A Trip To Outer Space

A Trip To Outer Space

As I finally stepped out of the spaceship

I saw the most wondrous things

I couldn’t believe my eyes as I gazed

At all the colourful moons

The river made of yarn and flowing like hair

The sky was covered in stars

The hills were made of colourful cotton candy

I breathed it all in and couldn’t resist

Exploring the lands that lay in front of me

And just as I reached up to grab a shiny purple apple

That gleamed as though it was glazed

Everything began to fade and

I could hear the traffic outside my bedroom once more

I look around in confusion

And saw the half eaten plate of brownies on my bed

The ones my mum had hidden in the refrigerator

What the hell was in them?

About A Trip To Outer Space:

This poem was inspired by Kevin’s No Theme Thursday prompt for the week. He has so many great images as always this week and this one in particular really grabbed my attention. You can check out all his prompts for the week here.

Have you ever eaten some brownies that were so good you took the greatest trip of your life? Perhaps a cookie or two? Oh yeah, me neither. I don’t know what you’re accusing me of but that’s definitely not what inspired this poem as soon as I saw the image…

Let me know in the comments below what you thought of “A Trip To Outer Space” and when was the last time you had a fun trip. Or simply stop by and say hi!

I recently published my first book and would be honoured if you took a minute to check it out here.

  4. Nice post

  5. With the aid of computers and space cameras there are beautiful sights to see in our universe and even our most sensitive equipment is unable to penetrate the far reaches of our universe and beyond. Probes sent into space on incredible long journeys help to penetrate further but there is always something beyond. Our universe is amazing. Looks like you need more of those brownies.

    1. Yes, our universe is incredible and there are new things being discovered all the time. Haha yes, the brownies surely help.

    1. Apparently, people experience outer space and are able to transport their soul during meditation sometimes. It’s very rare and I don’t know if it really does happen but I’ve heard stories.

  14. It was a lyrical, fun and magical story about the trip to space. I wonder about the brownies but I hope it is all fine.

    1. Thank you so much. I’m sure it was fine once the brownies wore off.

    1. Thanks ☺️

  15. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂Nice

    1. Lol glad you enjoyed it 😅

  16. The brownies were laced with something for sure!

    1. Yes, I’m starting to think so too! 😅

      1. 😂😂😂

  17. Ha, ha, so there was a twist to the tale!

    1. Haha yes there certainly was!

  18. Love the imagery! Brilliant work, as always.

    1. Thank you so much, so glad you enjoyed it!

  19. Can’t say I’ve ever had brownies like that.

    1. That’s fair, to each their own.

  20. My friends and I must have eaten bad rice Krispy treats one day because we were positive this building in Chicago had an art gallery upstairs & ended up being trapped in an empty office in a maze of cubicles 😭

    1. Haha omg what a crazy experience 😅

  21. The brain is an amazingly complex machine. Who knows what reality really is??

  22. So fun 💯🤩

    1. Thanks ☺️

  23. I wish I could go to 🚀 space 😎😎

    1. Yeah, it would be cool 😎

  24. Hi Pooja, I have never tried brownies like that, I was told multiple times that I should, I’m still not convinced … They say it sparks your creativity, but does it actually? I would like to learn more about it, there is lots of propaganda for mushrooms in this part of the world, allegedly it can heal all your trauma just like that, easy peasy. It sounds like magic, like we all could be healed in a quick second, what do you think? I would vote for it if it was that amazingly instrumental in the healing process for humanity.

    1. I think it depends on the person, for me it really gets my creative juices flowing but for some it does nothing. I’m not a fan of mushrooms, I’ve not had a good experience and although it may help some I think the benefits are highly exaggerated.

      1. Interesting to learn another opinion, I was sort of thinking it myself but all the other voices are much louder in my head.

        1. Yeah, sometimes it’s hard to get distracted when our opinion is different from the majority.

  25. This was fun, Pooja, loved it! And my brownies may be delicious but not as exciting as those! 😘

    1. So glad you enjoyed it and that’s fair haha! 😜

  26. Them brownies be taking you up high on a one stop destination straight to baked town! Too bad you didn’t see an electronic space banjo up there either. Space bluegrass would’ve been quite fascinating to witness. 😂

    1. Lol they sure do! Haha perhaps next time 😉😅

  27. lol.. trippin. I had a friend who experimented with certain things, and this reminded me of one of his many tales. A fun response to the prompt, Pooja.

    1. Haha thanks so much. People have the most interesting experiences.

  28. Love this, Pooja! Reminds me of back in the day when brownies were laced with unknowns.

    1. Thanks so much! Oh yes, especially in the sixties and seventies.

      1. You’re welcome, Pooja!

  29. I think perhaps you would like to go into outer space my fellow Jedi 🙂

    1. I think it would be a lot of fun but also a little scary 🙂

  30. Funny! Though in earnest I particularly like your description of the river. That’s quite an illustration. You respond effectively in kind. I hope you’re on your way, with or without brownies (maybe some unadulterated), into a grand weekend.

    1. Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you, I’m having a wonderful time even with just regular brownies. Hope you have a lovely weekend too.

  31. Wow! Hills made of cotton candy!

    1. Yesss, everything is edible and delicious!

  32. I think I know what was in them brownies 😂.

    1. Lol, they were extra special 😅

  33. A great poem to complement the hallucinatory image, with a surprise twist at the end. Clever!

“Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”… now there’s a throwback and it fits the theme!

    1. Thank you, so glad you enjoyed it! Haha yes that’s the first song I thought of after writing the poem.

  34. That was some adventure! 💞

    1. Haha yes sure was! 💕

  35. Felt like I just took a spacey trip in a delicious sounding dream on a perfectly beautiful Sunday 😀 with you and Lucy (lol) … cosmic brownies have to be enticing and irresistible! I would have fallen victim hard (haha)! Loved the artwork, poetry, and theme, beyond words ~ <3

    1. Ahah glad you enjoyed it! I have fallen victim to them too but in the end I always enjoy exploring outer space lol 😂

  36. And the planets are potatoes.😂

    1. Haha yesss 😅
