Slate Review And Experience

Slate Review And Experience

Slate was one of the most impressive restaurants we went to in December. The food was incredible, the decoration and vibe was on point and the service was really good too. That’s why I wanted to share my Slate review and experience with all of you today.

If you would like to see a video version of my Slate review and experience, please check out my YouTube video below:

Aesthetics

Like I said, Slate had such a cool vibe. It definitely was one of the more high-end places we visited.

The lighting was really good too for those of you that like to take pics. They also had live music which was really cool.

Food

The food was so amazing. The portions were good, the seasoning was perfect and everything tasted so fresh. I think Slate is probably my second favourite restaurant in Nairobi now.

We began with a couple of starters. We got this miso soup and rice:

And these stuffed mushrooms which were so good one of my cousins (the one with his hand in my pic lol) got another serving of them.

And we got the best sushi I’ve ever had, this vegetarian Maki roll. I don’t know what seasoning they used but wow, it was just incredible.

For the main course we ordered this Vegetarian Jollof Rice which blew our minds, definitely our favourite of the night. Also my first time eating Jollof and I was not disappointed at all.

We got some Black Truffle Mac N’ Cheese which was also quite good. Very creamy:

These Hot Dry Tossed Flat Rice Noodles. Again, perfectly done and so delicious although a bit heavy since they were quite creamy.

And of course, we can’t not order fries lol. They were good but basic.

Final Thoughts

You guys know I go to a lot of great places in Nairobi so when I say this was one of the best, that’s a huge compliment. Everything was an 11/10. Will definitely be going back. I hope you enjoyed my Slate review and experience, more reviews coming soon!

Oh, also funny coincidence. This restaurant was created by the same people that created INTI. I shared my INTI experience during New Years Eve and the food was catered by the people at Slate which is why I think it was so good.

What did you think of my Slate review and experience? Would you go there if you ever had the chance? Let me know in the comments below. Or simply stop by and say hi!

  4. I’m assuming you all share the dishes, or are the portions tiny? I just can’t imagine eating the entire dish and all of them. It seems like a lot of (delicious) food.

    1. Yup, there was five of us sharing. The portions were quite large and we were impressed because most restaurants like this one have tiny portions.

  5. I would eat everything except the mushrooms. Lol. Goodness, it all looks so mouthwatering! And the ambience shone clearly through your pics and in the video.

    1. The mushrooms were good, not too mushroom-y lol. I think you would have loved the sushi as much as I did though, it was the star. And the rice. Thank you!!

  6. Sadly I don’t think I’ll get there but the food looks amazing – as do you, very pretty pictures Pooja

    1. I hope you got your snack haha. Yeah, I think vegetarian options tend to be lover in cholesterol so better for health. Definitely one of the more pricey places we’ve been to but with the portions being quite generous it was worth it. In the end, we only spent about $30-$40 per person.

    1. Thanks so much. Everything was exceptionally good.

      1. You’re welcome, and that’s awesome.

  22. I would go there once a week! hhah Alas, I’ve found nothing of this quality here, and Planta in Miami, which I loved, also closed. Wah.

    1. Oh no sorry to hear that! We had a couple of restaurants called Planta in Canada near the area I was in. They might have been the same franchise.

      1. Maybe so. Sadly it feels like several big vegan places have closed recently, as though it’s hard to stay on trend in the US.

        1. Oh no, that sucks. It’s the opposite here, there’s way more vegetarian and vegan options now.

          1. I hope there will be another wave!

  23. The restaurant is a bit of a hike for me, to say the least, but I do enjoy seeing what people around the world are serving. Fun post, Pooja.

    1. Thanks so much, if you’re ever in Kenya this is the place to go.
