If you actively appreciate the importance of supporting your mental health, it should be clear that the home deserves a lot of attention. The value of mental health days cannot be emphasized enough. Frankly, though, you won’t always know when one is required. As such, knowing how to consciously recharge your mental health without leaving the home is a wonderful thing. Especially with the economy the way it is these days. So, I thought I would share some tips to recharge your mental health at home.

You guys know how much mental health means to me. As someone who has both anxiety and depression, mental health is something I take very seriously. And since I work from home, a big part of recharging my mental health is done at home during my free time.

I thought I would share some of these tips with you. So, here are five top tips to recharge your mental health at home.

#1. Meditate

If you feel the need to recharge your mental health, the first thing you must do is shut off from the current stresses. A few minutes of meditation can help lift a weight of stress from your shoulders. All you need is a clear space, a yoga mat, and suitable music. This will allow you to tap into inner peace through deep breathing exercises and other simple concepts. It is the ultimate starting point to reduce your stress levels.

Many people make this a daily ritual. Even if you only use it when stress levels are noticeably high, the rewards will be clear. I’ve mentioned meditation in almost all my posts about mental health because it really does make a huge difference. Although it’s something you see results for longterm, it’s definitely worth the wait.

#2. Delight the taste buds

There is nothing quite like tucking into a tasty treat that delights the taste buds. A few minutes of cooking is calming, but you don’t want to lose the whole day to cooking and cleaning up. If you’re like me and hate cleaning, easy and quick recipes are your go-to. This microwave peanut brittle recipe is a great choice. The satisfaction of making the meal will raise a smile while the eating experience will take your joy to even greater heights. It is the least that you deserve.

And if the tasty treats are shared with your family, this will bring an additional source of enjoyment to your life.

#3. Speak

When you encounter mental health issues, the worst thing you can do is bottle it inside. I’ve been there, done that and trust me it helps no one. While the home rituals can help you relieve some of the symptoms, the threat of not speaking about your issues is greatly increased. However, you can connect to others with similar issues through forums and other online channels. This includes web-based mental health professionals.

Alternatively, you can pick up the telephone and call a friend. Getting things off of your chest will seriously aid your cause.

#4. Pamper yourself

Looking good makes you feel good. Not least when you focus on natural and calming beauty rituals. A cucumber face mask ritual can be particularly beneficial, leaving you with revitalized skin and a youthful glow. Meanwhile, taking the time to fix your nails or give your teeth a truly deep clean, the rewards will soon shine through. It is a lot cheaper than visiting a spa or professional service.

Besides, simply investing a little time into yourself can transform your mindset, especially when you’ve had a tough time.

#5. Get a good night’s sleep

All of the above steps can help reduce stress and put you in a more positive mindset. However, you should never overlook the importance of getting a good night’s sleep. After all, this covers one-third of your day and will actively regulate cortisol levels. To complete your day of recharging in style, you should turn off all screens for at least an hour and go to sleep at a reasonable time. You will wake up feeling brand new.

For the best results, though, you must embrace winning sleep patterns as an ongoing priority.

Conclusion

I hope these tips to recharge your mental health at home were helpful. A lot of posts about self-care often talk about expensive ways that help your self-care. But I think it’s absolutely possible to recharge your mental health without paying lots of money. And that’s why I tried to include tips that are free or very low cost.

Do you try use any of these tips? What helps you recharge your mental health at home? Let me know in the comments below because you know I always love hearing from you guys. Or simply stop by and say hi!

  1. You’ve got this figured out, Pooja! ❤️

    1. Thank you! ❤️

  2. I do all these but sleep! 😭😭😭 Why can’t I just sleep well??? I woke up today from a weird nightmarish-dream of something I’d never do that was mildly painful! It was so weird too.😭 I cannot drink highly caffeinated drinks or chicken at night because of dreams. Can’t eat nothing.

    1. I know what you mean, sleeping is the most difficult for me too and it took me ages to change my sleeping habits. I still can’t drink anything with caffeine or it ruins my entire night 😥 Try drinking chamomile or peppermint tea before bed. That’s helped improve my sleep a lot.

      1. Good idea.

I also am stuck with a catch-22 of not sleeping so I’m not mentally stable and I’m not mentally stable so I can’t get sleep.

        1. Oof been there, most of my university was the same for me actually.

          1. 😂 60% of my issues are from uni right now.

            1. Understandable 😅

  3. I seriously thought about taking a mental health day today. My job can be overwhelming. Answering emails everyday and making sure that everything is perfect takes a toll on the mental and emotional health. The company that I work for is strict.

    1. That sounds very demanding so I can understand why you are feeling overwhelmed. Hopefully, you can indulge in some self-care soon.

