It’s Been A Long Week

I don’t have much to say because it’s been a pretty long week if I’m being honest. You guys know I like to keep it real on the blog and if I’m keeping it real I’ll admit this has been a bad week actually. You know what’s really difficult? When you go out of your way to better yourself and your life but other people go out of their way to ruin your life, progress, and happiness.

When it comes to narcissistic abuse, people talk about relationships or parents who are narcissistic but not many people talk about what it’s like being stuck with narcissistic siblings. Because they’re family, you can never fully get away from them and they get some kind of sadistic kick from going out of their way to ruin every good thing in your life.

October was supposed to be a really good month. My debut novel is on sale, I finally finished the first draft of my second novel, I have more time for hobbies. But instead it has been overshadowed by horrendous behaviour which had caused both mental and physical health issues for the last few days. That’s why I haven’t been able to post as much.

I know I shouldn’t let narcissists control my behaviour. That I should focus on the positive. But life feels bleak right now. It is what it is. Don’t worry too much though, I have a therapists appointment next week which I’m sure will help. And time heals all wounds eventually. But right now, it sucks. It is what it is.

My first novel, Perfect, is now on sale on Amazon. If you would like to read it, please click here.

  1. I’m so sorry you are having a rough time. If you want a little pick-me-up, check out my last Friday Finds. There’s a little surprise in there for you. Keep your chin up. So many people care about you!

    1. Thank you, will definitely check it out. Really appreciate that!

  2. I’m really sorry you’re stuck dealing with a narcissist and controlling people—that completely ruins the mood 😓 I’ve been going through it too, feeling ghosted again and questioning if I’m just being a burden to everyone. It sucks because this is my only time off. All the plans I made this past week completely fell apart due to a lack of communication, which was entirely out of my control.

    1. It really does ruin everything, it’s exhausting. I’m so sorry to hear that, it sucks putting work into making plans only to be ghosted. I hope you still end up going out and having fun even if it’s without them.

  3. Wow Pooj, I hope the month gets better for you very soon. My thought was to kick these negative people out of my life.

    1. Thanks, I’m doing better now and have been able to let go of the anger I was feeling earlier. I’m generally no contact but since we’re family I’m forced to see them once in a while during functions etc.

      1. 🤙🏻💕

  5. I’m sorry you are going through this distancing yourself from a narcissistic siblings might be the best option in the short while to give yourself some time for your mental health.

    1. Thank you so much. Yes, I am generally no contact but since we’re siblings I have no choice but to be around them sometimes like at functions and stuff and that still sucks. But I’m feeling much better now. Thanks.

  6. Yep, life definitely has its valleys and it sounds like you’re experiencing that at the moment. Hang in there….

    1. Yup, unfortunately we have our ups and downs. But life goes on as it always does.

  7. Sorry for your week, I hope next week is better for you.

    1. Thank you, things are better now.

  8. What a sad situation

    1. Yeah but thankfully life goes on.

  9. Congratulations on completing the first draft of your second novel. You are an inspiration.
Sorry to hear of your family issues. I hope your therapist can help you at your appointment.

    1. Thank you so much. Yeah, I’m sure it’ll help and I’m doing better now after some distance.

  10. I know, my brother 100%

    1. Sorry you have a sibling like this too, it seriously sucks.

      1. You have a tendency by the rest of your family to be considered rock solid, don’t need help, and will always be there.

        1. Exactly, it’s exhausting sometimes always holding everyone else up.

          1. We have drama, we just have learned to deal with it ourselves.

  11. Sorry to hear that your week was not very good — but look at the important side of things. You made it through the week, came out on the other side, and now you can look forward to the time that things get better!

    1. Very true and honestly I’m feeling a lot better now, thanks so much!

  12. I will never understand why people can’t just be decent humans. I am so sorry, Pooja, that your u are having to deal with such awful behavior. Just stay true to yourself. That’s my only advice. Hugs!!

    1. It’s like some people go out of their way to be nasty, it’s exhausting to be around them. Thanks so much, hugs!

  13. I can definitely relate! 😊 Some weeks feel much longer than others. Hope the weekend brings you plenty of rest, peace, and good moments. 🌿✨

    1. Thank you so much, I’m feeling better now! 😊

  14. 🙏🌹

    Aum Shanti

  15. I am sorry about all this. I can imagine that narcisstic siblings is very difficult to deal. You can’t just say goodbye for ever.

