How To Make Readers Return To Your Blog

The Importance Of Making Sure Your Readers Keep Coming Back

It’s important to build an audience if you are planning on monetizing your blog, however, the type of audience you build is also very important especially if you are looking for potential sponsors. Having readers that visit your blog consistently is very important because that means you have a loyal following and that will increase your views in the long run. Having readers who visit your blog only once or twice may increase your following but it does little to increase your traffic. Loyal followers increase your traffic in the long run and show your potential sponsors that you have an organic and responsive following. Here are ways to gain an audience that will consistently visit your blog on a regular basis:

Consistency

Consistency is one of the most important things when you are trying to increase your traffic, following or keep readers coming back to your blog. If a reader does not know when you will post next or if your blog is still active it is very likely that they will follow your blog or return to read more of your content. The best way to remain consistent is to schedule your posts for your optimum time and then post at that time every day/every other day/every week. Don’t put out random posts at random times because this will do a lot more damage than good. There is also a huge difference between posting regularly and spamming people with posts so make sure to not spam people either. This is a huge turn off for readers and will likely cause them to unfollow you. For more on how to schedule your post click here. For more on how to find  the optimum time to post click here.

Engagement

I have noticed that some people don’t reply to comments or engage with their audience. If you are looking to gain loyal readers than you absolutely need to engage with them. People in general, but especially on WordPress, like to socialise and leave their thoughts about the content and if your reader feels ignored and like their thoughts are not being heard it is unlikely that they will come back to your blog. If you want readers to keep coming back make sure they know that they are heard. Reply to comments and even try conversing with them further- you may not only get a reader who keeps coming back but also a friend! Activity

If you want readers to keep coming back to your blog you need to be as active as possible. Being active is really one of the key ways to grow your blog as well as maintain your audience. Firstly, you need to be active on your own blog as discussed above by posting regularly on schedule and always engaging with your readers in the comments section. Secondly, you have to remember that blogging, like most platforms, is very much a two way street. If you want you readers to keep coming back to your blog you need to do the same and keep going back to their blog. If you see someone liking your post/posts and leaving positive comments/feedback remember to do the same. Leave a like/comment or even share posts of theirs that you enjoyed on your blog. This way you can support each others blog and it’s a win-win for both of you.

Marketing

Marketing is a big part of blogging. If you market your blog correctly you can quickly gain a pretty large and loyal following. I want to make it clear that by marketing your blog I do not mean leaving spam comments on other people’s blogs telling them to check out your blog. Spam comments are very unethical and actually do much more damage than good. There are much more ethical ways to grow your blog and gain an audience that keeps revisiting your blog. One of the easiest ways to do this is to use your tags and categories section correctly. When you use these sections properly you are putting your posts out to a much wider audience. For more on how to use your tags and categories sections correctly click here. If you want me to personally pick out tags/categories for specific posts feel free to contact me. As annoying as social media can sometimes be it can also be a great way to market your blog. The next time you post something on your blog try referring your social media followers to the post by leaving an excerpt and link on your social media accounts. If you do this every time you post something you can get a lot of recurring readers from your social media. Another great way to market your blog is to increase your backlinks. You can do so by guest posting on sites that offer guest posting or by leaving your link on share and promote pages that many sites also offer. This will refer new readers to your blog, give you a better SEO rating and some of these readers will eventually become regulars.

Quality

The quality of your post is incredibly important if you want readers to come back to your site regularly. It is okay to have a typo or some grammar mistakes- that’s quite normal- but if you have horrible grammar, spelling and your posts look unprofessional it is quite unlikely that your reader will come back. If the language you have chosen to write in is not your first language make sure to double check your grammar/spellings/etc. The majority of readers get turned off when there are constant mistakes in your writing and it can actually be quite exhausting to read a post that is full of mistakes. They will likely not revisit your blog or will find a blog which is more well written to read and follow instead. To avoid such errors you can use online resources that help you find spelling and grammar mistakes however be very careful with these because they do tend to sometimes pick up on random things that are not actually errors and not pick up actual errors. Having a human proof read your work is always a better idea. I now offer proofreading and editing services so if you are interested feel free to contact me. If the reader enjoys your writing they will continue to return to your blog to read your posts on a regular basis and you will be able to gain a lot more recurring readers.

  1. This is something that has been on my mind recently. Engaging with other blogs and communicating constructively with readers and other bloggers is so important. I’m trying very much to dive into it because so many people have so much worth saying, both when they post to their blogs and comment and engage with mine.
Thank you for sharing your words 🙂

    1. Thank you! Yes engaging with other bloggers and being active on other blogs really is a vital part of growing your audience.

  2. These are great tips. I would like to share this post on my blog before the end of the week. I get the impression that would be alright, but I don’t like to assume. 🙂

  3. Thank you for creating this. It helps me a lot since I am just new to this website builder and unlike in fanfiction.net where I create fanfics, I create completely original content here because I could not find a website where I can do that.