  4. I sleep and I eat. It’s luxuries I can afford, I am trying to cook and talk to others. It helps most of the time. Sometimes I think it’s more important to eliminate toxicity than try and cope with the consequences. It’s not always in our control but sometimes we can reduce exposure.

    1. Yes, I have been trying to cut out toxic people/things as much as I can and that definitely does help. I think cooking and writing are definitely great for self-care too.

  5. I like food.

    1. Me too, as long as I don’t have to do the cleaning after cooking…

      1. I just let the dishes pile up next to the sink, like a real adult.

        1. Yes, of course. All adults do that.

  6. This is a great article for mental health month. I meditated this morning.

    1. That’s awesome, meditation really helps start your day in a positive way.

  7. Hi! Great post, Pooja, thank you.

All really good advice. Meditation- yes, almost every morning and night… sometimes live sessions but usually the Balance app which is fantastic. Treats- oh yes please, am in for that. Speak- I’m working on it, and am lucky to have some supportive people in my life. Pamper- for sure. I might even try the cucumber mask, lol. Sleep- I’m pretty careful about keeping a regular habit. If I wake up in the night I just get up for a while and don’t sweat it like I used to when working, since I don’t usually have to be anywhere early.

I agree with everything you’ve shared here and hope it continues working for you. 🙏🏼

    1. Thanks so much!

So glad you’re properly taking care of yourself and recharge it. Would definitely recommend that cucumber mask, it’s life changing lol.

      1. My pleasure!

  8. These are great. I have often thought about meditating, might be time to finally try it.

    1. Definitely give it a try. It’s tough at first but over time it helps so much.

  9. I am a shift worker, so sleep is my biggest challenge. I play piano at the end of the day, and it helps me unwind. Playing and singing “Golden Slumbers” by the Beatles or “The Dance” by Garth Brooks and Tony Arata on the piano is the most relaxing for me.

    1. That definitely sounds like a wonderful way to relax after a long day.

  10. These are great tips! Pamper yourself!

    1. Thank you so much!

  11. Good tips for a healthy life

    1. Thanks so much.

  12. great tips

    1. Thank you

      1. your welcome… cheers

  13. Personally a good night’s rest is tough. But I always push for 5 hours at least. Everything else is bonus…. the face masks, oh yessssssss, I am all for it. Meditate and excite the taste buds are my forever favorites.

    1. Yeah, sleep I think is the toughest one but also super important. I think 5 hours isn’t too bad but for me I always aim for 7 hours. I get cranky otherwise lol.

      1. Oh yea, the crankiness is what I was in today. I was on 2 hours of rest and had a 18 hour day to pile through. brutal.

        1. That sounds awful. Hope you can get some rest and proper sleep tonight.

  14. Great share PG

    It will help people

    1. Thank you and I hope so.

  15. We enjoy reading your blog! Your unique perspective and real voice are game-changers in the world. Keep creating, because your thoughts have a lasting impact. Thank you for being yourself!

    Thanks – TheDogGod

    1. Thank you so much!

  16. I agree speaking is crucial in the struggle with oneself, but relieving the soul to a friend is a big no from me. I had so many negative experiences with any attempt to open my soul to my friends, and I realized one thing – they can’t understand me because they have never been there. And that’s fine. However, I found a professional help, and it works fine for me.
Besides, taking care of myself is really helpful when I struggle mentally.

    Great article, as always, Pooja!

    1. Sorry to hear that talking to friends didn’t help you. I was lucky enough to have friends that were extremely understanding of my mental health situation but I know that’s not always the case. Glad you found a professional that is helpful because we all need someone when we’re struggling.
      Thank you!

  17. Good advice – and know you’re not alone – millions of people feel the same. We can help each other!

    1. Thank you and yes absolutely, we need to all look out for one another!

  18. I really appreciate this one, Pooja. I have also struggled with depression and anxiety. Breathing exercises and meditation can help so much. I used to meditate regularly but somehow got out of the habit. I hope I can start meditating every day again, even if only for a few minutes. 🤍

Oh, and if I might add one more helpful practice, it’s exercise! Even if it’s light like walking or qigong. 🙂

    1. Thank you so much. Yes, both breathing exercises and meditation are great especially for anxiety. Daily meditation is definitely very helpful so I hope you can get back to doing that too.

True, exercise is great. I do yoga and take walks daily!

