Things I Would Change About WordPress
WordPress is a continuously changing platform, especially more recently. I’ve had a lot to say about some of the changes being made. Although I am not always a fan of the changes, I tend to go along with them because I have no alternative options. I like this platform and the people here, so if I have to keep readjusting once in a few week I’ll do that. But instead of whining, today I thought I would share some things I would change about WordPress.
I hope that they take some time to read through these and take them into account. They probably won’t but I hope they do. I feel that these changes would actually help improve the platform instead of making changes that doesn’t really do much or change anything for the better. But that’s just my opinion and as I’m sure most of my readers know, I’m pretty full of myself so maybe I just think these changes will be great and no one else does… Lol anyway, here are the things I would change about WordPress (if I could).
Comments
For me, the best part of WordPress is the comments because that’s how we get to interact with one another. I’m not a particularly social person in real life, or even online. But on WordPress, I really enjoy the social part of it. I like to talk to others and get to know others bloggers. So yes, I spend a lot of times in the comments section and these are some changes I would make to the comments.
First, I think an edit button is very necessary at this point. We all make typos or grammar mistakes, or maybe we said something but later wish we could rephrase it. However, with no edit option we have no way of making changes to our comments. I think an edit button or option for our comments would be incredibly helpful.
Secondly, I’ve noticed that the comments don’t allow us to tag people. I would love it if they did, like on social media. So, if I read a post I think another blogger would like it would be really cool to be able to tag or “@” the blogger on that post.
Likes
This is something Cindy from Unique Times first mentioned to me and I thought this was such a good idea. Basically, I don’t know if you guys have noticed but if you get more than 90 likes on a post they don’t show the profiles of everyone that has liked the post. Instead, they show 90 and then it just says “more.” A lot of bloggers like to go into their “likes” and visit those that visited their post. Since this is a very mutual sort of platform I think it’s a great way to show our appreciation as well as find new sites. However, you end up missing a lot of them since WordPress doesn’t let us see all the “likes.” I wish they would, that would be really great.
Spam
It’s probably not just me who always finds actual comments in the spam folder and random spam comments on their notifications. If I was in charge of WordPress (and obviously I think I should be), I would make sure that the system is better at differentiating between real comments and spam. And banning those that leave spam like comments with the usual “follow my blog.”
Glitches
There are SO MANY glitches on WordPress these days. I recently talked on a recent post about a glitch with the followers/subscribers count as well as the one with the streaks. Other than those, there are so many other minor glitches. If I could change one thing about WordPress, it would be the glitches. I would revert WordPress back to the way it was with minimal issues and a very user friendly design.
Memory And Features
I find it crazy that so many features now need a paid plan for you to use them. When I started out on WordPress almost all those features were free. And even on the free plan we had a decent amount of memory. However, now you can’t even share videos without an upgrade. I find that so ridiculous. And I also feel like the greed is the reason so many bloggers are leaving this platform and the reason there’s so much less activity as compared to a few years ago.
It’s also the reason people are choosing social media over blogging. Why pay so much for memory when you can share as much as you like on social media for free? Not everyone is able to afford to pay for upgrades especially if they only blog as a hobby so I understand why they would choose to share on social media instead.
Customer Support
I would change a lot about the customer support we are currently offered. A lot of people upgraded their plans so they could live chat with happiness engineers. However, recently I’ve noticed that these chat options are often unavailable because “all the HE’s” are busy/preoccupied. The things is, back in the day everyone had the live chat option including the free plans. And the HE’s were never too busy.
My guess is that WP is trying to cheap out and is not hiring enough HE’s. So they’re always overwhelmed and that’s just not the right vibe for them to help us properly. They’re unsatisfied and the users are unsatisfied. The customer service is a mess at the moment if I’m being honest.
Personally, I would change the customer support to what it was like before. 24/7 live support for everyone including those on the free plan.
Final Thoughts
So, these are just some things I would change about WordPress. I don’t know if anyone from WordPress is reading this or even cares. Although the last time I whined about WP someone from GitHub shared my post and I think that’s a good thing. Not sure. Anyway, hope you enjoyed this post. It’s just something I was thinking of and thought I would share.
If you could, what would you change about WordPress? Let me know in the comments section below because I would love to hear from you. Or simply stop by and say hi!
