True agendas ensconced by false promises.

About This Six Word Story:

Ensconce– shelter or conceal. (Source: ensconce)

I think I’ve mentioned this a while ago but I really enjoy learning new words. It’s always a positive to keep your mind active and learn new things. At least in my opinion. And I like to use these new words on my blog because it helps me remember them better which in turn helps me do better at Scrabble and piss off my cousins and sister. Which in my opinion is a big win lol.

Anyway, this week’s new word is ensconce. I hadn’t heard or read or used it before so it’s pretty new to me. Not sure if I’m using it correctly, fingers crossed I am using it correctly.

Today’s six word story is about people who get away with so much because they’re able to ensconce their true nature/agendas. And a lot of them aren’t even good at it pretending to be nice. They just kinda suck and people like them anyway. It’s sad but that’s the world we live in today. So be different, be genuine, be empathetic and be kind!

What did you think of this six word story? Have you heard of or used the word “ensconce” before? Let me know in the comments below because I would absolutely love to hear from you. Or simply stop by and say hi!

    1. Aw, that’s a really sad one.

  2. contained howard cosell used it in his lexicon. he s been dead since 1991. in other news pope st son tom is bored and is nit picking.

    1. I wonder how often it’s been used since the 90’s.

      1. very little by own personal hearing.

  3. A good, little story, Pooja. Happy Weekend.

    1. Thanks so much, have a great week.

  4. Very cool, Pooja. I finally figured out what a micro fiction story is thanks to chat gpt. Learn something new everyday. btw tomorrow’s my 30th birthday. Very thankful for friends like U 🙂

    1. Thanks so much and happy belated birthday! 🎁 So grateful to have met you here too my friend 😊

  5. I think no one is good at pretending. I may be judging by myself so I choose to be genuine, which pisses people off all the time. I’m not doing it on purpose, the truth is I’m very bad at pretending.

    1. That’s true, I think some people are better at pretending but often people eventually see through their act. I’m awful at pretending too so I get it.

  6. Always love the SWS. Another great one, Pooja.
I have indeed used the word ensconce. Usually totally at random to throw people off, I will pick a little used word and say it as often as possible in a day. Leads to some odd looks and funny moments lol
Work “melange” into a conversation sometime and watch people look at you like you have two heads 😄

    1. Thanks so much. Lol, I love that. They’re probably so confused. Will most definitely be trying that 😅

      1. Oh, it’s fun I assure you. Even a semi-known word like “plethora” is a curveball to some! 😜

        1. Lol, I’ll try a different words with different people to see how they react 😅

          1. It can be amusing I assure you lol

  7. Great SWS. I am guessing it is about politicians, lol.

I heard the word before, but usually meaning settled, which is the secondary meaning I guess.

Ululation convoked the exanimate to beadu.

    1. Lol it is, I’ve had it up to here with politicians.

Yeah, I read that meaning too but preferred this one haha.

That’s quite a six word story, I had to Google some of those words.

      1. I thought you might like the new words. I was not sure if beadu would show up as battle on google since it is an old english word.

        1. I’m glad you shared them, I love new words. Beadu showed up fine but my laptop is trying to change it to beads lol.

  8. Looks like you’ve encountered such a person recently

I hope you are not talking about me.

I am not using WP much, but are you posting SWS after a while?

    1. I have, I think we have all met someone like that. Lol definitely not you. Yes, it’s been months since my last SWS.

  9. 🙏🙌🏻

    Aum Shanti

  10. I’ve read this word before but hadn’t used in my writing

    1. That’s interesting, yeah it’s a really specific word so I don’t think most people use it in their writing.

      1. It’s like “ambivalent”- not everyone is sure of its exact meaning

        1. True, I think it’s also like there are multiple correct ways to use it.

          1. Very right 👍🏼

  11. That’s how people thrive nowadays. They “esconce” to make us believe everything is okay…but in reality they want something for their own benefit..it’s sad but true.. genuine people are rare to find. I think I am gonna piss some people too 😂, new vocabulary is my weapon, lol.. anyways keep being curious, Pooja.

    1. That’s so true, real people have become the minority these days. Lol keep pissing people off, being genuine is more important. Thanks ☺️

  12. I think I’ve heard “ensconced” used twice on a local(New York) radio talk-show years ago, and maybe once before. It’s difficult to know the appropriate uuances because for many words the denotations given in the dictionary are often obsolete and the evolving connotations have taken over, and usually they don’t give good examples where it has been used appropriately in a modern context or where they specify the appropriate sub-culture where it is more commonly used. The academic sub-culture has a lot of weird jargon that they try to ensconce into the real world of the common person, but often fail except for a few doctoral students who they can intimidate. I always fear that by the time I learn to use it that it will appear in the latest dictionary marked as “archaic” or “literary” and sometimes marked with an additional caveat of “caution — limited use.” But I did use it in my “Every Sentence Runs Out”.

