Dancing By The Ocean

Beautiful Woman Dancing By The Ocean With A Sunset In The Background

Dancing by the ocean, she finally felt like herself again. She took a deep breath, smelling the fresh air. It has been so long since she had been able to have the pleasure of her own company, no tasks that needed to be done, no stress of life. She cherished it while she could. Today, she was free. Free to be happy. Nowhere to be, nothing to do, not a single bad thing to be scared of. Today, she would simply exist. Taking in every moment. Living in the present. It would be the last day she could do that, the last day before all hell breaks loose. The last few hours before they discover what she did.

About “Dancing By The Ocean”:

I’ve been getting more into writing short stories for two reasons. One, it helps me with my writing. It’s like sharpening a knife. I get to practice and consequently better my writing skills. Which I need for my book. Not the one coming out this year. The other one. And two, Kevin keeps posting images that inspire me to write murderous (alleged murder in today’s case lol) tales with beautiful women as antagonists. The image above is one of the many amazing images he shared on his blog post and it inspired this short story. As soon as I saw it, I knew I wanted to use it. So shoutout to him, do check out his awesome blog for more!

This story in particular is inspired by my love for murder mystery shows and a conversation I had with a friend from Canada today. We talked about how being an adult is exhausting and it would be nice to have just one day off with no worries. So, I sort of put that together with a more sinister ending. Hope you enjoyed it!

PS. I had to add the image on the post and not as a cover image because the last time I did that, the Reader cut the image and all you could see was her very curvy chest lol. Although that may actually be a good strategy to get more people to click on the post. But I don’t know how many would bother to read it lol.

What did you think of “Dancing By The Ocean”? What do you think she did? Let me know in the comments below because I would love to hear from you. Or simply stop by and say hi!

  1. An enticing story, Pooja. 💕📚

    1. Thank you so much 😊

  2. It’s a very beautiful pix. I’m glad it’s not like the previous one 😀

    1. Thanks so much, haha yeah I had to make sure the Reader doesn’t mess this one up 😅

  3. Very intriguing twist at the end. It reminded me of the song by DNCE- cake by the ocean

    1. Thanks so much. I love that song, I listened to it a lot when I was in High School.

      1. You’re most welcome 🙏🏼

  4. ditto..my oldest daughter was named after a character in a show called murder she wrote….

    1. Oh wow, that’s so cool. I’ve heard of the show but never seen it.

  5. Short stories take technique to pack a lot in a few sentences. You did that very well!

    1. I think so, it’s actually harder in my opinion since the amount of words are limited. Thanks!

      1. I think it is more difficult also.

  6. No way this image give you that idea.

You make your characters( especially women) as murderer and someone scary 😛

You are doing great job off course, love such short stories.

This image reminds me of a fellow blogger for some reason. I won’t name them, as too many people are mad at me for some unknown reason. 😂

    1. Haha it’s true, this image inspired murder somehow 😅

Thanks so much. Lol why would people be mad at you 😆

      1. This image doesn’t represent murder anyhow 🤷🏻

I don’t know, you have any clue?

        1. Nope, no idea. That’s so weird.

  7. Pooja, I love the unique twists you keep putting on these images. And the way you lull the reader into a false sense of serenity and then reveal the clincher is like a shot of cold water. Masterfully crafted and thank you again for participating! 🙏

    1. Thanks so much. It’s been very fun to write these. It’s my pleasure, thanks for creating these cool images!

  8. I enjoyed your story, but it seemed more like the opening to a much longer story.
The image portrayed a feeling of carefree freedom to me. Exactly like the day away from adulthood that you described should be🙂.
    Thanks for sharing.

