The Summer of Two Movies By Alex Diaz-Granados Review

Background Information

I’ve reviewed multiple books by Alex Diaz-Granados before. You can read the reviews here. And I’ve talked about how I find Jim Garraty’s character particularly interesting. So when Alex told me he had written a short story about a past experience of the character Jim Garraty (the main character in his books), I was quite excited to read it. And I’m glad I did.

I decided to share my review of  The Summer of Two Movies by Alex Diaz-Granados as well because I feel a lot of you would really enjoy it. Especially those of you that have read the books. You can read The Summer of Two Movies here.

The Summer of Two Movies By Alex Diaz-Granados Review

I thought The Summer of Two Movies was a short but interesting and immersive read.

One of my favourite things about Alex’s writing is the descriptiveness. I’m sure I’ve mentioned this on my other reviews too because it’s something that stands out. His writing is neither too descriptive nor lacking proper descriptions. It really helps the reader feel like they are there with Jim, experiencing what he did and seeing what he did.

This might be a bit of a spoiler but the story does include references to Star Wars which if you don’t know the original trilogy is probably my favourite movies of all time. So, that was cool to read because it was a pretty relatable thing.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I really enjoyed The Summer of Two Movies by Alex Diaz-Granados. I thought it was very well written and I loved seeing more of Jim Garraty’s backstory. I would very much recommend reading it on his blog. You can read the short story by clicking here.

I would also recommend reading the books first because it’ll give you better context with Garraty’s character. Alex’s books are available on Amazon, you can purchase them by clicking here.

  1. Thank you so much, Pooj. I’m really glad this little flash piece landed for you the way it did. It was one of those memories that sits just beneath the surface, and writing it felt like opening a window into the earliest version of Jim. Your review captures that feeling beautifully. I appreciate you taking the time to read it — and for giving it such a thoughtful home on your blog.

    1. It was my pleasure and I’m glad you enjoyed the review. I tried to share my thoughts in a way that there weren’t any major spoilers and the reader can still enjoy the story.

    1. Generally, I really am not a huge fan of Sci-Fi either but Star Wars just stood out to me. That’s really cool, I feel like most of us had a memorable experience the first time we watched Star Wars. And it’s awesome that it introduced you to new concepts and a different outlook. That’s what good media does in my opinion.

  5. I enjoyed reading your review and then the narrative at the (other) site. His voice is detailed and engaging. Yours, as always, is specific and friendly and effective. Hey, you got me to go to the other site. I hope you have a grand weekend.

    1. Thank you so much. I’m glad you went over to his site too and enjoyed the review and his story. Have a wonderful weekend too.

  6. Interesting review, Pooja. I’m not a big Star Wars fan, so I’m not sure this book is for me.

    1. The book is mostly not about Star Wars, it’s just the short story I shared but I totally understand. Thanks so much.

  7. Im a Star Wars fan.. a trekkie, too.
Thanks for the share, Pooja. Gonna check out his Amazon page.

    1. I think you’ll like Alex’s writing then. I’ve never gotten into Star Trek, not sure why. Maybe this is my sign to start watching it haha.

      1. Yeah.. get on-board. I think youd enjoy the series.

        1. I think I’d like it too, I’ve been enjoying that genre recently even though I was never really into sci-fi before. I’m still picky and only like some but I feel like I could get into Star Trek.

          1. Yeah… I recently watched all the series. Starting with Enterprise, as the time jumps in production are crazy. And it made the entire catalog flow so much better. Deep space 9 became my favorite, as the characters we really fun.
But I do hope you find a moment to engage with any of them

            1. I absolutely will, I can tell it’s something I’ll get into.
