An Adventure To Remember

An Adventure To Remember

She ran through the forrest, barely caring where she was running to. The only thing on her mind was what she was running from.

Growing up she had idolised Indiana Jones. And she had promised herself that she would grow up to be just like him. Living an exciting life full of adventures. She had studied history and archeology in university. Her hopes still high.

Unfortunately, life gets us all. She soon realised that nothing was as exciting as the movies made it seem. So she got her doctorate and began teaching. When she had just about given up hope, she was asked to join a team of archeologists headed to the Amazon.

She couldn’t wait. In the summer they took off but when they finally got to South America, things seemed off. The rest of the team were acting odd, a little too nice but yet so cold and distant. It wasn’t until she woke up, tied in an ancient temple somewhere in the Amazon that she realised she had been used as a pawn. Or as they called her, a sacrifice.

As they spoke in a language that hadn’t been spoken in centuries, the weather began to change. The sun slowly disappeared and the thunder rumbled as the rain got heavier. Out of nowhere, the most incredible looking Goddess appeared. To even attempt to describe her would be an insult to her beauty.

The other archeologists fell to their knees, waiting for her to thank them for awakening her once more and bringing her a gift to sacrifice. But instead, she reprimanded them for bringing her back to a world she had no interest in. The Goddess flicked her wrist and they all fell to the floor withering in agony until they moved no more.

She was horrified at what had happened to her colleagues but the distraction had helped her reach for the knife hidden in her sock. She had been able to cut herself free and slowly snuck away. Once out of the temple, she ran through the forrest barely caring where she was running to.

She had learnt her lesson- be careful what you wish for. This was not as fun as Indi made it look.

About “An Adventure To Remember”:

This short story was a response to Kevin’s NTT post for the week. I love his NTT prompt images but haven’t had much time to respond recently with my book coming out and everything. I was pretty preoccupied with that. But since I had nothing scheduled for today I thought it would be fun to once more participate in NTT.

I rarely write stories in this genre, not even short stories. But instead of sticking with the usual type of stories I write, I wanted to try something new.

  1. This is a good story Pooja. Movies can’t be like real life, especially those of adventure!

    1. Thanks so much and yes exactly, much scarier in real life to have those adventures!

      1. You’re always welcome. 😅

  2. It was a cool story edge of your seat stuff, I wanted to see what happened, so I read with enthusiasm! xo

    1. Thank you, so glad you enjoyed it!

  3. What can I say? I’m happy to find out she was a teacher, makes me all warm and fuzzy. We do get ourselves in trouble sometimes, no kidding, haha

    1. Haha yes, but teachers are good at getting themselves out of trouble too.

This is a link to a post about your first book of poetry. I got the book today and got into it. I’m enjoying its succinct, powerful quality. I wrote about receiving the book, and it’s overall a congratulatory note.

I (also) enjoyed your story above. It’s action-packed yet with helpful, engaging exposition. She should be the next Indiana Jones. Or you.

    1. Thank you so much! That is so kind of you. And I’m so glad you’re enjoying the book. I hope you enjoy all of it.

Haha I would love to be the next Indi but I may not be well suited for that role.

      1. The conciseness of the language of the poetry in your book shows, to me, great value in each word chosen and used.

Jones is at his best when there is a team. So you’d have help, Indi!

        1. Thank you, it took years for me to get the words just right so I appreciate you noticing that.

Well, with some help I could make it work haha!

  5. Wow that was a short but intense story. A lot happened. It was a joy to read.

    1. Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it.

  6. Well now after reading that I’ll not join in any archeologists’ expeditions again. Too risky. 🙂

    1. Haha yes, be careful with those.

  7. Fun story though!

    1. Same here, I’m a big Indiana Jones fan and thank you!

      1. You are welcome.

  9. An interesting story. I think she escaped a little too easily and the others did not suffer quite enough for their treachery.

    1. Thanks so much. Haha yes, I didn’t have enough time to add more to the story otherwise it wouldn’t have been so easy for them or her to escape.

  10. Another of your intriguing stories Pooja.
Great read for me. Thanks .

    1. Thank you so much. Glad you enjoyed it.

      1. You’re welcome I enjoy your work.stay safe.

Your energy (and hers) seems unlimited!
    Linda xx

    1. Thank you!

  12. How insignificant it is to go onto adventures we’ve lost interest in? I think she learned her lesson to obey what the heart and intuition tells her! Though she grew up romanticizing Indiana but it wasn’t her thing in the end.

    1. Yes, I think when we grow out of a dream we need to let it go.

      1. Perfectly said Pooja, how wise. You summed it up, to let go of what we’ve out growned.

  13. Gosh. She’s not likely to forget that!

    1. No she’s not, lol!

  14. Absolutely loved it!

    1. Thanks so much!

  21. Great story Pooja! ✨
The one take away I got from Indiana Jones movies is there’s always danger in any adventure because without it, it wouldn’t be fun.

    1. Thank you and yes that’s so true!

  22. A great story, Pooja. With some adventures, I’d rather be on the outside looking in. As with many things in life, be careful for what you wish for.

  23. ❤️💛💚

    Blessings 🌈🇪🇸

    1. Yes, we sure do. Thank you so much.

  28. I love this story! Great job. You hit all the important points. 1) Indiana Jones is cool, 2) Ancient temples should be visited with great caution, and 3) Never trust archaeologists. Lol.

    1. It’s the basic plot line for every archaeology movie I like so I thought I would try my hand at it lol.

  29. That was fast paced and fun reading!!
