WordPress Is Malfunctioning
I recently shared a post about my grievances with WordPress. Some called it a rant but after some word harsh letters from my lawyers they all agreed that it was simply positive input on how this platform could be improved. Jokes aside, there have been a lot of glitches recently (even for WordPress) and this time they’re actually major glitches. And many of these glitches are effecting our stats and our notifications. Which got me thinking, are WordPress stats just bogus at this point?
Also, I know I’ve been whining about WordPress a lot recently and my apologies. But to be fair, you’re the one that made the decision to follow a blog called LifesfineWHINE so you know…
Well, let’s get into it. Because if you know me, you know I don’t shy away from talking about the negatives as well as the positives. Even if it gets me shadow banned. Which after some harsh letters from WordPress’s lawyers I have been asked to rephrase that as “everything is fine, this is not a sinking ship at all.” Kidding by the way, WordPress’s lawyers have better things to do with their time than send me letters. But still, just for legal reasons, these are just my opinions and not facts. I’m also unstable right now thanks to Mercury being in gatorade or whatever. So yeah, that’s my defence. Astrology and stuff. But like actually though Mercury isn’t in retrograde right now so don’t worry.
And I’m going to stop now before I actually do get shadow banned.
Constant Issues
Back to WordPress, feel free to ignore the last part of my introduction lol. There have been constant issues plaguing this platform for a long time now. Which is so sad because when I first started blogging, almost ten years ago there were almost no glitches. I spent years without having to talk to a Happiness Engineer. Can you even believe that?
There are a bunch of changes being made to the design amongst other things. And bloggers are beginning to feel less and less in control of their own blog. Even those that pay large amounts for their plan and/or unique domain.
The truth is, people are quite unsatisfied with this platform. But because this community is such a wonderful one, many continue to use it anyway. I must admit that I’m one of those. I’m quite irritated with this platform on some occasions but at the same time I can’t let go of this blog because the friends I’ve made here really mean a lot to me. And to be honest, I don’t know if it’s possible to find another platform like this one where people are so kind and supportive.
So, we ignore the little glitches and the little changes. And we ignore when Happiness Engineers try to gaslight us into thinking the glitches are all in our head (more on that later). However, now the glitches are getting worse and it’s time to talk about them.
Are WordPress Stats Bogus?
Recently, I’ve read multiple posts about people complaining about WordPress’s stats and notifications not being accurate. There’s been an issue with Pingback’s for quite a while now and is something several bloggers have mentioned on their blog.
And then, just a few days ago I read this post. Which reminded me that the following count on WordPress has been inaccurate for quite a while now. I don’t know if any of you have noticed this or experienced it on your blog. But basically, some people’s following is randomly going up and down all of a sudden. I had this issue too. My following just kept decreasing despite gaining new followers daily. And then all of a sudden it went up by a lot even though I didn’t gain those many followers. It’s been happening again recently and this time it’s not correcting itself which is so annoying. And it really makes me wonder if our follower count is accurate or just some random number that’s WP’s screwed up system coughed up.
And the sad thing is, many bloggers including the one I linked the post from, have tried to contact WordPress about this glitch but have been gaslighted by the Happiness Engineers into thinking this is normal. It’s not, my followers never randomly decreased and increased till a while ago. Image of WP telling us everything is okay when it’s a total dumpster fire:

Also, I don’t blame the HE’s- they’re doing their job and are probably told how to respond to certain queries due to legal reasons.
Next, I read this post which also reminded me of another glitch that’s been happening. The streak count is way off and honestly just random numbers at this point. I didn’t post for like three days and somehow WP counted all three days and my streak continued. Last time I checked, that’s not how streaks works.
They Do Listen!
Look at that, they do listen! Turns out complaining about stuff works. So many readers mentioned how annoying it was that they moved the Reader with no heads-up or anything and now look at this notification I got today. Who says whining can’t change the world?? Fingers crossed they listen to the rest of our complains too.
Final Thoughts
Reading all these posts, dealing with so many glitches this year. It’s all got me thinking, are WordPress stats just bogus? Can we even trust them at all anymore? And if WordPress stats are just bogus, what is going to happen down the line. I know some people don’t care about stats and that’s fine. But I think people should be concerned anyway because providing accurate stats is literally the bare minimum this platform has to do.
And then it makes me think, if these stats aren’t accurate how can we trust the stats they show us about our traffic. Because, friendly reminder, there was a time when they tried to limit traffic to sites depending on what plan they were on.
Have you ever noticed a random decrease and/or increase in followers? Have you noticed any inaccuracies in your stats? Are you also struggling with any glitches on WordPress? If so, how do you combat this issue or these issues? Let me know in the comments below because I would absolutely love to hear your thoughts. Or simply stop by and say hi!
