WordPress Is Becoming Unusable And We Need To Talk About It

WordPress is becoming unusable and we need to talk about it. I’m sure many of you have noticed the changes that they recently rolled out. Well, I don’t know if they count as changes when they’re just going back to how WP was back in the day. Personally, I don’t care too much about the changes because I had continued to use the classic view and classic editor this entire time. However, there are still some things I need to get off my chest.

And don’t worry, I realise that WP will most likely not take what I mention in this post into consideration. The sad part about using a platform like this one is we have no control over it. We just have to keep using it and accept the changes or leave. I have accepted that and will continue sharing posts here as long as this platform exists. But I’m only human and sometimes I need to vent. So, here is why I think WordPress is becoming unusable.

The Constant Changes

I think the biggest issue facing bloggers on WordPress right now are the constant and unnecessary changes. As I mentioned above, there has been a couple of changes recently. The biggest one is that the classic editor is now available to bloggers once more even without the plugin. And the design is what it used to be before the block editor was introduced.

Personally, that doesn’t effect me much because I always used the classic design and classic editor. However, it’s a big change for those that were used to the way things were. Not to mention, every time something changes we’re hit with another round of glitches. This can be so infuriating for bloggers. And not just infuriating, it makes it difficult for us to do the bare minimum because we’re busy trying to deal with the glitches.

The Lack Of Support

Talking of glitches, that actually brings me to my next point. When glitches do happen, it’s so hard to get proper help from the Happiness Engineers these days. Even with plans that have the chat option. Oftentimes (and this is just my experience) I end up talking to an HE who pretty much denies the glitch exists or gaslights me and makes me feel like I’m to blame for it.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve gotten some great HE’s. But majority of them recently have been super unhelpful. I’ve had an issue that I just gave up on because I didn’t know what else to do.

The Greed

I understand that profits matter, that’s why platforms like this one are created. Sure they bring us together but for those that run it, profits are pretty important. And I don’t mind them charging for certain things. However, recently it feels like more and more things are becoming a paid feature. I remember when everyone had access to the chat support, when everyone could upload videos regardless of the plan they were on, where everyone had a decent amount of storage space.

What the higher ups don’t seem to understand is that most people that blog aren’t looking invest large amounts of money into it. Most people here blog as a hobby because they like to share content and/or socialise with others. Someone like that isn’t going to be paying you hundreds of dollars especially when your platform is glitchy and annoying.

Everything costing an arm and a leg on here is what’s making a lot of people switch to other platforms or quit blogging altogether. How are people supposed to blog when everything needs a paid plan.

Final Thoughts

In my opinion, slow but surely, WordPress is becoming unusable. The things I mentioned are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to reasons why WordPress is becoming unusable. At a time when so many other platforms exist, instead of WordPress trying to get itself together and protect what is now no longer a popular form of content sharing, it has chosen to repeatedly shoot itself in the foot instead.

If you’ve been on WordPress for a while now, you will notice that the engagement, traffic and following is not what it used to be. And it just keeps getting worse. So many followers have literally just decided to abandon their blogs due to WP being so unstable.

I truly hope WP can do better because I love this platform and would hate to have to look for another one like it because I doubt a community like this one exists elsewhere on the internet.

What do you think of WordPress’s recent changes? What are your thoughts on this topic? Do you think WordPress is getting worse? Have you noticed a decrease in engagement, traffic and following? Let me know in the comments below because I would love to hear from you. Or simply stop by and say hi!

  1. Hello Pooja, I love the new format; it is more user friendly for me. Thanks for sharing your detailed blog and have an awesome night.

    1. I’m really happy to hear that, I hope you continue to enjoy the platform. Have a wonderful night/day too.

  2. I hadn’t noticed the new format but I used to get a lot of glitches. I messaged wordpress support the other day as I had a question and in under a minute I got a response that I really think was AI as it got back to me so fast, I thought that was really interesting and a sign of the way things are going!

    1. Yeah, a lot of their support is just AI because even when you repeat the same thing again and again it doesn’t understand. A human would instantly understand. I’ve had that experience multiple times.

