Wednesday Season 2 Part 1 Review

Wednesday Season 2 Part 1 Review

I have always been a fan of The Addams Family and therefore was excited when the first season of Wednesday came out. I shared my review of it here. Well, after more years than I thought it would take we finally have a second season. I finished the first part of it a while ago and since the second part comes out tomorrow I thought I would share my review of Wednesday season 2 part 1 today.

Plot

So far, I’m very much enjoying the plot. It started out a little slow if I’m being honest but by the end of the second episode I was pretty invested. I will say that this season revolves around the school and the woods which sometimes makes it a little boring because they don’t visit the town or interact with normies much.

So far, there are some plot discrepancies but I’m assuming they will address those by the end of the season as they usually do with these sort of shows. And some of the things that happen without giving anything away is a little too obvious for my liking. I like unexpected twists and turns so that was a bit disappointing to me. But I have to remind myself I’m probably not the target age range for this show which is why some things feels maybe more obvious or predictable.

Characters

As always I love Wednesday’s character as well as Enid and the chemistry between the two. I love Uncle Fester and think the addition of Agnes DeMille is great. She plays the weird, obsessive type very well. Most of the new characters I really enjoyed actually and was happy to see recurring ones like Christina Ricci.

Now for the biggest problem I have with this season, I feel like we’re seeing too much of the rest of the Addams family i.e Morticia, Gomez and Pugsley. In general, this wouldn’t be a problem for me. However, to begin with, this show is called WEDNESDAY for a reason. Having story lines for other characters takes away from the main plot and leads to boring moments when your attention as the viewer drifts. Plus, I’m just not a fan of the new Moritcia and Gomez. I think both were badly cast and neither pop on screen. When we look back at the original Moriticia and Gomez, they were absolutely iconic. So much chemistry and they had a way of grabbing your attention. I find both Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán so dull in comparison, they don’t stand out at all.

Last season, I had the same issue but they didn’t have too much screen time so it didn’t bother me. They have much more screen time in this season and it makes me cringe to watch them. Especially because I was a huge fan of the OG Morticia and Gomez.

Overall

This isn’t the greatest season of the show but it’s also interesting enough that I will watch the second part too. Overall, I am very much enjoying Wednesday Season 2 regardless of a couple of things I’m not the biggest fan of.

Have you been watching Wednesday Season 2? If so, what did you think of it?

  1. It is a show I have not watched! I will check it out! I have heard it is good so i will definitely check it out!

    1. It’s so good, you’ll love it!

  2. Thanks for the review

    1. Happy to share it, thank you for reading.

  3. To be honest I found it more violent than the first…that’s always a turn-off for me and I totally agree with you on the “no chemistry” but rather creepy couple the new Morticia and Gomez make. Still…I’m watching it:) because of Wednesday:)

    1. Yup, more violence and gore in this season. And yeah, such an awkward couple it really doesn’t work well. Haha yeah it’s not bad overall I just wish they had done better with this season considering it took 3 years to finish making.

  4. Can’t wait for the final episodes 😀 Re: Morticia, she’s not tortured and loving it enough and isn’t her mum completely different (I don’t know enough of the back story)!? IT still steals the show (imo) and really looking forward to the conclusion!! Great review!! <3

    1. I’m going to start watching them today, so excited! Exactly and Gomez (in my opinion) isn’t passionate enough like the OG was. Yesss they changed the her mum’s character completely, I’m pretty sure she was an eccentric (but loving) witch in the movies. I love IT, seriously is one of the best parts of the show! Thank you!

My wife and I watch Wednesday together and really enjoy it too…. We love the mix of drama, comedy, suspense, and thrills. Looking forward to part 2 👏🖤

    1. Yeah, it’s really interesting and also quite humorous at times. Same here, excited to watch the rest of the season 😊

  6. I see TV ads for this daily, enough. Not my kinda movie but that’s okay. 😊

    1. That’s totally fine, we all have our preferences 😊

  7. I have not seen Wednesday but it makes sense what you are saying. It should be about Wednesday. You wrote a very insightful and very helpful review.

    1. Exactly, I wish they had focused more on her this season like they did in season 1. Thanks so much.

    1. Yup, I loved how they represented people who don’t fit in but are perfectly happy being themselves. That’s what we should all strive for. As someone with dark under eyes I can relate lol. Of course, even in retirement it’s good to keep ourselves busy and preoccupied.

  10. My daughter loved the first series, but is busy studying now that the second season is out and has been having a bit of FOMO – I’ll let her know what you think. Linda xx

    1. She still has plenty of time to catch up since the second part of season 2 only came out today. Hope she enjoys it when she’s able to watch it. Thank you.

