Art Therapy- The Best Kind Of Therapy?

You may have noticed my absence. If you’ve read a few of my last posts, you know I’m particularly busy at the moment. Although I have been busy, don’t worry it’s not been all work. I’ve been having fun indulging in my hobbies too. Recently, I’ve been doing some art therapy- aka creating some art lol.

On Sunday, I got some oil pastels on sale and decided to put them to use. I’ve been seeing oil pastel tutorials online which is what inspired me to get them and try my hand at it. And for the last few days I’ve been following some tutorials and creating these small images. Now, before I share my work please keep in mind that I’ve never really used oil pastels before and I am absolutely not an artist. Plus, I’m not looking for perfection when it comes to art- I just want to have fun and relax. Anyway, here they are:

Art Therapy- The Best Kind Of Therapy?
Art Therapy- The Best Kind Of Therapy?
Art Therapy- The Best Kind Of Therapy?

When I finished these pieces, I thought to myself- I wish I could send them as little postcards to you guys. Like, it would have been so fun to make one a day and send that to someone with a note at the back. Oh well, can’t have it all.

Anyway, that’s all from me today. Is art therapy better than my actual therapy? No, but it’s a hell of a lot cheaper lol.

Have you ever tried oil pastel art? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. Anyway that’s not bad, it’s really nice and looks beautiful 🤩 wow 😮
    That’s awesome 👏 congratulations 🎉

    1. Thanks so much 😊

  2. I love your cheerful art, makes me wanna take out my pastels to mess with them a bit. Art therapy is truly amazing, it’s more than introspective and meditative than it might appear. Definitely makes me feel better about so many insignificant disappointments…

    1. Thanks so much. Definitely give it a go, oil pastels are a lot of fun. Yeah, it gives us a break from everything else.

      1. And who doesn’t need a break? I’m actually at home sick today, expecting snow and listening to Amerika by Kafka

        1. Hope you have a nice break from everything.

  3. The paintings look yummy, Pooja! You can send them to me!

    1. Thank you, if I could I would! 😭

  4. My youngest daughter teaches art therapy and life skills to school kids and has clients in an over 50s retirement home

    1. That’s really great. I’ve been reading The Body Keeps The Score and it has a lot of information about art therapy and how beneficial it can be for those that have a hard time with talk therapy or suffer from PTSD.

  5. Beautiful, Pooja! You created therapy for us all!

  6. brilliant and I am so glad you are doing art Pooj! I bet it is a lot of fun and so relaxing!

    1. Thank you, it definitely is!

  7. I’ve never tried oil pastels. The colors are so vibrant! Well done. I like those cake slices. 😋

    1. They’re so fun to use and a lot easier than any other type of art I’ve tried 😊

      1. Good to know!

  8. Your artwork is so good! 🍎🍐🍊🍑🍒🍰 Omg I didn’t know you were so talented at oil painting. Pooja never ceases to amaze me.

Your paintings would make wonderful little postcards. I’d be more than happy to give you my address but knowing how expensive international mail is…. yeah. 🙇‍♀️

P.S. I would like to get back into sending snail mail. I used to do it often. I miss those days.

    1. Aww thank you so much! 😊 This was my first time using oil pastels and I think they’re just a lot easier to create art with than paint. For real, I wish I could send each item as a mail/postcard but it’s so expensive to send internationally and also our postal service isn’t great 😞

Ooh yes, you definitely should- snail mail is actually so fun.

  9. I love those trees 🌲❤️

    1. Thank you ☺️

  10. They are beautiful paintings.
    This is how Picasso started.*😄

    1. Thank you, haha I don’t think I’ll be the next Picasso but cool to know 😃

  11. Pretty good Pooja! They would make amazing postcards!

    1. Thank you! Ikr I wish I could send them as postcard with a unique, personalised message behind each.

  12. 🙏🌹

    Aum Shanti

  13. Painting can be fun and relaxing!

    1. Yes and it gives us a break from screens!

  14. Love those Pooj. Colours are fab. You are an artist.

    1. Thank you so much!

  15. Such a refreshing, honest post.
Your oil pastel experiments capture the true spirit of art therapy playful, calming, and free from perfection. Creativity like this really is a beautiful (and budget-friendly!) way to unwind. Keep sharing the joy.

