Take A Deep Breath

Take A Deep Breath

A world full of anxieties

A million things to do

Not a minute of silence

Not a minute of rest

Breathless

Cold sweats

Hands shaking

Can’t breathe

Head spinning

Can’t breathe

Knees buckling

Can’t breathe

Head pounding

Can’t breathe

Take a deep breath

Calm down

It’s going to be okay

It’s always going to be okay

You can do this

It’s no secret that I have anxiety. And I’ve had a particularly anxiety filled day. I literally woke up and it’s been like one thing after another that I’ve had to deal with. And it’s now the end of the day. It’s almost 1am right now. I sort of got through the day but now the anxiety is kicking in more and I’m having cold sweats. And more than anything I just needed to remind myself to breathe.

So, I wouldn’t say “Take A Deep Breath” is really a proper poem. I wouldn’t even say it’s a good poem lol. It’s pretty much just me dumping my feelings and thoughts and reminding myself to take a deep breath and calm down. It’s never as bad is we think. And even if it’s worst case scenario, it’s not the end. Once you’ve hit rock bottom, you have no where else to go but up, right?

Have you ever experienced an anxiety attack or a panic attack? How do you calm yourself down when you’re feeling anxious out? Do you practice breathing exercises? Let me know in the comments because I would love to hear from you. Or simply stop by and say hi!

  1. Pooja, I have been taking a medication for a few years now that helps me stay calmer, more relaxed. I tried to stop taking it several months ago but in about three days I just didn’t feel like myself so I resumed taking the med. Maybe some kind of medication will help you feel more at ease. ❤️

    1. Pooja, this is excellent advice. There’s no shame in needing medication. You do what you need to in order to be able to have a more manageable life. Blessings to each one reading this!

      1. Thanks! I tried multiple medications but none of them suited me unfortunately. However, my therapist has taught me some stuff to help me cope with the anxiety. Like when this happened, I did some breathing exercises and felt much better!

      2. Hey, just wanted to let you know that I left a comment on your latest post but I think it went to spam so check your spam folder!

    2. I tried medication too but none of them worked well for me. I tried multiple types but none of them worked. For now, my therapist has given me some methods I can use to calm myself down. And CBD oil helps a lot too. I think I just had a particularly stressful day but I used some breathing techniques which helped a lot. Thanks so much ❤️

      1. You are welcome Pooja, I’ve never tried that oil.

        1. I wouldn’t recommend it to someone who has high BP as it can cause issues with your blood pressure sometimes.

          1. I have never heard that about this oil. You may already know that I have trouble daily with my BP. Sucks!

            1. Yeah, I remembered that you had mentioned the BP issue which is why I wanted to give you a heads up! I would definitely recommend talking to a doctor before starting CBD oil because I have read about it causing issues for people with high BP.

              1. Thank you so much, Pooja! You are a wonderful friend. 🥰☺️

                1. You’re so welcome and so are you! 😊

                  1. ❤️❤️☺️☺️

                    1. ❤️🥰

  2. I really needed to read this. I fell ill last week and not for nothing I can shake the feeling of being unwell. Work is a bunch of never ending deadlines and I have three work related courses all happening at once. Then add the mix of everything else that is happening in my personal life, I feel like I cannot breathe. Last night and this morning I had to do deep breathing exercises to try and calm my anxiety. Doesn’t solve it, but it helps just a little.

    1. I’m so sorry to hear that. I know, it’s really tough when you have so much going on and your health isn’t so good. Breathing exercises definitely help a bit. I would also recommend trying chamomile tea as that’s been helpful for me.

  3. I listen to relaxing music.

    1. Music definitely helps a lot.

  4. Ohh I get them all the time. I had a close friend who used to help me during those specific attacks but now I’m on my own so….. You got the idea, right?

    1. Sorry to hear that, I really hope things get better for you soon.

  5. Pooja, I thought it was a great poem! It made me read it quickly with it’s sense of urgency… I do deep breathing exercises. The trick is to empty your mind of all thoughts. It does calm you if you do it for a n hour or so. I hope this helps! Poor dear! Are you OK?

