Maya Angelou Quote

Maya Angelou is someone I really look up to. I read her book “I Know Why The Cage Bird Sings” when I was in high school. This introduced me to her and her writing. I’ve read quite a few things by and about her since then and she’s definitely a very inspiring person. So, I decided to share some quotes by Maya Angelou today to inspire everyone this week. Hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

What’s Up With Me?

I straight up had food poisoning y’all. Except it was lipstick poisoning because I was poisoned by my lipstick and not food. This is what I get for forgetting to throw away expired makeup. Seriously you guys, don’t use expired makeup! I’m okay now though. Thankfully. And that lipstick has been thrown away although I was planning on keeping it to threaten my sister with. But she’s been nice to me today so I ended up throwing it away.

In other news, there have been even more changes to the WordPress Reader. We can now reblog comments which basically means we can respond to comments with an entire post. Sure, they can’t solve basic glitches for like months but we can finally reblog comments! The one thing no one asked for on this platform…

How has your week been so far? What have you been up to lately? Anything new in your life? Let me know in the comments below because I would love to hear from you. Or simply stop by and say hi!

  1. Yes, Pooja! She is a very famous author and civil rights activist. And she is also an American poet too. All of her books are full of human rights and women’s rights. I also read some of her books.

  2. Poisoned by lipstick? That’s a new one for me, Pooja! I’m glad that you are feeling better now, and please don’t poison your sister! 😂❤️

  3. I’m sorry you were sick and for the reason. I’m relieved to know you’re better now. And letting your sister off the hook. The heatwave here broke. The weather is hot but appropriate for summer (eighties, lower humidity). Friends took me out last night to view a line of lights that would have Elon Musk’s satellites for greater Internet service. But there was cloud cover, and I decided my friends weren’t hoaxing me. I hope your back-to-healthy week will go splendidly.

  4. I never heard of lipstick poisoning. Threatening a sister with poisoned lipstick sounds like a good plot for a crime novel, lol. Glad that you and your sister are okay :). Loved the quotes.

    1. You have to be careful with makeup and throw it out when it expires. It’s happened to me once before with the same lipstick but I forgot to throw it out that time. It was about five years old but I’m pretty sure it’s spoilt or something.

  5. I’m…okay. Not terribly fine, but not desperately dire, either. Right now, my main focus is on my novel, and as long as I have to keep my mind off the other things I worry about, I’ll be okay. (Of course, writing a novel comes with its own set of stressors, so…)

I’m glad you threw out that expired lipstick. People tend to forget what lipstick is made from stuff that doesn’t last forever…and thus, they get lipstick poisoning. Hope you feel 1000% better tomorrow.

    1. Sorry to hear that and hope you feel better. Good to hear you’re concentrating on your novel even though of course it is stressful in a different way.

Yeah, all makeup expires and it’s a good idea to throw it out when it’s expired.

  6. … the cage was left open. It’s former owner departed and so when passerby’s stop and questioned why I hadn’t flown away, I swiftly pointed out that if I was free to leave, then I was free to stay and make that cage my home instead of my prison simply by having my own choice. In the end… I trumpeted in freedom.

  7. Great quotes there Pooja and I can see why you like reading the book of Maya since it does inspire you one way or the other. I agree with the quote about “I don’t just aim to survive but thrive and with some passions”. Also, it is funny to read about the lip poisoning, wow, for a second I thought you were going to say you have only a few hours to live and then you kick the bucket, I was going to miss you😭😂.

    Have a great day💯

    1. Yes, she was absolutely amazing. Such an inspiring person.

Lol, luckily the lipstick poisoning wasn’t that bad 😅
Have a great day too 😊

  8. Loved the quotes! Maya Angelou was and still is a very inspiring person.

That’s too bad about the poisoning… I never knew lipstick could do that!