    1. Yeah, that’s the problem I still have to deal with them occasionally. But thankfully, life goes on.

  16. Sometimes strength is simply admitting, “This hurts,” while still choosing to move forward. May the difficult days pass, and may your courage, creativity, and peace return stronger than before. 🙏

    1. Thank you so much, really appreciate your kind words 🙏

  17. I’m so sorry sweet friend. Bad and selfish people are always around. Sending you hugs and prayers. Hope the next week is better. 😍

    1. Yes, unfortunately so. But I’m feeling better now. Thank you so much 😊

      1. Take care. My solution is to minimize my contact with such a person, even if family. It really helps

        1. Yeah, I’m trying my best to have as little contact with them as possible.

          1. All the best. 🤗

  18. I’m really so sorry to hear that, Pooja. Wherever we are, narcissistic and negative people are always around. Hope you have a better next week. I always stand with you wholeheartedly, and I always pray for you. 🙏🥰

    1. Yes, unfortunately they’re always around. But we have to keep going and do our best to remain positive. Thank you so much 🙏😊

      1. Very true, we have to do our best to stay positive. You’re most welcome 🙏☺️

  19. A big hug Pooja. Never let anyone bring you down. I had my fair share of experiences in my life. I had some real tough times but look at yourself, what you can achieve, what you are able to do and you realize life is still beautiful, notwithstanding the awful downs. 🤗

    1. Thank you so much. I’m so sorry you went through tough times too but yes we’re able to move past them eventually which is something to be grateful for. Thanks 🤗

      1. You’re most welcome my friend. 🤗

  20. I think the narcissists are jealous of your talents and success. Don’t let them get to you, Pooja. Much love, and hugs!

    1. My therapist thinks it stems from jealousy too but it’s crazy to me that they would waste time ruining my life when they could spend that time and energy making their own lives better. People are so odd sometimes. Thanks so much, hugs!

      1. You’re welcome, and I agree people can be odd at times.

It can be tough listening to the same BS all the time. If you can try and just call them out , be direct. It is hard if itis out of character but it will feel great and probably stop the BS

    1. Yeah, these days I no longer tip toe around that and do say what I need to which I think is the reason they go out of their way to make my life more difficult but I would rather that than not standing up for myself.

Sorry to hear what you are going through. Hope that this month gets better.

    1. Thank you, I hope so too.

  23. Blessings, hugs, and prayers for you, dear girl.

    1. Thank you, much appreciated 🙏

      1. You’re welcome 🤗.

  24. Sympathy with you! I have two brothers who I want so much to be close to again, but they have distanced from us. One from everyone, and one from family. It is a little strange. I was born almost a decade after my brothers, so I am not sure of all that went on. Both my parents have passed and I would like nothing better than to reunite with both of them but I am not sure if it is possible. One brings different politics into the occasion and one just has disappeared. It is sad and I try to make the most of my family from my husband’s side. I understand. Families are different.

    1. Thank you! I’m so sorry to hear that. It’s so difficult to not be close to our siblings but I think sometimes it’s for the best rather than have to beg someone to keep in touch.

  25. I’m well aware of your point and I’m not in receipt of the same experience yet I have been subjected to, what I can only presume is a narcissist, that bipolar disorder has the same symptoms as a narcissist has. It is arguably not the same, well it isn’t, but it does describe the way I feel about the impact it has and how it has this. But, I don’t have prior experience with narcissists so my assumption is purely based on educated observation and I might be way off.

But if you can take one thing from this comment, if you experience the presence of a narcissist and their intention, it is reassuring to know that the person will have no intention whatsoever of being in your presence once you are in heaven as they will be in receipt of their actions in Hell

    1. I do understand the comparison and I guess it can be a similar feeling. Thanks so much.

  26. Sadly, Pooj, I can relate to your issues with narcissistic relatives. It’s almost impossible to avoid them, especially when they’re siblings. I only hope that someday in the not so distant future you can put some distance between the person in question and yourself, and that you’ll find some peace of mind so that you can keep working and writing.

    1. Thanks so much. Yeah, I know you’ve had to deal with a narcissistic sibling too. It really sucks but I think keeping a distance is best. I’ve already made sure to have almost no contact with them but certain things like bigger functions means having to deal with them and it can be exhausting.

  27. being on the receiving end is draining…
    hugs, Pooja … 🤍🤗

    1. You can say that again, so absolutely exhausting. Thanks so much 🤗💗

  28. Sending love and all the positive energy I’ve got. ❤️❤️❤️
It doesn’t magically dissolve the issues, but recognizing the source of familial angst and frustration…being aware…is a strength. One I’d say you have. Take care, dear Pooja! ❤️❤️❤️

    1. Thank you, so appreciated! 🥰❤️

  29. I’m sorry you had a difficult week. Please hang in there and don’t let anyone get you down or hold you back from the progress you’ve made.

    1. Thanks so much. I’m doing better now and trying my best to focus on remaining calm.

  30. My brother is actually supportive and he cares. Though he isn’t very expressive, but his actions align with common interests.
Having an elder brother has helped me to cope up with my parents. In my case, parents are narcissistic or ignorant.

What bothers me more is how some people take me for granted easily. People don’t realise that the other person also deserves to be treated properly (‘treat others the way you want to get treated’).

    Take your time, Pooja.
Leave the space. Develop boundaries. At least spend some hours in a day on your own.
Sadly people are like this only. We can’t do much here. However we need to be aware of what influences us — in ‘an unhealthy way’/bad way.

