How To Instantly Get More Followers On Your WordPress Blog

hands coffee hand laptop | Yet Another Disappointment From WordPress | How To Instantly Get More Followers On Your WordPress Blog

A lot of us on WordPress are only here for the fun of it, that’s how it started out for me too. But as blogging became more popular, people began to be more interested in growing their blog and growing their followers. There are so many reasons why someone would want to grow their followers on WordPress. Maybe they want to socialise more, get their content out to more people, begin making an income from blogging or even all the above. For whatever reason it may be, if you’re looking to instantly get more followers on your WordPress blog, here are some tips on how you can do just that.

Prioritising Tags And Categories

Tags and categories are something I’ve noticed a lot of people don’t pay enough attention to. They don’t seem like a huge deal but the truth is they can actually make or break your post. Other than the quality of your content, tags and categories are the most important thing for your post.

Tags and categories are how algorithms understand content and figure out the right target audience to share than content with. Even if you create really high quality posts, they’re not going to get much traffic if you use the wrong tags and categories. On the other hand, using the right tags and categories can get you hundreds, thousands and even hundreds of thousands of views if your post or posts end up going viral.

Using the correct tags and categories will help drive up your traffic which in turn will increase your followers. And it will be instant. Start using the right tags and categories today and see what a difference it can make for yourself! I already have posts talking about what the “right” tags and categories for your blog are and how to use them so check out the related posts for more information.

SEO Optimisation

Search Engines are your best friend for organic growth especially these days since WordPress is no longer as active as it used to be and views from the Reader have decreased compared to 5 years ago.

I won’t go into too many details on how to make your site SEO friendly because I already have a lot of posts about that. You can use the links in the “related posts” section to view these posts and learn how to make your site SEO friendly. However, be careful because as I mentioned one wrong move can really mess up your site permanently.

Being Active

People sometimes asks me what’s the fastest and most effective way to instantly get more followers on your WordPress blog and without hesitation I always say the same thing- being active. Unlike most social media platforms (ironically) being social is an integral part of WordPress. People here love to socialise, chat, share comments and likes. And they love meeting other people who want to socialise and chat with them. Being active, visiting other blogs, responding to comments on your own blog. These things can help grow your blog really fast. Once people get to know you and like your blog, they most likely will subscribe.

It’s sort of a numbers game. There are so many bloggers on this platform. Most of them don’t follow you because they don’t know you exist not because they don’t like your content. So visiting as many new blogs as possible and interacting with them will get you out there and get you more followers.

Be warned though, please don’t spam people. That will get you blocked/reported real fast.

Good Content

Of course, the most well known secret to growing your following is having good, high quality content. People want to subscribe to blogs that they enjoy. Blogs that share content they can learn from, interact with, be entertained by. They don’t want to read posts that are riddled with errors, incoherent and hard to get through. They don’t want to interact with bloggers that are rude, obnoxious or mean. Unlike most of the internet, manners and compassion still exists on WordPress.

So remember to share content that you feel good about, that you have tried your best with and are confident about. And the right audience will find you.

Conclusion

And that is how to instantly get more followers on your WordPress blog before the year ends. However, I do want to emphasise something. Big growth doesn’t happen overnight unless you’re incredibly lucky. It takes time, patience and a whole lot of hard work. If you’re willing to be patient and put in the time and effort, you will see results. But at the end of the day you should also try to enjoy the process of blogging. It’s all about enjoying what you do.

  1. I give Pooja my highest recommendation, if you want someone to tweak your site, someone who knows what they are doing, she’s your gal! X

    1. Thank you, that’s so kind of you to say! 😊

  2. Alt text is another aspect that is frequently ignored. Using keyword-rich terms in your image alt-text (but never keyword stuffing) has been a game-changer for my SEO rankings.

    1. I so agree, Alt-txt is such a small part of SEO but makes a huge difference in bringing in traffic.

Thank you for this post. It was very interesting, insightful, and helpful. I use tags on every post because, for me, they make it easier to search for topics related to my content, which is mostly Christian-based. Everything else you shared was also very helpful.

I appreciate the subscribers and those who follow the page, but I’m especially grateful for the ones who interact. Their engagement lets me know the message truly reached them, and that means more to me than having a thousand followers.

All glory belongs to God. If He is glorified through the message that is shared and received, then every moment spent here is worth it.

    1. I’m glad the post was helpful and I think as long as you’re using the right tags and limiting them to about 8-10 per post you’ll be able to drive in good traffic.

  4. Growing can be a good thing, both in quality and quantity. One thing I noticed though is that WordPress has become a lot less popular for whatever reason, it’s a slow decline imho.
Don’t mean to be a party pooper just an observation, on a happy note I have also noticed that maybe you could grow in quality rather than quantity.

    1. I completely agree, I think it’s because there’s a lot more social platforms now compared to back when WordPress was most popular. Yes, there’s always room for improvement with quality.

      1. I don’t wanna go elsewhere but the tendency is obvious

        1. Yeah, I love it here but it isn’t what it used to be.

          1. For sure, time flies

  5. I guess I still look on blogging as a fun pass time to check on what others are writing and look for new ideas. If I were to be in it for professional purposes such as selling a product I can see the value of expanding a reading public. I’ve noticed that many request to be attached to my page as a possible means of selling their product and that’s not my interest.