    1. Absolutely, she’s very much still an inspiration for many of us.

My other lipsticks never to that, just this one specifically. It’s so weird 😳

  9. So, the great and powerful WP has finally solved a problem that NO ONE and I mean NO ONE, has worried about? That is just like them. What a bunch of punters.

Well, at least you made it through your poisoning. I had no idea make up could even expire. I always thought it was like sunscreen or something that just lasts forever 🙂

          1. I just got home n Mrs B informed me that yes, sunscreen expires n she’s been keeping us in the good stuff. Apparently I’m the only one who didn’t know! Hahahahaha 🙂

  10. I love Maya Angelou too. She went through so much in her life and still managed to go on to achieve amazing things. Oof, sorry you were poisoned by lipstick. To be honest, I didn’t even know that was possible. I hope you’re feeling better now. I’ve been working hard this week because I just got back from a week’s holiday in Prague and I have a LOT to catch up on (including blog stuff). I don’t know for sure but I think WP might’ve added the reblog comment feature to make this a more ‘social media’-like platform where if someone writes a hate comment you can reblog it and write a blog response or write a response to something interesting someone has said, etc. a bit like retweeting. It’s funny because I don’t think that’s what most bloggers use WP for.

    1. Absolutely, she had a really difficult life and she still came out stronger. She’s such an inspiration.

Thanks. I didn’t know it was possible either since none of my other lipsticks do that but this one has caused me issues twice so I threw it out.
Hope you had a lovely holiday. Prague is so beautiful.
Yup, the feature is something similar to what social media apps have. However, WP isn’t like other social media platforms so it’s unlikely that this feature will be used much.

  11. As for how I’m doing, check out my blog! This is your blog and I won’t write about me when I’m celebrating YOU! Hugs, xo
But in regard to your lip stick fail ….
I am a minimalist with make-up! I buy one of each item (lip gloss, eye shadow, mascara, eye liner) and use it until it’s finished so I don’t have those expired problems. I mark on the calendar 6 months for mascara and eye liner, then discard and buy new. All vegan. All cruelty free. All natural. No worries 🙂

    1. I’m much more minimalist now but this particular lipstick was a free sample I had been using. Unfortunately, I forgot to throw it out the last time I used it and got sick. It’s vegan and cruelty free as well, the whole brand is but I guess this one is spoilt or something now. Using vegan and natural products is honestly the best way to go. My skin feels so much better now that I don’t use products with harsh chemicals anymore.

      1. I lucked out in the skin department, inheriting my grandmother’s and mother’s nice skin, though it is sensitive and I opt for all hypoallergenic vegan make-up … and use very little of it.
Keep spreading the good word about vegan products. With so many of them, I can’t see how people can use others. It’s horrible what they do to bunnies and other small animals in the name of “beauty.”

        1. Mine is sensitive too and I get skin discolouration easily so I have to be extra careful.
I couldn’t agree, we have so many vegan and cruelty free options now. We absolutely don’t need to be hurting animals for makeup anymore.

  12. I hope you’re feeling better now? Expired lipstick can make you sick? I should check mine then. Take care.
Lovely quotes from a wonderful person. Love them all.

    1. I’m fine today. The illness only lasted a few hours. Yes, definitely check expired makeup as it can spoil.
Thanks and glad you enjoyed the quotes.

  13. I haven’t read any book by Maya Angelou but these quotes are definitely inspiring. I guess I will search on Kindle.
I remind my sister every year before her birthday to throw away expired makeup. I am the planner and event reminder in my family. 😀
And I have nothing more to say about WordPress. 😁

    1. “I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings” is absolutely brilliant and is autobiographical. Would definitely recommend it/
I need a reminder like you haha 😅

  14. oh –
lipstick poisoning .Sorry to hear that
    take care Pooja G💄
But the quotes are noteworthy✨🌻specially the latest one !

  15. Stupid addition.

    Totally unnecessary 🤷🏻‍♂️

My issue is still not solved, wtf 😒

Anyway, you better take care. Next time Don’t eat the lipstick.