  3. I thought I was the only one after 14 years here still using Classic…glad to know you do too Pooja:) I am not impressed with the new reader..and it could be as I don’t like change…I haven’t tried anything new. I blog for enjoyment…not for profit or even self promotion..except hoping people will watch my YouTubes.

    1. Yes, some of us have stuck with the classic version. I don’t like the new Reader or stats page. Both were fine as they were.

  4. Yes I’ve seen a lot of people complain about the recent changes. In my opinion a change is in itself bad because it initially confuses people and may cause issues just from being something different, not to mention the risk of introducing new bugs. Therefore, you should only change things if the changes truly makes the site better. But that is not what I am seeing. Don’t fix what ain’t broken, as they say. As for “Most people here blog as a hobby because they like to share content and/or socialise with others.” That is true for me. I still pay for the premium, mostly because of the help chat. I am OK with paying a bit for hobbies. I am paying for my beer brewing equipment, my telescope and I donate to charitable organizations I participate in. It’s all OK. But what I don’t want to pay for is the site getting worse.

    1. Yes, it can be quite confusing. “Don’t fix what ain’t broken” sums it up perfectly. We barely get used to one change when they make another for absolutely no reason. I think some people are okay with paying a certain amount for hobbies, that’s totally fine. What bugs me is that even when we pay for paid plans we don’t get the kind of service we deserve.

  5. For some time now, I’ve concluded that civilian WordPress was an additional way to make revenue, outside of WP’s core business of VIP/ Enterprise for large corporations and sole entrepreneurs who have large capital to spend.

I will say, one should find a way to WP-VIP, I think it could be beneficial to one’s solo site.

But for those who need WP at an attainable level, ask every question possible. Use WP’s knowledge and your own knowledge to build your platform in the best way possible.

    1. Yes, I fully agree with you. I think they cater more towards VIP customers.

      1. Corporations are their business. Civilian WP play a duel role. One, an additional revenue stream for WordPress. And two, it offsets any economic shortfalls from its core business of VIP clients.

        1. Yes, we definitely serve those purposes and that’s what makes us an important part of the platform.

  6. WP should keep in mind that users, including small users, drive traffic to the sites. And that traffic attracts more users. They should treat users like a resource and not like sheep to be fleeced.

    1. Well said, sir. 👍🏻

    2. Man, traffic is so desperately needed with our sites!!!! I mean, I live the VIP amenities offered. But make it easy for us commoners.

    3. Yes, I think they forget that their smaller users are what built this platform. They wouldn’t have the large amount of users they have if it weren’t for us.

  7. I totally agree it’s so annoying not only for me but others I’ve heard of as well. Look at the bright side… it keep you in business.. lol. But who wants to manage what they should be doing. Hello give us some warning, a training etc. Yep, that’s my love hate relationship with our hate to hate issue right now.. 😛

    1. Yes, super annoying! Lol true it gives me business but at the same time it makes my job so much harder when there’s so many glitches I have to deal with all the time 🥲

      1. I know right.. handling crap you don’t want to do that should be done for all of us. PITA! 👀

        1. Exactly, we shouldn’t have to deal with it ourselves otherwise what’s the point of paying for plans!

          1. Rightly said!~ 👏

  8. Hi Pooja! This is another excellent post, and I’m glad I followed your blog. Although I’ve noticed some slow traffic, I haven’t experienced any major changes that interfere with my blogging. I agree with everyone— I blog as a hobby, and I’m fine with spending a little on themes. However, all these changes happening at once can be overwhelming for users. I’m not going anywhere, but I do hope things improve for all of us, not just for their profits.

    1. Thanks so much! I’m glad you haven’t experienced any major issues. I think most are okay with spending small amounts on blogging but what irks me is that they provide less and less for paid features while hiking up the prices. And not to mention that this site is always getting worse instead of better.

  9. Hi Pooja, you hit this subject spot on! I wish that there were another platform like WP that will inform it’s users first before making useless, illogical changes. My stats dashboard completely changed a few weeks ago and it is incredibly glitchy!

