How To Make Money Blogging In 2024

How Blogging Can Make Money | How To Make Blogging Online

I shared a blogging advice post last week after what felt like forever and many of you were kind enough to give me positive feedback in the comments section. And a number of comments asked me to share more blogging advice posts in the future. I used to share these advice posts almost weekly but haven’t shared any in such a long time because they can be a bit more time consuming than my regular posts since I end up having to do a lot of research for them. But I’ve decided to put more of an effort and try to share one blogging advice post a week. This week, I wanted to share a post about how to make money blogging since it’s something a lot of people ask me about in my emails and DM’s.

I know a lot of people prefer to blog as a hobby and don’t plan on generating any income from it. But there is also a pretty decent amount of people that are interested in earning money through blogging. In fact, some people start blogging primary to earn an income. Either an extra income on the side or they make blogging their full-time gig. If you’re someone that has no interest in making money blogging, this isn’t the post for you. But if you would like to make an income through blogging, read ahead.

I have talked about this topic in another blogging advice post but the truth is that things are always changing on the internet. And that means our streams of revenue change as well. So, I wanted to share an updated version of this post and have methods that would work best in 2024. Especially because we have so many different platforms now that blogging isn’t as popular as it once was. Which means making an income blogging is a lot harder now than it used to be.

So, here is how to make money blogging in 2024:

Products And Services

I think offering products or services is the best way to make an income online especially when it comes to blogging. We all have something to offer the world and through blogging, you can begin selling products or services that your subscribers may be interested in. Eventually, you may even be able to start your own online business. With the blog to give you a boost, you can use your posts to reach potential clients.

Blogging gives you the freedom to sell products or services online that work well with your audience. You have the ability to even ask them what they would be interested in and create your online store accordingly. You don’t have to look for your target market because you’ll already have it.

The only downside to this is that a small percentage of your readers will be interested in purchasing products or services that you offer. Which means, you would have to have a pretty decent amount of following before you can make profits.

Ads

When it comes to making money blogging, I think Ads is the one most people think of or are at least familiar with. Whether it’s WordAds, Google Ads or any other Ads, we’ve all seen them and are familiar with them. I think Ads can definitely be a wonderful stream of income and the best part is that you don’t have to do much for them. You can simply share your posts and publish posts on whatever topics you please and the Ads will just appear.

The biggest downside is that I think stuff like WordAds is a bit of a scam. You get such a tiny percent of the income when they get paid quite a lot by advertisers. And you would need a very large amount of traffic from specific countries (many platforms pay differently depending on the country your views are from) to make even a couple hundred bucks. Which is fine if you are just blogging as a side hustle but if you want blogging to be a full-time thing, just Ads alone is not going to cut it. Unless you get thousands of views daily.

The Living Happy Guide from Happy Hub

Join Creator Platforms

There are so many platforms for creators these days which will help you connect with potential clients and sponsors. Platforms like HashtagPaid, Get Blogged and so many more can be a good option for bloggers looking to work with clients. It’s a lot easier than finding clients and sponsors yourself. Plus, you’re less likely to get scammed if you work through a platform.

The downside of these platforms is that so many people know about them now and have joined them which really saturates the market. This means that you often don’t get paid enough for the work you’re doing or the clients end up going with someone else. It makes it really hard to find regular work on these platforms.

Wait For Clients To Find You

Sometimes, it’s best for clients to find you. Depending on what niche your blog is, if you make decent content that’s SEO friendly, clients will find your blog. They may want to share their products, services, want backlinks etc. You just have to wait. And please don’t let people trick you into giving them backlinks for free unless you’re okay with that. Lot’s of SEO companies reach out to bloggers, especially newer ones and try to get backlinks for free.

The downside to this one is that clients often prefer people with higher DA scores. Most people only work with blogs with a DA score of 10 or higher. The lower your DA score, the less they’ll pay. So, do keep that in mind.

Conclusion

Before I end this post, I will say that the internet isn’t always a safe place. If you’re looking to make money blogging, please be careful. There are a lot of scammers out there.

