  6. Great post on a subject I know very well. For 23 years I’ve lived and struggled with the label of being bipolar. Most people don’t have a clue about what it’s like to have such a diagnosis. I usually end up having to understand rather than to be understood!

    1. “I usually end up having to understand rather than to be understood” this is so accurate and something I’ve experienced too.

  7. 🙏🌹

  11. The problem with mental illness is that it is all about sophisticated brain wiring and intricate interactions of brain chemistry all of which is unique to an individual. You cannot snap out of it. We are not in control of our brain chemistry and it is not very well understood. To try for a simple chemical intervention (with a system that is so complex and cascades through many levels) is like using a sledgehammer to knock in a tack. To try brain rewiring (through therapy and behaviour modification) takes time and depends on circumstances. We are not in control. We have to learn what works for us to improve the situation. It is containable but it requires much in the way of assistance and circumstance. The miracle is that many people don’t suffer with some form of mental illness.

  12. George, thank you for sharing your valuable insights on mental health. The fragility of those with mental illness needs to be understood. Thank you, Pooja, for sharing this very important topic.
