right now.

  25. Since I started my blog in 2022, I have learned a lot. Especially how hard it is. Your posts have taught me a lot. I still have a lot to learn and I hope 2023 is a better year. I enjoy the writing but life can get in the way sometimes. I’m still trying to find my way with everything, but I never give up.

    1. Yeah blogging can be difficult and like you said life gets in the way sometimes. But it’s also a lot of fun and very worth it.

  26. Don’t forget you also had that dreaded cough, too. I hope to do an end of the year post with a bit about blogging too. Good post.

    1. Oh yes, that really sucked. I will definitely be doing a post like that.

  27. True that the WordPress community is very supportive, unlike social media platforms. I agree that blogging is not as easy as many people think. It takes time, energy, and a lot of thinking to blog. Also, as you said, we should take some time off from blogging when requires.

    1. Yes, blogging is very time consuming. But also fun. Thanks for commenting.

  28. Love this post! It’s true that blogging is definitely harder than it seems but it is also really rewarding, and the community is lovely! Taking a break is always necessary at times, and it also what helps us get some motivation back!

    1. Yes, it’s so much harder than it seems but also very worth it!

  29. I am a beginner to blogging. Thanks for sharing your views.

    1. Happy to do so. Good luck on your blogging journey.

  30. This is beautiful, more also the last point. Am happy for you😊❤️

    1. Thanks so much 😊

  31. Have read most of your contributions on the this platform. You have been consistent and regular .I truly agree that blogging is not easy as it is time consuming.

    1. Thanks. Yes, it’s quite time consuming and difficult but it can also be a lot of fun.

  32. Pooja, you do an amazing job with your blog posts on here and you have great tips. I am more of a fiction writer on my substack platform but I know how much time and creativity it takes to write a post. And when you have people leave comments on your work, I agree that it helps out tremendously. It lets us know that our hard work is being read and appreciated. Keep up the good work and may God bless you in the new year.

    1. Thanks you so much. Yes, comments really make me feel appreciated and I am sure most bloggers feel that way. Have a great and prosperous 2023.

  33. hard to imagine you have been blogging that long. It’s commendable what you had done creating a business out of your blogging and all!~. It is a lot and breaks are truly imperative.. i’m with you!!!💗

    1. I know, it’s been longer than I thought! 💕

      1. you should be at least like 55 with those numbers.. lol 🤣

        1. Lol I secretly may be 😂

  34. Breaks turn into forgetting you even have a blog at times.

    1. Yes, that does happen sometimes when the break lasts too long.

  35. Thank you for your honesty about blogging and your humour. I’m new to blogging and as a person in a different stage of life to you, I really appreciate how similar our journeys with this platform are. Who knew?

    1. Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, it’s like a little community here and so many of us have had similar experiences with blogging.