    1. Thank you so much. Yeah, it would be a good start for a longer story but for now it’s just this.
If only we could have a break like that from adulting. That would be nice 🙂

  9. She probably murdered her ex🤖…
In all seriousness, this was really lovely! 😍

    1. I think so too haha 😉 Thanks so much 😊

  10. Very nice post. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Thank you so much.

  11. as always… grand …and to that twist… superb 👌😉
    …left to wonder now , Pooja…😋

    1. Thank you so much ☺️

      1. pleasure always 🤍

  12. Wonderful it is. Thanks.

    1. Thank you, glad you enjoyed it.

  13. Stunning and compelling story, Pooja. Hmm, perhaps her last hurrah before doing someone in! Yikes!

    1. Thanks so much. Haha yes, perhaps!

      1. My pleasure, Pooja!

  14. I love your story Pooja. I have a feeling the character killed her abusers… At least I hope she did, which is why she felt so free, dancing by the ocean.
I’ll tell you a secret, I literally have danced by the Atlantic Ocean at times, out of immense joy, of being away from the toxic situation I was caught up in from my last workplace. It is a awesome feeling, with the waves crashing at your feet! Thank you for this…

    1. Thanks so much. That’s what I thought for the backstory too but didn’t want to share it because I wanted to see what others interpreted the story as.
Wow, that’s amazing. I’m so glad you experienced that joyous feeling. You deserve it after all the toxic stuff you’ve been through.

  15. I like the story, especially for the twist. But, gee, if that’s what it takes to get a day off!

    1. Thank you so much. Haha sometimes it may be worth it lol!

    1. Thanks, Kevin made it and it just stood out to me!

  16. Back in the old days, I’m pretty old, Pooja, we used to say, “writers write. If we are not writing, we’re not a writer.

    1. That saying is still so accurate.

  17. I liked it, makes the mind wonder what she could have possibly done 🙂

    1. Thanks so much 🙂

  18. Well done and intriguing story, Pooja. I have a hunch that she did someone in, which is why she craved peace and a chance to let herself go. Maybe she has no remorse, but instead, feels joyful that the job is done. Yikes! I can see a story of abuse here; maybe she was abused and controlled, and held prisoner in her own home. Then she finally couldn’t take it any longer. She seized the opportunity when he let his guard down, and she killed him. And now she feels free…free to be happy again. I enjoy a good mystery or thriller. 🙂

    1. Thanks so much. I think she did that too. That’s the backstory I created for her in my head but I wanted to see what everyone else thought.

      1. Great minds think alike, Pooja. 🙂 Have a good week. 🩷

        1. Haha, I guess so. Have a good week too 😊

  19. Tee-hee! Tee-hee! I love it when there’s murder afoot!!!

    1. Haha me too!

  20. For some odd reason this reminds me of an episode of Columbo called, “Lady In Waiting”.

So on that note, I think someone was both abusing and controlling her and she was sick of it.

    1. That’s so interesting. I was thinking the exact same thing for her backstory but didn’t share it since I wanted to see what everyone came up with.

  21. I did like it, Pooja! You’re getting good at these and having fun for sure I see. It’s a great idea to sharpen your writing skills for the next book coming soon! Oh no what did she do? How did she do it, who was she with? Don’t tell me or I won’t sleep💕 lol 😂

    1. Thank you so much, they are quite fun to write! Lol, don’t worry I know you’re not a fan of horror so I’ll keep it to myself 🤐

      1. You’re so welcome! I don’t know maybe it’s growing on me. I told my husband I wanted to watch about the serial killer we found out about any near fell over.🥹😂

        1. Haha he must have been so shocked 😅

  22. Well illustrated story

    1. Thanks so much.

  23. …Just then a serpent raised his great green head, opened its maw, and swallowed her whole. 🤣😎🙃

    1. Lol omg 😅

      1. Glad you liked it 🤣😎🙃

  24. A nice story with an intriguing ending. I’m actively studying the mystery and thriller genre. My next series will be in that area too.

  31. I love it! I think our minds run with similar thinking when it comes to life and relationships. I could picture the possibilities of what she did in this story. Dance young woman and hold onto the freedom while you can.