Greed, oh yes, that’s WP today. We pay $300 bucks a year for a storage limit and other features that should be available to many more people at a much lower price. Greed! I remember a very different WP ten years ago. It was a much better version of WP.

I tried to contact a WP HE a while back and couldn’t do it. I remember when I could, and all this for $300 bucks a year?

I didn’t know that the Legacy editor is back, I’m still using the plugin which works perfectly. NOBODY liked that stupid block editor, and I’ve never used it thank God.

You are correct, Pooja, WP seems to be slowly killing itself with the ignorant changes and ridiculous prices. I sincerely hope that Matt Mullenwig or whatever his name is, will read the comments on this post, Pooja. They need to wake the heck up!

    1. Thanks! I know what you mean, this community is the only thing keeping many of us here. My stats dashboard too and when the Reader first changed it was so frustrating. And then it changed again for the worse, they took away our ability to search for sites we follow which was such a good feature.

Exactly! We pay so much for our plans and still get nothing out of it except the bare minimum. It’s ridiculous.

I’ve always used the Classic editor too, I couldn’t stand the block one. It’s awful.

I wish they would listen to us but it seems whatshisface couldn’t care less about users.

      1. You are right, Pooja, Matt Mullenwig cares not one bit about we users. Jerk! If there were another platform like WP I’d be gone.

  10. The comment and post sections of the dashboard are now one big wall of text, and most of the useful options on the comment page (collapsing replied comments, being able to like from the dashboard, etc.) seem to be missing. It’s frustrating taking a few days off and coming back to yet another change.
And yet, they can’t/won’t fix persistent issues. And yes, the paying for it makes the pill even more bitter to swallow at times.

    1. Those changes have really thrown me… a lot of useful information is either much harder to find, or just not available. It’s so disheartening.

      1. Amen to that. I really, really do not like it at all. It just looks like one big mess. I am still 99% convinced I have missed some comments because of the way they are all jammed together in an indecipherable boondoggle.

        1. Yes, me too. I said to the happiness engineer in the closing to my first set of comments, “please bring back the beautiful!”

I encourage EVERYONE to submit comments to WP to pressure them to fix this mess.

          1. I actually thought about doing that. Perhaps I should!
I don’t know that it will do any good, but it can’t hurt I suppose.

            1. You never know, worth a try! 🤗

    2. Agreed! They refuse to fix actual issues of which there are many and yet make these stupid useless changes which is what’s most frustrating. They take away such useful features like being able to search the blogs we follow, I’m still so mad about that one.

      1. Same here. I used that one A LOT. And now I can’t even drop a simple like from the comments dashboard? Please. 🙄
As much as I bitch, like you and so many others, I am not going anywhere because of the community.
That said, if it keeps becoming more frustrating to use? Well, everyone has a breaking point.

        1. It’s like every change makes it worse! Yeah, we stick around but I wish they would just leave us be.

          1. Yeah if you aren’t going to fix the really annoying crap, then just leave it the hell alone lol

  11. I agree (and already vented to you on another post) that the changes are terrible, as I was using the default view, and now that it’s changed to the classic, none of my past workflows are there and I’ve been scratching me head trying to find my way around. It’s not user friendly or intuitive in the least.

As for the traffic, I can’t complain about that. I’ve paid attention to your blogging tips and those seem to have helped increased my traffic; mostly visits and quite a lot, but likes and comments are creeping up, too.

You’re right, people don’t want to invest a lot if we’re doing non-commercial blogs. It makes no sense to go to the expense of making such questionable changes. I’ll follow up on my service ticket this weekend to see what they plan to do with the massive amount of feedback I gave on the changes as well as the glitches.

    1. Yes, I remember you being irritated by the changes then too. It’s so confusing to have to deal with these changes constantly with no proper heads-up.

I’m glad my advice has helped and hope you continue to get good traffic.

People definitely don’t want to invest much if they’re blogging as a hobby especially when they’re not getting much for their money.

Do let me know what they say, I hope they listen to you and at least make some effort to rectify the glitches.