    1. Thanks so much! I do breathing exercises too and it’s been helpful when I’m starting to get anxious. I usually do some meditation and breathing exercises for about half an hour or sometimes more. I’m much better today, thanks. I think yesterday was just particularly stressful for me.

      1. Hmmm… Backtrack what you did to cause this. Then, don’t do it again!

        1. I think it was more like life just really kicked me in the guts 😅

  6. I loved the poem! It really puts panic attacks on focus. I suffer from anxiety rarely but when I do deep breathing helps me. Good luck!

    1. Thanks so much! I’m much better today.

  7. I hope you feel better soon.
    Take care dear 🤗

    1. I was fine after the breathing exercises. Thanks so much 🤗

      1. Ahh great!!!
        Take care
The cover pic, is that you?

        1. Lol no, it’s some random image I found 😅

          1. I really thought that was you 😛

            1. I look nothing like that?? 😅

  8. I know how you feel. It can be consuming. I’m sorry today was shit. I hope you get some sleep and that tomorrow is better.

    1. Thanks so much. Yeah, today has been much better.

    2. Hey, just wanted to let you know that I left a comment on your latest post but I think it went to spam so check your spam folder.

  9. Another day, just believe, another day, just breathe… You got this!

    1. That’s exactly what I’ve been telling myself and it’s making me feel much better!

  10. sorry you had to have such a day.

    take care, Pooja ✨🤍🤗

    1. That’s okay, it happens. Thanks so much 🤗

      1. most welcome, dear Pooja🤍

  11. Sending you warm hugs my friend. You’ve got very good advice in the above comments.

    1. Thanks so much, really appreciate it.

      1. You’re most welcome

  12. I had a period of anxiety following a lengthy health concern and it was troubling considering I’m usually a positive person. The doctor introduced me to a book that went into the psychology of that condition which I read with interest at the time and practiced its findings and outcomes. Its all in the mind and one needs to have a mind reset. Unfortunately I had to hand the book back and have forgotten the title but the general principle is we have to retrain our mind. Within a brief time of retraining away from imagined fears I’m back into my usual positive outlook.

    1. Thanks for sharing your experience. Sorry you went through that and so glad you’re better now. I agree, I think your mindset really matters and changing how you view things helps a lot.

  13. There is nothing wrong in opening up and sharing your feelings. It helps you to calm down, so take care xo !!

    1. I absolutely agree, thank you!

  14. Pretty much my day!

    1. Hope it gets better today!

  15. When I feel anxious, I find deep breathing exercises really helpful. Just taking a moment to focus on my breath helps me ground myself and find some relief.

    1. I’ve been doing breathing exercises too and they’re really helpful. It helps us refocus and stop our brain from overworking itself.

      1. Yes, breathing exercises are truly relaxing

  16. I don’t know how to deal with anxiety and I don’t know if anyone does. Some people just have busier lives than others lol. Medication always made me act like an idiot because you need SOME anxiety to keep you from making stupid decisions. There’s a such thing as too much though and thats where I live too.

    You’re not alone boo! 🫶

    1. I had the same issue with medication. I just ended up feeling numb and it sucked so much. Like you need some anxiety and emotions to function. What helps me is journalling and breathing exercises. I mean, the anxiety never fully goes away but this helps.
      Thanks 🤗

      1. Anxiety is just a consequence of being intelligent unfortunately 😅

        1. In that case, I must be a genius with the way my anxiety acts sometimes 😅

  17. dizzy head
    much dread
    cold hot sweat
    shit floor
    fecal more
    tmi
    oh me
    oh my~

      1. oh these cheap red meatz ms gupta.

        1. Try adding more fruits and veggies to your diet…

  18. Yes, I hear ya, anxiety is such a terrible thing to live with… I find something I can focus on that I can see and describe it to myself in my mind while counting my breaths…. It does calm me! I have found this past year though that I need this less and less as my anxiety is easing… Mindfulness, in focusing on the present moment I am living, greatly helps to limit my anxiety on a daily basis. I have learned how to control my thinking more, especially negative thinking. I get up every morning these days and remind myself I am still here, might as well get as much out of my day that I can get!! I am greatly enjoying being Retired these days!!

    1. It’s true, breathing exercises help a lot. I started doing them when I’m feeling more anxious and it really helps calm me down. Glad you’re enjoying your retirement!

