Abraham Maslow Quote about growth

What’s Up With Pooj?

Not much up with me recently… Just kidding, of course there is but mostly because I’m melodramatic. Anyway, last week I was really busy with my book and didn’t even have time to post much on here. So, as a treat at the end of the week my cousin brothers and I decided to go to dinner and visit the first ever vegan fair in Kenya! And the second one held in East Africa. It was incredible and expect a post about it very soon.

In other news, I finally watched Saltburn and although I loved it, I do understand why so many people either love or hate it. I feel like it’s definitely not for everyone. But if you’re a fan of psycho-thrillers (or Jacob Elordi lol), I would really recommend it. It’s so artsy and uniquely made. I feel like there hasn’t been too much originality in this genre recently but the last two years is bring it back.

What I’m Listening To Right Now

I love The Smiths and listened to them a lot as a teenager but sort of forgot about them as an adult. However, I remembered how much I used to enjoy this song and started listening to them again. This song is so relatable to me as a chronic people pleaser.

  1. Hi there! <3 I hope the book is coming along nicely! We've missed you on here! Sending a big hug and lots of love!

    1. Aw, thanks so much! Yes, the book is going great so far and sending hugs your way too!

  2. Hey Pooj, good to have you back. Family is always fun to hang out with.
The quote is kind of implying that growth is not safe lol I choose to grow safely if possible 🙂 anyways, last weekend we went cross country skiing and watched a movie about Freud and CS Lewis at the theatre. both activities were not super safe cause skiing is a sport and theatres are full of people coughing and sneezing, based on the quote I chose to risk, I chose growth. it was fun too

    1. Lol, I think it’s more so just about getting out of your comfort zone 😅 That sounds like fun minus the coughing and sneezing. Growth is great and glad you had fun.

      1. The only thing I sore all over, totally out of practice

        1. Oof that sucks but it’s part of the experience I get lol

  3. I love the quote. I’m so happy you are working on your book. However, we miss your musings on here. I don’t know if I loved “Saltburn” but, it was very well made. I should review it on my blog but, I give too much away.

    1. Thanks so much, I always miss you guys when I take breaks from blogging too. Yeah, I feel like Saltburn is so artistically made but it’s definitely weird too. Yeah, you should review it and maybe have a spoiler alert warning.

  4. Ahh glad to know that.

I haven’t heard of that movie. I only watch stuff if it’s available on Netflix 😜

I watched railway men, it’s based on Bhopal gas leak( if you are aware of that)

I’m glad you are managing time for blogging while being busy. Plus, going out is a bonus

    Take care dear friend 🤗

    1. Yeah, I think this one is on Prime or something so not on Netflix.

Thanks so much. Yes, I have heard of that, sounds interesting.

      1. No Netflix and chill for me 😛

        Interesting?
        It’s painful 😣
As it’s based on true events, it’s very painful to watch

        1. Oh no, that’s sad. This is why I don’t watch stuff based on true events.

          1. You should!!

            This was good
It tells a lot about our past

            You had history as subject.
You should know about it bud. It was horrific, people were clueless and helpless.

            1. Yeah, I’ll definitely check it out.

  5. The quotation by Maslow is good. Growth is key in his thinking, overall. I’m glad you’re making progress with your book–and you got to take part in the special festival. I just got back from a trip to Pittsburgh (a couple hundred miles from here) where I picked up a car that had belonged to my brother. My car had been totaled while it was parked in front of my building. Sad and helpful timing.

    1. Thanks so much, it’s been a good week. Oh no, sorry about your car but glad you could borrow your brothers and didn’t have to cancel the trip. Hope you had a great time in Pittsburgh.

  6. Greet quote. Good reminder to seize the day and keep pushing.
Good to see you! Looking forward to the posts on the fairs!

    1. Thanks so much!

  7. The quote is great. Just remember both choices are valid.

    1. Thank you so much and yes, I agree.

  8. The quote resonated with me. I loved the video. The one line that caught my ear was about kicking someone in the eye. Inquiring minds would like to know who you would kick in the eye. 🙂

    1. It’s funny because that’s my favourite line from the song. I can think of a number of people who I would rather kick in the eye but I’ll keep smiling for now haha. Glad you enjoyed the quote and the video.

      1. Have you ever considered the diplomatic corps? 🙂

        1. I have, I feel like it would be the best job for me…

  9. Hmmmm….😉 step forward or back? Depends on the day.. 🤪
    Yayyyy on your book!!!
Nice tune … “why do I smile when I’d rather kick then in the ???? couldn’t make that out.. he can hit the high notes alright❣️

    1. Haha true, depends on the day and circumstances 😅

So glad you enjoyed it, I think the line is “why do I smile when I’d rather kick them in the eye” 😅

      1. totally agree on that..