  19. Great tips! I really need to encourage myself to meditate since that’s like one of the most popular ways to help with stress. Honestly I just like to rot in my bed😂

    1. Thank you so much! Lol rotting in bed can be therapeutic too 😅

  20. Wonderful tips that can be easily included in everyday life. I consider doing daily morning prayer as meditation. Even if just for few minutes but it calms my senses before I go out in the busy world. Prayer also gives me hope and strength. 🙏

    1. Thank you so much. Yes, prayer can be like meditation for some and often helps calm the mind.

  21. I do all the opposites🥴😂

    Great share, Pooja🤍✨

    1. Lol, at least you know what not to do 😅

      1. working on it😁

  22. Thank You Pooja for the tips! I really need them. Have a nice day🤗

    1. Happy to share them and have a nice day too! 🤗

  23. Absolutely right! By following these simple and almost cost-free tips, one can easily recharge their metal health. Meditation and proper sleep have always been recommended to free one’s mind of unnecessary stress. Likewise, the importance of speaking to someone cannot be underestimated.
Mental health is of utmost importance and the bloggers must keep writing on this subject.

    1. Thanks so much. I completely agree about meditation and speaking to someone. Mental health is definitely something we need to talk about more openly.

  24. Wonderful suggestions! I do some of them, as I too am home a lot these days since I retired and will try the others here! Thank you for your posts, I greatly enjoy reading them. Mental Health is a important topic to me and learning new tools to manage the symptoms is also important. I hope you have a fantastic day!

    1. Thank you! And sorry for the late reply, your comment was stuck in my spam. I so agree, it’s so important to talk/share about mental health. Glad you enjoyed the post and let me know if you try these tips in the future! Have a great day too!

  25. Great post Pooja. It’s so important to recharge

    1. Thank you and I so agree.

  26. Great advice!!

    1. Thank you!

  27. Very needful informative. Thank you for sharing.I follow all of these.

    1. Thank you so much and glad you follow them.

  28. Good advice!

    1. Thank you!

  29. Thanks for these tips. I need more sleep.

    1. My pleasure and hope you get some good sleep soon.

  30. Hi Pooja,
This blog post, certainly, is very helpful. It makes me aware about my mental health.
Taking a proper good night sleep is the core of it, in my case.
I’m able to avoid unnecessary mental disturbances and negative thoughts.
Thank you so much for sharing!
    P. S.: Reading your blog posts increases my happiness 10x.😊

    1. Thank you so much. Yes, these little things affect our mental health a lot. So be careful with your sleep patterns.
      Happy to hear that 😊

  31. I love these tips! We can use them regularly in our lives and don’t need to wait until special occasions to take care of ourselves, or wait until we feel really terrible! Regular mental health maintenance routines can help us feeling good and can do a lot to prevent those deep dives!

    1. Thanks so much and yeah I think regular mental health maintenance is so vital because you don’t need to feel burnt out till you take your mental health into account.

      1. Right? Too often we have this “I don’t really deserve it” mentality, and our utter exhaustion is the signpost of having “worked hard enough to deserve it” viewpoint.

If we just shift our thinking a little, and say to ourselves “I work hard at what I do, and I need to take care of myself so I can continue!”

        Small shifts, big changes!

        1. Yes, absolutely. At first it’s hard because it feels selfish but self-care is so vital and not at all selfish.

          1. Absolutely yes! We can make these little mind shifts and they can be very helpful to us!

  32. I find a walk in the woods, amongst trees, wildlife and the natural environment, is a great way to reset and recharge.

    1. That sounds lovely and yeah being in nature definitely helps many of us feel recharged.

  33. I thought for sure it was to paint hearts on your legs in cappuccino foam and have your dog lick it off.. ha🐶

    1. Haha that too of course!

  34. I have used some of these tips can say that they help a lot.

The one thing that I have learnt is to talk to the right person. Our friends are great but not all of them can handle what we maybe going through.
I remember an incident where I opened up to someone, only for them to send me back to depression a few weeks later.

    1. Yes, talking to someone who we trust can definitely help a lot. I’ve noticed that too. But of course, it has to be the right person.

  35. Thank you for sharing, Pooja

    1. My pleasure, thanks for stoping by.

  36. #6 Laugh!! Nothing makes you feel better than laughter. Find a comedian you like and listen often. I like Abbot and Costello, Jim Gafigan or Mr. Ohh!. Then again I’m biased 🤣😎🙃

    1. Haha well, I Mr. Ohh always makes me laugh so I think you’re right 😅

  37. Great tips for good mental health.

    1. Thank you so much.

  38. Haha, #2 and #3 are my favorite. Actually I just got off phone with my friend who are having a little bit of crisis and I am glad that I have talked with her for one and half hours. LOL. Yes, talking with friends and eating good food are wonderful methods.

    1. Agreed, nothing beats talking to a friend and having good food.

  39. Very good tips Pooj. Two things I like to do to take my mind off of things is watch a good movie or do something crafty like paint or beadwork.

    1. Those are definitely great distractions. Sometimes it’s good to distract yourself and calm down for a while. Thanks.