      1. Thanks! I will indeed update you with what I hear back.

        1. Thanks, hope to hear some positive news!

          1. Update for today… I made a lengthy comment today on WP’s promo of the “new” interface. I encourage EVERYONE to comment on it:

            http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2025/01/22/interface-update/

Have also submitted a request to the HEs for an update on my ticket. Waiting… 🧐

            1. Very interesting, thanks for sharing- I’ll be leaving a comment too and will share it with others in case they’re interested!

  12. I hope they can get their shit together and do better! I love it here, and I hope to be here for many more years to come!

    1. I hope so too, I’m so sick of waking up to a new glitch every day!

  13. I agree with everything you’ve said. I understand if someone’s got a free account and thus can’t really say anything about changes, but if you’ve paid for your account, it’s a bit annoying to always find the furniture rearranged so that you don’t know where things are.

    1. Thanks so much. Yes, exactly. If you’re paying for an account it’s so frustrating to have to deal with glitches because of the changes and have no help with them.

      1. Wow you changed your WP name. Almost didn’t recognize you!

        1. Haha yes, sorry for any mix up. I decided to start using my pen name, makes it easier for SEO.

  14. I totally agree. The functionality has been shocking. There was a happy place here, but the changes are kicking my butt. Like WHY, change some of the core elements. It went from simple and fundamental to way too many menus. Geez the good old days was so great, it’s hurting my head these days to adopt to some of these changes, but I try.

    1. Thanks. It’s definitely been shocking, the platform gets less user friendly with every new change. It was so easy and fun, now we need to Google just to figure out what to do.

  15. Yes, I have noticed these changes but in my my case did not effect the way post. However, I have noticed that many bloggers I used to know have left this platform, which is truly sad.

    1. I’m so glad it didn’t affect you. Yes, many have left which really sucks. People I’ve talked to for years on this platform have gone recently.

  16. It’s unfortunate. But I think constant feedback from their customers would have been a good idea if they want to improve on the quality of their services.

    1. Yes, I so agree. Listening to our feedback would make a huge difference.

  17. 🙏🌹👍

    Aum Shanti

  18. Since I blog from my phone, I haven’t noticed any major changes on WP.

    1. Oh I see, yes I think many of the changes are for desktop users.

      1. Yes they are. The classic editor has been taken off since at least 4 years now.

  19. I have not noticed too many changes on WP until the new page and post view changes. At least in is not like a certain social media site, that I will not name, that locks a person out with no recourse other than making a new account and starting from scratch, lol. From the reading forums, it seems all these sites are the same, which is to say, mostly automated with little to no support if your problem is slightly outside the box of canned answers.

    1. Update; I just noticed the comments page has changed to a similar format as the other ones. I guess I am a bit slow to notice things, lol.

      1. Oh no, it’s not you. It’s because different people experience the changes at different times depending on time zones, when the account was created etc.

    2. I know the social media site and share your frustration, it locked one of my clients out which was so freaking annoying to deal with. Yup, the changes open up a can of worms that they refuse to help with. You just have to hope the glitches eventually resolve themselves.

  20. Not gonna lie, editing on WP is just plain awful now but I don’t mind the block editor. However, whenever I try to write anything it underlines the stuff I write in different colors and there’s no way to disable it. It drives me nuts. The only feature I do like is the AI option for editing which is surprisingly decent. I like that it doesn’t cost a fortune to use that feature.

Over time, I too noticed that WP isn’t what it used to be. A lot of people have abandoned their blogs including me. I lost interest in writing and now I wonder if there’s even a point. Is anyone still reading blog posts these days?

    1. Yup, it’s gotten so unnecessarily complicated. This platform gets less user friendly every couple of weeks. Many have stopped writing or completely abandoned the platform. I miss when it was at its peak around 2020. I think people still read blog posts and there’s a big market for people that want to blog, it’s just WP makes it so complicated people would rather use easier platforms instead.

      1. Same here. 2020 was an enjoyable year for blogging. I used to spend most of my free time on WordPress interacting with ppl in this community. Now, it’s mostly crickets. You are one of the few ppl who didn’t abandon your blog and still blog consistently.

