Trigger Warning: “It Was All For You” is a darker poem and if that’s unsettling for you please don’t read further.

I fell to the ground
Shattering myself into a million pieces
Just so you would notice me
I cut my arms and legs
Bleeding out
Just so you would notice me
I ripped out my hair
And picked at my skin
Just so you would notice me
And plucked out my eyes
Laying them at your feet
Just so you would notice me
I ripped out my heart from my chest
Offering it to you
And yet it was never enough
For you
About “It Was All For You”:
I’ve been watching You and that is sort of what inspired this poem. For those of you that are familiar with the show, you know that the protagonist is an awful person but in his mind he’s the “good guy.” In his mind, he does everything because of love and yet no one is thankful or appreciative of it. And I wanted to write this poem from his POV, showing how he believes he did everything for the people he loved and yet was never appreciated. This is how narcissists and psychopaths think, they’re always the victim, they’re always the ones going above and beyond for others.
Anyway, hope you enjoyed the poem. Do you watch You? Have you finished the last season? What did you think of the poem? Let me know in the comments below because I would love to hear from you. Or simply stop by and say hi!