In fact it’s a good idea, like you can use it and kiss someone you don’t like. 😈

  16. Wait what? Are you okay? That’s unfortunate, but we always tend to finish a good product, that’s the problem. I sometimes use expired lotion because I feel too bad throwing it away if there’s still some product left. Hope you’re doing better. I don’t really use makeup but this is new information for me. Thanks for sharing and raising awareness!

    1. Yeah, I’m okay now and it wasn’t too bad but I did throw away the lipstick. I think lipsticks and mascara go bad the most so you always have to be careful. Even with skincare products since they can cause skin issues.

  17. wasn’t aware that lipstick could poison people, guess i should warn others, hope your better though. As for WP and others, always making that on one indeed asked for, and the real issues will probably never be solved. Either way we do the best that we can do with these platforms, as the real issues dont seem to be going away

    1. Yeah, always be careful with makeup and skincare products as they can go bad.
True, we just try our best. I think WP tries too but I wish they would put in a little more effort.

  18. Maya Angelou’s words always inspire. Maybe because she led by the example. I have also read some of her poems and simply loved them.

As for the food poisoning by expired lipstick, it’s a subject better left to the ladies for commenting. Yet, it is something unheard of. Before reading your post, I had no idea that even lipsticks had expiry dates. So, throwing away was the only wise option, unless you have had some scores to settle.

    1. Yes, she was amazing and did so much even minus writing.

Yes, always check makeup and skincare. If it’s expired, throw it away.

        1. I know, it’s so weird but I think the issue is the lipstick not that it was old. I think there’s something wrong with it 😫

  19. She was such an incredible poet and writer, and her words continue to inspire and touch our hearts. Each quote you shared carries so much wisdom, strength, and empowerment. It’s evident how her words resonate with so many of us and remind us of the power we hold within ourselves. Thank you for compiling these beautiful quotes and spreading the positivity.

  20. I love Maya Angelou’s quotes because they inspire and make sense. Expired make up should be thrown out – eye makeup too in order to avoid getting an eye infection.

    1. It’s true, her quotes are always so down to earth and inspiring.
Absolutely agree, I can’t believe I forgot to throw out this lipstick even though it made me sick before. I usually throw out expired makeup as soon as it expires especially mascara as I heard it can cause a lot of issues when expired.

  21. Those are wonderful inspiring quotes! I love Maya Anjelou as well. Sorry about being sick! Makeup and lipstick can be harmful not only if expired also if swallowed in general, even the natural stuff. Glad you are feeling better and keep up the great work!

  22. With a bit of passion, compassion, style and humor you should take WP … Just kidding … I was going to say that life is good here in South Korea, true minimalism with style . I’m on my way to China, super stoked about seeing the university and my coworkers. Weird to admit that I have missed them

    1. That’s wonderful, one of my high school friends have been living in South Korea for two years now and she was telling me that too. Have a safe trip and hope you enjoy yourself in China.

  23. Love the first quote. I have to say most immigrants and most women are in this world just for survival. I mean even if we are in this category, we can still use this quote to discover our talent, to find our niche, to enjoy life with whatever resources available, to be good to ourselves and others, to keep our spirit up.

      1. LOL. yes, majority is a more accurate description. Still there are many ways to love ourselves and protect ourselves and have a good manageable life.

  24. Glad your feeling better after food poisoning. I didn’t know expired lipstick could do that… I’ll be throwing my stash away. 👀

WordPress needs to allow us to delete our comments we post on other sites. 🙄

And I love Maya Angelou’s works!

    1. Thanks so much. Yeah, definitely be careful with expired makeup it can make us really sick.

I totally agree, that needs to be an option for sure.

      Maya Angelou is amazing!

  25. I like Maya’s quotes, they have a unique perspective.

That lipstick though, am glad you discovered the source of your poisoning and are better now.
