Oil Free Cauliflower Bites Recipe

Recently, my mum and I decided to make a new snack. We had never made it before but it sounded delicious. So, we made these vegan, gluten free and oil free cauliflower bites. They were so delicious and so easy to make too. And since they turned out so great I decided to share this vegan, gluten free and oil free cauliflower bites recipe.

I’ve shared a lot of vegan or plant based recipes before but I realised that I haven’t shared many oil-free or gluten free recipes in the past. And since this was gluten and oil free I thought I would share it with you guys. I know that some of my readers have mentioned they don’t eat gluten. Or are trying to cut our dairy and oil. If that’s you, you have to try this recipe. Even if you eat everything, you have to try this. They are really great as a healthy snack.

So, if you’re looking for a healthy snack look no further!

Ingredients

  • Cauliflower
  • Salt
  • Turmeric
  • Hing (optional)
  • Crushed red pepper
  • Ginger
  • Cumin powder
  • Black or regular salt
  • Chickpea/gram flour

Instructions

  1. Cut one medium sized cauliflower into bite sized pieces and steam them till they’re halfway cooked.

Partially steamed cauliflower

2. Shred one or two inches of ginger depending on your preference.

3. Mix the cauliflower, flour, shredded ginger and spices (2 tsps of crushed red pepper, 3/4 tsp of black or regular salt, a pinch of turmeric, 1tsp of cumin powder and a pinch of hinge which is optional) well. All the spices can be adjusted depending on personal preference.

4. Put the cauliflower pieces on a parchment paper in a baking tray and bake till crispy. Alternatively, you can also use an air fryer, I think that would make them even more crispy.

  1. Not normally a thing for me, but that does sound amazing.

    1. It was really good, would totally recommend.

  2. It looks delicious, Pooja! I’m sure the taste will be delicious too!👌👌👌👌

    1. Thanks so much! 😊

      1. 😊🥰🙏🙏🙏

  3. These look fantastic! My family and I have celiac disease, and thus are gluten free. Thanks so much for thinking about us! Just one question – what is hing?

    1. Asafoetida

Interestingly she used hindi name here

      1. It’s what we call it in Guju too.

        1. I think it’s all the same in most of the Indian language
          haha

Hing is very very common here
Infact we have specific places for Hing here, that particular hing amplifies the taste

          1. Very interesting, we use regular hing and it’s quite easy to find here too.

            1. Different hings taste and smell different

The original one smell so lively, you can smell it from miles 🙂
You can actually feel the taste and magic of that in your food.
              It’s bit expensive, but exclusive.
One of such hings in available in city near mine 😊

              1. Wow, that’s really cool 😮

    2. Happy to, in fact a lot of my newer recipes that I’ll be posting are gluten free! Hing is an Indian spice known in English as asafoetida and it’s not that important for this recipe. If you can find it you can add it and if not that’s fine too. You should be able to find it at any Indian store.

      1. Not sure we have anything like that in the small area I live in my state. Maybe in the bigger cities, but not here. I guess I’ll try it without! Just wait ’til I get my hands on a cauliflower!!!

        1. It’ll be great without it too, it doesn’t make much of a difference in taste. Let me know how it turns out!

    1. Thank you!

  4. Interesting!!
    Thanks for sharing

      1. I am also a bit interested in seeing the person recording it all!!

        1. She’s taking some time off camera lol 😅

          1. I hope she appears

          1. I will when I make them.

  7. That looks and sound delicious. Not sure if I have all those spices. What is Hinge? Chickpea flour? I’m going to give this a go! Thanks Pooj!

    1. It’s so good! You can find both hing and chickpea flour at a cheaper price at any Indian store. Hing is an Indian spice known in English as asafoetida and it’s not that important for this recipe. If you can find it you can add it and if not that’s fine too!

  8. Wow..someone got busy in the kitchen. Imma have to try this recipe. Thanks for sharing 🙏😊

          1. Exactly… Played your role to perfection. 😜

  9. They look good!
Cauliflower is very filling. I used to be on a cauliflower rice kick. And I absolutely love making “eggs” with chickpea flour.

    1. Thanks! Yeah, cauliflower is so delicious and filling and vegan “eggs” with chickpea flour is my go to in these sort of dishes.

  10. I like veggies. Cauliflower and broccoli are good, green beans and celery are my go to snacks.

    1. Broccoli is probably my favourite veggie. Celery is a great snack. So delicious.

  11. I watched your video. I had to check on Gram flour as I had never heard of it. Plenty of recipes for using it. Now I have something new to try as well as a new way to make bread and pancakes! I learn something new every visit.

    1. That’s so great! Yes, gram flour is quite popular in many dishes in the East but not as popular in the West. So glad you now have a new ingredient to try out. You can make delicious vegan French toast with it too.

  12. This looks delicious, Pooja. I’ve had cauliflower bites at a restaurant and loved them but I doubt they were healthy like yours. Thank you for sharing your recipe.

    1. Yeah, restaurants tend to fry them but I wanted to make them healthier and oil free. Thanks so much.

      1. You’re welcome, Pooja.

  13. Glad you found a nice and healthy treat.

    1. Thanks so much, we really enjoyed it.

    1. Thanks, it was delicious.

  14. Delicious looking Pooja 🙂 Thank you for sharing your video with us!

    1. Thanks and happy to share it!

  15. This sounds really good and I think I’ll try it in my new airfryer…thank you!

    1. Thanks and let me know how it turns out!

  16. The recipe is easy to execute, but most importantly the cauliflower bites look amazing.

    1. Thanks so much, I would definitely recommend trying it.

  17. I’m not vegan and I don’t need gluten-free, but this recipe sounds good! I’ve made a similar snack with cauliflower before and it was delicious. Thanks for sharing, Pooja! xo

    1. Cauliflower snacks are always delicious. Thanks!

      1. They really are, and you’re welcome!

  18. My daughter is a vegan so I will share the recipe with her.

    1. Thank you, I hope she enjoys it as much as we did.

  19. Yummy, i’ll try to do it!!

    1. Hope you enjoy it!

  20. Looks delish. I normally like my cauliflower steamed, or raw, but that looks good. You just gave me a new idea. Thanks for sharing. I may try it sometime, when I do, I will let you know how it turned out.

    1. Thanks so much. Definitely give this a try, cauliflower is delicious when baked.

      1. Does baking it change the flavor and texture of it?

        1. Yes, it does and the taste is really good.

          1. Ok. I think I will make me a dipping sauce to try with it.

            1. Yeah, I think it would be great with a dipping sauce.

  21. Recently, I heard about cauliflower rice. Have you ever tried that?

    1. I’ve heard of it too but never had it. I haven’t tried it yet but want to!

  22. These look great! During my “vacation” I decided I really need to change the way I eat. I’m relatively healthy but I spend far too much money on food and the food I eat is not the best. I meal prepped a ton of lunches this week and they were packed with cauli. I love it! I’m going to try this recipe next week.

    1. Thanks! I’m glad you’re making a conscious decision to eat better. Our body totally depends on the fuel we give it and eating healthy does so much for us. Meal preps are such a good idea, I used to keep my meals ready when I was in uni and it helped a lot. I love cauliflower too but I think broccoli is my favourite. I could eat it daily 🥦
Let me know what you think of the recipe!

  23. Looks totally delicious I recently had cauliflower wings which tasted lovely I will definitely try this out. Thanks for sharing Pooja!