        1. Yup, barely any engagement these days.

  21. I’ve had my fair share of glitches and headaches too. Also, I don’t understand these constant changes, everything was going fine and then they didn’t like that fine part. I guess this is the issue with other platforms, like Instagram…I mean what’s even the point of a rectangular grid (as you may have noticed). I think we’ll just have to roll with the punches…

    1. Yes, I think most of us have. They keep making unnecessary changes which causes lots of weird glitches. It’s okay to make a few changes but the way they do it constantly is annoying.

Yup, I’ve noticed the changes on IG but honestly I avoid that platform so I don’t care that much.

      1. yes exactly…sometimes these changes are so annoying.

  22. So glad it isn’t just me who thinks this.

    1. Yeah, definitely not just you. Many of us are really frustrated.

  23. 👌👌👌📝🫶I fully agree. That’s why I keep my original personal domain out of WP’s reach. Here, I lead a parallel life just to stay in touch with you, whom I love.🫶

    1. Same here, I know at some point we’re going to have to move to other hosting services. The sad part is that most of them are even worse then WP 😩

  24. Sadly, WP is going downhill. I’m just going to sit in my corner and cry a bit. Then I’ll be well enough to complain again, sigh…

    1. I’ll be there crying with you, it pisses me off so much sometimes.

  25. I think the community that has formed here is the best feature of this platform. I certainly hope they stop ‘fixing things that aren’t broke’ and instead listen to their users and fix the things they’ve changed and ruined.

    1. I so agree, I think this community is fantastic and many of us stay here for the sake of the community. Yes, I really hope they start listening to users because there’s so much they do need to fix instead of these useless changes.

  26. this is the now
    and how
    ai is taking over
    shit is the norm
    and nobody cares
    to hear what our
    feedback is
    still it s free
    and is not social media
now ian will sing this is not love
and ask you how come you know better than me!??????????????

    1. Urgh yes don’t even get me started on the AI takeover.

      1. lazy lazy people . such a shame. like the cheap cd player in my car. why do away with technology that still works?

        1. Agreed, the changes are so unnecessary.

  27. SMiLes Dear Pooja the ‘Classic Editor’ Has Never Changed in my 137 Months

    1. Same here, I always prefer the classic editor and continued to use it even when the block on was introduced.
Sorry to hear that but I’m glad they at least fixed it and gave you the unlimited storage back. It’s frustrating to have storage limited even on a paid plan.

      1. It Was Re-Assuring

        Get Rid Of The
        Classic Editor

  28. Thanks Pooja!! I use WordPress through my Host so my processes are a bit different but I have been experiencing issues, especially over the past year.
I haven’t been able to like or comment on Bloggers websites, or in the reader, for many months. Which is why I started with the sunshine emoji to let people know I read their posts, as I couldn’t do anything else. I did find I could like posts, and comment on them, by using the Bell at the top of my dashboard when I log in. I don’t get to see the websites this way though, unless I click on them, which I do for the most part and come back here to like and comment.
I have noticed a lot of people I followed have left WordPress, which is sad to see. I hope we don’t lose many more…
As for me, I don’t plan on going anywhere as of yet!

    1. Oh I see. That’s interesting. I guess some features aren’t available to those self-hosting.
I’m glad you plan to stay here and so do I, I just hope they fix the platform a little and make it easier to use!

      1. 🌞 Yes, I have seen the dashboard of someone hosted on WordPress and it looks a bit different than mine.
I hope they fix it too, especially make it easier to like and comment

        1. Yes, fingers crossed!

  29. I started using the block editor during its beta phase and don’t have a problem with it. With that said, I feel WP needs to be transparent and confirm to its users the classic editor will continue to be supported. It seems for the last few years, there has been a lot of iffiness about the future of the classic editor. Those of us who love to blog look for consistency in the platform of our choice.

As of January 2025, WordPress powers 43.6% of all websites, which translates to approximately 475 million websites. This significant user base includes a wide range of sites from small blogs to large corporate websites.