  1. Thank you for sharing this. I have a lot of questions.

I started blogging as a means of getting my writing before an audience. I didn’t think that it would be as many viewers as I’ve had.

But being an over 100,000 less than five months, and my numbers go up each month I would think I when I hit six months plus, I hopefully can monetize my blog, maybe approaching or one of them based on my numbers alone?

    1. It’s my pleasure. That’s a very impressive amount of views. I would recommend monetising your blog and talking to potential clients. When you do decide to monetise your blog, join platforms like Intellifluence, Hashtag Paid etc. And make sure to join Google Console to see how your SEO is doing. When you start looking for potential clients, send me an email. I may have some people that would be interested in working with you.

  2. Interesting and very helpful too, thanks sincerely. 🙏🙏

    1. My pleasure, happy to share 😊

  3. I’d love to figure out a way to earn some cash through blogging. I rarely get any views anymore through WordPress and also my social media accounts. I think it’s because of the algorithm which I understand, yet is also annoying. i desire to use my platforms to bring others together and have creative fun. Also having a business online would be amazing and I’m excited to learn how to start. Thanks for posting this Pooja.

    1. Yeah, WordPress is a little dead these days compared to what it was like a couple of years ago. Growing your blog has become much harder. Do consider these options, hopefully you can earn some cash from doing what you enjoy.

  4. I’ve contemplated monetizing my blog but I realised if I did, I probably wouldn’t enjoy blogging as much anymore. So for now, blogging will remain as a hobby.

    1. That totally makes sense and I understand where you’re coming from.

  5. I agree with your opinion. I’ve tried once to apply for Google Ads, but the procedure is complicated. So, yeah, I decided to just share my writing here for free.

    1. Thanks so much. Yeah, since it requires plugins etc the process can get overly complicated.

  6. helpful and informative, Pooja ..thank you for sharing 🤍

    1. Thanks so much 😊

      1. pleasure always 🤍💫

  7. Great advice! While I blog primarily for fun, extra streams of income in today’s world can’t hurt.

I’ve been fortunate to land a few paid collabs over the years and I have 2 books which serve as products that bring in minimal income every now and again. As for ads, I have a creator account on here and not business so I don’t get access to some of the ad plug-ins. I also don’t have enough readership to qualify for Mediavine so Wordads it is. These days, I make about a dollar USD a day which is pitiful but as we say in Jamaica, every mickle makes a muckle! (Meaning small things add up). No one else is probably gonna hand me $100 bucks every few weeks-months anyway, so I’ll take it!

    1. Thank you! Agreed, a little extra income can go a long way. Even if it just helps with savings.

Yeah, most people make a couple of dollars a day at most unless you have very high amounts of traffic. It’s not much but definitely better than nothing.

  8. This is helpful article, I am new to blogging and interested to earn money from it in future if possible

    1. Thank you, glad it was helpful and hope you’re able to do that in the future.

  9. I post faith-based stuff, which is my i have made making impact my priority thank to make money. Perhaps salvation costs Jesus’ life, which has been freely given to us. If i make some bucks on the platform, i will invest it back on the blog or give it to charity. Otherwise, i would be fine without making money.

    1. That’s really lovely, a wonderful goal to selflessly help others.

    1. That makes sense, I think numbers are much less subjective. Both my parents are accountants so I get it. Although neither do or did accounting.

WordPress used to offer a very decent amount of memory too, even for free blogs. Back when I started, this platform wasn’t as profit oriented as it is now. I understand wanting to make a profit from users but sometimes they cross the line and it feels like we’re being exploited. Still, we stick around for the community.

Yes, with WordAds or Google Adsense you really can’t make much if you don’t get thousands of views. And some people use clickbait to do that. I think that blogger disappeared eventually. If we’re talking about the same person that is.

I love this job and I agree, if you’re going to work do what you love.

  11. I did make a few dollars with wordAds but it was very less. And since they only pay through PayPal, and we don’t have it in Pakistan, I don’t think I’ll try again.

