Things I Am Grateful For

woman praying with hands clasped | Things I Am Grateful For

As you may know if you read my last post or two, I’ve been struggling a little with my mental health and depression lately. And I know I’m not alone, many of us struggle with mental health problems. Or even just with the ups and downs of life. That’s why I thought it would be nice to share a list of things I am grateful for. As a reminder of just how much good is also in my life. And to focus on the positive instead of dwelling on the negative too much.

So, here are some things I am grateful for:

Virtual And Real Life Friends

The thing I am most grateful for is my virtual and real life friends. My real life friends, especially my best friend, make the biggest difference in my life. They offer me comfort, kindness and a safe space to be myself. They make me feel seen and loved, which is important to me because I’ve always struggled with feeling invisible.

My virtual friends, those on my blog and social media pages also make me feel so seen. You guys just get me and get my vibe. I’ve met so many lovely people here. Gotten so much encouragement, love and kindness. I am truly grateful for that.

Help When I Need It

I am so incredibly grateful to be able to get help when I’m not feeling my best with my mental health. There are places where even seeing a therapist is incredibly expensive or difficult as there are not enough resources. So, I’m thankful I like in a country where it’s so affordable to get the help I need and where I was able to find a therapist that is perfect for me.

Writing

Writing is my one true muse. It inspires me to stay alive, if I’m being honest. It’s probably one of the few reasons I’m still on this planet. It brings me so much unadulterated joy to write. I am so grateful to be a writer and to have something to write always.

My Business

I built my business from the ground up, I started with nothing but a vision and lots of hard work. And I am so incredibly proud of myself for that. I am also really thankful that I am able to work for myself, at my own time and according to my own rules. Do I make tons of money? Nope, not even close. But I make enough to get by and still have time for my writing and that’s all that matters to me. And with some budgeting and saving, I’m even able to treat myself once in a while.

Life

Lastly, I am so grateful to just be alive. If you knew me as a teenager, you know how much I struggled with my mental health. There were a lot of times when I thought I wouldn’t make it to twenty and look at me know, almost thirty. I am so lucky to be alive, to have people in my life who care about me and to have the strength to continue on even when it feels like I’ve hit rock bottom.

What are you grateful for? Let me know in the comments below because I would love to hear from you. Or simply stop by and say hi!

I recently published my first book and would be very honoured if you took a minute to check it out here.

  1. You rock, P.J.

Remember, of the eight billion people on Earth, there’s only one you. Keep fighting the good fight…by writing, by learning, by exercising self-care, and remembering that you’re not alone!

    1. Thank you. Yes, absolutely.

  2. Grateful for you to, Pooja. For the same reasons you list, along with just the solidarity of it. And definitely writing as well!

  3. Beautifully articulated, my friend!

  5. Pooja, your posts have made me laugh, think… and yeah, get a little verklempt on occasion 😉 You have incredible talent, the words flow from your heart to the page. I’m sorry you’ve suffered from depression…”the black dog” was how Churchill described it. Some of it is situational, but most of the time it’s biochemical. On those days, know that your WP fam is here for you… just hunker down, bing-watch NF and know that a new day always appears. Take care, my friend 😎❤️

    1. Thanks so much. I’m so glad my posts resonate with you and I so appreciate you saying that. I very much appreciate this WP fam, it helps me more than anyone will ever know. Thanks ☺️❤️

                1. You’re very welcome.

  7. you’ve got a friend…I always listen to that song whenever I’ve got that empty feeling….the tough thing is reaching out..it’s the last thing, but at least I blog, so you may have notice I’m not afraid to share…..and the best is just getting outside….this was horrible, until I finally took that step today..yes it was windy, but man, just over 30 minutes and I feel okay…need a doc to say instead of take two pills, take a walk…

    1. Thanks so much. Yes, sometimes just getting out of the house and getting some air helps a lot. And I appreciate you being transparent about your struggles too.

  9. It’s wise to think through the things you’re grateful for. Even with all the crap in the world, the older I get, the more grateful I become. I think this is also true of my closest friends who are all considerably over 50. Hang in there. You’re on the right path especially since you continue to do what you love. It will get easier.

    1. I think that’s really what keeps us going, being grateful and not focusing too much on the negative. Thank you so much.