Collectively, every blogger matters and should be appreciated. Big business seems to forget who butters their bread.

    1. I’m glad you’re doing fine with the block editor. I think those that get used to it are fine with it and those that don’t have a lot of trouble. I agree, they should have been transparent instead of leaving us to wonder.

Absolutely, I think they need to take into account the needs of all users. I understand that some changes are necessary and they can’t cater to every user personally but they could at least try to keep changes to a minimal and take what users have to say into account when so many tell them the same thing.

      1. Pooja, I just read the WP.com newsletter about the new changes to the interface. So far, there are 36 comments and all of them negative! The only positive comment was WP is not planning to remove the Classic editor. Yay!

Here is the link – https://wordpress.com/blog/2025/01/22/interface-update/

        1. Thanks so much for letting me know! I’m so glad the Classic Editor will remain an option, it’s much more user friendly for some and I know many prefer it.

          1. You’re welcome, Pooja.

  30. haven’t noticed any major changes on my side, but many are frustrated as I read other blogs.
As we hope for some stability, it’s a small one to bet on 😬

    1. Yes, we just want some stability instead of changes every few weeks. I would certainly not bet on WP, they don’t really listen to us much 😅

      1. 🥴…lost case lol…

  31. I am having a lot of issues with WordPress. Smh.

    1. Sorry to hear that, I have too and it sucks.

  32. I learned how to approve comments on my blogs then that was changed and I had to relearn and it took a bit, Then I knew how to delete posts I no longer wanted and that changed and I had to relearn how to delete, That all makes me a very unhappy and frustrated blogger, Other than that I am happy to be blogging on WordPress otherwise where would I go to do it for free?

    1. It’s frustrating when they continuously and needlessly change things. Yes, it’s a good platform but I wish they would listen to users a bit more.

  33. What starts as a cheap, easy way to set up a platform and blog rapidly becomes expensive and doesn’t work well. I find the changes frustrating. Far from making things easier and smoother they do things worse and require having to work things out. I’d rather be writing than wrestling with changes. They seem to have become much more mercenary. This blaze has knocked my stats. Unless you pay more you suffer.

    1. Yes, exactly. The changes just make the platform less user friendly which is ridiculous. Same here, Blaze has really decreased stats and for many. Even with paid plans.

  34. As you know, I’m a full-on hobbyist here. But based on my experiences with WP in the deep past, I have to agree. It’s not what it was. Rant on!

    1. It’s definitely not, I miss what it was a few years ago!

  35. Appreciate this post, not because I’m experiencing too many frustrating things, but because I learn so much, also from so many of your wise and more experienced followers.

    1. Thanks so much, I’m happy to share these kinds of posts because I know some bloggers will benefit from it.

      1. Definitely.

  36. I agree with you that WordPress is getting worse – as to ‘going back’, they only did that in appearance – before they started their big changes it worked well. If they don’t shape up soon, they’re going to lose a lot more of us.

    1. Yes, exactly. It’s only a design change. And the annoying part is they just changed it to an older version which means some plugins no longer work well like my SEO plugin.

  37. Well, I’d hate to leave WP, though I will. When it becomes unusable plus there being usable platorms, that will be that. I’ve used WP since the start of my blogging adventure, as WP seemed welcoming and accessible. One could stay the same in style and format (to begin with) or try creative. Nowadays, I must admit I try to wade through what has changed simply to get something on the page and posted. Sigh. Too hard. And as I’m going to hit the given capacity soon, I’ll have to make a choice. You have, I believe, given and described the issues accurately and reasonably.

    1. I understand, sometimes I feel like most of us will probably leave at some point. We all have our breaking point. I hope they fix things but I feel like they just don’t care.

  38. WP seems to only care about making changes for the sake of makng changes so people can justify their jobs. When changes happen with no notice, weekly ones at that, it is demotivating.

    1. Yes, I very much agree. So disappointing that this is how they treat users.

  39. Yes WP is constantly changing but so is everything else in the world and it is hard to keep up with. But so far it has not affected my blogging as my blogs are not for business but just for the pleasure of writing.