    1. That’s fair, if you’re blogging as a hobby there’s no reason to take on sponsored posts.

  6. Great information, thanks for sharing

    1. Thanks, happy to share it.

  7. That’s what I do, but I’ll keed plugging. Thanks for the advice. 🤣😎🙃

    1. Happy to share it 😊

  8. So what’s up with the followers who only like posts but never, ever, NEVER comment? Are they bots?
Inquiring Minds want to know 😉

    1. Haha that’s actually a great question. I do think some of them are bots and others are spammers. They follow a bunch of sites in a day hoping to get some follows back but never caring to actually interact.

      1. Like, I get the fact that not everyone is going to have something to say on every post, but when they like every post, for months on end, and that is as far as the interaction goes, I’m forced to wonder why they are blogging in the first place.

        1. Yeah, I know what you mean and I agree. It’s odd to silently like every single post but never once leave a comment.

  10. I think interacting with the readers is very important too. Great tips Pooja.

    1. Yes, I think it’s one of the most important aspects of blogging. Thanks so much.

      1. My pleasure

  11. 🙏🌹

    Aum Shanti

  12. This is really good advice. Sometime the end of this year or the beginning of the next year I would like to take the class you offer.

    1. Thanks so much. That would be great. I don’t think I’ll offer the class at the end of the year since December is very busy for me but it should be available starting January.

  13. Great advice and reminders. I definitely need to be more active which seems like a challenge in the summer months.

    1. Thanks so much. I know how you feel, it’s summer in Kenya right now and I feel lazier than usual.

  14. Great stuff

    1. Thank you so much.

  15. This is some great advice, Pooja!

    1. Thanks, hope it helps!

  17. “What advice would you give someone looking to grow their blog?” I would just tell them to come to you. Otherwise, my advice would turn their blog from irrelevance, to…. still irrelevance. lol. They could then call me the leading expert on blogging desolation! LOL!

    1. Aw haha thanks so much! Honestly, not having a solid plan with blogging and sharing what’s in your heart is what got me all these followers and is what keeps me always visiting your site! People love when you blog about topics you love and are passionate about 💗

      1. That’s a really great point! 👍That’s what drew me to you ultimately. So it looks like authenticity wins out again! Just like always! 💗💗💗💗

  18. Such a helpful post! Thank you so much 😊

    1. Thank you so much! ☺️

  19. Thank you for your helpful post, Pooja. As mentioned by others, engagement is also very important.

    1. Happy to share it and totally agree, engagement is really vital.

  20. Thank you! Great advice for this relatively new blogger.

    1. Happy to share the tips and I hope they help!

  21. Wow, this was such a well-written and genuinely helpful post! I love how you broke everything down so clearly — especially the part about tags, categories and being active. Many people overlook those fundamentals, yet they make such a powerful difference in visibility and follower growth.

SEO is definitely something I’m planning to work more on, and your related posts will be super useful for that. I appreciate how encouraging and realistic you are about growth — it takes time, consistency and joy in creating, and your words reinforce that beautifully.

Thank you for sharing such valuable insights! I’m feeling more motivated to optimise my blog and connect more with the community. Looking forward to reading more of your posts! 😊💛
    Keep inspiring!

    1. Thank you so much! I’m glad the post was clear and I hope it helps others trying to grow their blog.

Yes, SEO is hard work but it’s definitely very important for growth especially outside of WP.

Thanks and hope this advice helps! 😊

        You’re very welcome!

  23. 2 cents, Pooj. 1st penny (now discontinued in the USA): WordPress is a business trying (like all of us) to survive in the global economy. The best way is through attention and engagement. As well as satisfied customers. A tough nut to crack and balance to strike. 2nd penny: We all want to be heard and “seen”. And it is a competition!!! There’s only so much time (and money) everyone has. As for myself – I follow about 80 bloggers on WordPress, 120 readers on Goodreads, 30 folks on Substack, and about 80 YouTubers – with some overlap. Not to mention live sports and shows on all the TV platforms. Plus, Real Live People. I can’t do it, it’s too much. Bad for one’s overall health and well being.
So … yeah. I’m glad we found each other early on. I always read your posts. 🙂 Thanks.

    1. Agreed, engagement is really key. Totally, it’s good to have boundaries with how many blogs you follow and it’s best to only follow those you actually want to read and interact with. Thanks so much, I always appreciate you reading and commenting on my posts. 🙂

  24. Great post. I need to put more effort into my blog.

    1. Thanks so much. Yeah but it can be a struggle to find the time and energy to stay consistent.

  25. As a side note to engaging on the platform, joining in on some of the popular prompts can also bring new followers. I don’t join in for that reason, I pick and choose which I’m doing based on what inspires me but I’ve noticed it is an awesome and unexpected benefit.

    1. Yes, that’s very true. It helps us become part of the community and can also introduce us to more people on here.

  26. Great advice a usual, Pooja. Just the other day in a post I was reflecting on how WordPress is indeed different from the rest of the internet as the community here is supportive and kind, for the most part.

    1. Thank you so much. Yes, it’s much more positive and we’re lucky to have this platform!

      1. My pleasure. Yes, we are… even with the glitches and unwanted changes! 😉

  27. Starting engaged is key but breaks are needed for balance and regrouping.
    Remember me? 😹

    1. Haha yes very much agree!

  28. Informative blog

  29. It’s become something of a game that I understand most want to play. But between bots and algorithms, I’d take insightful thought exchange over followers any day. No judgement, just saying.

    1. Yeah, I totally understand what you mean. A lot of people prefer comments and genuine interaction over all else.
