My Thoughts On Every Day I Pause By Susi Bocks

Every Day I Pause By Susi Bocks Review

I’ve followed Susi Bocks on her blog, I Write Her, for many years now. I’m not always able to check out her posts but I try to stop by when I can and she does the same. I’ve always enjoyed her writing and therefore knew I would enjoy the book too. Also, this is only one of her many books. You can find all her books and books she’s been featured in here.

And just a heads-up, I’m bad at reviewing poetry books because it’s hard to review the book overall. But I’ve tried my best.

To begin with, I thought writing something every day as a concept for a book was really cool. I loved that it wasn’t just poetry and included short stories etc. as well. One of my favourites was, Becoming Whole. It was quite relatable because writing and blogging is a refuge for so many of us. A safe space where we can express ourselves and truly be us. Also, a line that I highlighted that made me chuckle but totally agree with too:

“Real people don’t hang with fake bitches anyway.”

100%. Clock it! Sometimes you just have to let the trash take itself out…

Another one that stood out to me was, Freedom From The Past, because that’s the one she wrote on my birthday which is on the 20th of April. It stood out to me because some parts of it were so relatable. Like even the title, leaving the past behind is something I’m actively working on still. It’s so weird but cool how sometimes things just click and connect. I look back at the year this book came out and how much I was struggling with my anxiety and depression that year. And the poem really just fits.

Overall

Overall, I think Susi did a fantastic job with the book. It was well written, an interesting and unique concept, easy to read (I finished the book in a day) and the best part was that we got to see a year in Susi’s life or rather what was going through her mind. She is raw, honest, and very aware.

As a writer, I know it’s not easy to write daily. Even writing six words can be a task on some days. So this is quite an accomplishment to write daily for a year.

I loved the book and would absolutely recommend it to anyone that enjoys poetry and other short writings. I’m sure you would very much enjoy this book too.