“… these sentences gracefully making every trill
a wave to glory, oceanic, are not runaways,
    being ensconced in dreams, and…”

And I hate those fads where a news station uses a word because they want to sound like intellectuals and then for about 2 weeks all the other stations use the same word appropriately or inappropriately — they don’t care. Then the word disappears and is never used again. They once wanted to boast a political candidate while by contrast and implication trying to call his opponent stupid : for a short time everyone was saying, “He has gravitas.”
Anyway, coming down to Earth, use your words quickly today, for tomorrow they will seem Greek to everyone.

    1.     Oh hell typo. “nuances” not “”uuances”

    2. Yeah, fads are the worst. One person says something and everyone mindlessly parrots them.

    1. Yes, lots of politicians trying to sell snake oil. Such a shame that people actually believe that stuff. Eventually, truth will definitely win. Thanks and have a great week.

      1. Thanks You

        1. You’re most welcome 😊

  14. I’ve always used ensconced more as – having been incorporated into – the secret was ensconced into the whole. Not sure if that’s right either.
Anyway, I think there are far too many selfish, narcissistic profiteers who are prospering by pretending to be something other than what they are.

    1. Hmmm, interesting. Yes, I very much agree. And the sad part is that they have so many people supporting them.

  15. You definitely used ensconced correctly. I am familiar with the word but don’t use it myself. Not that I can ever remember anyway 🙂

    1. Oh good, thanks for the confirmation. I guess it’s ensconced by your brain haha.

  16. Downed hierophant sang blues hanging himself.

  17. Great six, Pooja, and I’ve heard the word ensconced but have never used it.
Honesty ensconced by little white lies.

    1. Thanks so much. Love your six word story too 😊

      1. You’re most welcome, Pooja, and thank you.

        1. Very welcome.

  18. Freedom at the embouchure, instrumentalists cry.

    1. These are all so good, thanks for sharing your six word stories.

  20. Six word stories give me life! 🥰

    1. Aww loved that! 😊

  21. nice one..
Promises embouchure over actuality, I confess..

IDK if i even got it.. lol😂

    1. Thanks so much, lol I think you did!

      1. Oh good, to know.. maybe… lol 😂

  22. Good story! In the words of my ex’s doctor, he spent his time confabulating, which is believing the lies and alternate reality one invents. This type of person is worse than a liar, because they believe the lies with all their heart. I learned it’s our actions that show who we are, not the fanciful things we can say to others!

    1. Thank you! That’s true, they begin to believe their own lies and no longer live in the real world. It’s sad but a very toxic situation. True, actions always speak louder!

  23. Haven’t used that word in a while. Six world story would definitely be a challenge for me..my brain just isn’t wired that way lol

    1. Lol that’s fair, I’ve found that it’s actually so much harder to write really short stories like SWS compared to longer ones.

  24. Great SWS. Ensconce is a terrific word. I’ve heard it used more in terms of settling (into a comfortable place, for example) or being absorbed (e.g., in the shade of a tree, or in a community) but like most words, it can carry different meanings and usages.

    1. Thanks so much! Oh yes, that’s the second meaning for it. Yeah, it has multiple meanings/uses.

      1. My pleasure! It’s kind of confusing when words are like that… sometimes the meanings are even opposite! 😅

Interesting post. Too bad there are a lot of people who have hidden agendas. Sorry, haven’t been on much. might be a while like this. Hope all is well.

    1. Thanks so much. Yes, unfortunately so. That’s okay I totally understand, hope you’re doing well too.

  26. It was a nice little story. It was the first time I came across the word “ensconce”

    1. Thanks so much. The word was new to me too.

  27. I guess you nailed the political agendas of the ruling elite of most countries in that statement. 🙂

    1. Haha yes, unfortunately so.

  28. I’ve heard it before but it’s a nice reminder for us to keep expanding our vocabulary.

    1. Thanks, yeah it’s always a good idea to keep learning throughout our life.

Great little story, and a clever way to use this word!

    1. Thanks so much!

  30. Ensconsed… I think I’ve heard that word before but not very often. And yes, there are too many people in this world who conceal what they are all about. And I don’t trust many people because sometimes you can’t tell right away what they want from you.
Hope all is going good for you Pooj.

    1. Yes, unfortunately a lot of people talk the talk but can’t back it up. It’s sad but in this world it’s best not to trust everyone. Thanks and hope you’re good too.

  31. It’s a good story. And esconced a good word. And winning at Scribble a good agenda. And I’m going to say, redundantly, good work!

In God’s hands are all esconced.

    1. Thanks so much! That’s such a lovely six word story. Thanks for sharing it.

  32. I’ve never heard of the word. I don’t know if I would ever use it, because a reader most likely wouldn’t be familiar with it. You might look at its etymology. That helps when using words one isn’t super familiar with in specific situations. And I agree about people concealing themselves. Take care Pooja.

    1. Yes, I’ll definitely do that, that’s a good idea. Thanks so much and take care too.

  33. Whilst these politicians trip on glue