    1. Thank you, it’s been a really wonderful experience.

  16. I like the seasonal tree pictures. I had young woman from church do 4 “seasonal maidens” pictures for me and have been posting them on the various equinoxes. Do you think there is any way to get some high res copies of your seasonal trees? and would you be willing to do a collaboration of some sorts? Full credit to you as the author, link back, etc. Let me know if interested.

    1. Thank you so much. Yeah, I would totally be fine with that. I can email you the images of the trees if you like?

      1. That would be great. I don’t know what kind of scanner you have access to, but a high res pix (5000pix +) would work for me.
I can be reached at bookstooge at protonmail dotcom

        1. Awesome, let me check with my cousin (I use his scanner) and get back to you if I can send it at a high resolution 😃

  17. Good work. Also you can have your pictures lithographed then have post cards printed. 🤣😎🙃

    1. Yeah, I did think of that but the problem is that sending the cards would be too expensive 😫

  18. Those look good! Glad you’re still finding time to enjoy your hobbies 🙂

    1. Thank you so much!

Good looking pictures. They would make neat post cards. Glad you are enjoying some time to yourself.

    1. Thanks so much.

  20. “No, but it’s a hell of a lot cheaper lol.” I really appreciated that at the end! LOL! You did an incredible job! Those look so fabulous! 😍

    1. Lol, nothing but the truth! Thank you!! ☺️

  21. It is unbelievable that it’s your first attempt. All are so beautiful and I love the pear and the capsicum. Bravo

    1. Thanks so much. I think the capsicum has been my favourite so far.

      1. It’s so realistic

  22. impressive. I particularly liked the fruit and cake drawings. Maybe it’s the food connection 🙂

    1. Haha I love the food ones too 🙂

  23. Pretty! Cracking out the art things is always a good idea. Good isnt important. Doing it is.

    1. Thank you! For sure, it’s all about enjoying yourself.

  24. I especially admire the colors you select and how you employ them. I appreciate the falling leaves to add some motion to the scenes. The pear, by the way, reminds me of a pear I made of papier-mache when I was a child. And my dog ate the pear later. (Oh, well. Otherwise a very good dog.) I think art therapy is viable, especially when expanded to allow sculpture, music, dance, and drama. And other lively or plastic arts I can’t recall just now. (Writing, say.) Your work in paint is attractive and it sounds helpful for you to have gotten into. I hope you’ll have a truly pleasant weekend. And will paint, when you can and may.

    1. Thank you! I’ve been following tutorials and really enjoy it so far. Oh no, hopefully the dog was okay after that lol. Yeah, I think art brings us so much peace and can be very therapeutic for sure.

      1. Our dog Ralph probably threw up the pieces. But he lived a long life.

        1. Oh good, glad he was okay.

  25. pretty good. Way better than anything I could do

    1. Thank you so much.

  26. Totally digging the art therapy. Your first pieces aren’t bad at all! As an artist myself, I love to indulge in creativity myself, so good for the soul!

    1. Thank you! It is, I just feel so peaceful when I’m doing art.

  27. Love it! I need to appreciate art therapy more.

    1. Thank you! For sure, art is so relaxing.

  28. I am glad you are finding a therapeutic and creative outlet. I do love this line, “Is art therapy better than my actual therapy? No, but it’s a hell of a lot cheaper lol”. 😊

    1. Thanks so much. Lol glad to hear that.

    1. Yes, it’s so helpful to do art and keep our mind busy. It helps with anxiety and the stress of everyday life. I also like that it keeps me away from screens for a while too.

  30. Those are fun renderings, Pooja! Thanks for sharing them. I agree they would make cool postcards. Maybe hang onto them for a time when you’re not so busy, LOL!

    1. Thank you! For sure, they would be so fun to send subscribers since they would be one of a kind and I would enjoy creating them. The problem is our postal service, I don’t know if they would actually get to anyone lol 😂

      1. Well… that could be a problem! 😂

  31. Your art turned out great, Pooja, especially since it’s your first time working with oil pastels. I think post cards are an excellent idea, and I agree, art is excellent therapy.