    1. Oh yeah, they only offer payments with PayPal which isn’t available in so many countries. I wish they were more mindful of the fact that there are bloggers all around the world and there should be options for everyone.

      1. Very true my friend.

  12. Blogging costs me quite a bit. Since the changes brought in by wordpress my traffic is a quarter what it was. I am seriously thinking of stopping.

    1. Yeah, the traffic decrease has been insane. I understand, sometimes it’s not worth the costs. Although, I do hope you decide to stay.

  13. Another helpful post. I think many people dive in with the intent to earn something, but the market is so saturated they soon realize how difficult it is to generate a substantial audience. Blogging should be treated as part of the strategy along with others, if the goal is to make money.
Or we could just blogg for the fun of it, and being part of this community.
Great stuff as always, Pooja. 🙏

    1. Thank you so much. Yes, I think a large number of people do hope to earn money from blogging but it’s not as easy as people think. It’s actually quite hard and takes a while since you have to build an audience first.
Absolutely, even as a hobby blogging is wonderful. This community is such a treasure 😊

    1. Thank you so much!

  14. I strictly blog as a hobby. And I have a paid plan just so I don’t annoy my readers with ads. So deliberately adding ads to my site just isn’t going to happen for me.

    1. That’s totally fair, a lot of people just blog as a hobby.

  15. Interesting to learn of blogging for income. For now my blogging is a spiritual practice for a “reward in heaven”. Joking 🌷

    1. Thank you so much. Haha yes, that’s okay too 😊

    1. Thanks 💕

  16. Pooja, this is an excellent post. I appreciate that you included the pros and cons of each option. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us.

    1. Thank you so much. Yeah, I wanted to give a clear picture of the options. A more realistic one.

  17. Sounds like too much hard work Pooja🤣!

    1. Lol it can be 😅

  18. I don’t blog for money but I do make money thru social media and stuff. I advertise my classes and events so people can come in person. All these tips are very helpful, I might consider doing it in the future not thru WP though

    1. That’s great, I think this could be helpful for social media too.

      1. Yes, I see it working there as well

  19. Wonderful explanation Pooja…I started blogging with no intention of money… I think now it’s a bit so hard to rely on blogging alone especially of you’re a newbie, there’s a tonne of blogs out there most of which have a huge following and have been in the game for so long. That’s not to make you not do the work though! I think quality content and building a community is key.

    1. Thanks so much. That’s true, it takes a while before you can start making an income from blogging. Especially these days when there are so many other platforms and blogging has sort of taken a back seat.

  20. Excellent advice and spot-on as usual, Pooja <3 … Ghosts can't get PayPal (lol) or have my personal name published, so I blog for the community and interconnections. My favorite though are these Ads that are completely opposite to the post or article I'm reading. Gives me a chuckle! Oh, and the backlinks !!!! They think they are so sly …

    1. Thanks so much. Haha true! And either way I’m just glad we have your wonderful posts here!

  21. Very useful tips Pooja, thanks a lot for sharing, interested to earn, exactly how much followers and views to get monetized?

    1. Thank you so much. You don’t need a minimum amount of followers to get monetised but most people don’t make much till they have about a thousand followers or more. The important thing isn’t really even about how many followers you have but rather SEO. People want to work with blogs that have a high DA score. Even if you have very few followers but a high DA score, you can make a lot of money.

      1. Thanks for your valuable reply Pooja. How to make DA score. any paid promotion in the case of beginners? Also to achieve SEO ? What’s the minimum number of blogs for a beginner in a week ?

        1. You’re very welcome. To increase your DA score you need to improve your SEO. That’s the best way to increase your DA. Check out my posts on SEO to help improve your sites SEO. They’re linked on the post under “related posts.” I don’t think there’s a minimum or maximum number of blog posts per week but most people agree at least one post a day helps.