Not sure what exactly I say or suggest. I don’t know the exact situation.
But I know how it feels to live with someone like that. It is wrong and unokay. I genuinely wish that you slowly develop your personal space — not in a way to cutoff yourself from the all ‘healthy and happy things’ in life… but to resist effectively.

    This shall pass too…
My phone’s wallpaper says: “Shit happens move on” (unless you can do something about it).😅🤣🤣

    1. You’re lucky to have a supportive sibling, I wish I had that but mine only cared when she needed something. Sorry about your parents, it’s hard when it’s the people closest to you.

Thank you so much. I’m usually no contact with her but sometimes I snap. I’m trying to completely ignore such behaviour though.

      1. Lol…I get this feeling that you are my elder sibling or cousin sister from another continent.

        PEACE to us all.💙

        1. Aww haha yeah, I can be like a big sister ☺️

  31. I’m sorry, Pooja. You are clear-headed and see the dynamics clearly, which likely helps in the big picture, but in the short term it’s hurtful and hard. Hugs

    1. Yeah, I thought understanding things better would help but it still hurts sometimes. Still, I feel better knowing that being no contact for the most part is the right choice. Hugs.

  32. Congratulations on completing the first draft on your second novel.. 🤗🤗🤗
Big props, Pooja. Don’t let them steal your mojo. Go on. Dust your shoulders off.
Celebrate another milestone, and kill them with kindness.

    1. Thank you so much, trying to do that and continue to focus on the positive 🤗

  33. Take care, Pooja! Hope the rest of October will be better than the way it started.

    1. Thanks, hope so too!

  34. I get it. I have the same experience with several of my family members. It’s hard to keep your head above water, especially with what you said about letting that control your behavior. Like, there’s no way that situation won’t affect you, and it’s easy for someone to say to pay it no mind. Impossible when you’re constantly surrounded by it. There’s only so much grace a person can give.
Congratulations on your novel and your draft! Take care!

    1. Exactly, it’s so hard to not let it effect you when you’re dealing with it constantly. After a while, it does start to weigh you down. Thank you so much! Sorry you deal with something similar with family members, it really sucks but unfortunately we can’t pick our family. We get what we get.

      1. Yeah, I mean, you could only catch a breath when you’re physically away from it. You cannot seek peace of try to create it for yourself when your immediate environment is creating the unrest. Like, there’s no option.
That’s why it helps, at least, to talk about it, just to not hold it in.
I really really hope it sorts itself out soon. It’s so difficult, but like you said, we get what we get.

        1. I totally agree, it helps a lot to let it all out even if talking doesn’t find a solution.

Thank you so much, I don’t know if things will change any time soon but I’m going to try to remain hopeful.

          1. That’s all we can do, stay patient and hopeful!

  35. Sending hugs, Pooja. 💞

    1. Thank you 💗

  36. I’m so sorry, Pooja. We are lucky if we have solid family members and struggle from the start, if we do not. Love to you.

    1. True, it really does depend on our luck. Thanks, have a wonderful week.

  37. I really hope that things get better…chin up dear Pooja.🧡

    1. Thank you so much 💗

  38. Hope things improve for ya! Sending lots of love, plus i got your book hehe 😀

    1. Omg thank you so much, please let me know your thoughts on it when you read it!

  39. I know what you are talking about. Family is a great way to learn and sometimes the life we get is too short for us to learn to live in harmony. I’m not in touch with my beloved family, they are not helping me feel loved in any way. We tolerate each other when we absolutely have to. Other than that we are just mia
    I can’t say it’s a good thing, it’s just a naked truth

    1. Unfortunately, some family members aren’t meant to be a big part of our life. They don’t bring anything positive to the table. I’m sorry to hear you have a similar struggle.

      1. I gave up a long time ago but aftertaste still lingers

  40. Sorry to hear that your narcissist can’t be avoided. That has to be tough. I hope that you find some peace in your artwork or writing Pooj.

    1. Thanks, yeah I’m doing better now and trying my best to just focus on myself and stuff I enjoy doing.

  41. […] my last post, I talked a little bit about how narcissistic behaviour from a family member has affected my life. […]

  42. If only we could pick our families, right? If maybe we do, so we can learn what we need to learn most and I think that is ultimately love ourselves through the trauma and drama and limit our contact as much as possible.
Omg 😱, Congratulations on finishing your 2nd novel. Now I’m officially jealous but I WP t steal your thunder lol. 😂 Great job!!! 👏 💕💓💕

    1. If only but we only have the cards we’re dealt.
Aww thanks so much, I’m excited for you to read the 2nd one when it’s fully done with editing etc! ☺️

      1. Yes, sooo true.. you’re so welcome.. wow.. send it over soonish lol xxx

  43. Hope you overcome soon, watch comedy movies👍👍👍

    1. Thanks, I watched one with my cousins which really lifted my mood. 😊

      1. Oh great, so happy to hear this

  44. Praying for you, my friend!

    1. Thank you so much!
