The Fox

adult fox on grass | The Fox

The fox, sly as its name

Lies and deceit it’s favourite game

It plays so well

It’s got you under its spell

When its white lies turned to black

Saying words it can never take back

Destroying all in its path

You thought you were safe from its wrath

Until it’s too late

Don’t sit and wait

Don’t cower

Take back your power

About The Fox:

I know some of you have experienced dealing with a narcissistic person or someone with narcissistic traits because we’ve had that conversation in the comments before. And I’m sure for those of you that have been around those kind of people, this poem may be relatable.

Narcissists have this ability to appear the victim and so helpless. And those of us that have a normal sense of kindness and empathy often fall for their traps. Only to realise that they are more than capable, they just choose to take advantage of those around them and use their strengths and intelligence to ruin lives and cause havoc. I wish that wasn’t my life right now but it is. And that’s what inspired the poem. As I try to navigate through it all, I can’t help but feel defeated at times. But in those moments I need to remember that I’m stronger than I’ve ever been and this too shall someday pass. I hope anyone dealing with something similar remembers that too.

What did you think of the poem? Have you ever had to deal with a narcissist or someone with narcissistic personality traits? Let me know in the comments below because I would absolutely love to hear from you or simply stop by and say hi!

  1. The fox 🦊… the breakdown

  2. Mmmm I like the playfulness in the poem, but also the unveiling too… kudos

    1. Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it 🦊

  3. I think that we give those foxes too much power
Why do we keep making this mistake?

It’s easy to be smart but not wise

    1. “It’s easy to be smart but not wise” That’s the unfortunate truth of being human.

      1. There is a dark humor piece…
Wisdom comes with age, sometimes old age comes alone

        1. Haha very true.

  4. Nicely done

  5. And just like the fox there is a small of deception about them too.

    1. Yes, so true.

  6. I certainly know narcissists cause a lot of damage to those around them. Bully’s who think they are godlike. I might have briefly met some but I can’t tell.

However, I don’t mind foxes, the animal. In a sense coyotes fit the bill better. The last few days we’ve seen several coyote attacks in our neighborhood. They tried to eat small dogs and cats and fought with dog owners walking their dogs. A while our neighbor two houses down had their dog eaten by a coyote.

    1. Yeah, most of us have come across a narcissist or two in our life even if we don’t realise it at the time. I agree, foxes are such sweet creatures they don’t seem sly. I believe they were given a bad reputation as fox hunting was very popular and hunting a nice creature may be more frowned upon than one that has a reputation of being sly. Oh no that’s awful, coyotes sound terrifying. I hope the dogs and owners are okay. I remember when I was a teenager a lion escaped and ate my mom’s friends dog. It was so horrifying.

  10. as you say, you need to remind yourself you’re strong…and each time one feels defeated- rest a bit to rise stronger…

well expressed in your poem, Pooja…🤍

    1. Yeah sometimes we just need a reminder of our strength. Thanks so much 💗

      1. 🌷🤍🌷

  13. It is always harder when you can’t get away from a person like that.

    1. Yup, I totally agree. That’s usually the worst part because they’re always there.

  14. Your poem is superb. Those type people are sly and cunning, and lure you into their trap with no regard for your feelings. I’ve known a few during my lifetime, and even now. Sending you positive vibes, and we must stay strong.

    1. Thank you so much. Yes, that’s exactly it and it sucks when you’re stuck. Appreciate it and absolutely remaining strong is the only thing to do 💗

      1. You’re welcome, Pooja.

  15. What a fantastic poem, Pooja!!

    1. Thank you so much!

  16. Wonderfully written poem, and good message on narcissists.

Lesson to that poem. That type of person really messes up your trust in people.

    1. Absolutely, it causes trust issues and you start doubting yourself so much too.

  18. The fox looks like a prince compared to a narcissist!

    1. Yes, so true!

  19. Taking back one’s power is key.

    1. I totally agree.

  20. Such a good poem, Pooja. I was in business with a narcissist once. It is an incredibly mind-bending situation to deal with. Take back your power is so right on! Best of luck! <3

    1. Thanks so much! It is and so sorry you went through that too. It’s so hard to be around a narcissist and it leaves you with so much trauma.