  11. I just had a look on google at the new Morticia and Gomez.
    Yikes!
I can see why having them be on screen would be distracting. Not at all like the originals…

    1. Exactly, too different from the original especially with how they show up on screen. They have like zero presence.

  12. I’m right here with you in this:

“So far, I’m very much enjoying the plot. It started out a little slow if I’m being honest but by the end of the second episode I was pretty invested. I will say that this season revolves around the school and the woods which sometimes makes it a little boring because they don’t visit the town or interact with normies much.

So far, there are some plot discrepancies but I’m assuming they will address those by the end of the season as they usually do with these sort of shows.”

But I actually love seeing more of Morticia in the mix and the problematic mother-daughter mess she and Wednesday seem to have of a relationship. I can do without Gomez and Pugsley. But The Addams’ have always been family-oriented, so having them around stays in line with their overall theme.

I’m excited about what’s to come for Part 2!

    1. For sure and generally I love all of The Addams’ but I really don’t like the people they’ve picked for Gomez and Morticia- I think I just loved the original ones so much these ones just don’t grab my attention as much. I did really like Moticia’s mother though- great job with that. Same here, so excited to see the rest of it!

      1. Yaaassss, Grandmama is a pistol! I like her, too!

  13. I’ve yet to watch this season

    1. I hope you enjoy it when you’re able to watch it.

      1. I’m sure I will
As I enjoyed the first season.

  14. Never seen it. Not sure. But great review.

    Glad you’re enjoying the show.

    1. Thanks so much.

  16. We have always enjoyed the Addams family! Especially Wednesday!

    1. Same here, Wednesday is absolutely iconic!

  17. I like the family dynamic, but I get what you’re saying. I feel like the longer the series goes they will focus more on Wednesday, especially like during her college years. shifting from adolescent to adult. I’m loving the cameos like Haley Joel Osment plus Christopher Lloyd. Plus the school colors of Nevermore Academy are the same as the MPS society which brings me so much pride 💜🖤😊👍

    1. Yeah, I think as the show progresses it’ll focus more on Wednesday and her journey. Oh yes, loving all the cameos so far. Ooh nice, I love that 💜🖤

  18. I’m interested in seeing it now that I’ve read your review!

    1. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it, it helps remind us that we’re all unique and that’s okay!

  19. I haven’t seen it, but thank you for the review, Pooja.

    1. My pleasure, thanks.

      1. You’re welcome.

  20. I am waiting for part 2 so I can binge, but I really wish Wednesday/Jenna would stop sucking on that lemon!!

    1. Lol agreed, she looks fine as she is naturally!

  21. I’ve been curious about this show since I’ve been hearing about it so much. Also, I love Lady Gaga, and I know she’s going to be on there.

But I don’t like what Netflix did with Sabrina the Teenage Witch so I’m conflicted.

    1. It’s a really good show if you decide to watch it. What happened with Sabrina the Teenage Witch?

  22. Not much of a TV guy but I did watch The Addams Family every now and then! Thanks for the review and memories!

    1. Happy to share it, The Addams Family was such a classic!

      1. Yes absolutely! Just checked out Wednesday trailer looks good. But on Netflix which I don’t have. Maybe I can catch reruns!

        1. Yeah, hopefully so because it really is good!

  23. Some iconic characters just can’t be replaced.

  24. We saw part 1 and thought it was good. Now we’re waiting on part 2.

    1. We’ve started watching part 2 and so far really enjoying it.

      1. Cool! Good to know. Thank you, Pooja.

        1. You’re welcome, hope you enjoy the rest of the season.

  25. I need to pick Netflix back up soon and check out Wednesday! I definitely felt your qualm about them deviating too much from the main plot with the other characters. Like you said, It’s called WEDNESDAY for a reason. Lol!

    1. Exactly, I wish they would focus on Wednesday a little more. But enjoying part 2 of the season, it’s more Wednesday focused plus moving much faster!

  26. I was a kid when the original Adams Family ran and loved it. I also enjoyed the first season of Wednesday, but this season doesn’t sound too interesting. I also don’t want violence. There’s enough in the real world. Thank you for the great review, Pooja. Love to you.

    1. That’s fair and yes there’s definitely some more violence this season compared to the first season. Thanks so much, lots of love.

  27. Whenever I see this
It reminds me of you for some reason
I remember your review for part 1

    and and now this

    haha

    Haven’t started it
    haha

    1. Oh that’s cool haha, my review for the second part of the season should be out soon too.