          1. Thank you so much for the reply, definitely I will your check your SEO posts.

            1. You’re welcome, hope it helps.

              1. Yes very much, thanks for the detailing Pooja becoz lot of spam site here to mislead. your suggestions are valuable 👍👍👍

                1. Yes, some sites are not reliable. That’s why I like to share from my experiences. I know the things I mention work well.

                  1. Thank you so much👍

                    1. You’re very welcome.

  22. I just wanted to let you know that I’ve been reading and putting into practice some of the blogging advice you’ve shared. I wanted to express my gratitude for the helpful information. Thank you!

    1. I’m so happy to hear that and I hope the changes help!

  23. It is not easy to make money as a blogger. Unless you have good services and products. To be discovered by brands you have to have at least a good SEO and also followers in social networks. I keep blogging for the love of it, but it’s not easy. It’s a good article Pooja, Thanks for sharing !!! ✅👍

    1. So true, even with services and products it’s actually quite difficult. Thanks so much 😊

      1. Yeah, it isn’t easy because too many bloggers, freelancers, and YouTubers exist. To succeed you must be a top top !! 😔😅

  24. Very good advice and tips Pooja. And yes, everyone be careful when it comes to scammers. If someone reaches out to you and makes an offer that sounds to good to be true, it usually is.

    1. Thank you so much. Absolutely, so many scammers out there these days. We have to be extra careful.

  25. Thank you this was very useful info Pooja.

    1. Thanks, glad to hear that.

  26. Thank you for such valuable information. I have never thought about making money out of blogging. I thought of it as a writing practice only. LOL. And you are right that it is better to work with a platform…

    1. Thanks so much. That’s fair, that’s how I started out to but now it’s my full-time job lol.

  27. Such a helpful and informative post. Thank you Pooja for sharing 💕

    1. Thanks so much, happy to share 😊

  28. Great one!!!! I needed this especially with adding services on your blog.

    1. Thank you, yes that’s a big one!

      1. It really is!!! You’re welcome

  29. Thanks for this Pooja 🤣😎🙃

    1. Happy to share 😊

  30. Oh helpful post dear PooG

Affilliate marketing can help as well 😁

I like getting paid for writing by words
After 3.5 years, I can now charge and tell people about 250+ articles 😝

    1. Thanks so much. Yes, affiliate marketing can be very helpful. That’s a great way to advertise your writing skills!

  31. Fabulous piece, especially on the subject of ads. People with thousands of daily views tend to talk them up without revealing that it’s the views that matter when it comes to running ads.

    1. Thanks so much. Absolutely, I notice that too. People who have huge amounts of traffic give others unrealistic expectations for ads.

  32. Great post, Pooja and I bet it’s possible, depending on your goals. 👏

    1. Thanks so much 😊

      1. You’re most welcome 🙏🏼

  34. This is very informative. Thanks for sharing.

I started blogging to release and share. After four years, I would like to explore the possibilities of making money from it. But, I barely get seen on WP … my subscribers has grown at a turtle’s pace 😊 so it hasn’t really been encouraging to want to venture into the momey-making. It was a lot better when I first started. But still I/we blog ….

    1. Thanks so much, glad ti was informative. In my experience, your follower count doesn’t matter too much for some money making methods. For example, if your DA is over 15 you’ll get a lot of requests for sponsored posts.

      1. That’s good to know.
Yes, you mentioned DA and SEO. Any advice on the best way to check my DA?

        1. You can use Moz, it’s free and quite accurate: https://moz.com/domain-analysis

          1. Wow I actually just signed up with Moz the other day but haven’t tried it yet. Thanks. Will keep you posted.

            1. Oh nice, looks like you’re on the right track. Good luck and yes keep me posted with how it goes.

              1. Sure will do
                Thanks again

                1. No problem, happy to help.

  35. Very useful post and advice! I feel like nowadays making money through blogging is becoming more and more difficult, and as you say it seems that the best way to make money is through selling serviecs or products! Thanks for the interesting read!

    1. Thanks so much! Yes, it’s definitely a lot harder these days than it was before. About a decade ago there were so many more opportunities. Absolutely, services and products are best!