    1. True, change is a constant but I just wish they made good changes instead of those that hinder us.

  40. Hate it!!!! Why don’t they just leave things alone…geesh!

    1. I feel the same way!

  41. Yes I agree. I really don’t like the latest changes either. How can I avoid them? I don’t think I can. The changes make things more difficult. WordPress started out as Open Source, Non Profit, User supported. Then it was bought out I believe by Microsoft. Not sure who owns it now. Best wishes Phil

    1. The changes make things so much more complicated. I don’t think we can avoid them but whining about it helps lol. I think it’s owned by Automattic now.

      1. I know. It was best as Open Source. There was a beautiful Open Source movement which sadly has pretty much disappeared. Best wishes Phil

        1. Yeah, it really sucks the way things went but all we can do is stick around till we can.

  42. After five years, my views increased dramatically, however, they are mostly from search engines. Very few from the reader, or from subscribers.
Also, to read and comment bloggers I follow is so inconsistent.
I don’t trust the platform or the Internet. It’s all so sketchy.

    1. I’m glad you’re getting more views. I’ve noticed Search Engine views increase for me too but WP ones have been decreasing for a while now.

  43. Absolutely…and its interface has to be much-more freely interactive for it to get popular like other platforms. Informative and true, thanks.

    1. Absolutely, other platforms are so easy to use. WP is falling behind. Thanks.

  44. I hate to say it Pooja But change is inevitable. And with AI being so prevelant, they really don’t care about the users. Two of many reasons I write outside of WP and my posts in. We have to either live with it or leave. 🤣😎🙃

    1. Yes, it’s definitely inevitable but whining helps lol 😂

  45. I absolutely agree with you. I run WP as well, but the self hosted, open source version, and they’re practically two different softwares. I switched away from Automattic’s version YEARS ago because they’d pay walled everything, and I wasn’t using it for VIP stuff. I was using it to play around, write, and share things I found interesting! It was obnoxious. So that version became unusable (to me) by about 2018. I have no idea why Automattic decided to alienate everyone like this, but they did. I completely agree with you. 😭

    1. Thanks. Yes, them turning everything into a paid feature is so annoying. Most people here don’t want to spend large amounts on a hobby. It’s greed, that’s why 😩

  46. I’m only on WordPress still because of you and the community of others on here. Otherwise I do most of my writing on Substack.com (Pennie’s Writing’s). It’s a great platform for writers.

    1. Same here, the community is what keeps most of us here. I’ve heard a lot of good stuff about Substack, it definitely seems great for writers.

      1. Yes and the platform is still improving. You’re able to post videos if you want, as well as pictures. And now you have the choice to have audio available for your post just in case someone would rather listen to it then read it. And sharing it on social media is simple too

        1. That’s really great, I find it so odd that WP made videos and audio a paid feature. It’s nice you have that option on substack.

  47. Interesting read Pooja, I’m almost glad I know nothing about how wordpress works or the politics behind it!

    1. Yeah, it’s for the best to know less lol!

  48. The post and comments pages were easy to use, then they changed them and made it harder. I figured it out on my own, but it’s not an improvement.

    1. I agree. They’re not impossible just much less user friendly. I just don’t get the point of these changes.

  49. I really hope they can do better
I was off for a while from blogging and now I’m back and it’s like a whole new platform which Im not familiar with 😅😅😅

    1. I hope so too. Things change like every week these days 😅

Coming up on six years for me, and this last year has been the worst as far as glitches go. I’m not a complainer by nature and most of this stuff rolls off my back, but lately I find myself getting more frustrated. The latest is that 20% of the time when I try and leave a comment, I get some message saying my comment was unable to be accepted. Then I have to retype the whole thing and it always goes through the second time.

    1. Thanks so much for sharing your experiences. I feel the same way. Generally, I understand that some glitches and changes are bound to happen to platforms. But recently, it’s gotten to a point where the platform is becoming unusable. Many are having issues with the comments. For me, I couldn’t load sites on the reader for almost two weeks, I had to keep going to sites manually.