  21. Great poem, Pooja. We can be mesmerized by charm, only to realize it was yet another scheme.

    1. Yup, absolutely. Thanks so much.

  22. If I may say, I like the poem. It’s clever and tuneful and conveys helpful, urgent messages. I think this would go over well–effectively–say, at a public reading with all ages present. Volpone (the play, the character) means the Fox, I think.

    1. Thank you so much, I’m so glad you liked the poem. Yes, I believe Volpone means to do with foxes.

      1. And the character (Volpone) is a narcissist. And so may testify to the telling poem by you. I hope you have a pleasant weekend.

        1. Very interesting. Thanks so much and you too. I hope your health is better now.

  23. More of a wolf!!

    1. In sheeps clothing!

  24. Our world has many hurtful people, and they do great damage to many in their path. I’m sorry you’ve had to deal with this, Pooja.

    1. Yes, unfortunately so. Thanks so much, I have a good support system so I’m doing okay now.

  25. A motivational and touching poem, well written Pooja, once again you roasted narcissist mind persons brilliiantly, I never like that type of people and try to get away from that particular situation. talking about dog, my cousin brother’s dog has been killed by someone using fried beef filled with safety pin, that’s a sad incident in my life.

    1. Thank you so much. Wow, that is so sad. Poor dog. Some people are so cruel.

      1. Exactly Pooja

  26. A wolf in sheep’s clothing. Boy do we run into those a lot lately. So sad! 😣💖🙏🏼

    1. Yup, unfortunately so! 😫💕

  27. I really hope that you do not have to live with the narcissist. That is not a healthy situation for yourself. Prayers for you Pooj.

    1. Unfortunately, that’s my situation right now but I’m working on it. Thanks so much.

      1. So sorry Pooj. Praying for you.

  28. And when those kind empathetic people stop letting the sly one use and abuse them, we are made out to be the ‘bad guy’. Hang in there, Pooja, I pray you can stay strong in your own power. 💞

    1. Yes, so true. Thank you so much 💗

  29. Whenever I hear or read of the narcicissm it reminds me of a professor. He always like getting praised and pleased. He was strict and rude. I rarely saw him showing empathy towards others.

There were times when I felt vulnerable…I did ask for help, received it sometimes, or not received other times.
I like many things about myself. Does that make me a narcissist?

I know my faluts too. And am critical of myself in many ways.
Largely I’m happy from my life. I have progressed with time.

People in leadership or power roles often transform into a narcissist.

I have some questions from public also:
    • The curruption is there among masses, economic and moral
    • instead of looking at someone’s faults can be look at our own faults
    • there are many things wrong with a narcissist, but it as healthy for us, to get OBSESSED with a narcissist; we can shift our attention to something else, something better

At the end I feel silent. I want to go quiet.
I’m writing these lenthy comments till I’m healthy enough to write them.

    • PEACE to you
    • I hope you find better people in your life.
    • I share my stregth with you.

Don’t let them attack and affect you!
Safeguard yourself. Go immune (be self aware).

    1. Yes, the key feature of narcissism is a lack of empathy. Liking or loving yourself is natural and healthy. The issue occurs when we love ourselves but refuse to see our flaws or work on our flaws and also lack empathy for others. I agree, focusing on ourself helps. Also, I think narcissists seek out leadership or powerful roles, they don’t become narcissists due to the roles.
      Thank you!

      1. Liked the last line. That makes sense.

I was the monitor of my class during Class 12. I didn’t want to take that role. I was forced to accept that.
In class all boys were stronger than me. They controlled how the class runs. My hindi teacher pushed me to take that role.

        • Teachers don’t want to change their rude behaviour.
        • Most students are careless. They regret later when fail to do something meaningful in life.

The situation I was into, I just don’t make sense to me till today.
        It is stupid lol.😂

        1. We’ve all had those kind of experiences growing up 😅
