Sharing A Mental Health Related Guest Post

Today I decided to share a mental health related guest post. I am sure some of you are familiar with Carol Anne’s blog Therapy Bits here on WordPress. Well, she wrote this guest post to introduce herself. I hope you read it and check out her blog. I always want to support those writing about mental health and mental health related topics and I would love it if you consider doing the same.

Guest Post:

Hi! My legal body name is Shirley.  That was my birth name, but Shirley is rarely around these days. Why is that, you may ask?

Well, as a very young child, Shirley experienced abuse which took many forms, this abuse was done at a boarding school for the blind.

It took the form of ritualistic, sexual, emotional, and psychological.

Because of all the abuse, we split, and alters/insiders formed, to help Shirley to cope with the unimaginable.

And it is I, Carol Anne, one of the alters writing this post now.

We were unofficially diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder in 2001. But we got an official diagnosis in 2010.

This illness isn’t an easy one to live with.  It is a very misunderstood condition.

We are many, many ages, with different names, likes and dislikes, emotions, etc.

We are  currently in therapy with a wonderful trauma specialist since 2012, and we also have an amazing psychiatrist who we’ve been seeing since 2013.

They’ve both helped us in so many incredible ways! We are so thankful to them for helping us along on our healing journey!

And we feel that we’ve come a long way since those early days of diagnosis, we understand ourselves a lot more now, and for us, that is a true blessing!

We hope our story might inspire some to know that there is always hope, even in the depths of darkness.

  1. I will check out their work for sure.

Tbh, I have less knowledge about dissociative identity disorder. So I won’t comment about that here.
On media, tv, movies it is shown in a wrong way and it’s made fun of. Which is a bad thing.

Thanks for talking about this and sharing it. I will learn about it and will check out the blog as well.

  14. Thank you for letting her write her article on your blog. I never knew that about mental health. I have learned something new. I have heard of people having split personalities, but I never heard of this type of mental health issue. It’s good that she is getting the help she needs. If there are others going through any kind of mental disorder, I pray that they will get the help they need as well. It was very brave of her to share her story. Have a wonderful weekend.