        Great line for sure❣️

  10. Interesting quote

    1. Thank you so much.

      1. Welcome

  11. My two cents worth.
“There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio,/Than are dreamt of in your philosophy” (Hamlet, 1.5. 165–66).”

We are propelled forward in life whether we intend or pretend it is our choice, especially during pivotal transitions. Our courage is manifested in accepting that whatever becomes of us is a necessity that extends beyond our mortal understanding or dreams.

    1. I quite like that quote, it’s quite accurate. At least according to my beliefs.

It’s true. Personally, I think we don’t control life and life happens whether we like it or not. Sometimes we don’t know why something is happening but it’s all a part of the greater plan. All we can do is our best.

      1. Mine too. Glad you enjoyed it.

If we had as much control as we thought, we wouldn’t have no where near the problems. imo

        1. Yup, that’s what I think too.

  12. This is true. One has to step out of our comfort zone to grow.

    1. That’s exactly it, we need to get out of our comfort zone even if it’s just a little if we want to grow.

      1. Indeed 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

  13. True indeed with a nice quote, thanks.

    1. Thanks so much.

  14. So true. If you don’t get out of your comfort zone, take risks and go for it, you don’t grow; you stagnate.
We watched Saltburn last week. A great film but I found it very disturbing.

    1. Yeah, that’s exactly how I feel too. You need to leave your comfort zone to grow.
Yup, it’s so well made but so disturbing too!

  15. Stepping back into safety is technically stagnating, and since time is passing and everything is still moving and changing, stagnating actually means falling behind. Too much of that state, and I don’t even think that would create comfort but rather constraints in your process of growth. It’s only comfortable and permissible for a little while until the distance between your goals and where you are is almost too far to cross anymore.
I love hearing updates about your book, by the way! 😀

    1. That’s true. Stagnancy is a real problem because like you said the world keeps spinning but you’re stuck. And yeah, it feels good to stay where you are but over time you fall behind and you stop feeling as comfortable.

      Thank you! ☺️

  16. Just slogging through the winter here in the Midwest! Is it spring yet??? 😁

    1. It’s okay, just a few more weeks don’t worry! 😊

      1. 38 days ’til meteorological spring!!!

A & J PEI Treasures/E Jean Simpson, BEd, BA, MA

    Neat quote.

    1. Glad you enjoyed it.

  18. The quote is thought-provoking, and I love it! I am glad your book is coming along, Pooja.

    1. Thanks so much, so glad you enjoyed the quote. Thank you 😊

  19. great quote!
im starting to feel like im moving forward in my life and it feels amazing!
thats so exciting can’t wait for you to share that post!
i was always listening to the smiths back in my high school-college days and only listen to them now when im in my feels or kind of want to dance, along with songs from The Drums! love them!

    1. Thanks!

That’s so great. I’m so glad you feel like you’re moving forward. It’s so important to not get stuck where you are!

Same here, I used to listen to them so much but less often now. Ooh yes, love them too!

  20. a great quote well said.
good to see you back and glad you coming along well with your book, Pooja 🤍

    1. Thanks so much, happy to be back and hopefully I’ll be posting much more often now 😊

      1. 🤍🌹🤗

  21. A vegan fair anywhere sounds fantastic! How fun that you attended the first in Kenya. The Smiths! 🎶🙌🏻 Best wishes with your book progress.

    1. It was so fun and this was my first ever vegan fair so even more exciting. I’m so glad veganism is catching on here. Thank you! 🥰

      1. You’re very welcome, Pooja. I am glad to read you had a great time. 😊🙌🏻

        1. I did, thanks ☺️💕

  22. Lovely quotes 👌

    1. Thank you so much ☺️

  23. I’m a thriller fan, I’ll check out Saltburn.

    1. I think you’ll enjoy it then.

  24. i agree somehow
yet i am pretty sure that you can fall into none of them and have it even worse than a comfort zone, like an imaginary cage

    1. That’s true, that would be difficult too since you would feel you don’t belong in any of them.

  25. Pooja, your use of the Maslow quote took me back to my teacher preparation time in college and later a career in the classroom. I’ve been retired for nearly six years, but I stay plugged in to teaching as two of my daughters are teachers.

    1. That’s great, glad it took you back. Teaching is one of the best things you can do, it’s wonderful two of your daughters are teachers.

  26. Or you can sideways imnto insanity 🤣🙃😎

    1. To be fair, that’s always an option 😛

  27. I am looking forward to your book!

I like the quote, but sometimes there is a third option of “forcefully dragged forward into growth.”

    1. Thanks so much, I’m excited to publish it soon!

True, sometimes you’re forced into growth whether you like it or not.

      1. I like the sound of “soon.”

Most of my personal growth has always been of the “dragged there against my will” variety.

        1. Lol, many of mine have been like that too but I stopped fighting it so much these days.