    1. Thanks so much. Yeah, they’re the perfect size for postcards too but the postal system here isn’t great ☹️

  32. Lovely! The best thing about art is just making it. Perfection doesn’t matter—showing up does., Puja

    1. Thank you and I agree, it’s about just having a good time with it.

  33. 😎😎😎

  34. You truly did your thing here… wow. Smooth with it

    1. Thank you so much 😊

  35. Those trees are beautiful. Incredible

    1. Thank you ☺️

    Christina @ The Bookshelf Corner

These are beautiful drawings! They would definitely be cute as postcards.

    1. Thank you! For sure, I wish international mail was easier and more affordable- I would love to send these out to people.

  37. Ummm excuse me, but those paintings turned out so good!! Yayyy for art therapy. I tend to paint when I’m feeling overwhelmed and it’s a good way to stay focused. The postcard idea sounds lovely too. Hope you’re having a great Valentine’s day.

    1. Aw thank you so much! It’s been fun getting into art again and trying oil pastels for the first time. I did and hope you had a lovely Valentine’s day as well.

  38. I love your artwork. I can paint a wall with a roller, does that count, lol. In high school I got in caught in class drawing caricatures of my school teachers. They were impressed and asked if they could keep them. I lost the ability now and I cannot draw like that to save my soul, lol. Happy Valentines day.

    1. Thank you so much. Lol it counts as long as paint is involved. Ooh that’s cool, I think with art you have to keep practicing or you lose the skill though. Happy Valentine’s Day, hope you had a good one.

  39. Ohhhh! I love this!!! Literally arts has something magic in it! I am always spending time improving and learning about arts!

    1. Thank you!! I agree, art is so fun and relaxing no matter what type of art you do.

  40. Your artwork is super cute, Pooja, and I wish you could send them too! That would surely delay your book though, sending thousands of postcards out. 😀 I think the pink blossoms tree is my favorite, but it’s hard to say! <3

    1. Aw thank you so much! I’m going to the post office this week and if I’m able to send a postcard internationally at an affordable price, I’ll reach out on IG and try to send you the cherry blossom one ☺️

  41. Woooow, the coloring and shading look like true brushstrokes of an artist. I’m so happy you picked this up. I tried it for a while too, so I completely understand the joy it brings. That kind of coloring therapy really is pure bliss.

    1. Thank you so much, yes it can be so much fun and so relaxing.

  42. Carry on and share more artworks 🎨

  43. I once tried arts on my birthday too, with some cheap wine and music and it was so therapeutic. I painted with poster colours and brush. It’s rather unfortunate that i haven’t done it again. I should find time to do it again. I can’t see your artwork, or it’s just me.

    1. It’s really so relaxing, yes definitely try to get back into it. Not sure why you can’t see it but it may be an issue on the Reader, try refreshing or visit my blog directly. So sorry for the inconvenience.

      1. Oh, i can see the artwork now. Girl, you did really good with the artworks. You should do it often.

        1. Aw thank you, I try to do some daily.

  44. These are fabulous, Pooja! 💞 My greatest skill in art are ‘paint by numbers’ lol. 💞

    1. Thank you so much! You should give oil pastels a try, they’re quite easy and fun. If I can do it so can anyone 😅💓

  45. Very nice! impressive, and sounds fun. 🙂

    1. Thank you, it has been 🙂

  46. I’m fascinated with both art and music therapy. A close friend is a music therapists.

    1. I think both can be incredibly helpful especially for people that may not be able to do regular therapy (like people that are non-verbal due to trauma).

  47. Pooja you did an amazing job. Love all the color. I tried oil pastels years ago and enjoyed it too. As for little post cards, Vista Print and Shutter fly are companies that I have used in the past to have things printed up.

    1. Thank you so much. I have companies available here but the issue for me is international shipping. I don’t know if my cards would actually reach anyone as our postal service isn’t great.

      1. Oh, I understand.
