Her brain moved on but her heart continued to writhe in pain.
I have seen some people do one sentence stories on WordPress and thought I would give it a try. This started out as a six word story. However, it was getting a bit longer than that. I didn’t want to trash the whole idea for another six word story so I decided to make it into a one sentence story instead.
The word of the day today is “writhe.” I usually try to use words that are new to me but this one is far from new to me but I used it anyway. “Writhe” is actually one of my favourite words. In fact, I use it very often in my writing. Not on this blog though lol. I mean like on Wattpad, the stories or poetry I work on myself etc. I just feel like it is such an expressive word. It’s so specific and I love that. All the other languages I speak have such specific words except English so I feel like I can’t always express myself as well in English. But words like this one make me happy.
Anyway, let me know what you think of my first “One Sentence Story” in the comments below. And do share your own One Sentence Story with the word “writhe” in it.

“That’s a very descriptive story, even with it being one sentence, it’s hard to writhe at it’s shortness.”
Hopefully that counts as my one sentence response, but you have great perspective and teach a lot with your passion. Again, thank you!
Thanks so much and I love your one sentence response!
Ah! I think you’re on to something. I volunteer as tribute 🙂
Haha thank you!
Outstanding!
Thank you!
Amazing 🤍✨
Thank you 😊
“She writhed at the bare idea that he might pay court to some girl” (W. Somerset Maugham).
Oh wow, that’s a great one. Hadn’t read it before.
Her legs were writhing in pain, her heart was writhing in joy! Hugs, C
I know this one is from personal experience 😂
I’ve never used writhe before even though my heart did experience the agony while other organs were fine.
Yes, writhe is a specific word so it’s not something people use often. I just love it so I try to add it to random writings lol.
❣️❣️
😊
Amazing, it’s a great idea to share one sentence story 👍🏻
Thanks so much 😊
I like the one sentence story, it has lots of feeling in that one word; writhe. I will use that word sometime.
True, I think that word brings out a very strong feeling.
It really does.
Yess, i love the word writhe too. Though i never had a problem with not finding enough words to express myself in English, i always think English vocabulary is huge 😂.
Loved the story, it’s amazing! 🤩
Haha I think because I speak four other very expressive languages I find it hard to say certain things in English 😂
Thank you 😊
Four languages! That’s amazing
Thanks!
Writhing in the twists of fate, her screams sent agony waves of pain to all who could hear, all wincing, remembering their own worst nightmare, the one they had as a fragile child, unloved, un-hugged, unending pain, this explosion against hope on a battlefield of futility, the curl of the cobra, the fatal bite of charming nature who is mostly the domain of predators, and the victims never rise but writhe until death separates them from pain and the evils of a twist.
Wow, that was a great short story in one sentence.
Hmm, about the lacking in languages: It appears that Google is not too bad in Swahili:
=============
As she screamed at fate, her scream sent waves of pain to all who could hear, all trembling, remembering their worst nightmare, the one they had as a weak child, unloved, merciless, endless pain, this explosion against hope. the battlefield of futility, the writhing of serpents, the death-sting of a delightful nature which is more the field of predators, and the victims never wither but writhe until death separates them from pain and writhing evil.
Hmm the Swahili isn’t that bad minus some grammar problems.
I’m just curious… What are the languages that you know that are more expressive for you than English? I only have a slight idea about it by playing with Google. Sometimes I think that there are thoughts that I have in English that can’t even be expressed in some other languages. It just seems odd sometimes when Google refuses to translate “his thing and her thing,” or where you can’t say “She does something” and can only say ” He/she/it does something.” Somethings that I like to do in English with dependent clauses to make a long sentences can be totally chaotic in other languages it seems like. I think it has something to do with not being clear about what a particular dependent clause is modifying. Similarly, I suppose you experience impossible things in the other direction.
I think Gujarati and German are more expressive, like I can say things more specifically in those languages. But yeah it works the other way too where I can’t translate certain things properly from English to the other languages.
Very interesting. So many fonts. So much to say. So little time to be understood.
મને આશ્ચર્ય થાય છે કે હું શું કહી શકું જો હું જાણું કે મારા હૃદયમાંથી તમને શું શાણપણ પીરસવામાં આવશે.
I apologize if I accidentally cursed or something. I usually have no idea what I’m saying. Oh well.
Lol you didn’t curse or anything but that sentence is so incredibly formal I feel like an old person 😂
That sentence alone was deep.
Oh, and you’re on Wattpad?
Thank you. Yes, I was writing on Wattpad for a while.
I prefer to read short stories!
Same here!
Memories of her writhes my heart.
One sentence stories could make me an awesome speed reader. 😉
Wow, loved your sentence. Haha I’ve always said the classics need to be rewritten into one sentence stories 😂
Yes, I agree. I don’t have time for all those extra lines. 😂
No one does these days, it would make life so much easier to just get rid of them 😜
Love the concept 🤍
Beautiful story.
Thank you 😊
Forming a sentence with writhe feels hard.😬❤️
And yet you were able to create one 😉💕
Nice Post
Thanks
Thank you.
I read a book of 100 word stories last summer, it’s amazing the depth a story can have with a few words. I feel her pain instantly, so you did a great job with those details.
Thank you. Yes, I always enjoy such short stories.
Absolutely love this! ♥️
Thanks so much! 😊
The soul never heals as long aswe writhe in our self pity. 🤣😎🙃
I’m never healing 😂
But you can now that you know 🤣😎🙃
I’m just choosing not to 😬
OK then 👌 🤣😎🙃
Lovely 💞
Thank you ☺️
I use that word every once in a while. I do like that word.
It’s a very interesting word to use.
Outstanding post, Pooja! ♡
Thank you so much! 😊
With no one nearby to help, she could only whisper soothing words and hold his hand until the writhing, as well as his shallow breathing, had stopped.
Oh wow, loved that.
Serein’s touch elicited the passion in which we writhe.
Oh wow, that’s a great one sentence story.
I’m glad you enjoyed. It’s all yours. Have a wonderful day and keep it up.
Thanks so much.
I love the idea! And sometimes we writhe in what we think is true pain when it is only momentary discomfort.
Thank you so much and yes absolutely.
Love your one sentence story.
Thanks so much.