  10. Thanks for the post.

It is a good reminder to focus on the positive.

I think the one thing that I am grateful for is modern technology.

When I was looking at genealogy and the life my ancestors lived, I realized how much leisure and convenience I have now compared to them. I gripe about technology issues from time to time, but in the big scheme of things, technology allows us to live a life our early ancestors could not have imagined.

    1. Thanks so much. I feel the same way. Of course, some things about technology are annoying but for the most part it’s something to be grateful for. It’s improved our lives immensely.

  11. Keep hanging in there my friend feel like I went through like a three month depression myself tired right now and I’m sorry about my country right now is a mess and I’m worried.

    1. Thanks so much. I’m so sorry you went through a depressive phase too. It really sucks. And I understand, politics is stressing so many people out recently. But things will get better, nothing lasts forever.

      1. The best part about depressive phases is coming out the other side and having that comparison to know how good you feel afterwards.

        1. So true, it’s like you feel even more amazing because of how awful you felt before.

          1. Can’t come up without down left without right

            1. Yup, exactly.

  12. Pooja, what a wonderful post.

Keep being you, and remember to be gentle with yourself. You are loved and stronger than you know. Blessings! 🙏

    1. Thank you so much 🙏💕

  15. I think as we get older, we see the mismatch and start to understand all the carp we worry about is not necessary. We start to chase what really matters a healthy life, fulfilling jobs, genuine friends, and most of all, our inner well-being. I’m glad to see you overcome and bloom Pooja.

    1. That’s so true. I think once we’re in our mid to late twenties, we understand things so much better. And we realise what our real priorities are. Thank you so much.

  16. Sending you hugs… they v if so much to me grateful for. Thank you for sharing!

    1. Thanks so much, much appreciated! Hugs 🤗

  17. I feel you. So glad you are finding the resources you need, sister. Story of my life will slowly, like a blooming lotus, unfold. Stay tuned. Meanwhile, I am happy to hear that you are staying well.

    1. Thanks so much. Yes, I think eventually we all bloom. These moments are just growing pains.

  18. Thank you for the reminder, I too struggle with this at times of loneliness and frustration despite all we shall pull thru 😇 HNY

    1. Yes, we’re not alone and we’ll get better. 😊

  19. Mental health is a huge issue. It is amazing how many people suffer. Two of my children do and I have also suffered anxiety. It holds you back from reaching your potential. It seems to strike the intelligent and empathic more than others. I think that is probably because they care and overthink. Sociopaths and psychopaths do not suffer. They don’t care about the effects of what they do and even enjoy causing pain.

    1. Yes, unfortunately mental health is a major issue amount the youth in particular. But it’s not surprise with how the world is and how much stress we experience from such a young age. Something older generations didn’t have. At least not to the amount we do.
Sociopath and psychopaths don’t care about the future, they literally can’t. Therefore, they don’t care what happens to others or what happens in the future. They don’t feel proper empathy or sympathy. That’s why they’re happy and we’re miserable.

  20. You are doing an amazing job Pooja 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

    1. Thanks so much 😊

      1. You’re most welcome

  21. I’m grateful for you too, Pooja.

For some reason, I decided to watch you closely here, I admire the way you write and you consistency has been an inspiration to me. I know I love writing and it’s one thing I do instead of talk and I can really pour out my heart on paper or keyboard rather than voice it sometimes. I’m grateful for everything on that list, health, life, family, etc. I have a handful of friends and tons of virtual friends and I’m grateful for them.

Remember that you are stronger than you think. Take care, friend.🫶🏽

    1. Thanks so much. That is so kind of you to say. And I think you really have the gift of writing so keep doing it. Take care too 💕

  22. THis is a great post!! Everyone should stop and be thankful, once and a while. Also remember to take time to laugh. 🤣😎🙃

    1. Thank you so much! I so agree 😊

  23. I am grateful to have met you, Pooja, even though not face to face. I am grateful to have found WordPress because it filled the void after I retired, and of course, I love the WordPress community. I am grateful for my good health at my age, my hubby, my cat, and where I currently live. I feel you are stronger than you think! Take care and stay positive. 💗

    1. Thanks so much, I’m grateful to have virtually met you. And yes, this community is so wonderful, it gives us somewhere that we can be ourselves. Thanks! ☺️💕

      1. You’re welcome, Pooja! 💗

  24. The good thing about virtual friends is you can part ways with the click of a button

    1. Yes, that’s the good thing about virtual.

  25. I’m grateful for your presence on-line. Grazie!🙏

    1. Thanks, that’s so sweet of you to say. Grateful for you too 😊

  26. Gratitude is so important as a daily practice – when possible of course, though even doing it when one feels low can help lift one up. Great post!