  19. Pooja, your poem is so apt. I used to have anxiety attacks when I was younger but they subsided as I got older. I feel my anxiety was mostly related to my job not knowing what was going to happen next. I worked in insurance and back then jobs were plentiful and secure. However, like anything else changes in ideas and some unwise decisions took its toll. I survived many layoffs before I finally retired.

    1. Thanks so much. It’s true, work can cause stress and anxiety for many people. And I can’t imagine working in insurance was easy especially when layoffs were happening. Glad to hear you’re more relaxed now since you no longer have to worry about work.

      1. You’re welcome, Pooja. I consider myself lucky to be one step ahead of the game.

  20. I’ve been experiencing anxiety the past three days, but I’m chalking it up to the grieving process since my mother died. I spent an hour in meditation this morning and it helped tremendously.
I have a beautiful, happy,, healthy life, but death is one thing we don’t have control over.
In many ways we just have to not fight it and just go with it. It does get better.

    1. Sorry to hear you’ve been experiencing anxiety too. It’s tough when you’re grieving the loss of a parent. But glad meditation is helping. And true, with death we can’t fight or control it. We just have to live our best life and be ready for death.

  21. Your poem says it all, Pooja. I don’t have any such experience so I will refrain from giving any advice. Please take care of yourself. 🧁

    1. Thanks so much, I’m much better today. 😊

Very educational poem on what people with anxiety attacks go through,The comments were helpful also. Hopefully I’ll be able to help someone who’s going through it have a better day.

    1. Thanks so much and yes many of the comments were beneficial.

  23. I guess I’m in the minority. Breathing exercises don’t really help me, they make me focus on the panic itself. I double my meds. Makes my brain foggy and sleepy. Works for me but I don’t recommend to anybody. I feel like a ghost lol

    1. Oh I’m sorry to hear that. I felt the same way with meds so I stopped taking them. I just felt numb and foggy all the time. Hope you find something that helps and doesn’t make you feel too bad.

      1. Aww, thank you!

        1. My pleasure!

  24. Loved the poem Pooja. It really captures what a true panic attack is like.
I’ve had my share of panic attacks and my only remedy during those moments is taking in deep breaths.

    1. Thanks so much. Absolutely, deep breaths can really help decrease anxiety and is what helps me most during panic attacks too.

  25. Take a deep breath, it really is going to be okay! Btw it is a good poem 😊.

    1. Thanks so much! 😊

  26. I can relate to your feelings Pooja, though I’ve never been through such an intense state of anxiety. Irrespective of the poem’s poetic merits, it beautifully captures the overwhelming nature of anxiety. Many can relate to the feeling of being breathless in a world full of anxieties.

When anxiety overtakes us, techniques like deep breathing and mindfulness can really help. Taking slow, deep breaths can signal your body to relax, reducing the physical symptoms of anxiety. Additionally, reminding ourselves that things will be okay and seeking support from loved ones can provide comfort during difficult times.

Stay strong and take care of yourself.!

    1. Thank you so much. I very much agree, deep breaths can really help. These days I can stop an anxiety attack before it happens with deep breathing exercises.

      1. Good to know that you have devised a way to handle anxiety.

  27. yeah anxiety is tough, used to have it often, especially being anxious over the future. But breathing and some calm music/sounds does help. While it seems like there is no end in the moment, things will get better, you just have to be there to see it. And this what poetry is at times, dumping out your feelings and thoughts, its how I started writing and eventually got into poetry/spoken word

    1. Thanks so much. I agree, poetry really helps us dump out those negative feelings and also process them better.

  28. Hugs. Glad to see in the comments that you are feeling a bit better. This song by Anna Nalick is not about anxiety, but I find it somehow soothing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcvXr-9XtgA

    1. Thanks so much, will definitely check out the song.

  29. Sorry to hear you had a bad day. Hope things work out.

    1. Thanks so much. I’m much better today.

  30. This is so funny, the timing! I just learned about how to deep breathe today at PT for another anxiety-related issue. Since I am a singer, I already knew how to breathe from my diaphragm (make your belly button expand more than your chest and don’t raise your shoulders!) but my therapist taught me to instead expand the diaphragm down more than out. It’s amazing for relaxation!

