Changing Your Routine To Ease Your Anxiety

As you guys know I talk a lot about anxiety and my experience with it on this blog. I have received so much positive feedback from everyone which is so amazing and I really appreciate it. I’ve also received a lot of comments from people who are going through something similar and so I thought I would share what I’ve been doing recently to help ease my anxiety which has really been helping me a lot. Here are ways that changing your routine can ease your anxiety.


You’ve probably heard a lot of people say that technology is bad for people with anxiety or mental illness but I tend to argue against that. I don’t think technology is bad for your anxiety as long as you use it right. There is a lot of stuff that you can do that will worsen your anxiety but there are a lot of benefits too.

For example, I love meditation apps (check out my favourite five here), yoga tutorials, and my recent favourite relaxation/meditation music. At the moment I have been listening to Aroshanti’s ‘Zen Relaxation’ album which is doing wonders for me. It is a mix of Japanese Shakuhachi and Chinese Dizi flutes, echoed with Tibetan chanting which has really been helping me relax. I usually listen to the tracks “Compassion”, “Inner Peace”, and “Inner Illumination” in the morning to help start my day with positivity and calmness and in the evening I usually listen to “Acceptance”, “Stillness of Zen” and “Inner Peace” which has really been helping with my insomnia.


Meditation and yoga both in the morning and evenings is really helpful too and if you suffer from anxiety I would definitely recommend trying to meditate or do yoga for at least a few minutes everyday. Meditation has really helped me calm my mind and regain control of my feelings. Yoga is helping to control my body and mind as well as help me open up and be more in touch with my emotions.


A lot of times we are so preoccupied with our life we forget to slow down and just breathe. Seriously, try sitting down and just taking deep breaths! It is such a wonderful experience and really clears your mind and helps get rid of pent up energy/anxiety. I usually like to listen to “Acceptance” or when I feel stressed out I like to listen to “Searching Within Zen” by Aroshanti which helps me think logically and helps me find solutions to my problems without freaking out. You should definitely try taking a few minutes every morning and night to just relax and calm yourself down.

  1. I agree it depends how we use tech. I have depression/anxiety. I use youtube to listen to music that helps me relax. I enjoy writing, so my blog helps me too.

  4. I like how you incorporated bitmoji’s into this. It’s very creative. My professor adds them to her lecture notes too. As for meditation, I also like guided meditation, specifically “Insight Timer” because Headspace isn’t free anymore.

    I use technology as well even though I have bad anxiety. I tried going without it for two years (I’m still not using FB) and it didn’t improve my mood. I’ll unfollow, mute, delete anything triggering. It’s not perfect but I don’t think I should completely go monk.

      I agree guided meditations are really helpful especially when you’re starting out. And instead of shunning technology we need to learn to filter out things that trigger us and learn to find more positive things online.

  11. Yes, technology isn’t a bad thing! My favorite way to reduce stress is cleaning with music or an audio book on.

  12. I do yoga about 5 times a week. It is part of our Indian tradition so I have been doing it since I was maybe 8. I also like starting my day with a relaxing cup of tea while sitting on my deck and watching nature.

    Just reminding yourself to breathe is also a good idea.

  13. I was curious about the title of your post. My wife has anxiety disorder and change is the last thing she wants. Control and routine are the things that reduce her anxiety, but she already incorporates yoga in her normal routine. Great post!

    1. Thank you! Yes change can be very difficult for people with anxiety and adding these things to my routine felt very uncomfortable at first but now they really help me!

  15. What you say does make sense; routine can be a good thing, but it could just as easily wear on you like crazy if you don’t change things up every now and again.

    1. Absolutely agree! We need to keep adding positive things to our routine to make our lives better!

  17. Thanks for the tips on the apps! I use zen quite a lot as their insomnia meditations have proven really helpful to me. I also find yoga really beneficial, I usually practise two or three times a week but need to incorporate it more into my week and try and do something every day. I did a workout the other night for the first time in months and I forgot how great those endorphins are for depression and anxiety. Great post, and great use of bitmojis!! Thanks ☺️

  18. Thank you gorj, as always your posts are SO useful, kind, well written and relevant. I’m sorry that you have similar anxiety too, I feel for you as know it well. I can say wholeheartedly that these are all the exact same things I’ve been trying to incorporate into my life that have made all the difference. It is this kind of self mastery, self soothing and self care that builds you up and strengthens you for anything that may come up in your life. Yes change is hard and is inevitably met with resistance as us humans always find this a challenge. Though realistically change is perhaps the one true constant, and therefore imperative that we learn to not only cope with it, but master it, or even better revel in it.

Yes unfortunately change is constant and inevitable and for people with anxiety it can be very difficult to cope with change but these things have truly been helping me out and I felt that I needed to share them on my blog so that they could help others too.

    1. Yeah that used to happen to me a lot when I started out- and still happens sometimes- but I kind of decided I’m going to say what I want and if someone doesn’t agree that’s their problem.
