Increasing Your On-Page SEO
By now, you have probably heard about SEO and how beneficial it can be for your site. SEO or Search Engine Optimisation can either make or break your site. Having good SEO practices can lead to an increase in traffic from Search Engines. It can also consequently lead to an increase in following. On the other hand, your site not being SEO friendly can lead to less traffic and followers.
SEO is generally measured in two different ways, general/overall SEO and on-page SEO. Since I already have a number of posts on how to increase overall SEO, I thought today we could focus on how to increase your on-page SEO which does lead to an increase in overall SEO too.
What Is On-Page SEO?
“On-page SEO is a fundamental part of everyday SEO. They are the on-page factors that can make or break your SEO success.
On-page SEO is the practice of optimizing elements on web pages for SEO– but it’s more complicated than you might think.
It’s an overarching name for the combination of technical and content SEO that revolves around optimizing individual pages. This practice includes content, but also meta-tags, titles, links and anchor text, and more.
On-page SEO has changed a lot since the beginnings of search engines– while some of the fundamentals stay the same. Having core competency in on-page SEO while keeping up with newer techniques is invaluable to keeping your competitive edge.”

How To Increase Your On-Page SEO
Now that you have a better understanding of what on-page SEO is and why it is important, lets get into how we can increase our on-page SEO. These methods are how I increased my SEO and how you can too.
Keywords/Key Phrase
Keywords, sometimes also referred to as key phrases are absolutely vital for on-page SEO. A keyword or a key phrase is the word or phrase that you are hoping your post will rank for. In more simple words, it is a word or group of words that describe the topic of the post. When people search these words on a Search Engine you are hoping your post will pop up. For example, if you have recipe post with a vegan lasagna recipe your keywords will be “vegan lasagna recipe.”
The first thing you want to do when writing a post is to figure out what your keyword or key phrase is going to be. Once you have figured that out, make sure this keyword or key phrase is in your title and in the first paragraph of your post. You also want to make sure to try to use this word or phrase a few times in the post itself but not too many times. If you use the keyword or key phrase too many times Search Engines will mistakenly mark your post as spam.
On more thing you want to keep in mind about keywords and key phrases is that you want to pick those that are popular but not so popular that it is near impossible to rank very high for them. You want to find that sweet spot in the middle.
Subheadings
Subheadings are very important for on-page SEO and just SEO in general. In fact, Search Engines often favour posts with more subheadings. According to the latest information on SEO, it is advised that you use subheadings each time your post becomes longer than 300 words. That means use subheadings between every 300 words max. It’s okay to use subheadings after less than 300 words but make sure no section of your post is more than 300 words. Because that will make it less reader friendly which will subsequently decrease your SEO.
Another thing to remember with subheadings goes back to keywords and key phrases. You want to use your keyword or key phrase at least once in a subheading. This makes your post more SEO friendly. Don’t ask me why, I’m not a Search Engine and SEO makes no sense to me. But the crawl bots love it.
Images
It is highly recommended that you use at least one image in each of your posts. The more images you use the better but you should attempt to have at least one. And using images alone is often not enough. How you use these images makes a big difference too.
When you open the image to edit, you will notice an option for “Alternative Text” as well as other options such as “Image Title Attribute.” This may sound very foreign but these features are very important. They tell Search Engines what this image is and what it is about. Search Engines than show your images in the results when people search for your keyword or key phrase. Make sure not to leave these sections empty or you will miss out on a lot of Search Engine traffic. You can get a lot of traffic from images and it’s a good idea to take advantage of that since it’s pretty simple.
Conclusion
I hope you enjoyed this post about “How To Increase Your On-Page SEO.” I know that a lot of my readers enjoy my posts about SEO. In fact, they are some of my most popular posts. As you may have noticed, I always try to keep it very simple and not too tech-y. Most SEO posts are very unnecessarily complicated and that’s something I personally struggled with when I started learning about SEO. That’s why I wanted to create posts everyone can follow along with. Because I know the majority of us are not pros at technology related things.