    1. Wow, what an interesting coincidence. That’s amazing and yes it helps so much in calming our body down.

  31. Unfortunately, I know well what anxiety is. And that sometimes that breath means everything.
I have to underline these encouraging words of yours – “Once you’ve hit rock bottom, you have nowhere else to go but up, right?”
    Take care, dear Pooja! 🌸

    1. I’m sorry you experience anxiety too and yeah breathing helps so much.
I’m glad that resonated with you!

  32. I see you got lots of good feedback. I was happy to just read on your most recent post that you are taking a much needed breather. No need to respond. Just take care of yourself.

  33. Funny that I experienced a mild panic attack today. Reading your post made me feel a lot better about what went down. Life is crazier than ever. I haven’t got the time to work on my blog these days and it sucks! Well, I’ll remember to take a deep breath next time!

    1. Sorry to hear you experienced that and I’m so glad the poem helped you feel better. Yeah, life sucks sometimes but take a deep breath because things do get better over time!

  34. Anxiety 😣
It’s an excellent poem, yes, a poem.
    And you’re right, breathe.
There’s so much good and/or better waiting for you out there somewhere or around you anywhere. Keep on, Pooj. Hope you got hold of your therapist.

    1. Thanks so much 😊
I did and had a great first session. I hope to go back soon.

  35. Having anxiety attacks for me is bad. I have had to go to the hospital many times because they were so bad. My heart races and I can’t really catch my breath, and that’s the scary part. After it’s all said and done, I am literally drained and tired. That’s why I try to stay calm and avoid things that I know will trigger them. I believe that it’s different for some, but for me it takes me a while to calm down. I am so glad I started meditating. It helps me a lot.

    1. Wow, that’s really scary. Mine are not that bad but they leave me drained too. Meditation and breathing exercises definitely help.

  36. I liked the poem and yes I deal with anxiety as well. Breathing and self-talk helps me to calm down most of the time. But while going through a bad panic attack, it is very scary. You feel as though the walls are crumbling down on you and you can’t stop it. My heart would pound out of my chest, everything would tense up, and sometimes feel sick. Thankfully though I have not had one of those attacks in a long time. I hope the days get better for you Pooj.

    1. Thanks so much. Sorry you struggle with anxiety too. It can definitely be scary when we’re going through it.

      1. Most definitely

  37. Anxiety can be a terrible thing. I can relate. Sometimes taking time to notice what’s around you can help.

    1. Thanks and yeah that helps to ground us when we’re anxious.

    1. Thank you

  38. Anxiety is dreadful.. I find essential oils and breathing are the best antidotes.., hope you are moving through it Pooja💗

    1. They’ve both helped a lot so definitely agree! 💕

  39. Yes, Pooja, coincidentally I experienced a little attack, which I think was triggered by a non-responsive person. I just suddenly started to imagine all kinds of things, which are just my anxiety speaking. I am thinking of writing it into a story today. LOL. Thank you for the post and thank you for sharing your thoughts.

    1. So sorry you experienced that, would definitely read that story so hope you share it. Happy to do so and glad it was relatable. In those moments we just need to take a deep breath and relax our mind.

  40. I loved the poem. Very real. 👍

    1. Thank you so much 😊

  41. I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned this for anxiety, but I use L-Theanine (an amino acid), that helps with stress. It won’t “cure” anxiety, but does take the edge off when I’m having a day which could turn me into a ball of anxiety. As for medication, I read further up the thread that you’ve tried multiple medications but they didn’t help. Have you ever tried a DNA test to determine which might work better for you? A friend of mine who dealt with depression/anxiety was on a roller coaster of meds until she tried this. Maybe it would help you? https://genesight.com/product/ All the best to you, Pooja!

    1. That’s all really interesting information. Thanks so much for sharing it. I don’t know if I have this sort of tests available in my area but I’ll look into it. And I’ll look into L-Theanine too. Thanks again!

      1. You’re very welcome, hope you find relief, Pooja! Anxiety is difficult, I know having dealt with it all my life.

        1. Yeah, it’s really tough but thanks.