    1. Thanks so much. I so agree, gratitude is absolutely vital. It’s the only way we can remain positive in a world that’s sometimes very dark.

      1. My pleasure! 🤗

  27. Pooja, it takes courage to admit having to struggle with mental health. You inspire with your words. Sending you hugs. 🤗❤️

    1. Thank you so much, hugs 🤗❤️

      1. You are very welcome. 😊❤️

  28. Thank you for sharing your struggles and also your list of things you are thankful for. I am glad we connected here in WP world. I am glad you can get the help you need. Hope you have a blessed weekend my fellow Jedi.

    1. Thanks so much. I’m glad for that too and consider you a friend. Have a wonderful weekend too.

  29. You are awesome and courageous to be so open about life; the good, the bad, and the beauty found even through the ugly parts.

    1. Thanks so much, I think that’s the best way to live in reality at least for me. I have to accept the good and bad.

  30. Oops, cut myself off (lol) … Grateful for you and your writing has been so empowering, inspirational, and beyond motivating! There will be days/months/ and sometimes years running up a mountain of quicksand … all you can do is your best and you have been an exemplary soul shining through the darkness! <3

    1. Haha no worries, it happens sometimes we hit send too soon. Grateful for you as well!

    1. Thank you and yes it is!

  33. Hope things improve for you soon. There is so much in this world to concentrate on that is beautiful so dwell on that and make sure you keep up an exercise routine to counteract negative thoughts.

  34. wow – this is so beautiful – each line and words touched me and made me cry.

    1. Thank you so much, I’m happy that it resonated with you.

  35. <3 Smart to write a post like this too, because you'll keep coming back to it for a few days at least, resetting, remembering.

    1. Yes, I’ll be able to come back and feel better about how much I have to be thankful for.

  36. Gratitude is a miraculous thing…the more we give thanks, the more reasons we find to give thanks. This is a lovely list, Pooja, and huge kudos to you for discovering your niche and building your business from the ground up! 💞💞💞

    1. So true, it also helps change our thinking patterns and we begin thinking more positively. Thank you! 🙏💕

  37. Gratitude is very important to mental health, it helps us see the positives in situations we may find overwhelming! When I struggled the most with depression I found it difficult to feel the gratitude deep within me and not just on a surface level.

Learning to speak gently and kindly to myself also made a huge difference.

How have you been doing lately with suspending judgment of yourself and speaking kindly to yourself instead?

    1. I so agree, it really helps keep us afloat when things get tough.

I have been trying to be kinder to myself and give myself grace. It’s helped quite a bit because I used to be quite pessimistic.

  38. I am grateful for you Pooja and happy you were born. I’m in aww of your courage, and steadfast conviction being an example to others and you surviving the teenage years. You make my life bright and easier! I love you! 🥰

    1. Aw thank you so much! Love you too and so grateful for your intelligence, wisdom and kindness 💖

      1. Of course, Pooja and I’m beaming hearing your words as well. Thank you, kindred! 💕

  39. Your gratitude list is perfect, Pooja. Be well and happy, sweet friend.

    1. Thanks so much and you as well.

  40. What a way of writing Pooja, you explained the virtue and value of friendship 👏👏👏 I am proud to say that you are my best friend 👍❤️

    1. Thank you, very sweet of you to say 😊

      1. You are welcome

  41. A beautiful list of gratitude 💕 I try to do the same if I can when I’m feeling down, write down all the things I’m grateful for 🙏 we need to call in more of this! 😊

    1. Thanks so much. Yes, remembering how much we have helps make us feel better when we’re in a slump 😊

  42. Wonderful, Pooja. Grateful for following you, my friend. Well done!
